Every NFL draft pick coached by James Franklin

Zac Stacy, Jordan Matthews, Saquon Barkley, Micah Parsons, and every other NFL draft pick who played for James Franklin.

[autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] got his first head coaching opportunity with Vanderbilt after the 2010 season despite previously being the head coach-in-waiting at Maryland. The Commodores are not necessarily known for producing a tremendous amount of NFL talent, but Vanderbilt managed to send a few players off to the next level by way of the NFL draft under the guidance of Franklin, who has experience as an assistant coach in the NFL.

In the years Franklin was the head coach at Vanderbilt, from 2011 through 2013, Vanderbilt had seven players drafted. And a few more who would go on to be drafted later on out of Vanderbilt were brought into the program initially by Franklin and his staff. The seven players drafted from Vanderbilt from Franklin’s three seasons with the program is the most draft picks from Vanderbilt in a three-year span in school history since 1957-1969 saw 11 players selected by NFL teams, in the days of a draft lasting at least 20 rounds.

Since arriving at Penn State in 2014, Franklin has seen a growing number of his players go on to be drafted by NFL franchises, including an offensive rookie of the year in running back [autotag]Saquon Barkley[/autotag] in 2018 and a defensive rookie of the year in linebacker [autotag]Micah Parsons[/autotag] in 2021.

Here is a look at every player drafted by an NFL team that had James Franklin as a head coach in their last game before being drafted, beginning with Franklin’s time at Vanderbilt.

And once you are done checking out this list, here is a list of every Penn State player drafted in the first round of the NFL draft since Penn State joined the Big Ten.

SEC baseball power rankings after Week 6: How did chaotic weekend impact league pecking order?

Last weekend was probably the wildest of SEC baseball so far. We had a few surprises as well as some teams flexing their muscles.

Last weekend was probably the wildest for SEC baseball so far this season. We had a few surprises as well as some teams flexing their muscles.

As far as surprises go, how about Georgia sweeping Arkansas and Tennessee sweeping Vanderbilt? UGA has flipped the script of their whole season lately as they took a series against Kentucky a couple of weeks ago and now have swept a good Razorbacks team.

The Volunteers looked to have their back against the wall after getting swept by the Hogs and then losing their midweek game to Tennessee Tech. They came out swinging against the Commodores, though, as they outscored Vandy 31-9 in three games.

LSU flexed its muscles as it got its first conference sweep of the season, and South Carolina proved it is nearly unbeatable at home as it swept the Florida Gators.

Here’s how everything stands in our power ranking of league teams after Week 6.

College baseball’s updated USA TODAY Sports coaches poll as of Apr. 24

The SEC claims five of the top six spots in this week’s coaches poll.

Just about a month of baseball is left in the 2023 regular season at the collegiate level. The conference tournaments will begin in late May as we start to get a feel for what the postseason field will look like.

The No. 1 ranked [autotag]LSU Tigers[/autotag] are coming off a sweep of Ole Miss as they finished the week at 32-7 and 12-5 in SEC play. The [autotag]Tennessee Volunteers[/autotag] also are coming off a sweep after they blasted [autotag]Vanderbilt Commodores[/autotag] pitching over the weekend. It wasn’t a great weekend for the [autotag]Florida Gators[/autotag], who were swept by the [autotag]South Carolina Gamecocks[/autotag].

The biggest riser in this week’s poll is the [autotag]Duke Blue Devils[/autotag], who jumped 15 spots. They are winners of five straight, including a sweep of No. 19 Louisville, who fell nine spots this week. The Cardinals were the big loser of the weekend for teams still ranked.

The [autotag]Texas Longhorns[/autotag] were the highest ranked team to fall completely out of the top 25 at No. 14 last week. Texas was swept by the [autotag]Oklahoma Sooners[/autotag] over the weekend. OU received no votes despite taking all three games against a top 15 opponent.

SEC baseball power rankings after Week 5

Here’s how things look after a great weekend of SEC baseball (and rough midweek showing for several teams).

South Carolina and Vanderbilt put on a show last weekend in Nashville as they traded blows for three straight games before the Commodores finally came out on top.

LSU survived its series as Kentucky proved that it is here to stay, Georgia gave Florida a scare, Alabama won the Iron Bowl of baseball, and Mississippi State took the series from Ole Miss in a good weekend of SEC baseball.

That’s the good news. The bad news? LSU, Vanderbilt and Tennessee all put on a terrible showing Tuesday night as they all lost their midweek games. LSU lost to Louisiana, Vandy lost to Indiana State and the Vols lost to Tennessee Tech.

Here are our SEC power rankings after Week 5 of conference play.

Vanderbilt, Anderson and Emory remain in top spots in Bushnell/Golfweek men’s college golf coaches polls for April 14

Here’s a look at the top teams in the April 14th rankings.

After a win in the Mason Rudolph Championship, Vanderbilt continues as the top-ranked team in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I men’s college golf coaches poll for April 14. The Commodores received 19 first-place votes and 523 points in the process.

North Carolina (one first-place vote), Texas Tech, Arizona State and Illinois (one first-place vote) rounded out the top five, while Florida State, Pepperdine, Auburn, Stanford and Florida completed the top 10.

In Division II, Anderson remains the top-ranked team. Similar in Division III, Emory is holding on to the top spot. Keiser passed Lindsey Wilson to retake No. 1 in the NAIA poll. New Mexico JC and South Maintain are on top in the NJCAA polls.

SEC baseball power rankings after 4 weeks of conference play

This weekend in the SEC was a wild one, to say the least.

This weekend in the SEC was a wild one, to say the least. Georgia won a series against Kentucky, Mississippi State beat Alabama on the road, and South Carolina and LSU tied.

Add to that the fact that Vanderbilt lost its first conference game of the season against Missouri while Texas A&M beat Auburn on the road, and you have yourself a wild weekend.

Mother Nature was the real winner of the series between LSU and South Carolina. The teams were only able to play two games and thanks to the heroics of [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag], LSU was able to go home 1-1 instead of 0-2.

Here’s how the SEC teams stack up in this week’s power rankings.

Jerry Stackhouse called reports about taking the Pistons’ head coach job ‘beguilement in the highest form’

There’s no better way to confirm you want to stay at Vanderbilt than talking like a 19th-century robber baron.

Vanderbilt Commodores head coach Jerry Stackhouse has momentum. After a brutal start to his 2022-23 campaign, his team finished the year on an absolute heater. Vandy ended the pre-NIT season with a 10-2 run that included wins over Tennessee, Mississippi State and Kentucky (twice).

That wasn’t enough to propel the Dores to the NCAA Tournament, but it did boost Stackhouse’s stock in the coaching world. After pushing an undermanned team to new heights and showcasing a knack for play design and clutch moments, he’s once again emerged as a coaching candidate at the highest levels of the sport.

That includes his former NBA home, the Detroit Pistons. Earlier this week, reports began to spread that Stackhouse could leave Tennessee for Michigan and jump to the pros. On Thursday, he took to Twitter to shut those rumors down.

It wasn’t enough to just throw the clown emoji at them; Stack went full Cornelius Vanderbilt and hit them with “beguilement in the highest form.” That is prime robber baron stuff. That is a clause that begins a threat that ends with your land being taken and your oil derricks seized. 247Sports is one poorly sourced report away from having the full wrath of the Pinkertons brought down upon them.

The response also gave Stackhouse the chance to throw a little shade at the vocal contingent of Vanderbilt that had been calling for his job before 2023’s furious finish. The two-time NBA All-Star is active on Twitter and had gained a reputation among Commodore faithful for being quick to block users for lobbing even justified criticism at the team. He’s lately unblocked several of those accounts, so it’s unclear just who falls into that 5.8 percent — though you can probably take a guess looking at the coach’s replies under any given Tweet.

If Stackhouse were considering a jump to the NBA, 2023 is a strong opportunity. Detroit’s job vacancy would give him the chance to return to a franchise where he played five seasons and had the most productive stretch of his pro career. His current roster at Vandy is suffering from plenty of turnover after its NIT quarterfinal run. All-SEC center Liam Robbins has exhausted his eligibility, point guard Tyrin Lawrence has entered the NBA Draft (though he’s kept his NCAA eligibility intact and may return) and six players, including four who played at least 18 minutes per game in 2023-23, have entered the transfer portal.

But Stackhouse appears locked in for a fifth year at the helm. Vanderbilt has improved its record every season since his 2019 debut. Doing so again in 2023-24 would be the biggest achievement of his coaching career to date and likely cement the program’s first NCAA Tournament invitation since 2017. That’s what he’s focused on at the moment; anything else is just “beguilement.”

Vanderbilt basketball transfer Jordan Wright commits to LSU

Wright started 17 of 34 games for the Commodores, finishing third on the team in scoring and second in assists and rebounds.

After seeing several players depart through the transfer portal following a losing season, LSU coach [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag] has landed his first transfer commitment this offseason.

On Wednesday, Vanderbilt transfer [autotag]Jordan Wright[/autotag] pledged to LSU. The 6-foot-6 wing player is a native of Baton Rouge who attended The Dunham School, and now he’ll come home to bring some big-time SEC experience to the roster.

As a senior with the Commodores in 2022-23, he played in 34 games with 17 starts. He averaged 10.6 points per game (third on the team) and 5.1 rebounds while totaling 71 assists, both of which were second on the team.

Wright was also the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2022.

After going just 2-16 in SEC play this season and losing 14 games in a row at one point, the Tigers need all the help they can get entering the second season under McMahon.

SEC baseball power rankings after Week 3 of SEC play

LSU further cemented its place as the No. 1 team in the country with its series win over Tennessee last weekend.

LSU further cemented its place as the No. 1 team in the country with its series win over Tennessee last weekend. [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] showed up to play as the Tigers took a huge series in the box.

Vanderbilt has shown that it is the hottest team in the SEC with their leading 9-0 conference record so far. None of their games have been close either.

Kentucky and South Carolina have been impressive so far with three conference series wins so far. We will see how long that streak will last as the Gamecocks take on No. 1 LSU this weekend in Columbia and Kentucky travels to Baton Rouge next week.

Here’s how our power rankings look after the weekend.

How do the Sooners stack up with the SEC in 2024 recruiting after first commitment?

After receiving their first commitment of the 2024 cycle, how do the Sooners compare to their future SEC foes in 247Sports recruiting rankings?

The Oklahoma Sooners 2024 recruiting class will be the first of Oklahoma’s tenure in the SEC. With the Sooners and the Texas Longhorns making the move in 2024, the recruiting classes that the Red River Rivals are building for 2024 “just means more.”

While the 2022 and the 2023 classes will be the foundation of Oklahoma’s move to the SEC, the 2024 class will be marked as the Sooners’ first recruiting class of the SEC era. And much like last spring, when the Sooners appeared to be struggling on the recruiting trail (to some), Oklahoma looks to be on the verge of seeing the fruits of their labors.

That first fruit came in the form of a commitment from four-star cornerback Jeremiah Newcombe out of Arizona. The quick-twitch corner is a playmaker who plays fast on the field and brings an edge to the outside cornerback position.

With the Sooners’ first commitment in the cycle, where does that put them amongst their future SEC foes? Here’s how the Oklahoma Sooners compare to the SEC in the 247Sports composite team rankings.

Note: Blue chip prospects refers to the number of four and five-star players combined for a given recruiting class.
