Potential Sixers undrafted player profiles: Mouhamed Gueye

Washington State big man Mouhamed Gueye is one to keep an eye on in the undrafted market for the Philadelphia 76ers.

With the 2023 NBA draft right around the corner, Sixers Wire continues profiling players who could go undrafted and whom the Philadelphia 76ers could add to the roster after the draft.

The Sixers do not have a draft pick in the 2023 NBA draft on June 22. They traded their first-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets in the deal that brought James Harden to the City of Brotherly Love at the 2022 deadline, and they were docked second-round picks in 2023 and 2024 by the NBA for tampering.

However, that doesn’t mean the Sixers will or should be inactive around the draft process. There will be a number of talented players who go undrafted, meaning the Sixers should be able to add a young player who could potentially become a rotation piece.

Next up in this series is Washington State big man Mouhamed Gueye.

2023 NBA Mock Draft 5.0: 58 projections after the early entry withdrawal deadline

Rookie Wire took a look at where the next draft class stands following the early entry withdrawal deadline.

The NBA pre-draft process crossed another important checkpoint on the schedule with the early entry withdrawal deadline coming and going this week.

Prospects had the opportunity to test the waters and meet with teams to gain feedback on their potential draft stock. To maintain their remaining college eligibility, they had to withdraw from consideration by 11:59 p.m. EDT on Wednesday.

The deadline saw several potential second-round picks withdraw from the draft and return to school. With name, image and likeness playing a prevalent role in college basketball, players were likely swayed to stay one more year to work on their games and capitalize financially.

The 2024 draft is also projected to be weaker than in past years, which also may have played a role in some players opting against turning pro. They likely believe they will have a greater chance of being a first-round pick next year.

With several players off the board, teams can prioritize workouts and interviews with those individuals remaining in the draft. As a result, players’ stock will continue to fluctuate with less than three weeks to go until the draft.

4 potential undrafted forwards Sixers should look into after 2023 NBA draft

Here are four forwards who could potentially go undrafted that the Philadelphia 76ers should look into after the 2023 NBA draft.

The Philadelphia 76ers do not have a draft pick in the 2023 NBA draft. They traded away their first-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets in the deal that brought James Harden to the City of Brotherly Love at the 2022 deadline, and they were docked second-round picks in 2023 and 2024 by the NBA for tampering.

One should not brush off undrafted players. The Miami Heat are a prime example of investing in young talent and giving them time to develop. In the Sixers’ case, here are four forwards who could go undrafted but could help in the long run:

Potential second-round pick Mouhamed Gueye to keep name in NBA draft

Gueye will reportedly stay in the NBA draft and forgo his remaining college eligibility.

Washington State sophomore Mouhamed Gueye will reportedly stay in the 2023 NBA draft and forgo his remaining college eligibility, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Gueye initially declared for the draft last month while maintaining the right to return to school. However, he was widely expected to leave and turn pro as a projected second-round pick, and the 20-year-old has apparently made that decision official.

The 6-foot-11 forward was named to the All-Pac-12 first team after averaging 14.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists on 48.8% shooting from the field in 33 games. He led the conference in double-doubles (15) and was 18th in the country in offensive rebounding (111).

Gueye opted against participating in 5-on-5 scrimmages last week at the draft combine but recorded a 7-foot, 3 1/4-inch wingspan, the fourth-longest measurement among all players that participated. He also had the fifth-highest standing reach (9′ 2 1/2″).

He tested the pre-draft process last year and participated in the G League Elite Camp before returning to school. He improved in nearly every statistical category this past year and nearly doubled his scoring from a season ago (7.4 points per game).

Though he didn’t play competitively at the combine, Gueye performed in front of teams during his agency’s pro day in Chicago. He will continue to have the opportunity to improve his stock in team workouts and interviews now that he is fully committed to the draft.

2023 NBA Mock Draft 4.0: The latest projections after the draft lottery

Rookie Wire took a look at where the next draft class stands following the lottery.

The order of the 2023 NBA draft was decided this week by the lottery, and the San Antonio Spurs received the No. 1 pick for the third time in franchise history.

Of course, that means the Spurs will have the first opportunity to select 7-foot-4 French phenom Victor Wembanyama. They are apparently the team he had his sights set on, and he will now likely look to continue his basketball journey in San Antonio.

Elsewhere, Charlotte and Portland made jumps in their lottery positioning, and they now have more options to consider on draft night. Detroit dropped the furthest from No. 1 by virtue of having the worst record to No. 5.

With the order set, teams will ramp up their draft preparations.

This week, the league converged in Chicago for the G League Elite Camp and draft combine. Though many prospects skipped the 5-on-5 scrimmages and other testing, several seemingly helped themselves with great showings on the court.

Teams will continue to prioritize seeing those individuals that declared as early entrants since the deadline for them to return to school is May 31. Several prospects will have tough decisions to make in the coming days but should have more clarity after the combine.

Rookie Wire took a look at where the draft stands following the lottery. It is important to note that team needs were not necessarily taken into account with each pick. The projections are rather a look at where each individual player stands at this point of the process.

NBA draft combine 2023: A complete tracker of player invitations

Rookie Wire took a look at those prospects that have earned invitations to compete in the NBA draft combine and G League Elite Camp.

The NBA pre-draft process is in full swing as prospects work toward achieving the ultimate goal of hearing their names called by Commissioner Adam Silver on June 22.

Reports are beginning to surface of prospects receiving invitations to compete in the draft combine on May 15-21 in Chicago, Illinois. Each year, teams submit a list of players they would like to see invited, typically those with the highest odds of getting drafted.

The event features 5-on-5 games, strength and agility testing, shooting drills, measurements and other related on-court exercises. Prospects have the opportunity to improve their draft stock in a competitive environment against their peers.

Last year, 76 players were announced as participants in the event.

The G League Elite Camp will take place in Chicago on May 13-14 with players competing in front of NBA and G League scouts, coaches and front-office executives. The top performers will also be invited to perform in the draft combine.

The official list of participants for both events has yet to be unveiled.

Those underclassmen that filed as early entry candidates will also have the chance to interview with teams and gain feedback on their draft positioning. The information will be helpful in forming their decisions on staying in the draft or returning to school before the May 31 deadline.

2023 NBA Mock Draft 3.0: Projections for every pick post-March Madness

Rookie Wire took a look at where the next draft class stands following the NCAA Tournament.

The NBA pre-draft process is in full swing as prospects around the world prepare to transition to the next level.

Teams around the league will begin hosting private workouts in the coming weeks as they finalize their draft boards. There will be various pro days on the radar and, of course, the draft combine and G League Elite Camp next month in Chicago, Illinois.

Underclassmen have until April 23 to declare for the draft. Several notable players have already decided to return to school, including Kyle Filipowski, Harrison Ingram, Baylor Scheierman and Kel’el Ware. Others are still mulling over their decisions.

With players still in the process of making decisions, some prospects were excluded from this mock draft because they are projected to return to school next season. However, most players projected to be drafted have already announced their decisions.

Rookie Wire took a look at where the draft stands following the NCAA Tournament. It is important to note that team needs were not necessarily taken into account with each pick. The projections are rather a look at where each individual player stands at this point of the process.

Note: The order of the draft was pulled from Tankathon as of April 14. The draft will have only 58 picks this year because the Bulls and 76ers were stripped of their second-round picks by the NBA due to tampering violations.

Potential second-round pick Mouhamed Gueye declares for NBA draft

Gueye led the Pac-12 in double-doubles (15) and was 18th in the country in offensive rebounding (111).

Washington State sophomore Mouhamed Gueye, a potential second-round pick, announced this week on social media that he will declare for the 2023 NBA draft.

He did not specify if he’ll hire an agent or retain his college eligibility.

Gueye was named to the All-Pac-12 first team after averaging 14.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists on 48.8% shooting from the field in 33 games. He led the conference in double-doubles (15) and was 18th in the country in offensive rebounding (111).

The 6-foot-11 forward tested the pre-draft process last year and participated in the G League Elite Camp before returning to school. He improved in nearly every statistical category this season and nearly doubled his scoring from a season ago (7.4 points per game).

Gueye is viewed by some to be a potential second-round pick given his ability to work in the post and rebound at a high level. He will have the opportunity to improve his draft stock in private workouts and in the combine or G League Elite Camp.

Underclassmen have until April 23 to declare for the draft.

NCAA: Top returning players after early entry withdrawal deadline

With the early entry period now over, Rookie Wire took a look at the top returning players to college basketball next season.

The early entry withdrawal deadline passed on Wednesday, and several of the top prospects opted against staying in the NBA draft and returned to their respective schools.

The pre-draft process serves as a tremendous opportunity for underclassmen to get their foot in the door with teams and gain valuable feedback on how they can improve their games. Several players in recent memory have used the process to their advantage and come back the following year even better.

Teams now know which underclassmen will stay in the draft and who will play at least one more season in college. The deadline this year offered some drama. Several individuals took the decision all the way up until the final hour on Wednesday. The decision is certainly an important one and prospects used all of their allotted time to best serve their situation.

With the early entry period now over, Rookie Wire took a look at the top returning players to college basketball for next season who had declared for the draft and tested the pre-draft process.

Note: Those players that did not declare for the draft, such as Armando Bacot or Oscar Tshiebwe, were not included on this list. Players were ordered based on their pre-draft stock.
