Dominant defense, Jalen Hurts lifts Eagles to a 40-22 win over Chiefs in Super Bowl 59

Dominant defense, Jalen Hurts lifts Eagles to a 40-22 win over Chiefs in Super Bowl 59

In what can only be described as a beatdown, the Eagles exacted revenge on the Chiefs, winning Super Bowl LIX in dominant fashion, 40-22.

Vic Fangio’s No. 1 ranked defense held Kansas City to 275 yards of total offense and 3-11 on third downs, with Patrick Mahomes getting sacked six times on the night. Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts was 17 of 22 passing for 221 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and a 119.7 passer rating.

Kansas City scored 16 fourth-quarter points, but it was too late as the Eagles jumped out to a 34-6 lead in the third quarter and bullied the Chiefs throughout the contest. In what can only be described as a team win, the Eagles won despite Saquon Barkley getting held to 57 yards on 25 carries.

Jalen Hurts led the Eagles with a Super Bowl record of 11 carries for 72 yards and one rushing touchdown.

With Barkley shut down, DeVonta Smith had four catches for 69 yards (17.3 avg) and one touchdown.  A.J. Brown had three catches for 43 yards and a touchdown.

Look: Bradley Cooper narrates Eagles hype video for Super Bowl LIX matchup vs. Chiefs

The Philadelphia Eagles released this hype video narrated by actor Bradley Cooper ahead of Sunday’s #SuperBowl matchup vs. the Kansas City Chiefs

The countdown has begun, and the Eagles and Chiefs are a little over 28 hours away from kickoff at Caesars Superdome on Sunday night.

Bradley Cooper is one of the biggest Eagles fans, so it makes sense that the famed actor would contribute to the Super Bowl LIX hype video after doing the same two years ago

Cooper narrates the video that focuses on winning “coming down to this moment,” which is the biggest game of Jalen Hurts’s career.

Philadelphia earned its second Super Bowl appearance in three seasons after posting a franchise-record-tying 14-3 record and a postseason run that featured three straight victories at home, including a 55-23 win against Washington in the NFC Championship Game (most points scored in a conference championship game in NFL history).

For only the second time, two Black quarterbacks will face off on the NFL’s biggest stage. Hurts and Mahomes were the first two in Super Bowl 57. Since 2022, Jalen Hurts has been 42-12 (including the playoffs) as a starting quarterback, just behind Patrick Mahomes (48-10).

C.J. Gardner-Johnson was hilarious while mic’d up at Super Bowl LIX Opening Night

Philadelphia Eagles star safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was hilarious while mic’d up at Super Bowl LIX Opening Night

C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s departure is the mistake that Howie Roseman corrected. The boisterous defensive back will have the most pivotal role as we approach Super Bowl LIX, which is a little over 52 hours away.

Gardner-Johnson returned to Philadelphia after one year in Detroit. He re-energized the Eagles’ defense and stabilized Vic Fangio’s backend. The former Florida Gators defensive back is also a rapper and content creator in his off-time.

With Super Bowl opening night being the a ‘Movie’, it was only right that a mic’d up Gardner-Johnson got to direct the show.

Gardner-Johnson tied for the 3rd-most interceptions (career-high-tying 6) in the league, trailing only Kerby Joseph (9) and Xavier McKinney (8). According to PFF, he is 3rd among NFL safeties with nine forced incompletions, behind Brian Branch (12) and Ar’Darius Washington (10).

Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie describes technique against Eagles receivers: ‘I’m on the outside this time’

Kansas City #Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie describes technique against Philadelphia #Eagles receivers: ‘I’m on the outside this time’ | @EdEastonJr

During his Wednesday press conference, Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie opened up about his matchups with two Philadelphia Eagles offensive weapons.

“Honestly, really just looking at how they were attacking us, seeing just the things that I can improve upon as far as technique-wise,” said McDuffie. “I’m on the outside this time, so just watching more tape on A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.”

The Eagles duo of Brown and Smith led the team in receiving, and they are elite playmakers on the outside. McDuffie has carried over his All-Pro play to being the lead cornerback on defense, moving from the inside as a slot corner last season.

“I say it’s one of the games where it’s just a man-on-man; it’s who, at the end of the day, is going to do their best technique-wise and who’s going to make the most plays? We love these challenges,” said McDuffie. “We love being in these moments when you get to go against two top receivers really in the league, and I know at the backend we’re excited to go out there and compete.”

Kansas City notably defeated Philadelphia in Super Bowl LVII but was beaten last season at Arrowhead Stadium. Sunday’s matchup could depend on the execution of the secondary and the many schemes Steve Spagnuolo devised.

Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie explains mindset during blitz calls: ‘I have the biggest smile’

Kansas City #Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie explains mindset during blitz calls: ‘I have the biggest smile’ | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC Championship last Sunday, in large part due to how they ended the game against the Buffalo Bills. Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive blitz calls were a considerable discussion from the night, as Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie explained during his press conference on Thursday.

“Whenever coach Spags (Steve Spagnuolo) calls a blitz, I’m usually pretty confident; especially late in the games, he does it very well where you never know what side the blitz is coming,” said McDuffie. “I heard the linemen actually check the protection the other way, and right after that, I was like, ‘We got them.'”

McDuffie, who was named to his second consecutive AP All-Pro team this season, was one of the blisters from the secondary that ended a promising Josh Allen drive.

“I always tell people, ‘I have the biggest smile on my face when I’m blitzing,'” said McDuffie. “That’s my dead giveaway if you line up against me. When you blitz, there are holes in the defense. Some guys may be put in awkward situations, so whenever (Spagnuolo) sends a blitz with the game on the line, you know he trusts the back end and trusts the people blitzing.”

The Chiefs hope to bring this confidence and success defensively in their Super Bowl LIX matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Kansas City Chiefs have relied on their outstanding secondary all season and will need the unit to play its best when they face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on February 9.

Star cornerback Trent McDuffie is among the most important contributors in Kansas City’s defensive backfield and has been a lynchpin in Steve Spagnuolo’s system since he joined the Chiefs as a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft.

McDuffie put together a remarkable effort in Kansas City’s win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday and was mic’d up for the playoff matchup.

Check out this video of McDuffie’s mic’d up performance against Buffalo, which was posted to the Chiefs’ official Twitter account:

If McDuffie can help Kansas City win its third consecutive Super Bowl title next month, he will have won rings in each of his first three seasons with the Chiefs to start his NFL career.

Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie discusses quick turnaround on matchups vs. Texans: ‘Retain the information’

Kansas City #Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie discusses quick turnaround on matchups vs.#Texans: ‘Retain the information’ | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs will face a familiar foe in the Divisional Round: the Houston Texans, who are returning to Arrowhead Stadium after playing them in Week 16. All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie shared his thoughts on the returning Texans, who are seeking revenge and an upset this Saturday.

“Being able to retain the information, we just played them, kind of know what they’re about, not the play style and stuff,” said McDuffie. “But it’s the playoffs, so when you come in the playoffs, teams gonna give you their best, give you some new plays, not just run the same things they were playing; last time we played them, it was the whole three games in 10 days.”

McDuffie secured his second interception during the Chiefs’ victory last month as they pressured Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud. He expects Houston to make immediate adjustments for their second matchup.

“So I’m sure they had to simplify a little bit. Coming into this, I mean, we know they’re gonna give us their best shot, especially when we beat them last time,” said McDuffie. “come with the chip on the shoulder coming off a good win last week. So we definitely got to be ready for them.”

McDuffie was named to his second consecutive All-Pro team last week as he leads the secondary.
