The Chiefs’ defense led the charge against Cleveland, tallying a total of six turnovers—two fumble recoveries and four interceptions.

Though the unit’s dominance was undoubtedly a group effort, star cornerback Trent McDuffie’s performance caught the attention of the experts at Pro Football Focus after the game.

McDuffie snagged the first interception of his career against the Browns and earned the highest PFF grade among all of Kansas City’s players in the Chiefs’ 21-7 win:

The former Washington Husky has been among the best defensive backs in the NFL this season and will be a crucial part of Kansas City’s bid to win the AFC’s No. 1 seed in the coming weeks.

Chiefs fans can expect another stellar showing from McDuffie when Kansas City heads back to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Houston Texans in Week 16.

Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie reflects on first career interception: ‘A lot of emotions’

Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie had plenty to smile about after the Week 15 victory over the Cleveland Browns. After almost two full seasons, McDuffie collected his first career interception to help seal the latest win.

“Man, it has truly been a blessing. Coming into this week, we knew we had a good shot at getting some turnovers, and it truly was the right place, right time,” said McDuffie during his postgame press conference. “I was in man-to-man, and the funny thing is, for whatever reason, I somehow glanced up at the jumbotron because of a scramble drill. I saw him launch it, and I knew I had to turn around and catch the ball.”

Since the Chiefs drafted him in 2022, McDuffie has been praised for his fantastic coverage. The only lingering knock on him is not having an NFL interception on his resume. He didn’t play it down when describing the moment after the game.

“Special. I mean there is a lot of emotions. One, we did it; I mean, it took me two and a half years to get one. Two, the time of when I did it.” said McDuffie. “They were driving up the field and they were trying to get back into the game. They were putting together pretty good drives. So being able to get that pick and kind of stop that momentum, for me, is huge.”

The intercepted ball will have a valued spot in the home of the former Washington Huskies standout.

“I mean, I have to do something with it. I saw it was grabbed after for me, but I have not seen it yet,” said McDuffie. “Once I get that football, it will be with me all day, and I will be sleeping with it tonight.”

Final score: Chiefs defeat Browns 21-7 in Week 15

The Kansas City #Chiefs defeated the Cleveland #Browns 21-7 in Week 15.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Cleveland Browns 21-7 in Week 15 to advance their regular season record to 13-1.

Though Kansas City didn’t blow out the Browns in the game, the Chiefs never struggled to keep momentum on their side.

Kansas City’s defense came away with six turnovers in the matchup, and Patrick Mahomes managed to throw two touchdown passes without being intercepted.

It may not have been the Chiefs’ most outstanding performance on the scoreboard, but Kansas City’s players seemed to have shown up at Huntington Bank Field with something to prove.

Rising defensive end George Karlaftis tallied two sacks, and star cornerback Trent McDuffie recorded the first interception of his young career.

While Cleveland was outmatched in almost every phase of the game, reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett made his presence felt, even after a first-half injury scare.

The Chiefs are set to face the Houston Texans in Week 16 action on December 21.

Chiefs vs. Browns: Trent McDuffie intercepts Jameis Winston

#Chiefs DB Trent McDuffie intercepted #Browns QB Jameis Winston during Kansas City’s Week 15 showdown against Cleveland on Sunday.

The Kansas City Chiefs are in full control of their Week 15 matchup against the Cleveland Browns through three quarters.

Though Cleveland has done its best to keep the score close, costly interceptions thrown by Browns quarterback Jameis Winston have kept momentum on Kansas City’s side throughout the game.

Early in the fourth quarter, Winston was intercepted by Chiefs defensive back Trent McDuffie, marking Kansas City’s fifth takeaway in the late-season showdown.

The Chiefs haven’t been able to force many turnovers this season, but have had Winston’s number all day. The former Heisman Trophy winner has thrown three interceptions and failed to score a passing touchdown.

Check out this video of McDuffie’s outstanding pick, which was posted to Twitter by the Chiefs’ official account:

With some luck, McDuffie might be able to record another interception against Cleveland if Winston continues throwing the ball when the Browns regain possession in the fourth quarter.

PFF: Trent McDuffie was Chiefs’ highest-graded player in Week 14

Star DB Trent McDuffie was the #Chiefs’ highest-graded player in Kansas City’s Week 14 win over the Los Angeles #Chargers.

The Kansas City Chiefs officially clinched the AFC West in Week 14 with a win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Though it was Patrick Mahomes who led the Chiefs’ offense on a heroic final drive that led to a walk-off field goal in the fourth quarter, Kansas City’s defense deserves most of the credit for the defending Super Bowl champions’ latest victory.

After losing cornerback Jaylen Watson earlier this season, the Chiefs’ young secondary, led by defensive back Trent McDuffie, has stepped up to keep Kansas City’s hopes for a championship three-peat alive.

The experts at Pro Football Focus took notice of McDuffie’s efforts against Los Angeles, and made him the Chiefs’ highest-graded player in Kansas City’s win over the Chargers on Sunday Night Football.

Fans can expect McDuffie to continue locking down opposing wide receivers in Week 15 when the Chiefs travel to face the Cleveland Browns at Huntington Bank Field on December 15.

Chiefs All-Pro reveals gameplan vs. Chargers QB Justin Herbert

Kansas City #Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie reveals gameplan vs.Los Angeles #Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert | @EdEastonJr

The Los Angeles Chargers enter Arrowhead Stadium attempting to hold off the Kansas City Chiefs’ crowning as AFC West division champions this season. Trent McDuffie’s defense is extra motivated for this Sunday’s game, trying to seal another division title, knowing that the Chargers will be led by their star quarterback, Justin Herbert.

“Yeah. I mean, we know he’s a big arm. You know, he’s definitely somebody (who) can make all the throws from weak side hash all the way out to the field on comebacks, things like that. But also, another thing he’s been starting to do is run the ball.” said McDuffie. “That’s something that watching this film, you kind of see and sense. When things aren’t there, he tucks and does a really good job on his feet, and in Week four, I think, he had an ankle injury that was kind of messed up, so he wasn’t running that much, and that kind of limited him.”

Herbert battled early-season injuries while leading the Chargers to an 8-4 record and tossing 13 touchdown passes with only one interception. He has shown flashes of scramble ability, averaging 4.2 yards per carry through 13 weeks.

“So coming into this week, there’s definitely more of a focus that, yeah, he can’t leave the pocket,” said McDuffie. “Yeah, we got to contain him, keep him in the pocket. We’ve got to get enough to know what kind of arm he is and what kind of quarterback he is. So going out there, like I said, playing our defense and making plays on the ball.”

McDuffie has continued to play with all-pro form this season, and he’s seen multiple cornerbacks opposite him on the field. The defense is still addressing Jaylen Watson’s absence due to injury.

Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie discusses support from teammates: ‘We’ve got your back’

Kansas City #Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie discusses support from teammates: ‘We’ve got your back’ | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs’ overtime victory last Monday night over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers featured a rare bend moment from the defense. Baker Mayfield completed a game-tying touchdown pass in regulation to force the extra session and a moment of regret from an All-Pro defensive back.

Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie revealed to reporters on Wednesday his frustrations and the support he received from teammates after the Buccaneers scored the tying touchdown on his watch.

“B-Cook (Bryan Cook), J-Reid (Justin Reid) (and) Chamarri (Conner) came over there while I was ticked off that I allowed the score that (allowed) them tie the game,” said McDuffie. “They’re just like, ‘Look, bro, it’s going into overtime. We’ve still got more games. Don’t worry about it. We’ve got your back; we know what you can do.”

McDuffie and the defense had an impressive streak of ending games on their end this season but were bailed out for once in overtime as the offense scored a touchdown on their initial possession.

“For me, that was just a way to kind of lock back in, and also just be like, ‘Man, that’s special, to be in a locker room where guys, you give up a big play in the game, said McDuffie. “I think that kind of speaks volumes as to the character of what we have in here.”

The strong bond between the defense and the team has contributed enormously to the team’s undefeated start to the season.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL’s only undefeated team after eight weeks of the regular season, and while the defending Super Bowl champions are still working out the kinks in their offense, Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive unit has been rock-solid.

Star cornerback Trent McDuffie has been a key part of Spagnuolo’s secondary since joining the Chiefs as a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft and put on a show against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8.

In Kansas City’s latest win, McDuffie tallied four combined tackles and a quarterback hit and helped hold Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew to just 209 passing yards.

Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo praises rookie defensive back: ‘He’s earned playing time’

Kansas City #Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo praises rookie Chris Roland-Wallace: ‘He’s earned playing time’ | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo addressed the media on Thursday, discussing the emergence of rookie defensive back Chris Roland-Wallace after his impressive performance against the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday.

“Listen, C-Ro (Chris Roland-Wallace) is one of those guys that – he came here as a free agent,” said Spagnuolo. “He earned everything he’s gotten right now. He made the team, made the roster, made the 53. He’s earned playing time. I don’t know if you know – (Assistant Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator) Dave (Toub) and I talked every week about trying to get him in there in games. We got him in there last week.”

Roland-Wallace is an undrafted free agent who made the team and took advantage of his opportunity in Week 7. The rookie collected his first interception, much to the delight of his teammates and Spagnuolo.

“I think before Jaylen (Watson) got hurt, I can’t even remember, but we’ve been talking about it a lot,” said Spagnuolo. “I guess what I’m trying to say is he’s kind of earned the right to get some playing time, so you’ll see him in and out of there, and we’re going to have to use him as one guy goes down – other guys, our responsibilities go up so that’ll happen to Chris.”

The Chiefs’ defense is looking for a steady replacement for Jaylen Watson, who was at the cornerback position opposite Trent McDuffie.
