All-American Jaime Jaquez Jr. to attend Pacers’ first draft workout

Jaquez was a consensus second-team All-American after averaging 17.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals.

Former UCLA forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. will be among the prospects to attend a pre-draft workout with the Indiana Pacers on Friday, the team announced.

Jaquez was a consensus second-team All-American after averaging 17.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals on 48.1% shooting from the field. He was also recognized as the Pac-12 Player of the Year and was a semifinalist for the Naismith Player of the Year Trophy.

In addition to Jaquez, the Pacers also plan to host Kobe Brown (Missouri), Andre Jackson Jr. (UConn), Arthur Kaluma (Creighton), Liutauras Lelevicius (Zalgiris, Lithuania) and Grant Nelson (North Dakota State) on Friday.

It is their first pre-draft workout of the year.

The Pacers enter the draft lottery on Tuesday slotted seventh after finishing with a 35-47 record this season. They also have pick Nos. 26 and 29 in the first round and Nos. 50 and 55 in the second round.

The NBA draft will take place on June 22.

NBA draft combine 2023: A complete tracker of player invitations

Rookie Wire took a look at those prospects that have earned invitations to compete in the NBA draft combine and G League Elite Camp.

The NBA pre-draft process is in full swing as prospects work toward achieving the ultimate goal of hearing their names called by Commissioner Adam Silver on June 22.

Reports are beginning to surface of prospects receiving invitations to compete in the draft combine on May 15-21 in Chicago, Illinois. Each year, teams submit a list of players they would like to see invited, typically those with the highest odds of getting drafted.

The event features 5-on-5 games, strength and agility testing, shooting drills, measurements and other related on-court exercises. Prospects have the opportunity to improve their draft stock in a competitive environment against their peers.

Last year, 76 players were announced as participants in the event.

The G League Elite Camp will take place in Chicago on May 13-14 with players competing in front of NBA and G League scouts, coaches and front-office executives. The top performers will also be invited to perform in the draft combine.

The official list of participants for both events has yet to be unveiled.

Those underclassmen that filed as early entry candidates will also have the chance to interview with teams and gain feedback on their draft positioning. The information will be helpful in forming their decisions on staying in the draft or returning to school before the May 31 deadline.

Rookie Wire took a look at those prospects that have reportedly earned invitations to compete in the combine and G League Elite Camp. The list will be updated as more names emerge.

2023 NBA Mock Draft 3.0: Projections for every pick post-March Madness

Rookie Wire took a look at where the next draft class stands following the NCAA Tournament.

The NBA pre-draft process is in full swing as prospects around the world prepare to transition to the next level.

Teams around the league will begin hosting private workouts in the coming weeks as they finalize their draft boards. There will be various pro days on the radar and, of course, the draft combine and G League Elite Camp next month in Chicago, Illinois.

Underclassmen have until April 23 to declare for the draft. Several notable players have already decided to return to school, including Kyle Filipowski, Harrison Ingram, Baylor Scheierman and Kel’el Ware. Others are still mulling over their decisions.

With players still in the process of making decisions, some prospects were excluded from this mock draft because they are projected to return to school next season. However, most players projected to be drafted have already announced their decisions.

Rookie Wire took a look at where the draft stands following the NCAA Tournament. It is important to note that team needs were not necessarily taken into account with each pick. The projections are rather a look at where each individual player stands at this point of the process.

Note: The order of the draft was pulled from Tankathon as of April 14. The draft will have only 58 picks this year because the Bulls and 76ers were stripped of their second-round picks by the NBA due to tampering violations.

Utah State receives an at-large bid and No. 10 seed after run to MWC title game. There they find SEC for Missouri.

After a stunning run to the Mountain West Tournament Championship game last Saturday. The Utah State Aggies, who fell short against the regular season & tournament champion San Diego State, are still going dancing.

Having the conference rated so highly since very early on in the season certainly helped the Aggies Case on selection Sunday. After successfully navigating a non-conference slate with quality wins over San Francisco & Oral Roberts. The only blemish Utah State had to overcome was a 75-72 loss to Weber State at home in mid-December.

It was never a guarantee for Ryan Odom’s group but hearing the Aggies name called as a No. 10 seed Sunday was just the right amount of reassurance for this great Utah State team. They drew SEC opponent Missouri in their first round matchup, here is a little about the Tigers.

Who Are The Tigers

The Tigers are led by first year head coach Dennis Gates. A former California guard who got his first head coaching gig in the Midwest at Cleveland State.

There he led the Vikings to back to back Horizon League regular season titles. Also winning two Coach of the Year awards and making a trip to the big dance (the programs 3rd ever) and NIT. It was impressive enough to make the jump to the SEC last offseason.

Prior to his arrival, his predecessor had taken the Tigers to two NCAA Tournaments and has Missouri ranked in the top-10 just a season prior before stumbling to a 12-21 (5-13) finish. Back in the big dance in just year one has fans in Columbia jumping with excitement for the future.

How Did They Get Here

The Tigers secured an at-large bid by giving a very convincing non-conference performance. This as well as battling it out in the ever demanding SEC. Their resume began to truly take shape in late December. During the Holiday Break, Missouri managed to secure back to back wins over two top-25 ranked opponents.

Routing the No. 16 Illinois Fighting Illini in a neutral site cross border rivalry game in St. Louis. While then kicking off conference play against No. 19 ranked Kentucky squad, with a double digit win in Columbia.

Coach Gate’s squad then navigated their way throughout uber-competitive SEC. With wins over Arkansas, securing the sweep of a top-5 Tennessee Vols team and adding another top-25 win over Iowa State. Who themselves competed in the highest rated league in the nation in the Big 12.

The Tigers resume was stamped with a loss to eventual SEC Tournament champions Alabama last week. But the committee looked at an exciting Missouri team who could hang with the best of them and awarded them a No. 7 seed.

How to watch Alabama vs. Missouri in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament!

[autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team have advanced to the semifinals of the 2023 SEC Tournament and will take on the Missouri Tigers in Nashville for a chance to play for the SEC championships.

Alabama defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Friday in dominating fashion 72-49 while Missouri outlasted the Tennessee Volunteers 79-71 on Friday.

Alabama and Missouri had faced off once this season in Columbia when the Crimson Tide took down the Tigers 85-64. It’s important to note that Missouri was without its best player, Kobe Brown, for that matchup.

Saturday’s semifinal matchup is sure to be a fun one. Here is how you can catch all of the action!

The Crimson Tide will not only look to remain unbeaten in conference play but also keep their true road game record perfect too. Alabama’s two losses have come at neutral sites this season.

Freshman sensation Brandon Miller will look to continue his hot streak on the offensive end of the floor where he has back-to-back 30+ point performances.

Rebounding will play a large factor in today’s matchup as Alabama collects a commanding 46 boards per game while Missouri hauls in just a little over 31.

If the Tide can control the boards, they will likely leave Columbia with another win.

Alabama MBB comes from behind to take down Missouri at home 86-76

Alabama exacts revenge on Missouri in 86-76 home win against the Tigers.

Everything looked bleak for the Crimson Tide at one point during this SEC game tonight against the Missouri Tigers.

The doubt would soon be erased, however, as Alabama went on a big run in the latter half of the second half, overcoming a 14-point deficit to beat the Tigers by a score of 86-76.

Alabama shot just 43% from the floor and 33% from 3PT-range. Jaden Shackelford’s 21 points and seven rebounds helped the Tide overcome a slow start. Jahvon Quinerly tallied all 13 of his points in the second half to propel Alabama to the much-needed SEC win. JD Davison scored 17 and hit three out of four three-pointers.

Missouri hit 47% of their field goals, including 45% from three. Perimeter shooting is a weak spot for the Tigers, yet in both matchups against the Tide they lit it up from beyond the arc.

Jarron Coleman led Mizzou in scoring with 17 points. Forward Kobe Brown was much better neutralized by Nate Oats’ defense this time around than last and only managed six points, but brought down 10 boards.

The Crimson Tide improves to 4-3 in SEC play and 13-6 overall.

Missouri drops to 2-4 in SEC competition and 8-10 overall.

Next up for the Crimson Tide is an away game at Georgia to face off against the 5-14 Bulldogs on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. CST.

Georgia basketball loses 4th straight SEC matchup at Missouri

Georgia men’s basketball team loses their 4th straight SEC matchup in Columbia, MO to Missouri. The Dawgs are now 11-9, 1-6 in SEC play.

The Georgia Bulldogs men’s basketball team dropped a close one Tuesday night in Columbia to the Missouri Tigers by a score of 72-69.

The Dawgs have now lost four straight games, all of them being to SEC opponents.

Georgia led by as many as 20 points in the second half, thanks to freshman guard Anthony Edwards scoring 23 points, leading all players on the night.  Senior guard Tyree Crump put up 13 for the Dawgs as well as freshman forward Toumani Camara tacking on another 12.

The Bulldogs came out hot offensively but skidded to a halt later in the second half, sparking an offensive run from the Tigers.  Missouri’s senior forward Reed Nikko capitalized on the Dawgs cold second half shooting, finishing with a career 13 points, 11 of them coming in the second half surge.

“Momentum is always up for grabs,” Tom Crean said in a postgame interview. “And in the second half, Reed Nikko took momentum from us. Reed Nikko changed the energy of the game for them.”

Nikko also had a game saving play, blocking Edwards while up two with only nine seconds left in regulation.

Three Missouri players scored in double digits with junior guard Dru Smith leading the Tigers with 16.

Missouri freshman forward Kobe Brown was emotional for this game.  Brown was named by his father after the late Kobe Bryant and wears number 24 after Bryant.  Following the tragic news of the NBA legend and his daughters passing, Brown talked about Kobe Bryant postgame.

“I was bummed,” said Brown. “It took a toll. I send my regards to all the families that were involved in the crash.”

What looked like a promising, potential NCAA Tournament season is now on the line with very slim chances of the Dawgs being alive in March.  According to TR Brackets, Georgia now has a 2.2% chance of making the tournament.  Losing the past 4 SEC games moves the Bulldogs to 11-9 on the season with a 1-6 record in conference play.

With a 2.2% chance being very unlikely, things aren’t looking good for the Dawg faithful … but you’re saying there’s a chance.

Georgia continues their late season SEC play this Saturday vs Texas A&M at home.  Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. EST on SEC Network.
