Every Boston Celtics jersey in team history worn by ONLY one player

This is every player in Celtics history who was the only player to wear their jersey number.

The Boston Celtics have more retired jerseys than any other team in the NBA does, and given that knowledge, it might surprise you that they have plenty of jerseys only worn by one player in the entire 75-year history of the team.

Of course, a few of them are among those retired jerseys, but quite a few of them are not. As we draw near to the end of the 2023 offseason series of every jersey ever worn by a Boston Celtics player in the regular season, we would of course be remiss if we skipped out on these loners.

Let’s take a look at those most unique of Celtics jerseys throughout the years.

Boston cuts 2021-22 two-way wing Brodric Thomas

Despite success in Maine, the Truman State University product struggled to put things together.

The Boston Celtics have waived wing Brodric Thomas according to reporting from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto on Wednesday afternoon.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard played a dozen games for the Celtics last season, flashing potential in the time he spent on assignment with the Maine Celtics in Portland. There, Thomas logged an impressive 19.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.3 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game in the 7 appearances he made with Boston’s G League outfit, shooting a sizzling 46.7% from beyond the arc. That did not translate to the NBA, where the former Truman State University player struggled.

Thomas recorded 1.8 points and just under an assist per game while shooting just 22.2% from deep in his time playing with the team’s parent club in Boston.

Boston Celtics release FULL 2022-23 preseason roster

These are all 20 players who will be on the Celtics’ roster heading into preseason.

The Boston Celtics have officially released their full training camp roster for the 2022-23 NBA season, with the team currently at a total of 20 players on it — the maximum allowed in an offseason per league rules.

The league has Celtics preseason exhibition games scheduled against the Charlotte Hornets (Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1 pm ET and Friday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 pm ET) and the Toronto Raptors (Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 pm ET and Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 pm ET), with the last of the four friendlies scheduled to take place in Montreal, Quebec, Canada as part of the NBA Canada series making a return.

Let’s take a look at all of the players who will be on Boston’s roster at the start of preseason play to kick off the month of October and a return to NBA basketball.

All six players at the Boston Celtics training camp on non-guaranteed deals

Expected to be an intense competition due to the fact that the prospects are competing for a real role with the team, Boston has between one and three roster spots they could be invited to fill.

The Boston Celtics appear to have their 2022 training camp roster set, with a total of six players having been invited to join the players the Celtics already have on their roster as regular or two way players.

The team has a need to help fill minutes for its wing, forward, and center roles this season with a dearth of proven players in the frontcourt compounded by an injury to veteran swingman Danilo Gallinari that is likely to keep him out all of this coming season. Expected to be an intense competition due to the fact that the prospects are competing for a real role with the team, Boston has between one and three roster spots they could be invited to fill.

Let’s take a look at the prospects who will take part in the Celtics’ training camp this season on non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contracts.

Report: Boston Celtics expected to sign wing Brodric Thomas ahead of training camp

In recent weeks, Boston has brought on Jake Layman, Bruno Caboclo, Noah Vonleh, Justin Jackson, and Denzel Valentine on camp deals.

The Boston Celtics will add former two-way wing Brodric Thomas to their 2022 training camp roster, according to MassLive’s Brian Robb.

With the move, the Celtics will be at the maximum number of players for training camp (20) with 19 currently signed to camp, two-way or regular deals at present. In recent weeks, Boston has brought in Jake Layman, Bruno Caboclo, Noah Vonleh, Justin Jackson and Denzel Valentine on camp deals.

Luke Kornet and Mfiondu Kabengele will also reportedly be in the mix in a competition to fill two to three roster spots that are open.

With real playing time at stake after the ACL injury of veteran forward Danilo Gallinari, Boston training camp for this season is shaping up to be an intense one.

Celtics to reportedly use training camp to fill remaining roster spots

Big men Noah Vonleh and Bruno Caboclo will be among that cadre, as will veteran forward Justin Jackson and last season’s two-way wing Brodric Thomas.

With 12 open roster spots for the 2022-23 NBA season, the Boston Celtics reportedly plan to have prospective players compete to for at least some of those spots. Per reporting from The Athletic’s Jay King, big men Noah Vonleh and Bruno Caboclo, who were recently signed to camp deals, will be among that group, as will veteran forward Justin Jackson and last season’s two-way wing Brodric Thomas.

King also noted 2021-22 two-way wing Matt Ryan “now sounds less likely to return to Boston” despite having recovered from the ankle injury he sustained in the 2022 NBA 2K23 Las Vegas Summer League play for the Celtics.

Interestingly, The Athletic reporter also related “the Celtics are said to prefer younger players who have room to grow and will be more likely to embrace a limited role” over signing any of several still free agent veteran big men. King cited the recently signed two-way big man, Mfiondu Kabengele, as one such player.

JD Davison, Brodric Thomas reportedly to compete for full 2022-23 roster slot with Boston Celtics

Davison will be tendered a two way deal soon to start, per The Athletic’s Jared Weiss.

Las Vegas Summer League and training camp will look particularly large for the Boston Celtics‘ 2022 draft pick JD Davison and 2021-22 two way guard Brodric Thomas, with the duo likely competing for a regular-season spot on the team’s 2022-23 roster.

Per The Athletic’s Jared Weiss, Davison “will formalize a two-way deal with the Celtics soon” but “are expected to compete for a full roster spot” before the start of next season. Either way, whichever of the duo ended up with that spot would likely see most of their floor time with the Maine Celtics (Boston’s Portland-based G League affiliate) given where each is in their respective developmental path.

The trade that shipped out Daniel Theis, Aaron Nesmith, Nik Stauskas, Juwan Morgan, and Malik Fitts for Malcolm Brogdon opened up several roster spots in need of filling.

Boston will add at least two more players to their team with 11 currently under contract plus the noted full roster slot for Davison or Thomas to get to the league-mandated 14 regular contracts.

They could also go for a 15th player if the right value comes along, but if the team wants to remain flexible (and cheaper, considering their substantial extant tax bill), particularly if they believe in their two way players to add spot minutes in a pinch.

FULL 2022 Boston Celtics Las Vegas Summer League roster announced

On Tuesday, the Celtics announced their full Las Vegas Summer League roster.

As has been the annual tradition (save of course for the height of the pandemic), the Boston Celtics are assembling a Las Vegas Summer League squad to get in some run at the 2022 Sin City exhibition series, and on Tuesday morning, the team announced their full roster for the Nevada friendlies we all love to put far too much stock into.

There were plenty of familiar faces assigned to it we expected to be on the summer league team, a stashed floor general making the trip back stateside for another go at making a roster spot in the NBA, and a few new names to learn more about in the coming days and weeks.

Let’s see who will be this year’s Vegas Summer Celtics.

Boston assistant GM Austin Ainge reveals partial roster for Celtics’ 2022 Las Vegas Summer League squad

We now know at least some of the players headed to Sin City this July.

The Boston Celtics will field a team at the 2022 NBA Las Vegas Summer League, and the first of their four contests in the exhibition series is scheduled for July 9.

The Celtics will need to populate the roster of their summer league squad. Some of the players will be drawn from the team’s younger, more inexperienced ranks. Speaking with the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, assistant Celtics general manager Austin Ainge revealed the players currently on the roster who will participate in this year’s Celtics summer league team.

Aaron Nesmith is undecided whether he will take part and unselected 2022 NBA draft prospects will undoubtedly be added to the roster, but let’s take a look at who we know will play for Boston in Las Vegas in July.

WATCH: Boston two way wing Brodric Thomas gets 32 points, 10 boards with Maine Celtics

The two way wing had some help from camp invitee Theo Pinson.

The Boston Celtics have been seeing their new two way players make some noise in the G League of late, with Sam Hauser currently at the top of the developmental league as a 3-point marksman as we have previously reported, and now fellow two way prospect Brodric Thomas going on an absolute tear to help push the (Portland) Maine Celtics (previously Red Claws) to a 6 – 1 record — among the best in the G League at the moment.

Thomas did it by putting up 32 points and 10 rebounds for the G League Celtics, hitting 10-of-15 shot attempts from the floor to help secure the win. Boston’s two way shooting guard had some help in a familiar face that game as well, with Celtics camp invitee Theo Pinson logging 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting (including 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc).

Watch the video embedded below to see the best of Thomas and Pinson in their big night for the Maine Celtics, courtesy of the G League’s Twitter account.
