Eagles updated 76-player roster as 2024 offseason program gets underway

We’re looking at the Philadelphia Eagles updated 76 man roster as the offseason workout program gets underway

The Eagles are back at the NovaCare Complex as the offseason program begins for 76 select veterans and second-year players.

The nine-week training program has three phases: one mandatory minicamp for the entire roster and one rookie minicamp for each group.

Phase One consists of the first two weeks of the program, with activities limited to meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only.

Phase Two consists of the next three weeks of the program with on-field workouts, which may include individual or group instruction.

Phase Three consists of the next four weeks of the program, during which teams may conduct ten days of organized team practice activities, or “OTAs.”

No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are allowed.

The Eagles are changing their offseason program, including adding a mandatory minicamp for the first time under Nick Sirianni. They will have 7 OTAs (May 20, May 22-23, May 28, May 30-31) and three days of mandatory minicamp (June 4-6). In 2022 and 2023, they had six total OTAs.

With the workouts and on-field training underway, we’re looking at Philadelphia’s updated 76-player roster ahead of next week’s NFL draft.

Haason Reddick ‘excited’ to join Jets, has ‘a lot left in the tank’

Haason Reddick ‘excited’ to join Jets, has ‘a lot left in the tank’

New Jets edge-rusher Haason Reddick is ready for what he calls an “exciting” chapter in his life with his new team. The Jets officially announced the acquisition of Reddick earlier this week from the Philadelphia Eagles, about two weeks after the Eagles signed Bryce Huff at the start of free agency.

Still just 29 years old, Reddick, a native of Camden, New Jersey, says he has a lot left in the tank.

“Me personally, I feel like I have a lot left in the tank,” Reddick told reporters this week, via the Jets’ official website. “If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be here, and that’s pretty much that. I feel like when I don’t have any more to give, I’ll retire. Until that point, I’m going to continue to try to play my best ball. As far as the Eagles go though, it wasn’t about what he has left in the tank or anything like that, it’s a business, and sometimes hard decisions have to be made, even if you don’t like them. I am excited about what is next.”

After the Eagles signed Huff, questions regarding Reddick’s future in Philadelphia started popping up. The Eagles also restructured the contract of Josh Sweat, guaranteeing him $10 million this season after his previous contract did not have any guaranteed money for this season.

That only further questioned Reddick’s future. The Jets swooped in and helped answer that question by flipping a conditional third-round pick in 2026 (yes, two years from now) to the Eagles in exchange for Reddick. The pick becomes a second-round pick if Reddick plays at least 67.5% of the snaps and has at least ten sacks this season. Reddick is on a streak of four straight seasons with 10+ sacks, including 11 in 2023.

Reddick bolsters the pass-rush rotation that also returns Jermaine Johnson (7.5 sacks in 2023), Solomon Thomas (5), John Franklin-Myers (3.5) and Will McDonald (3). That rotation is also something Reddick is looking forward to this season in New York.

“I love it and the fact that we have a bunch of young dawgs that we are going to make it all easier for each other,” Reddick said. “The attack, the attack, the attack style, I am all for it. I am all about constantly putting QB’s under duress. With the group that we have, the front that we have, we should be able to do that really often.”

Only two defensive linemen — Johnson and Quinnen Williams — played more than 60% of the defensive snaps in 2023, a testament to the way defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich utilizes his players up front. How Reddick gets utilized will be interesting to watch. But as he said, he has a lot left in the tank. The Jets really need that motor this season.

Former Wisconsin Badgers linebacker ranks in top five in major NFL category

The NFL season is still six months away, but the league never leaves the front page and a former Wisconsin Badgers linebacker received some attention Monday.

Pittsburgh Steelers standout edge rusher TJ Watt ranks second only to Haason Reddick in forced fumbles since the beginning of the 2020 campaign, which comes as no surprise. After two seasons with the Eagles, Reddick will be a New York Jet in 2024, joining Watt in the AFC.

Watt has been electric since he was selected in the first round (30th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft, ranking at or near the top of the league in sacks, forced fumbles, quarterback pressures and more.

Jets officially announce Haason Reddick trade

Not an April Fool’s joke: Haason Reddick is officially a New York Jet.

This is not an April Fool’s joke, Haason Reddick is officially a member of the New York Jets. The team officially announced the move Monday.

The Jets acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a conditional third-round pick in 2026. The pick becomes a second-rounder if Reddick plays at least 67.5 percent of the snaps this season and records at least 10 sacks.

If Reddick continues his current pace, hitting the sack condition should be no trouble. Reddick has posted double-digit sacks in four straight seasons, doing so for three different teams (Eagles, Panthers, Cardinals). He was named to the Pro Bowl in each of his two seasons with the Eagles.

The snap count will be an interesting one to follow, given the way the Jets rotate their defensive linemen. The highest snap percentage among defensive linemen in 2023 for the Jets was defensive tackle Quinnen Williams at 68.5 percent. Jermaine Johnson, who had 7.5 sacks, played 65.8% of the snaps. Every other defensive linemen played under 60%. Setting the mark at 67.5% could be the cusp for Reddick, but if he does hit the mark, the Jets will gladly hand over a second-round pick in two years to the Eagles.

Reddick has totaled 51 sacks over the past four seasons, which is fourth-most in the NFL in that time. Only Pittsburgh’s T.J. Watt (62), Cleveland’s Myles Garrett (58) and Cincinnati’s Trey Hendrickson (53) have more.

The Jets were looking for a veteran pass-rusher after losing 2023 sack leader Bryce Huff (10 sacks in 2023) to the Eagles. They had eyed Jadeveon Clowney (signed with Carolina) and Shaq Barrett (signed with Miami). They get their man in Reddick in what is a make-or-break season in Florham Park. Reddick joins Johnson, John Franklin-Myers and Will McDonald in what should be another strong season on the edge for the Jets.

AFC East: Jets acquire pass rusher Haason Reddick from Eagles

An addition in the AFC East:

The New York Jets have bolstered their pass rush over the weekend in a notable way.

The Jets have acquired edge defender Haason Reddick in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

New York is sending the Eagles a conditional third-round pick in 2026 that can become a second. The pick improves if Reddick plays at least 67.5 percent of the defensive snaps and records at least 10 sacks this season.

Ironically enough, the Eagles signed former Jets pass rusher Bryce Huff this offseason. The two now essentially switch places.

Reddick has hit double-digit sacks in each of the last four seasons.

While it’s no guarantee that Reddick will keep up those numbers in New York, it’s an acquisition Buffalo will be aware of. Not only have their rivals acquired a top talent who now joins Jermaine Johnson, Will McDonald, John Franklin-Myers and Micheal Clemons on the edge… there is also plus Quinnen Williams in the middle.

Reddick will eventually learn of there being no love lost between these two teams as well. Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins has notably gotten into fights with the Jets defense both on and off the field since the 2023 season.

Having said that… Reddick and Dawkins both attended Temple University.

Reddick, 29, has faced the Bills three times in his career. He has two QB hits and half a sack in those outings.

The rivalry might grow even larger with Reddick’s addition.

Panthers’ signing of Jadeveon Clowney caused Jets to target Haason Reddick

Carolina’s addition of Jadeveon Clowney played a factor in determining the future of an old friend.

The Carolina Panthers just helped determine the fate of an old friend.

On Friday, the New York Jets struck an agreement to acquire two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Haason Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles. The 2017 first-round pick, who will be joining the fourth different organization of his eight-year NFL career, played in Carolina for the 2022 campaign.

Well, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Panthers’ ability to beat the Jets to the punch on another all-star edge defender proved to be the domino that pushed Reddick to New York:

The Panthers, of course, just signed Rock Hill, S.C. native Jadeveon Clowney to a two-year, $20 million pact that could be worth up to $24 million. And before Carolina was able to nab the former No. 1 overall pick with the hometown feels and that pretty sweet deal, New York was proving to be some stiff competition for Clowney’s services.

But, at the end of the day, both the Panthers and the Jets were able to add some serious pass-rushing power to their defenses.

Eagles trade Haason Reddick to Jets

The Cardinals never were reported to have been in talks with the Eagles but another pass rusher is off the board for Arizona.

Arizona Cardinals fans might have gotten excited at the possibility of the return of former first-round draft pick Haason Reddick when it was reported that Reddick was given permission by the Philadelphia Eagles to seek a trade.

That excitement can end because the Eagles did not trade Reddick to the Cardinals. They traded him to the New York Jets, who are now expected to sign him to a contract extension.

Per ESPN’s report by Adam Schefter, Reddick goes to the Jets for a 2025 conditional third-round pick. If he plays 67.5% of the Jets’ defensive snaps and has 10 or more sacks in 2024, that pick will become a second-rounder.

Those are marks he has reached in each of the last four seasons.

Reddick is entering the final year of a three-year, $45 million deal he signed with the Eagles in 2022.

He is due a $1 million roster bonus April 1, and the Eagles will reportedly pay that, meaning the Jets will be only on the hook for his $14.25 million salary in 2024.

There was never any report that the Cardinals were involved in any trade talks with the Eagles, so they might not have even entered the conversation.

However, considering the massive need the Cardinals appear to have at outside linebacker, acquiring a player with 50.5 sacks over the last four years would have made a lot of sense. Reddick had his best season in 2021, when Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon was his defensive coordinator and defensive coordinator Nick Rallis was his position coach.

Eagles trade All-Pro pass rusher Haason Reddick to the Jets

Haason Reddick was looking for a contract extension and the Philadelphia Eagles have traded the Pro Bowl pass rusher to the New York Jets

We wrote about Haason Reddick and the Eagles likely discussing a potential extension or the All-Pro pass rusher taking his talents elsewhere.

Adam Schefter reports that Philadelphia is trading Reddick to the New York Jets.

Reddick finished the year with 11.0 sacks and 38 tackles in 17 regular-season games, and he recorded double-digit sacks for the fourth consecutive season, leading his team in that category and tying for 15th in the NFL.

Had Nolan Smith shown that he was ready to be an elite pass rusher, the idea would have been to cut Reddick, saving the Eagles $11 million after the dead money allotment.

Outside of the sacks, though, Reddick’s numbers were poor by his standards.

His 38 tackles were the second-lowest mark of his career, and he didn’t force or recover a fumble after forcing five and recovering three last season. His snap share (74 percent) remained identical, indicating the drop-off wasn’t due to a lack of opportunities but mismanagement from coaches.

He’ll now swap teams with Bryce Huff.
