Georgia basketball’s Jabri Abdur-Rahim to transfer to Big East school

UGA basketball’s second leading scorer transferring to Big East program

Georgia Bulldogs standout guard Jabri Abdur-Rahim has announced that he plans to transfer to the Providence Friars. Abdur-Rahim brings scoring, shooting, length and experience to the Friars.

Abdur-Rahim elected to enter the transfer portal after his third season with the Bulldogs. Abdur-Rahim is a former top recruit. He was expected to be Georgia’s leading returning scorer, but now will be playing elsewhere.

Overall, Abdur-Rahim averaged 12.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game for Georgia. His 35.6% three-point shooting provided a boost to the Georgia offense. Abdur-Rahim was Georgia’s second-leading scorer throughout the 2023-2024 basketball season behind Noah Thomasson, who is out of eligibility.

Abdur-Rahim also elected to enter the NBA draft in addition to entering the transfer portal. Abdur-Rahim averaged 26.0 minutes per game before suffering an ankle/foot injury and missing Georgia’s National Invitational Tournament semifinals run. His departure leaves a scoring void for the Bulldogs, but Georgia did play well in the NIT without him.

Third UGA basketball player enters the transfer portal

A third Georgia basketball contributor enters the transfer portal.

After losing two contributors to the transfer portal earlier on April 8, yet another player has opted to depart from the Georgia basketball program. Forward Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe announced via his Instagram that he will be entering the transfer portal.

Moncrieffe, listed at 6-foot-7, 215 pounds, started 26 games in his first year at Georgia in the 2022-2023 season, scoring 5.5 points per game as well as contributing 5.1 rebounds per game. However, his minutes declined this past season as he only recorded 1.4 points and 1.1 rebounds per game, with a high of six points against North Carolina Central near the start of the season.

Moncrieffe had previously played college basketball at Oklahoma State prior to transferring to UGA. He started 21 games for the Cowboys over two years, including a game in his freshman year against the Iowa State Cyclones in which he recorded a career-high 22 points and 12 rebounds. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Moncrieffe joins point guard Justin Hill, Georgia’s assist leader, and forward Jalen Deloach in entering the transfer portal.

Former UGA basketball guard enters transfer portal again

Former Georgia basketball guard, four-star recruit enters the transfer portal after spending one season at Texas Tech

Former Georgia basketball guard KyeRon Lindsay is entering the NCAA transfer portal again. Lindsay played a portion of the 2022-2023 season with Georgia before transferring to Texas Tech.

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound forward averaged just six minutes per game in his sophomore season with the Red Raiders, averaging 2.7 points per game. Lindsay appeared in nine games for Texas Tech.

Lindsay was a larger contributor for Georgia. Lindsay played 20 minutes per game for the Bulldogs. Lindsay, who is from Denton, Texas, averaged 6.2 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game with Georgia. Lindsay joins former Georgia guard KD Johnson in the transfer portal for a second time this offseason.

Lindsay is a former four-star recruit. Lindsay played in 10 of Georgia’s first 11 games back in 2022-2023.

During the 2023-2024 season, Texas Tech made the NCAA Tournament before falling to NC State in March Madness. Georgia basketball has advanced to the National Invitational Tournament semifinals.

Former Georgia basketball guard to enter the transfer portal

Former Georgia Bulldogs star plans to enter the transfer portal after spending the 2023-2024 season with Auburn

Former Georgia Bulldogs guard K.D. Johnson plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Johnson has played the past three seasons with the Auburn Tigers.

Johnson transferred to Auburn after playing the 2020-2021 season with Georgia. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound guard has averaged less points per game in every season after averaging 13.5 points as a freshman at Georgia. In 2023-2024. Johnson averaged 7.1 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 17.7 minutes per game for Auburn.

Johnson is from Atlanta, Georgia, and is a former four-star recruit from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia. This year, Johnson and Auburn made the NCAA Tournament after winning the SEC Tournament. However, Auburn’s season took a disappointing turn in the NCAA Tournament as the Tigers fell to Yale in their opening game.

It will be interesting to see where K.D. Johnson transfers to. Johnson has averaged at least one steal per game in all four of his years playing college basketball.

Georgia basketball falls to Florida in SEC Tournament

UGA basketball falls to Florida for third time this season in the SEC Tournament, finishes year 17-16

The Georgia Bulldogs lost to the Florida Gators, 85-80, in the SEC Tournament. Georgia fought hard against the Gators, but fell to 0-3 versus their hated rivals this season.

Georgia held a lead for much of the late first and early second half. The Dawgs, who were coming off a win over Missouri, kept things interesting, but were unable to breakthrough. Florida outrebounded Georgia, 53-36, and scored 51 points in the second half.

Georgia falls to 17-16 on the season. The Bulldogs, who went 6-12 in SEC action, won’t make the NCAA Tournament. Georgia has a shot to make the National Invitational Tournament, but that even may be a stretch. Senior Noah Thomasson scored 14 points to lead the Bulldogs against Florida.

Second year head coach Mike White and Georgia finish the year with a winning record for the first time since 2020-2021. However, the Bulldogs struggled against SEC opponents after winning 10-straight games from November to January.

Georgia is currently the No. 100 team in the NET rankings. The Bulldogs did well against a solid nonconfernece schedule, but were unable to win some critical close games in SEC play.

Georgia basketball’s SEC Tournament path revealed

The SEC Tournament bracket has been revealed! UGA basketball opens against Missouri

The Georgia Bulldogs (16-15, 6-12) begin SEC Tournament play on Wednesday, March 13 against the Missouri Tigers (8-23, 0-18) at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET. The Bulldogs would have to win five games in five days to win the SEC Tournament.

Georgia basketball finished the year as the No. 11 seed in the conference. The Bulldogs defeated Missouri, 75-68, in January. Missouri has not won a game since defeating Central Arkansas on Dec. 30, 2023.

Georgia should defeat Missouri. If the Bulldogs win, Georgia would face No. 6 seed Florida on Thursday, March 14 at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET in the second round of the SEC Tournament. The winner of that game would face Alabama in the quarterfinals.

Head coach Mike White and Georgia basketball can secure a better season in 2023-2024 than last season with a win over Missouri. Georgia, which would clinch a winning season with a win against Missouri, has not finished with a winning season since 2020-2021.

Georgia basketball lost its season finale against Auburn, but has played a little bit better in recent weeks.

Checking in on Georgia Bulldogs in the NBA

Former UGA stars Anthony Edwards, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Nic Claxton continue to have big roles for their respective NBA clubs

Three Georgia Bulldogs continue to have prominent roles for their respective teams in the NBA: Anthony Edwards, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Nic Claxton.

Through 62 games, the Minnesota Timberwolves have the best record (43-19) in the Western Conference. Anthony Edwards, a former No. 1 pick, has helped the Timberwolves look like a championship contender, but Minnesota must play better in the postseason this year.

Edwards has played in 59 games this season. He is averaging 26.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. The former Georgia superstar is shooting career-highs from the field (46.5%) and from three-point range (37.8%). Edwards efficient scoring is a big reason why he was selected as an NBA All-Star.

Not far behind Edwards and the Timberwolves in the Western Conference standings is Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the Denver Nuggets. Caldwell-Pope won his second career NBA championship last season and has the Nuggets off to a 42-19 start to the season. Denver will be a championship contender again as long as the Nuggets, who are the No. 3 seed in the west,  stay healthy.  Caldwell-Pope is scoring 10.0 points per game.

Brooklyn Nets forward/center Nic Claxton is having a solid year for the Nets. He is averaging 12.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. Claxton has played in 48 games this season. Brooklyn is the No. 11 seed in the Eastern Conference and would miss the postseason if the season ended today.

UGA basketball picks up crucial last-second home win over LSU

Georgia basketball earned a last-second win over LSU in front of Waka Flocka thanks to a last-second Russel Tchewa basket

Georgia basketball (14-5) earned a critical 68-66 home win over the LSU Tigers (11-8). Georgia center Russel Tchewa scored a clutch and-one basket to give the Bulldogs a two-point lead in the final seconds of the game. The Bulldogs played in front of rapper Waka Flocka.

Georgia has suffered just one loss (11-1) at Stegeman Coliseum this season and remains in the mix to earn a NCAA Tournament berth. The Bulldogs got a team-high 15 points from guard Silas Demary Jr. Additionally, Tchewa added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Georgia shot under 30% from three-point territory, but played excellent defense. The Bulldogs held LSU to under 40% shooting and forced 16 LSU turnovers. However, Georgia cough up the basketball 18 times and finished the night with only six assists. It is rare to win with an assist to turnover ratio like that.

Next up for Georgia is a road trip to face the Florida Gators on Saturday, Jan. 27 at noon E.T. Georgia needs to continue adding to its resume in order to solidify its NCAA Tournament hopes.

Social media was fired up after Georgia picked up a clutch win over LSU:

Georgia basketball is now 4-3. The Bulldogs now have wins over Florida State, Winthrop, Wake Forest, and NC Central. The Dawgs have suffered defeats to three quality opponents in Oregon, Miami, and Providence.

Georgia’s road win over Florida State is big for the Bulldogs, who have played a tough nonconference schedule. Georgia’s win evened up the ACC/SEC Challenge at 7-7.

Let’s take a look at Justin Hill’s clutch shot and reactions from Georgia’s win:

4-star SF Jacob Wilkins commits to UGA basketball

Jacob Wilkins, who is the son of former Georgia basketball legend Dominique Wilkins, has committed to Georgia basketball

Elite shooting forward Jacob Wilkins has committed to the Georgia Bulldogs over the Virginia Cavaliers. Wilkins, who is the son of former Georgia legend and NBA great Dominique Wilkins, announced his commitment to Georgia shortly after taking an official visit to the University of Georgia on Oct. 26.

The shooting forward has recently visited both Georgia and Virginia basketball. Georgia was not the only school with family ties for Jacob Wilkins. Interestingly, Jacob Wilkins’ brother, Isaiah, played at Virginia from 2015-2018. Isaiah Wilkins is now an assistant coach for the Cavaliers.

Head coach Mike White and Georgia basketball extended a scholarship offer to Jacob Wilkins in January 2023. Wilkins’ commitment is a big addition to Georgia basketball. The Bulldogs are building a lot of recruiting momentum. Georgia just earned a commitment from five-star forward Asa Newell. Georgia basketball remains in the mix for five-star Derrion Reid.

Wilkins is ranked as a four-star recruit, but is very close to being rated as a five-star. He’s the No. 16 player in the country and the No. 4 shooting forward in the class of 2025. Wilkins is the No. 3 player in Georgia, per 247Sports.

The four-star shooting forward plays high school basketball for Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia. Wilkins previously played for Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia.

The 6-foot-8, 170-pound small forward is lengthy and athletic. He excels in transition play and is a good dunker. He will continue to add to his weight and strength frame throughout the remainder of his high school career. It will be fun to watch Jacob Wilkins make a name for himself.

Wilkins’ dad, Dominique Wilkins, played basketball at Georgia from 1978-1982. Dominique Wilkins, who is arguably the best basketball player in Georgia history, was the No. 3 pick in the 1982 NBA draft. Wilkins played the majority of his NBA career for the Atlanta Hawks and made National Basketball Hall of Fame.
