Falcons rookie LB Ade Ogundeji fined for unnecessary roughness

Falcons rookie Ade Ogundeji has been fined $4,000 by the NFL for an unnecessary roughness penalty in Week 7.

The Falcons came out firing on all cylinders in Week 7, but the Dolphins wouldn’t go down without a fight. It took a late drive that was capped off by a Younghoe Koo field goal to seal Atlanta’s 30-28 victory over Miami.

Playing without their best pass rusher, Dante Fowler, who’s on injured reserve with a knee injury for at least another week, rookie OLB Ade Ogundeji earned the most reps of his short career. The fifth-round pick out of Notre Dame played 71 percent of the team’s defensive snaps in Week 7, up from his previous high of 54 percent in Week 5.

Ogundeji made a nice play when he blocked a Dolphins field goal, but it wasn’t all positive for the rookie. After an unnecessary roughness penalty for a face mask in the second quarter, Ogundeji has been fined $4,000 by the NFL, as reported by ESPN’s Michael Rothstein.

The Falcons host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday and will need Ogundeji to again play a high percentage of the team’s defensive snaps. Atlanta is currently favored by 3.5 points over Carolina.

Make it eight former Notre Dame players selected in the 2021 NFL draft, as defensive end Ade Ogundeji is headed to Georgia. The Atlanta Falcons selected the end with the 182nd pick in the fifth round. At this moment, there are just three other Irish players that could be taken. Here is the Twitter reaction of Ogundeji becoming a Falcon.

2021 NFL draft: EDGE prospects in each round for Colts

EDGE is the biggest need for the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts will be entering the 2021 NFL draft looking to add to their biggest need, which most would say comes on the edge of the defensive line.

While finding a left tackle will be a priority as well, the Colts are staring at a potential problem with their pass rush from the edge. As it stands, the starters at defensive end include Kemoko Turay, Ben Banogu and Al-Quadin Muhammad. Turay and Banogu have plenty of upside but if they don’t make significant strides, the pass rush will continue to be inconsistent.

The draft doesn’t offer many blue-chip edge rushers, although there are some prospects who should intrigue the Colts. They could look to address the room in the first round or decide to wait and address other needs. We also took a look at wide receiver prospects in each round for Indy.

Here is an edge rusher prospect in every round for the Colts:

Notre Dame’s Senior Bowl Participants

Notre Dame has six former players participating in this Senior Bowl which is more than any other school.

The annual Reese’s Senior Bowl gets underway this week in Mobile, Alabama before the game takes place on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Some of the best talent from all of college football will be on display this week as players from all over and programs big and small try to improve their draft stock.

Notre Dame has six former players participating which is more than any other school.

Will all six get drafted?

Unlikely but here s a very brief profile on each former Fighting Irish player participating in Senior Bowl activities this week:

Reload or rebuild for Notre Dame in 2021?

Will Notre Dame have a season where they struggle like in 2016 or will it be a prosperous season like this past season?

The list keeps growing with Notre Dame players making their intentions for next year known, many of them opting to move on instead of come back. Quarterback Ian Book, tackles Liam Eichenberg and Robert Hainsey, guards Tommy Kraemer and Aaron Banks, linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, tight end Tommy Tremble, defensive lineman Ade Ogundeji, cornerback Houston Griffith transferring are just a few of the players on the move.

Recently, ESPN took a look at which schools have recruited the best (insider) to have success in 2021 due to their recruiting. Although Brian Kelly’s efforts have been great, they didn’t make the main portion of the article, the Irish were mentioned in the second group of teams.

Being on the list alone is a good omen for Notre Dame, as the list of players moving on that were major contributors from this past season is significant. Luckily, Kelly has done a great job accumulating talent in South Bend, giving hope that 2021 won’t have a similar result as the 2016 season did.

Per the ESPN article, the Irish will have 38 players returning to the 2021 roster at the current moment that were ranked inside their top 300. So what does that mean for the ‘21 season?

There will be some bumps in the road with many of the younger players getting their first significant amount of playing time, but that doesn’t mean it will be all bad. This past year saw multiple freshman (cornerback Clarence Lewis, tight end Michael Mayer, running back Chris Tyree, defensive end Rylie Mills and linebacker Jordan Botelho) each show flashes of their futures. The first three really shined and you can add Jordan Johnson to the list as well.

Second-year players like safety Kyle Hamilton, interior lineman Zeke Correll, defensive lineman Isaiah Foskey, running back Kyren Williams, linebacker Marist Liufau, and punter Jay Bramblett were major contributors. This group will need to continue to grow.

As for the 2018 class which was ranked in as the 10th best class nationally, they have struggled to make a significant mark. Griffith transferring along with quarterback Phil Jurkovec already leaving and wide receiver Kevin Austin unable to stay healthy has hurt the classes outlook. Those three were the top ranked players in the class. There, however, have been contributors from that class, with include linebacker Jack Lamb, wide receiver Braden Lenzy and tight end George Takacs, linebacker Bo Bauer and center Jarrett Patterson. This class needs to step up in a big way for the Irish to be successful this coming season.

I haven’t even touched on the potential incoming-freshman contributors, which include tackle Blake Fisher, wide receiver Deion Colzie, guard Rocco Spindler, quarterback Tyler Buchner, linebacker Prince Kollie and other talented players.

The schedule isn’t quite daunting, the first three games should give Kelly plenty of time to get the pups feet wet before their big contest against Wisconsin in Chicago.

In my opinion the Irish are not rebuilding, but they aren’t quite reloading. Having a regular spring schedule will be extremely important for this team. The reps and practice time will further develop the players who don’t have as much experience. We should not see another year like 2016.

5 stars, the best and worst of Notre Dame’s ACC Championship loss

The best and worst performances from Notre Dame in their ACC Championship loss to Clemson.

There wasn’t much to be happy about after this showing in Notre Dame’s first ever season being affiliated with a conference. The Irish had opportunities early to put pressure on Clemson, but were unable to capitalize and shortly after found themselves in a hole they could never dig out of. There weren’t many bright spots today, there were no five star performances, not even a four star. Here are the best and worst performances from the Irish today.

Let’s get wild, game 9! Crazy predictions for Notre Dame vs. UNC

An educated guess at some big performances for Notre Dame players against North Carolina this afternoon.

Bye weeks are the worst, making all of us wait just a bit longer to see the Irish hit the field again. Well, that day is finally here, one day earlier than normal. The Irish don’t have the easiest task ahead, North Carolina presents many challenges but after a bye week, Notre Dame should be rested and ready. Here are a few, crazy, but realistic predictions for Notre Dame today against the Tar Heels.

Notre Dame Will Have Three Representatives in Senior Bowl

Notre Dame isn’t ranked second in the country for nothing.

Notre Dame isn’t ranked second in the country for nothing. The chances of a few members of this year’s team entering the NFL in 2021 are extremely high. That the Irish will have three players in the annual Senior Bowl might be the best evidence of that thus far.

Book, Hayes and Ogundeji all are captains this season and have stood out at one time or another all season. Book has been the straw to stir the Irish’s offense, even if he’s not as talented as some of the other players on that side of the ball. Hayes has racked up a few honors this season and only seems to be getting stronger as the year goes on. Ogundeji is equally strong on that defensive line, and he’s moments that have told the world to pay attention to him.

The NFL is going to better for having all three of this guys in its league. Of course, the immediate hope is that they can lead Notre Dame to a national championship. It will be tough, but they and their teammates are up for the challenge.
