59 days until Browns season opener: 5 players to wear 59 in Cleveland

We have officially left the 60s behind and broken into the 50s.

We continue our march towards Week One of the NFL season as we have left the 60s behind and now only have 59 days remaining. The Browns are also only nine days from the start of training camp on July 22. In total, there have been 21 different players to wear the number 59 for the Cleveland Browns.

It was first worn by Horace Gillom from 1947 until 1951. The most recent player to wear it for the Browns was veteran offensive lineman Joe Haeg who was released earlier this off-season. The trip down memory lane continues as we look back at five players who have suited up for Cleveland wearing the number 59.

4 free agents who could still help the Chiefs in 2023

Our @goldmctNFL takes a look at four free agents who he believes can still help the #Chiefs in 2023.

The Kansas City Chiefs have already assembled their 90-man offseason roster, but they could still make some changes down the line.

While everyone is waiting to see where DeAndre Hopkins lands in free agency, it’s also a reminder that there are some other good veteran players who remain available with training camp rapidly approaching. Kansas City doesn’t have any glaring needs, but as the roster competes at OTAs and mandatory minicamps, the coaches and front office members could have a better idea of what weaknesses they’ll need to address ahead of the season.

Here’s a quick look at four free agents that could still help the Chiefs out in 2023:

Browns add $2 million in cap space after releasing OT Joe Haeg

After adding cap space Friday with post June 1 cuts the Browns have added more space after cutting a veteran offensive lineman

It has been a good couple of days for the Cleveland Browns in terms of adding cap space. After their post-June first cuts of John Johnson and Jadeveon Clowney, the team added over $10 million in cap space. That trend continued on Monday when the team released veteran offensive lineman Joe Haeg a move that adds $2 million more to the available cap space.

Haeg had been with the Browns since September 2022 but didn’t see much action with the team after being placed on Cleveland’s injured reserve the following month.

Some believe that the added salary cap room could lead to a pursuit of superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Cleveland seems to be the front-runner to sign Hopkins right now but this move will likely only serve to create more flexibility for Cleveland as the team moves into the home stretch of the offseason.

Stay tuned to the BrownsWire for more news and information as it comes available.

Nick Chubb, Joel Bitonio, 6 other veterans resting through voluntary OTAs

Relax, it’s voluntary.

The Cleveland Browns are back in Berea for another stint of voluntary OTAs. And while there is always a ton of commotion made about the veterans who do not attend, it is nothing to make a big deal about as they will all be there when mandatory camp rolls around. In fact, among those missing are the golden children of the Browns: running back Nick Chubb and offensive guard Joel Bitonio.

All in all, eight veterans are missing from OTAs in Northeast Ohio. Here are those veterans who will undoubtedly be in the building when the workouts become mandatory.

PFF lists Browns linemen Joe Haeg as possible cap casualty

Could the veteran be one and done in Cleveland?

NFL free agency is just a month away as teams will gear up to fix roster holes before the 2023 season. Each time has players that likely will be cap casualties before then and PFF lists Cleveland Browns offensive linemen Joe Haeg as a possible cap casualty.

Haeg is a versatile and solid veteran depth option but injuries limited him last year and he was inactive nearly all season. It’s smart to have players like this around but with young players like James Hudson and the money spent on the line, this move makes sense. If the Browns cut Haeg they have just 500k in dead cap and cap savings of $2 million.

3 players who could get the axe as cap casualties for the Browns

Which players may not return because of their salary?

The Cleveland Browns have some significant contract extensions that will kick in this next season. They have a ton of rollover cap from 2022 but they still need to clear some space for potential free agents. Andrew Berry has done an excellent job in creating outs in contracts where he can cut players early and gain cap space if the deal isn’t working out.

Cleveland will have to decide if they can find someone cheaper to fill in or if they might restructure the current deals to make space and retain players. Let’s take a look at three players that may be on a new team to create more cap space.

Browns place OL Joe Haeg on Injured Reserve

The Cleveland Browns have placed offensive lineman Joe Haeg on Injured Reserve with a lingering concussion.

The Cleveland Browns signed offensive lineman Joe Haeg to a two-year deal this offseason to be their swing tackle of the future. He has not been active this season on gameday as the Browns continue to have the depth to hold their own at offensive line. However, he has been battling concussions this season, and now today the Browns placed him on Injured Reserve.

Haeg becomes the second Brown this week to hit IR as linebacker Jacob Phillips is also likely out for the season with a pectoral injury. This leaves the Browns with two open roster spots to fill.

Browns name 7 inactives including WR Anthony Schwartz vs. Ravens

The Browns have released their seven inactives vs. the Baltimore Ravens, and second-year wide receiver Anthony Schwartz is among them

The Cleveland Browns have announced their seven inactives for today’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. While the majority are not too big of a surprise, the Browns have, however, listed second-year wide receiver Anthony Schwartz as inactive as well.

The other six names include the injured Denzel Ward, Wyatt Teller, Isaac Rochell, and Joe Haeg. Third-string quarterback Kellen Mond continues to be inactive as well, joined by veteran offensive lineman Chris Hubbard.

Listing five inactives themselves, cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis, wide receiver Tylan Wallace, running back Mike Davis, linebacker A.J. Klein, and guard Ben Cleveland will not suit up for the Ravens.

Browns rule out Wyatt Teller, Denzel Ward vs. Ravens

The Browns will be without three starters against the Ravens

As the Cleveland Browns look to get back on track against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday, they will be without three starters as guard Wyatt Teller and cornerback Denzel Ward have been ruled out. Reserve offensive lineman Joe Haeg has also been ruled out with a concussion as well.

Cornerbacks Martin Emerson and Greedy Williams will once again fill in for Ward and Hjalte Froholdt will fill in for Teller at right guard. Defensive ends Jadeveon Clowney and Isaac Rochell has also been listed as questionable.

It looks, however, like the Browns will get linebacker Deion Jones back to make his debut in the brown and orange. After two full weeks of practice, the coaching staff is optimistic about his communication style and ability to contribute early on.

Browns Injury Report: 8 miss practice Wednesday as Ravens approach

The Browns are without eight players in Wednesday’s practice

As the Cleveland Browns look to right the ship against the Baltimore Ravens, they will have to get healthy in a hurry. On Wednesday’s injury report, the Browns were missing eight players from practice, seven of which are starters on this football team.

A few of the names on the list are scheduled rest days, however, as wide receiver Amari Cooper and guard Joel Bitonio got a day off. While Jack Conklin and Myles Garrett left the game early against the Patriots, neither was in the postgame notes, meaning the Browns are likely just being cautious with them as well.

The more concerning names continue to be defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who has missed three of the last four games, cornerback Denzel Ward, who has been in the concussion protocol for over a week, Wyatt Teller, who is in a walking boot after leaving the game in the first quarter against the Patriots, and Joe Haeg, who is also listed with a concussion.

Thursday and Friday continue to be more indicative of who is healthy enough to play on Sundays, but this is a large number to miss practice nonetheless.
