Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy was electric in K.C.’s Super Bowl LIX loss to Eagles

#Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy was a top performer in Kansas City’s loss to the Philadelphia #Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

The Kansas City Chiefs were throttled by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, but the performance of rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy was a development that fans in Western Missouri can be pleased with.

Worthy was targeted eight times in the game, and caught all four of the passes thrown his way. By the end of Super Bowl LIX, Worthy gained 157 yards and scored two touchdowns, which helped make Kansas City’s loss look a bit less embarrassing on paper.

Though it took some time for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes to find Worthy downfield, the rookie made the most of every opportunity he was given.

Check out these videos of Worthy’s outstanding touchdown receptions:

Worthy was the Chiefs’ first-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft, and managed to exceed the sky-high expectations placed on him when he joined the then-defending Super Bowl champions.

Though Kansas City’s loss will sting for the foreseeable future, Worthy’s incredible performance in Super Bowl LIX will forever be a part of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl history.

Final score: Eagles defeat Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX

The Philadelphia #Eagles defeated the Kansas City #Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX.

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025.

The game’s 40-22 final score wasn’t totally indicative of just how dominant Philadelphia was on both sides of the ball throughout the Super Bowl matchup.

If not for three late touchdown passes by Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Eagles would have shut out Kansas City in one of the most lopsided Super Bowl contests in recent memory.

Mahomes threw two game-changing interceptions in the first half of the game that helped Philadelphia get out to a massive lead before halftime.

Though the Chiefs had become experts at grinding out comeback wins throughout their 2024 campaign, Kansas City was completely outmatched at every turn in Super Bowl LIX.

Despite the Chiefs’ generally poor performance in the championship game, there were still a few bright spots that Kansas City’s fans can take solace in as the team heads into the offseason.

Rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy caught all eight of the passes that were thrown his way and scored two touchdowns while picking up 157 yards.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes finds WR Xavier Worthy for second Super Bowl TD

#Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy scored an incredible touchdown in the fourth quarter of Kansas City’s loss to the #Eagles in Super Bowl LIX

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense finally got into gear in the fourth quarter of their blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

Though star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was unable to move Kansas City’s offense downfield in the game’s first three quarters, he was able to find rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy in the end zone late in the game’s final frame.

The catch marked Worthy’s second touchdown reception of the game, which was one of the only bright spots in an otherwise embarrassing loss for the Chiefs.

Take a look at this video of Worthy’s outstanding touchdown catch:

This touchdown may have helped Kansas City’s comeback effort if it had been scored earlier in Sunday’s game, but ultimately it didn’t make any difference for the Chiefs, who would go on to lose Super Bowl LIX 40-22.

Stay tuned to see what Kansas City’s players and coaches have to say about the rookie’s performance after the game.

Dominant defense, Jalen Hurts lifts Eagles to a 40-22 win over Chiefs in Super Bowl 59

Dominant defense, Jalen Hurts lifts Eagles to a 40-22 win over Chiefs in Super Bowl 59

In what can only be described as a beatdown, the Eagles exacted revenge on the Chiefs, winning Super Bowl LIX in dominant fashion, 40-22.

Vic Fangio’s No. 1 ranked defense held Kansas City to 275 yards of total offense and 3-11 on third downs, with Patrick Mahomes getting sacked six times on the night. Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts was 17 of 22 passing for 221 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and a 119.7 passer rating.

Kansas City scored 16 fourth-quarter points, but it was too late as the Eagles jumped out to a 34-6 lead in the third quarter and bullied the Chiefs throughout the contest. In what can only be described as a team win, the Eagles won despite Saquon Barkley getting held to 57 yards on 25 carries.

Jalen Hurts led the Eagles with a Super Bowl record of 11 carries for 72 yards and one rushing touchdown.

With Barkley shut down, DeVonta Smith had four catches for 69 yards (17.3 avg) and one touchdown.  A.J. Brown had three catches for 43 yards and a touchdown.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes finds WR Xavier Worthy for TD in Super Bowl LIX

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes threw a touchdown pass to rookie WR Xavier Worthy in Kansas City’s Super Bowl LIX matchup against the #Eagles.

Kansas City Chiefs fans had to wait three quarters to see their favorite team score points against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

Though the Chiefs have tried their best to gain any sort of momentum against the Eagles’ outstanding defense, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes wasn’t able to get in rhythm early in the game.

In the third quarter, Mahomes finally managed to break through and found rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy for a touchdown that cut Kansas City’s deficit to 28 points.

Check out this video of Mahomes’ connection with Worthy, which was posted to the Chiefs’ official Twitter account during Super Bowl LIX:

Though it seems like it would be impossible for Kansas City to make a 28-point comeback in the fourth quarter, the Chiefs can never be counted out with Mahomes under center.

Stay tuned to see if Mahomes can make magic happen in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LIX.

Cowboys shipped Super Bowl starting WR, different OT in ESPN’s 2024 redraft

In a 2024 NFL draft do-over, Dallas lands an exciting playmaker from in state and then circles back around on OT.

The 2024 NFL season comes to a close on Sunday evening, once the final whistle is blown on Super Bowl LIX. For the Dallas Cowboys, who missed the playoffs for the first time in four years, it was a disappointing campaign to say the least. Part of the issue with the Cowboys is that they haven’t gotten the kinds of contributions from their recent draft classes that they are used to.

Both the 2023 and 2024 classes failed to contribute impact players, with the club not getting much of any traction with either classes first or second-round picks. DT Mazi Smith is on the precipice of the club designating him as a bust after two years and redrafting the position, and LT Tyler Guyton was oft-injured and oft-benched in his rookie season. TE Luke Schoonmaker hasn’t done much and DE Marshawn Kneeland missed a chunk of time with a knee injury. But what if things went a different way?

ESPN conducted a 2024 redraft recently, going through 64 picks and giving teams chances at do-overs based on the performance of the rookie class. Instead of picking Guyton in a first-round trade down, Dallas stayed put and took an explosive rookie, and then circled back on the OT position instead of drafting Kneeland.

24. Dallas Cowboys

Original pick: Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama (DET traded up)
New pick: Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas

I contemplated Olu Fashanu and Troy Fautanu at this spot to keep with the offensive line theme, but I kept coming back to the lack of explosive plays on offense. With CeeDee Lamb and Worthy, the Dak Prescott-led offense could get back to the playmaking it had in 2023, even if Worthy might not fit the size profile the Cowboys like in receivers. Worth had 59 catches for 638 yards and 9 total touchdowns with the Chiefs. — Todd Archer

Worthy, the University of Texas product, is of course a starting wideout for the Super Bowl participating Kansas City Chiefs. He’s started 13 of 17 games in the regular season and his dazzling speed would’ve been exactly what Dallas wanted to get out of Brandin Cooks and Kavontae Turpin.

56. Dallas Cowboys

Original pick: Marshawn Kneeland, EDGE, Western Michigan
New pick: Kingsley Suamataia, OT, BYU

The Cowboys had Suamataia in for a visit before the draft, and he was in the mix when they took Tyler Guyton in the first round. Guyton would have been the pick had he lasted to this spot. Suamataia started the first two games at left tackle for the Chiefs, but he did not answer their issues. Still, the potential remains as he’s just 22 years old. — Todd Archer

Look: Bradley Cooper narrates Eagles hype video for Super Bowl LIX matchup vs. Chiefs

The Philadelphia Eagles released this hype video narrated by actor Bradley Cooper ahead of Sunday’s #SuperBowl matchup vs. the Kansas City Chiefs

The countdown has begun, and the Eagles and Chiefs are a little over 28 hours away from kickoff at Caesars Superdome on Sunday night.

Bradley Cooper is one of the biggest Eagles fans, so it makes sense that the famed actor would contribute to the Super Bowl LIX hype video after doing the same two years ago

Cooper narrates the video that focuses on winning “coming down to this moment,” which is the biggest game of Jalen Hurts’s career.

Philadelphia earned its second Super Bowl appearance in three seasons after posting a franchise-record-tying 14-3 record and a postseason run that featured three straight victories at home, including a 55-23 win against Washington in the NFC Championship Game (most points scored in a conference championship game in NFL history).

For only the second time, two Black quarterbacks will face off on the NFL’s biggest stage. Hurts and Mahomes were the first two in Super Bowl 57. Since 2022, Jalen Hurts has been 42-12 (including the playoffs) as a starting quarterback, just behind Patrick Mahomes (48-10).

C.J. Gardner-Johnson was hilarious while mic’d up at Super Bowl LIX Opening Night

Philadelphia Eagles star safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was hilarious while mic’d up at Super Bowl LIX Opening Night

C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s departure is the mistake that Howie Roseman corrected. The boisterous defensive back will have the most pivotal role as we approach Super Bowl LIX, which is a little over 52 hours away.

Gardner-Johnson returned to Philadelphia after one year in Detroit. He re-energized the Eagles’ defense and stabilized Vic Fangio’s backend. The former Florida Gators defensive back is also a rapper and content creator in his off-time.

With Super Bowl opening night being the a ‘Movie’, it was only right that a mic’d up Gardner-Johnson got to direct the show.

Gardner-Johnson tied for the 3rd-most interceptions (career-high-tying 6) in the league, trailing only Kerby Joseph (9) and Xavier McKinney (8). According to PFF, he is 3rd among NFL safeties with nine forced incompletions, behind Brian Branch (12) and Ar’Darius Washington (10).

Chiefs HC Andy Reid discusses DeAndre Hopkins’ role before Super Bowl LIX: ‘Senior leadership’

Kansas City #Chiefs head coach Andy Reid discusses DeAndre Hopkins’ role before Super Bowl LIX: ‘Senior leadership’ | @EdEastonJr

The mid-season trade by the Kansas City Chiefs to acquire former All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has paid off more than what he’s done statistically. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid highlighted Hopkins’ contributions as a leader during Wednesday’s press conference.

“I knew we were getting a good player to play against him quite a bit, but I didn’t know the leadership part,” said Reid. “He’s been tremendous that way. He hasn’t complained that we’re spreading the ball around or utilizing other guys along with him. He’s willing to share in that way.”

Since joining the Chiefs, Hopkins hasn’t received his typical number of targets per game because of the weapons alongside him in the offense. Instead, he has become a mentor to rookie Xavier Worthy, who has blossomed over the second half of the year under the multiple-time Pro Bowler’s guidance.

“So that whole senior leadership part that he’s brought, I really appreciated,” said Reid. “He’s a unique route runner. He knows how to set things up and shared that with some of the guys. I appreciate that part, too.”

Reid could be setting Hopkins up for more targets in the Super Bowl. Historically, when given an extra week to prepare, Reid has found new ways to involve offensive players in the game plan.
