On this day: Boston Celtic guards Isaiah Thomas, Milt Palacio born

On this day in Celtics history: point guards Isaiah Thomas and Milt Palacio were born.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, former Celtics fan favorite floor general Isaiah Jamar Thomas — also known as IT — was born in Tacoma, Washington back in 1989. The Tacoma native would play his NCAA ball with the University of Washington Huskies, picked up with the 60th and final pick of the 2011 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings.

IT would play stints there and with the Phoenix Suns before being traded to the Celtics for Marcus Thornton and draft assets as part of a major three-team deal. The King in the Fourth (as Thomas was often called as a nickname due to his late-game scoring prowess) would quickly become an offensive force with the Celtics.

He would play three seasons with Boston between 2015 and 2017.

Danilo Gallinari holds no grudges against the Boston Celtics

Even though it was a childhood dream to play for the Celtics, Gallinari doesn’t begrudge the Celtics for trading him.

Even though it was a childhood dream to play for the Boston Celtics, former Boston forward Danilo Gallinari doesn’t begrudge the Celtics for trading him away as part of the package that landed star big man Kristaps Porzingis in Boston. “Betrayed?” asked Gallo rhetorically in an interview with Mundo Deportivo’s Tony Canyameras (translated from Spanish). “No, it’s the nature of the business, I don’t feel bad about it,” he explained.

Part of why he was dealt was the lack of certainty surrounding his torn ACL that had him sit out his sole season on the Celtics roster, but he’s feeling much better with more than a year of recuperation behind him. “I feel good, improving day by day, I am happy with the process,” he shared.

Playing what he calls “a role similar to that of the last three or four years, coming off the bench to help the team by being effective and being one of the best leaders,” Gallinari is being the consummate professional despite being on a rebuilding squad after signing with a contending one.

Even as a pro’s pro, it’s human nature to wonder how things might have played out had he stayed healthy. “There are many moments when I think about what could have happened if it hadn’t been for the injuries,” Gallo admitted.

He’s lost significant time to injury with the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets before Boston. “And last season I had the opportunity to be part of a ring team and I got injured. There are several ‘what if’ moments.”

Handing out some end of year awards to the Boston Celtics

The 2023 calendar year may be behind us, but the 2023-24 season continues.

The 2023 calendar year may be behind us, but the 2023-24 season continues. That doesn’t mean we can appreciate some of the highs and lows of 2023 for the Boston Celtics and the NBA more generally, however, which was the focus of the last podcast episode of the year from the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” show.

The hosts handed out some imaginary end-of-year awards and reacted to a major NBA trade by the New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors that could shake up the league’s Eastern Conference standings a bit by season’s end. As far as the year-end hardware goes, awards for Boston’s player of the year, the best game, funniest moment, and more were addressed.

To hear how the Knicks – Raptors deal might affect the Celtics and to learn who was awarded what for 2023, take a look at the clip embedded below.

Will Boston Celtics fix being 2023’s biggest Boston sports letdown in the 2024 NBA playoffs?

The Celtics fell short in the 2023 postseason – can they win it all in 2024?

2023 was a disappointing year for Boston sports fans, but there’s hope ahead given how the Boston Celtics have started their 2023-24 season. The Celtics and Boston Bruins fell short in the 2023 playoffs, the Red Sox finished dead last, and the New England Patriots will likely join them there this season.

The Celtics’ loss in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Miami Heat was the biggest disappointment. Many believed the Celtics had the talent to win the NBA title, but they came up short against Miami despite having home court advantage. The Bruins also failed to meet expectations, losing Game 7 at home in the first round of the NHL playoffs, but at least they made the postseason.

Will the Celtics avenge their 2023 letdown in the 2024 postseason, and bring honor back to New England sports?

NBC Sports Boston’s Andy Hart and Tom Giles joined Trenni Casey on “Arbella Early Edition” to talk it over — check it out above!

How much better are the Boston Celtics this season?

Changes in roster makeup, the team’s defensive capabilities, and individual player improvements are all factors.

The Boston Celtics have put together a strong start to the 2023-24 NBA season, prompting comparisons to their performance last year by some league analysts given they started that campaign with a fairly similar record.

Changes in roster makeup, the team’s defensive capabilities, and individual player improvements are all making a mark on Boston’s record this season. The addition of key players like Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, and the positive influence of role players who understand and embrace their roles are also a significant difference. On the latest episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast, hosts Adam Kaufman and Even Valenti were joined by Steve Bulpett of Heavy Sports.

They talked about the Celtics hot start to the season and how the depth is a lot better than a lot of people thought it would be going into the year.

Eddie House fires back at Orlando Magic’s Cole Anthony for motivation comments

House also said that if he, retired since 2011, was still a motivating force for Orlando, then there might be a bigger issue for the team to contend with.

Former Boston Celtics shooting guard and current broadcaster Eddie House recently responded to comments made by Orlando Magic point guard Cole Anthony regarding how his words motivated the Magic to beat the Celtics, and continue to serve as a source of inspiration.

House, known for freely sharing his candid views, defended his statements, emphasizing that he was merely expressing his honest assessment of the team’s performance up to that point of their current rebuild. One of the focal points of House’s response was the term “garbage,” which he used to describe the Magic’s play. He clarified that his intention was not to disparage individual players but to highlight the team’s struggles.

House also said that if he, retired since 2011, was still a motivating force for Orlando, then there might be a bigger issue for the team to contend with.

Former Celtics guard Malcolm Brogdon’s Wellesly home sold

Brogdon, who was dealt to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the trade that sent Jrue Holiday to the Celtics, recently decided to sell his home.

If Malcolm Brogdon had any desire to put his stint with the Boston Celtics behind him entirely, recent news suggests that this is one step closer to being possible with the Virginia alum’s Boston-area home selling very soon after going on the market, per NBC 10 Boston’s Cindy Bailen.

Brogdon, who was dealt to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the trade that sent Jrue Holiday to the Celtics, recently decided to sell his home in Wellesley. This new building, situated in the Cliff Estates neighborhood, was in excellent condition and was bought by Brogdon just over a year ago in August 2022 for a sum of $4,400,000 according to the article.

The property boasted an impressive 7,323 square feet of luxury living space, with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. In a quick turnaround, the property was sold within a week of being offered for sale.

Why the Boston Celtics’ hot start this season is different from last year’s

The team has taken a different stylistic approach, particularly in their offensive strategy, with a more varied shot diet for one.

The Boston Celtics‘ hot start to the NBA’s 2023-24 season has fans wondering what is different compared to how the Celtics started their 2022-23 campaign. The team has taken a different stylistic approach, particularly in their offensive strategy, with a more varied shot diet for one.

Last season, they relied heavily on driving from the elbows and kicking out to the weak side when they weren’t hoisting up 3-pointers from elsewhere on the court, but this year they have added more variety to their scoring options. They now have a starting lineup consisting of five players who can dribble, pass, and shoot effectively. This lineup includes players of different positions and sizes, giving them an advantage in terms of versatility.

Overall, the Celtics’ collective skill set is considered one of the best in the NBA.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “First to the Floor” podcast recently took a close look at the changes in this season from last; check it out above!

JJ Redick on how he nearly became a Boston Celtics assistant coach

Redick would ultimately pass on the opportunity given how little time he would have had to get ready for the season to come but still has an interest in making the leap to the other side of the clipboard.

Now perhaps as well known for his “Old Man and the 3” podcast as for his knockdown shot as an NBA player, JJ Redick recently revealed on his podcast how he nearly ended up an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics last season in a conversation with Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla.

He recalls how he had planned a trip to Boston and received a call from team president Brad Stevens about working with Mazzulla, who had just been named interim head coach of the team. The duo attempted to convince Redick to join the coaching staff during a round of golf and lunch.

Redick would ultimately pass on the opportunity given how little time he would have had to get ready for the season to come but still has an interest in making the leap to the other side of the clipboard.

What are the best NBA teams of the last five years that did not win a title?

More importantly to most of you reading this, which among them were versions of the Boston Celtics?

What are the best NBA teams of the last five years that did not win an NBA championship? More importantly to most of you reading this, which among them were versions of the Boston Celtics? According to Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey, three of the last ten such teams happened to be an iteration of the storied ball club.

To evaluate these ball clubs in terms of their contend-ability with regards to what we might otherwise expect from such a team, the B/R analyst uses four key metrics: Simple Rating System (SRS), Relative Offensive Rating (Rel ORtg), Relative Defensive Rating (Rel DRtg), and Win Percentage (W%). These metrics help rank and sort the teams over the last five seasons.

Let’s take a look at where each of the trio of Celtics squads made the final cut.
