Complete list of backup centers Sixers have employed behind Joel Embiid

Here is a complete list of the backup centers the Philadelphia 76ers have employed behind star big man Joel Embiid.

The Philadelphia 76ers have been one of the top teams in the East since Joel Embiid stepped onto the floor for them in the 2016-17 season. The big fella has been the transcendent star the franchise needed to regain relevancy in the league.

The backup center spot has been a bit of an adventure for the franchise. They have cycled through a lot of different options behind Embiid looking for the right combination on the floor. Some have been duds and others have been solid players.

In Embiid’s seven seasons with the Sixers, Philadelphia has employed a number of backup centers, and it appears as though there will be a new backup in the 2023-24 season, veteran Mo Bamba. It was Paul Reed in 2022-23, but it appears he could get a look at power forward under new coach Nick Nurse.

Here are all the backup centers during the Embiid era:

Every Boston Celtics jersey in team history worn by ONLY one player

This is every player in Celtics history who was the only player to wear their jersey number.

The Boston Celtics have more retired jerseys than any other team in the NBA does, and given that knowledge, it might surprise you that they have plenty of jerseys only worn by one player in the entire 75-year history of the team.

Of course, a few of them are among those retired jerseys, but quite a few of them are not. As we draw near to the end of the 2023 offseason series of every jersey ever worn by a Boston Celtics player in the regular season, we would of course be remiss if we skipped out on these loners.

Let’s take a look at those most unique of Celtics jerseys throughout the years.

On this day: Johnson, Jerebko signed; Lee trade; Paxson, Mickey born

On this day in 2015, the Boston Celtics signed Amir Johnson and Jonas Jerebko and traded for David Lee.

On this date in Boston Celtics history, the team signed big man Amir Johnson to a two-year, $24 million contract. The Los Angeles native had previously played for the Toronto Raptors for the previous six seasons before decamping to the Celtics, and the Detroit Pistons for four more before that after being drafted directly out of high school by that team 56th overall in the 2005 NBA draft.

Johnson was a key part of the franchise’s post-Banner 17 rebuild, anchoring the team’s interior as a veteran presence while averaging 6.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 0.9 blocks per game.

Johnson would leave the team in free agency to join the Philadelphia 76ers in the summer of 2017.

Seven former Boston Celtics on the move in 2005 redraft

The 2005 class features a healthy cohort of players who would go on to play for the Boston Celtics,

Hoops Hype’s dynamic NBA redraft duo of Frank Urbina and Raul Barrigon are back at their craft. This time they put the magnifying glass to the 2005 class that featured a healthy cohort of players who went on to play for the Boston Celtics, albeit a few only briefly.

With the 2023 NBA draft not far off now, the storied ball club’s front office is doing its best to assess talent in the incoming class of prospective players in the same sort of way Urbina and Barrigon have done with several such drafts, though of course with the invaluable benefit of hindsight.

Let’s take a look at which former Celtics landed where in this revisionist assessment.

On this day: 3 players lost to 1967 expansion draft; Amir Johnson born

On this day, ex-Boston Celtics big man Amir Johnson was born, and three players were taken from the team in the 1967 NBA expansion draft.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, the team would lose several players to the expansion draft held in 1963 to populate two new teams being added to the league.

Expansion drafts function similarly to the regular draft, except the team or teams joining the league can raid the rosters of existing teams for players save for a certain number of “protected” players each team can prevent from being drafted away to the expansion team or teams.

The new teams in question would be the San Diego Rockets and Seattle Supersonics, the former now relocated in Houston, Texas as the Houston Rockets since relocating to Texas in 1971, and the latter now the Oklahoma City Thunder since moving to that state in 2008. Boston would lose three players in total to the two expansion teams.

A list of the backup centers Sixers have employed behind Joel Embiid

Here is a list of the backup centers the Philadelphia 76ers have employed during the Joel Embiid era.

The Philadelphia 76ers have been one of the top teams in the East since Joel Embiid stepped onto the floor for them in the 2016-17 season. The big fella has been the transcendent star the franchise needed to regain relevancy in the league.

The biggest issue has been the backup center spot. The Sixers have not settled on one guy who can give positive, productive minutes behind Embiid so the big fella can rest.

In Embiid’s six seasons with the Sixers, Philadelphia has employed a number of backup centers, and it appears as though there will be a new backup in the 2022-23 season, young Paul Reed.

NBA G League: The complete Ignite roster for 2021-22 season

The NBA G League announced that six veteran players will join the Ignite to provide leadership and guidance to their young prospects.

On Thursday, the NBA G League announced that six veteran players will join the Ignite to help provide leadership and guidance to their young prospects, completing their roster for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

The Ignite will make their season debut on Nov. 5 against the South Bay Lakers as part of their 14-game Showcase Cup schedule, which is part of the new innovative format for the season. They will also play preseason exhibition games on Oct. 29 and Oct. 31.

The stated goal of the Ignite is to provide development opportunities for those prospects looking to play professionally. The team will be coached by Jason Hart after Brian Shaw led the group during their inaugural season earlier this year.

With the Ignite set to begin their second season, Rookie Wire took a look at their final roster, which features a blend of up-and-coming prospects and several experienced veterans.

The NBA G League on Thursday announced the additions of veteran players Amir Johnson, Bobby Brown, Reggie Hearn, Brandon Ashley and Cody Demps to the Ignite roster.

The five veterans bring years of valuable playing experience, both in the NBA and other professional leagues around the world, that will aid in the development of the six elite prospects highlighting the inaugural G League Ignite roster.

Johnson brings the most experience to the Ignite after 14 years in the NBA across four stops. He did not play in the NBA last season and last played with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2018-19 season, averaging 3.9 points in 51 games played.

The addition of Hearn was previously reported last month as he was the first veteran to agree to join the Ignite. Hearn, who went undrafted out of Northwestern in 2013, averaged 12.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 44 games played last season with the South Bay Lakers.

The NBA G League Ignite, which was informally dubbed the Select Team, features several top high school prospects such as Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd, Jonathan Kuminga and several others. The team is coached by Brian Shaw and has been training in Walnut Creek, California.

In addition to Green, Todd and Kuminga, prospects Daishen Nix, Kai Sotto and Princepal Singh, a 6-foot-10 forward from India, also joined the program, which was launched in April to serve as an alternative path for elite prospects wanting to play professionally.

Ignite, which is unaffiliated with any existing NBA G League franchise or NBA team, will participate in exhibition games against other NBA G League teams and international clubs and will play 10-12 games that won’t count against the standings.

The prospects on Ignite will be draft-eligible in the 2021 NBA draft.
