Eagles updated 76-player roster as 2024 offseason program gets underway

We’re looking at the Philadelphia Eagles updated 76 man roster as the offseason workout program gets underway

The Eagles are back at the NovaCare Complex as the offseason program begins for 76 select veterans and second-year players.

The nine-week training program has three phases: one mandatory minicamp for the entire roster and one rookie minicamp for each group.

Phase One consists of the first two weeks of the program, with activities limited to meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only.

Phase Two consists of the next three weeks of the program with on-field workouts, which may include individual or group instruction.

Phase Three consists of the next four weeks of the program, during which teams may conduct ten days of organized team practice activities, or “OTAs.”

No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are allowed.

The Eagles are changing their offseason program, including adding a mandatory minicamp for the first time under Nick Sirianni. They will have 7 OTAs (May 20, May 22-23, May 28, May 30-31) and three days of mandatory minicamp (June 4-6). In 2022 and 2023, they had six total OTAs.

With the workouts and on-field training underway, we’re looking at Philadelphia’s updated 76-player roster ahead of next week’s NFL draft.

Every move the Eagles have made so far this offseason

We’re 16 days away from the start of the 2024 NFL draft’s first round, and the Eagles along with 31 other teams have started preparing for a fast approaching training camp and regular season.

Philadelphia has been dilligent in retooling the coaching staff and a roster that’ll be without Fletcher Cox and Jason Kelce for the first time since 2010.

The Eagles have been active this offseason, adding Saquon Barkley, Bryce Huff and Kenny Pickett among others, while Haason Reddick was traded, and a handful of other free agents departed.

With the final draft preparation underway, we’re looking at every move Philadelphia has made this off-season.

We’re looking at the 15 biggest cap hits for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024 after the first wave of NFL free agency

Change is always good for the soul, and after losing six of their final seven games, including a wild-card loss to the Buccaneers, Philadelphia has undergone a dramatic reconstruction that could pay off with championship dividends.

Offensive coordinators Brian Johnson (Commanders) and Sean Desai (Rams) have left, replaced by Vic Fangio (DC) and Kellen Moore (OC).

The Eagles have retooled their roster on both sides of the football after inking DE Bryce Huff, RB Saquon Barkley, OLB Zach Baun, OL Matt Hennessy, WR DeVante Parker, S/CB C.J. Gardner-Johnson, LB Devin White, LB Oren Burks, DT PJ Mustipher, WR Parris Campbell, and CB Tyler Hall to deals during the first wave.

Philadelphia then traded for quarterback Kenny Pickett while extending Landon Dickerson and Jake Elliott.

Philadelphia currently has about  $33,657,986 in cap space per Over The Cap, and they’re spending about $100+ million plus on both sides of the football.

The Eagles also have a Haason Reddick dilemma that’ll be resolved in the next week or more.

The biggest salary cap hits have changed, with Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox counting until they’re officially released on June 1.

With the first wave of free agency completed, we’re taking an updated look at the 15 biggest salary cap hits for the Eagles, according to Over The Cap.

Former Raiders CB Tyler Hall signs with Eagles on one-year deal

Raiders free agent CB Tyler Hall joins Eagles on one-year deal

Another Raiders free agent has found a new home. This time it’s cornerback Tyler Hall who signed on with the Eagles.

Hall spent the past two seasons with the Raiders appearing in 31 games with six starts.

Hall spent part of the time on the practice squad, but played well enough to be elevated several times and signed to the active roster as well.

The four-year veteran compiled four pass breakups and 40 combined tackles in his two seasons in Las Vegas.

In 2021, prior to joining the Raiders, he would get a ring with the Rams, having appeared in four games that season.

Eagles to sign slot CB Tyler Hall to a 1-year deal

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing defensive back Tyler Hall to a one-year deal

According to Zach Berman, the Eagles are adding another defensive back to the roster, agreeing to a deal with Tyler Hall.

Hall spent time on the Raiders’ active roster and practice squad last season, appearing in 11 games.

Philadelphia released Avonte Maddox this offseason, and Hall adds depth at the Nickel position, having played 78% of his career snaps in the slot.

The Wyoming product recorded 20 tackles while seeing snaps in the slot on defense and special teams.

He’ll likely be working to earn a similar role with Philadelphia in 2024.

Raiders Week 7 snap counts vs Bears: CB Tyler Hall goes from spot starter to zero snaps

Raiders CB Tyler Hall went from spot starter off the practice squad to zero snaps on the active roster.

With Nate Hobbs missing the past month with an ankle injury, the Raiders have needed some other cornerbacks to step up. The primary two cornerbacks who had done that were Amik Robertson and Tyler Hall.

In fact, in the team’s wins over the Packers and Patriots in Weeks five and six, Hall was elevated from the practice squad and started those games.

His performance in those games, along with the continued absence of Hobbs got Hall signed to the active roster the moment a spot opened up. And it had Josh McDaniels saying this about him.

“I mean, he did it last year too when he had his opportunities,” McDaniels said of Hall. “He went in there and he’s just been productive. He knows what to do, he’s a very smart kid, he prepares really hard. Very diligent when he’s not on the active, he prepares just like he’s going to play. And then when we’ve elevated him a handful of times here in two years. He does his job, he’s dependable, he communicates well with the rest of the secondary and the defense, and he makes plays. He’s productive, he tackles, he runs to the ball, he covers, and he contributes in the kicking game too. So, all the things you would want a player to do that’s on the practice squad trying to get himself elevated to the game, Tyler does them, and when he’s ready to go, he’s made the most of his opportunities.”

Come game time, rookie CB Jakorian Bennett was inactive which would mean you figure the team is once again looking to Hall, right? Not so much.

Oddly, Hall didn’t see a single snap on defense. Meanwhile they put a reprehensible product on the field and were ran out of Chicago. Seems like they could’ve used a guy who tackles and runs to the ball. But nah.

QB Jimmy Garoppolo, CB Nate Hobbs both OUT Sunday for Raiders, no starters announced

QB Jimmy Garoppolo, CB Nate Hobbs both OUT Sunday for Raiders, no starters announced

Prior to Friday’s practice, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels confirmed Jimmy Garoppolo will not play Sunday when the team travels to Chicago to face the Bills.

This would suggest Garoppolo will not be on the field for their final practice just as he had missed the first two practices this week with a back injury.

Garoppolo suffered the back injury in last Sunday’s game against the Patriots. He left the stadium via ambulance at half time and was replaced by veteran backup Brian Hoyer.

“It’s a medical decision,” said Josh McDaniels of Garopppolo’s non-availability for the game.

As to who will start in his place, McDaniels was tight lipped about it.

When Garoppolo missed a start earlier this season due to a concussion, it was rookie Aidan O’Connell who got the nod. But every game this season it has been Hoyer as the primary backup.

“Both guys are having a good week practicing,” McDaniels said Friday of Hoyer and O’Connell. “We’ll see how today goes and we’re just going to make the decision. At the end of the day both of them are going to be ready to go. I have confidence in both of them. The good thing is both of them have played already, so that’s a unique situation. In six games we’ve have three quarterbacks who have all competed in close games. So, I am confident in both of them.”

While it’s possible McDaniels is still making his decision on a starter, it’s more likely he’s already made his decision, but would rather not reveal that decision.

McDaniels also said cornerback Nate Hobbs will miss his fourth straight game with an ankle injury. His replacement will be a combination of Amik Robertson and Tyler Hall

Hall has been called up from the practice squad the past few weeks due to Hobbs being out. He held up well enough to this week earn being signed to the active roster. Both he and Robertson started the past two weeks.

After weeks of practice squad elevations CB Tyler Hall finally signed to Raiders active roster

After weeks of practice squad elevations CB Tyler Hall finally signed to Raiders active roster

Today the Raiders made what seemed like an inevitable move — they signed cornerback Tyler Hall to the active roster.

It seemed like it was bound to happen simply because despite spending much of this season on the team’s practice squad, he was called up to the active roster the past three weeks and even started the past two games; both wins. Last week he played a career-high 46 snaps (77%).

Hall had appeared in seven of the team’s final eight games last season including three starts and showed up well. Not for nothing, the Raider have won four of his five starts.

The fourth year cornerback bided his time this season after being waived at the final cutdown and re-signing to the practice squad. Now after six weeks he is getting the call to officially sign onto the roster. I mean, he was pretty much already doing it anyway.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders placed DB Roderic Teamer on injured reserve. They replaced Hall’s spot on the practice squad by bringing back TE John Samuel-Shenker.

The team also brought back WR DJ Turner and CB Sam Webb onto the practice squad.

Breakout candidates for each team in the AFC West

Our @LazarczykLogan takes a look at 2023 breakout candidates for the #Chiefs, #Chargers, #Raiders and #Broncos.

It is well-documented that there is immense talent within the AFC West, yet last season, several teams from the division underperformed and failed to meet lofty expectations.

The only team that had great success was the Kansas City Chiefs. The Los Angeles Chargers made the playoffs but surrendering a 27-0 lead makes a playoff appearance almost regrettable. Then there are the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders, who both thought they could challenge for the division, but both failed to even make the playoffs as a wildcard team.

This season, there are still going to be lofty expectations for these teams and their players, despite their performance a season agoLet’s take a look at who can break out for each of these teams in the AFC West in order to help them achieve those goals:
