Why Alabama Will Win

The Crimson Tide got back on track.

They were rolling through the SEC season before getting tripped up in the cross-conference matchup against Oklahoma. The offense worked just fine in the win over LSU, and now it gets a Missouri team that makes way too many mistakes, doesn’t move the ball around all that well, and should have problems against the aggressive Bama D that forces a ton of steals.

The Tigers don’t do enough from three if this gets into shootout, but …

Why Missouri Will Win

The Mizzou D is great at getting out on shooters. The Crimson Tide don’t need to hit from three to win, but they shoot it more than just about anyone else from the outside and make more from three than anyone in the SEC.

Missouri’s defense is strong at harassing shooters, few teams in the conference play better overall D, and it as the ability to keep scores low and close enough to stay in range at home. When its own three are falling, forget it.

Combine a good shooting day with this defense, and it finds ways to win.

What’s Going To Happen

It’s going to be a terrific game.

Missouri grinds more than it rolls, but it finds ways to win games by doing just enough good things at the right times – and that includes hitting free throws …

But not lately.

Alabama has ben better on the line than Mizzou has over the last few games, and it’ll make up for a rough game from the outside with just enough plays on the defensive boards and transition points to get out alive with a fantastic road win.

The SEC is back and tonight we have the Alabama Crimson Tide going on the road in their first game of the season against the Missouri Tigers at Faurot Field in Columbia, Missouri.

Alabama is coming off a year where they didn’t make the College Football Playoffs for the first time since it began, their team was riddled with injuries.  Meanwhile, the Missouri Tigers went 6-6 last year and have a tough matchup tonight to start the season.

Prediction: Missouri will struggle in this game and actually feel bad for them having to open up the season against Alabama. The one positive note for Missouri is being at home. I like Alabama to win this game but the real value may be the first half.

Bet: Alabama 1H -17.5

Why Alabama Will Win

Missouri will be working on its offensive line for a little bit.

It’s not like the Tigers will be awful up front, but new head coach Eliah Drinkwitz and the staff had some reworking to do,. New starting quarterback Connor Bazelak or Shawn Robinson will need time to get the proverbial feet wet, the secondary that was solid has to come up with a whole lot more picks and big plays, and …

Yeah, Alabama isn’t the team you play as a tune-up.

The Crimson Tide offensive line should be ready to blast away from the start. With everyone a bit rusty to start the season, the easiest thing to do is line up, run the ball, and keep it going. With Najee Harris and Brian Robinson working behind another line full of all-stars, Bama should control the game and the clock.

Why Missouri Will Win

Can the Mizzou passing game get into a rhythm early on?

The Alabama secondary is more than fine and full of excellent talents, but it’s the one area that’s going to need a little while to be great. The Tigers have to take advantage. and no matter who the starting quarterback is, he has to keep pushing.

The receivers are there to push the Tide, with Virginia Tech transfer Damon Hazelton a true No. 1 target around a slew of other new, dangerous parts. No one will expecting much of anything, so the Tigers are going to turn it loose.

What’s Going To Happen

Alabama 42, Duke 3.
Alabama 51, Louisville 14.
Alabama 24, Florida State 7.
Alabama 52, USC 6 … and on, and on, and on.

2014 West Virginia is the only team to not get obliterated in a Crimson Tide opener for a long, long time, and the last loss in a first game of the season was against UCLA back in 2001.

Bama will be business-like with good balance, a solid game from starting QB Mac Jones, and despite a few big Missouri plays here and there to give Nick Saban a few things to be mad about, there won’t be any major issues.
