Ohio State football recruiting update: Monster game, commitments wavering, and more

Jeremiah Smith goes off, two commits wearing non-Ohio State gear?!? #GoBucks

The high school football season is well underway, and it’s time to check in with what is happening with [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag]’s commitments and targets.

The Buckeyes have the second-best recruiting class in the country, and the top group in the conference. They trail Georgia in the race for the mythical recruiting national championship. There are still a few spots open to add players.

In this update, we look at who performed well during this past weekend’s games, a pair of current commitments who were seen wearing other team’s gear and a look at a top target that might be trending elsewhere.

WATCH: Ohio State receiver commit makes highlight reel TD

Ohio State wide receiver commit Jeremiah McClellan had an electrifying 54-yard touchdown on Friday night. Watch the incredible play here.

Jeremiah McClellan is the newest member of Ohio State’s star-studded group of wide receiver commits. He joined Jeremiah Smith and Mylan Graham in the 2024 class with his commitment to the Buckeyes about two weeks ago.

McClellan attends Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis, Missouri, and is ranked as the 17th wide receiver and 104th player in the 2024 class as a four-star recruit on the 247Sports composite.

He showed on Friday night why he’s such a highly touted recruit with an electrifying 54-yard touchdown. Off a screen pass, McClellan plunged forward and looked like he was going to be tackled by multiple defenders, but he somehow spun free to avoid being taken down and reversed all the way across the field for a remarkable touchdown.

This is type of skill set the Ohio State coaches are very excited about, and one of the reasons his commitment to the class is such a huge deal.

Ohio State football recruiting: What to expect from Jeremiah McClellan

Another high level receiver headed to Columbus #GoBucks

The [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] wide receiver recruiting machine struck once again as Missouri’s [autotag]Jeremiah McClellan[/autotag] verbally committed to the Buckeyes on Sunday afternoon.

The Buckeyes once again had added another elite talent to this room, along with Jeremiah Smith and Mylan Graham. The trio is the top collection in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

McClellan’s addition compliments his two future teammates’ game as they each could potentially be on the field at the same time together due to their different skill sets. After watching the 6-foot, 190-pound slot’s junior highlight film, it’s a rich get richer scenario for the Buckeyes.

Find out below what kind of skills McClellan possess and what to expect from him down the road.

Ohio State social media reacts to commitment of 4-star receiver Jeremiah McClellan

The Boom! had a ripple effect on social media. #GoBucks

As if the talent in the wide receiver room wasn’t already deep and talented enough, Brian Hartline and the Ohio State football program landed yet another high-profile pass-catcher on Sunday with the commitment of four-star prospect Jeremiah McClellan.

McClellan had been leaning OSU’s way and chose the Buckeyes over Oregon and Missouri. The decision only enhances the Buckeyes’ grip on being considered the current “Wide Receiver U” in the country. McClellan makes 21 pledges for the 2024 class, which is No. 2 in the country on the 247Sports team composite.

As usual, Ohio State social media — namely X, formerly known as Twitter — was quick with celebratory reactions to commemorate another big-time prospect selecting the banks of the Olentangy to call home for the next few years.

Here are some of the best reactions.

BOOM! Ohio State does it again, lands another big-time receiver

BOOM! Once again, OSU and Brian Hartline attract an explosive receiver. #GoBucks

Brian Hartline keeps pulling it off.

The Ohio State football program gained yet another blue-chip receiver for the 2024 class on Sunday when four-star prospect Jeremiah McClellan announced his commitment to the Buckeyes.

Out of Saint Louis, Missouri, the 6-foot, 190-pounder is ranked No. 18 among receivers and 108th overall in the recruiting cycle on the 247Sports composite. He chose Ohio State over Oregon and Missouri but appeared to be a heavy OSU lean of late. He made it official on Sunday, a few months after officially visiting Columbus.

McClellan comes from the same high school that produced another Buckeye you may be familiar with, former receiver Kamryn Babb. If he has anywhere near the character and leadership abilities Babb displayed, Ohio State will be ecstatic once he arrives on campus.

The wide receiver room continues to get deeper and more talented under Hartline and it’ll be very interesting to see how the program keeps all of these guys happy. but hey, it’s a good problem to have.

OSU continues to possess the No. 2 recruiting class in the country, according to the 247Sports team composite, and has 21 members committed.

4-star WR Jeremiah McClellan announces commitment decision

4-star WR Jeremiah McClellan announces commitment decision

The Oregon Ducks fought hard to get 4-star wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan to join the already impressive 2024 class in Eugene, but they were ultimately unable to land him in the end.

McClellan, the No. 91 overall player in the 2024 class, and the No. 17 WR, announced on Sunday afternoon that he would be committing to the Ohio State Buckeyes over the Ducks and Missouri Tigers.

Earlier this summer, McClellan took an official visit to Eugene and was reportedly very high on the Ducks. Over the past week, a long list of Oregon commits went on a social media blitz, trying hard to publicly recruit McLellan to become a Duck.

Oregon’s 2024 class is still looking very solid at the WR position, led by 4-star Jordan Anderson (No. 144 overall, No. 22 WR) leading the way. Adding McClellan would have been a great bonus, though.

Ohio State recruiting target Jeremiah McClellan sets commitment date

The Buckeyes final receiver target has narrowed down his list #GoBucks

It’s been a wild ride in the world of Ohio State football recruiting this season. The twists and turns have left Buckeye fans with moments of unexpected thrills as well as feelings of nausea.

Hang tight because we’re creeping up another steep hill not knowing what’s on the other side. Four-star receiver Jeremiah McClellan announced he’s ready to make his college commitment and plans to do so on Aug. 13.

Along with Ohio State, McClellan is considering Georgia, LSU, Missouri and Oregon. The Buckeyes have had crystal ball predictions to land the Missouri native since April, but we’ve seen recently how quickly those things can change.

While McClellan is the No. 18 receiver in the class on 247Sports’ composite, he would be a nice fit with the current crop of receivers committed to OSU. Both Jeremiah Smith and Mylan Graham are deep threats, and McClellan is projected to be a slot receiver. He would be the cherry on top of this receiving class.

The Buckeyes currently have the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation. Ohio State has 19 commitments in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot, 190-pound receiver won a state championship in football during the 2022 season. McClellan additionally plays outside linebacker for Christian Brothers College.

McClellan has elite speed. The four-star recruit is versatile and returns kickoffs at a high level. McClellan’s explosiveness is a big reason he is able to score touchdowns off so many screen passes. In 2022, McClellan accumulated 60 catches for 1,106 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns.

2024 4-star receiver sets commitment date

Jeremiah McClellan will announce where he will play his college ball on Aug. 13.

A 2024 four-star wide receiver from Saint Louis released his final five list of schools that are still in consideration for him to commit to. LSU joined the likes of Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon and Missouri on the final list.

We now know a date for his commitment. [autotag]Jeremiah McClellan[/autotag] will announce where he will play his college ball on Aug. 13. According to On3, Ohio State is a 91% favorite to land him and he has received two Crystal Ball projections to land him on 247Sports.

LSU currently has two wide receiver commits and both of them are four-stars ([autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag] and [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag]). So it wouldn’t be the end of the world if McClellan chooses the Buckeyes over the Tigers.

LSU’s 2024 recruiting class currently ranks as the No. 11 overall class in the country according to 247Sports. The Tigers recently held the Bayou Splash so we can expect a lot of offers to be rolling out soon.
