4 players from Raiders-Jaguars Hall of Fame Game the Texans should consider

The Houston Texans should consider these four players from the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game to add to the team after 53-man cuts.

The Las Vegas Raiders gave new coach Josh McDaniels a happy homecoming to Canton, Ohio, as they beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-11 Thursday night in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

Other than finding solace in a Jacksonville loss, the Houston Texans can also benefit from this game by finding some potential gems who may not make the Jaguars or Raiders 53-man roster.

Many of the players who participated in Thursday night’s commemorative game will have to be cut and Houston is certainly not in a position to say no to taking chances on players with potential. Below are four players that either played well tonight, fit a position of need or would excel in Houston’s scheme.

Notre Dame undrafted NFL rookie tracker

Who do you think has the best chance of making it?

Just because you don’t hear your name called during the NFL draft doesn’t mean your NFL aspirations are cooked. As soon as the draft ended, every team began signing numerous undrafted players as rookie free agents. For most, this will be the extent of their NFL careers as they won’t survive training camp or even OTAs. Still, the fact that a team want to take a flyer on you is a badge of honor you can treasure forever.

Notre Dame stood to have plenty such players this year as only Kyle Hamilton and Kyren Williams were drafted. Sure enough, five additional Irish players were picked up by NFL teams. We don’t know what future professional football holds for these young men, but they at least have a chance to make it at football’s highest level. Here are the former Irish players to be on the lookout for in the near future:

7-Round mock draft 5.0: Vikings trade up for elite talent

The Vikings come out swinging aggressively in this week’s 7-round mock draft

Mock drafts are such a fun exercise because they give you an opportunity to explore different and unique scenarios. The NFL Draft isn’t as cut and dry as most mock drafts will lead you to believe.

In the first four drafts, we took different approaches. From trading down for a receiver to taking an edge rusher, there is are myriad of options for the Vikings.

This week’s seven-round mock draft continues to shake things up a bit, while answering one question: What happens if Kyle Hamilton falls?

Notre Dame players results at 2022 NFL combine

What was your biggest takeaway from this group last week?

Five Notre Dame players were among those who were measured and tested at the 2022 NFL combine throughout the last week.  Wide receiver Kevin Austin, quarterback Jack Coan, safety Kyle Hamilton, defensive lineman Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa, and running back Kyren Williams were the five to participate.

Kevin Austin wowed the scouts with his blazing fast 40-yard dash time while Jack Coan walked away seemingly in better draft position than he entered.  Kyren Williams had a troublesome 40 time which could cause his stock to fall a bit.

Below are the results and measures of all five former Notre Dame players that participated.

Perfect early/late-round edge rusher fit for Eagles in 2022 NFL draft

Perfect early/late-round edge rusher fits for #Philadelphia #Eagles in #NFLDraft2022

With the Super Bowl now in the rearview mirror and the 2022 offseason set to begin with fury, all 32 teams around the league are preparing for the NFL draft.

Philadelphia will have three first-round picks and four of the first 55 picks overall, setting the Eagles up for a monumental reload if Howie Roseman can land the talent needed to upgrade Jonathan Gannon’s defense.

The Eagles build from the inside out, and they prefer to stock the roster with talented pass rushers. The 2022 NFL draft class is stacked with pass-rushing defensive ends, defensive tackles, and jack of all trade pass-rushing outside linebackers.

The Birds will have the opportunity to land multiple edge rushers, and we’ve highlighted the perfect group of early/late-round fits.

Four Notre Dame commits to play in Polynesian Bowl

Want to watch the future of the football program?

Want to catch a glimpse at some of the Notre Dame stars of tomorrow? Was the All-American Bowl not enough for you? You’re in luck if you’re able to stay up late. The Polynesian Bowl will be played at 11:30 p.m. EST Saturday on the CBS Sports Network, and four recruits who have committed to Notre Dame are on the roster.

The four players to look out for are as follows:

  • Receiver Tobias Merriweather of Camas, Washington
  • Tight end Holden Staes of Atlanta
  • Linebacker Niuafe Tuihalamaka of Mission Hills, California
  • Offensive tackle Aamil Wagner of Dayton, Ohio

Notre Dame commits who previously have played in this game include Chris Tyree, Marist Liufau, Jayson Ademilola, Braden Lenzy and Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa. While making this game obviously is not a reflection of how they’ll play in college, it does make people excited about what the future of the program could be. If you’re curious about that or you simply want to watch more football, this is the game to tune into.

Tagovailola-Amosa accepts Shrine Bowl invitation

How much will you miss watching MTA?

Myron Tagovailola-Amosa (MTA) will be officially be playing his final game for Notre Dame in Saturday’s Fiesta Bowl as the defensive end has accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl.  Notre Dame’s official Twitter account made the announcement on Wednesday.

MTA is a fifth-year senior but has a year of eligibility remaining due to the COVID year the NCAA put into place for all players in 2020.

MTA finished this regular season with 20 tackles, a pair of sacks, and a fumble return for a touchdown that will go down as one of the greatest senior day memories in recent Notre Dame memory.

Notre Dame football: top 10 plays of 2021 season

What was your favorite play of Notre Dame’s 2021 regular season?

Coming into the 2021 football season Notre Dame had a preseason top-10 ranking but plenty of outlets had the Irish projected to take a significant step back this fall.  As it turns out, Notre Dame finished the regular season as the fifth-ranked team in the College Football Playoff rankings and will cap their season against Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl on January 1.

The regular season brought some great highs, including comeback victories over Toledo and Virginia Tech in the closing minutes and some straight blow outs, especially over the final month.  In those, plenty of memorable plays were made in all phases of the game.

Here are what we decided were the ten best plays of Notre Dame’s 2021 football season:
