POST GAME REPORT: Alabama 2-0 against 2021 Final Four teams after 83-82 win over Houston

Alabama earned another Quadrant 1 with this one over #14 Houston!

It was a nailbiter in Coleman Coliseum this evening as the Crimson Tide played a close one against No. 14 Houston.

JD Davison gave a huge boost to the Tide after a outback slam dunk off of a Miss by Jahvon Quinerly.

Davison would become a hero after blocking a shot at the rim as the buzzer sounded.

Things got dicey right after the buzzer as the Cougars coaching staff crowded the officials, demanding a replay of what they thought was a goaltend on the block by Davison. They were denied as the officials walked off the floor with a trooper escort.

Video replay by the ESPN crew showed no visual evidence of a goaltend on the block.

Alabama has another win against a 2021 Final Four opponent, Gonzaga being the first last Saturday. The final score in this one ends up 83-82 in the Crimson Ride’s favor.

Alabama was led on the night in points by Juwan Gary with 19. He also added four rebounds.

Jaden Shackelford and Jahvon Quinerly had 18 and 17 points, respectively, with Shackelford also pulling down eight rebounds on the night.

The Tide was led in boards by Davison, who had nine rebounds to go with his 10 points.

Alabama shot well on the night at a 52% clip from the floor. They hit on 39% of their three-pointers and 77% from the foul line.

Houston’s junior guard Marcus Sasser led the Cougars in scoring with 23 points.

J’Wan Roberts, Houston’s sophomore forward, pulled down 13 rebounds on the night, including nine offensive boards.

This is an area of concern for Nate Oats and his Crimson Tide as we move forward in the season. Turnovers, free throws and rebounding should be points of emphasis as we continue.

This team is a solid top 10 and has the potential to make a long run in the postseason.

The win gives Alabama it’s eighth on the season, fifth at home. It also brings the Tide to a 2-0 record against last year’s Final Four participants, with No. 2 Baylor to become the third in January.

HALFTIME REPORT: Alabama up on No. 14 Houston 44-41 at the half

This is must-see TV! Bama hoops looks solid!

Alabama (7-1) is facing its second ranked opponent in as many games tonight as they take on No. 14 Houston (8-1) in Tuscaloosa. It’s the fifth home game of the year for Nate Oats’ squad, with a record of 4-0 to show so far this season.

The Crimson Tide have gotten off to a pretty good start offensively. They’ve shot 57% from the floor, including 37.5% from three.

It’s been a great day from the charity stripe, with 17 of 20 going down for a mark of 85%.

They’re led in scoring by sophomore forward Juwan Gary with 16 points. He’s also collected three boards on the night.

Jaden Shackelford and JD Davison have done a masterful job on the boards defensively, accounting for five each through the first half. Shackelford has six points while Davison has two.

The only thing negative I can say about the first half is the turnover issue. The Tide turned it over nine times in the first 20.

Defensively, Alabama has been satisfactory. They’ve allowed 42% shooting and 35% from three.

The Crimson Tide is looking good so far, but it has the potential to blow this game up and win big. Look for Alabama to clean up the turnover problem and look sharp out of the locker room for half two.

HALFTIME REPORT: Alabama dominating Gonzaga, up 51-35

Alabama is up big over #3 Gonzaga after 1H, leading 51-35!

Alabama basketball is playing the school’s second big game of the day after the Crimson Tide football team beat the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game by a score of 41-24, but after that one, all eyes were on Nate Oats and his Alabama hoops squad.

The No. 16 Crimson Tide is up against arguably the best team in basketball in Gonzaga, currently ranked third in the AP Poll. They are giving the Bulldogs everything they can handle so far through one half.

The Crimson Tide has been led by Jaden Shackelford in a big way, he has 20 points and has shot 6-for-7 from three-point range as Alabama leads the Bulldogs 51-23 at the half.

Alabama has shot 48% from the floor, including 43% from 3PT range.

They’ve allowed 44% shooting from Gonzaga, just 28% from three, as the Zags have only hit two three-pointers throughout the game.

With one half remaining, the Tide is in a great position to take another big win on the day!

POST GAME REPORT: Alabama gives Miami another beatdown on the year, winning 96-64

In two tries “The U” couldn’t get close to the Crimson Tide, losing in blowout fashion now in both football and basketball this year.

Alabama’s second half against the Miami Hurricanes in the ESPN Events Invitational got off to a fast start. After starting the second half up just 33-30, the Crimson Tide jumped out with a 7-0 run to increase their lead to 40-30.

The next eight points would be made by Keon Ellis, extending the Tide’s lead to 12, up 48-36.

The Crimson Tide increased their lead to as many as 25 points with 10:40 remaining via a 17-0 run, now leading 56-38.

As the game went on, the Crimson Tide continued to hit their three-point shots. The final score in this one was 96-64.

Keon Ellis dominated the second half, he lead the Tide in scoring with 22 points.

Jaden Shackelford, JD Davison and Juwan Gary scored 15, 13 and 13 respectively.

The freshman Davison also tallied 10 assists and six rebounds.

The Crimson Tide shot 53.6% from the floor, including 53.3% from three.

Defensively the Tide was suffocating. The Hurricanes did shoot 46% from the floor, but they only got 50 shots up. They shot 23.5% from three, only hitting on four triples in the game.

For Miami, Kameron McGusty lead the Canes tonight in points with 21.

Next up for the No. 10 Crimson Tide is a date with No. 1 Gonzaga in Seattle on Dec. 4.

HALFTIME REPORT: Alabama up 33-30 over Miami at the half

Jahvon Quinerly with the buzzer-beater to end the half, Tide up 33-30 over the ‘Canes.

Alabama is playing in their third game of the ESPN Events Invitational in Orlando, FL tonight and looking for their sixth win of the year.

The Miami Hurricanes aren’t making it easy for them, however, with a tight game ongoing throughout the first half. Alabama’s Jahvon Quinerly hit a buzzer-beater three-pointer to end the half, giving the Crimson Tide a 33-30 advantage.

Alabama has shot 40.6% from the field, including 16.7% from behind the three-point line. They’ve hit on two out of five free throws and committed nine turnovers in the half.

The Crimson Tide allowed 40.7% shooting from the field and 12.5% from three. Alabama forced seven turnovers and the Hurricanes shot 78% from the foul line.

Alabama’s leading scorer through 20 minutes is freshman JD Davison with 8 points.

Juwan Gary and Keon Ellis are right behind Davison on the board, both have each earned five points.

Kameron McGusty is the leader for the Canes with 12 points.

With one half to go, Alabama has plenty of time to bust this game wide open.

POST GAME REPORT: Alabama loses a close one to Iona in Orlando

On to the next!

The Alabama Crimson Tide lost Thursday evening’s game against the Iona Gaels by a final score of 72-68.

Alabama shot 44.6% from the field including 29.4% from three. It certainly wasn’t a normal night for the Crimson Tide’s offense, especially from beyond the arc.

The area of concern for Alabama was free-throw shooting. The Tide hit just 52% of their free throws, which would’ve ended up usurping the Gaels lead if added to the final tally.

Defensively, Alabama allowed 44% shooting and just 19% from three. The obvious difference in this game being in free throws, Iona hit on 76% of their charity shots.

Alabama did hold an advantage in the rebounding department, winning that battle 38-31.

Alabama turned the ball over 13 times, matching the number that the Gaels gave up.

Alabama’s leading scorer was Jaden Shackelford with 19 points. He posted a double-double with 10 rebounds, as well.

Jahvon Quinerly was right behind him with 15 points.

On the other side, Iona was led by Nelly Junior Joseph and Walter Clayton Jr, both with 15 points. Junior Joseph earned himself a double-double with 11 rebounds.

The Crimson Tide is now 4-1 on the season.

Alabama will take on Drake on Friday at 3:30 p.m. CT.

POST GAME REPORT: Alabama fends off Drake, wins 80-71

Alabama moves to 5-1 after the win over Drake in the ESPN Events Invitational.

Alabama fought another hard battle in Orlando during their second game of the ESPN Events Invitational, beating a good Drake team by a final score of 80-71.

Shots that normally go in for the Crimson Tide weren’t quite falling tonight, but they still managed to pull it off in a close matchup that was tight throughout most of the game.

That’s back-to-back games in which Alabama couldn’t catch a break from behind the line.

The Crimson Tide had a great day shooting the ball from the field and finished with 54%. As mentioned earlier, they did have another bad day from the three-point line, finding the bottom of the net on just 26% of those three-point shots. Alabama turned in another bad shooting night from the free-throw line, finishing up with 13-22 from the stripe.

Turnovers were an issue throughout the game for Alabama, who gave up 17 of them.

Alabama was led on the scoreboard by Jahvon Quinerly, who stepped off the court with 18 points and four assists.

JD Davison came off the bench and put up seven points and five rebounds. Jaden Shackelford, Alabama’s leading scorer on the season, scored 14 points and pulled down five rebounds. Sophomore forward Juwan Gary contributed a double-double, tallying up 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Defensively, the Crimson Tide gave up 42% shooting, including 36,8% from beyond the arc.

The leading scorer for the Bulldogs was DJ Wilkins with 17 points.

Alabama forced 15 turnovers and scored 20 points off of them.

The Crimson Tide will take on Miami on Sunday for their final game of the ESPN Events Invitational.

HALFTIME REPORT: Tight game in Orlando, Alabama up 33-29

Alabama is looking for W number 5!

Nate Oats has his No. 10 Alabama (4-0) team in a tight matchup with the Iona Gaels (5-0) at the ESPN Events Invitational in Orlando, leading by a score of 33-29.

Alabama hasn’t had any issues shooting the ball, overall, but free-throw shooting and 3PT field goals have certainly been subpar in this outing. The Tide has shot just 6-11 from the charity stripe and 20% from the three-point range.

The Tide has the advantage on the boards so far, the tally being 20 rebounds for the Tide to the Gaels’ 13.

Jaden Shackelford and Jahvon Quinerly lead the Crimson Tide with 10 points apiece. Shackelford has also pulled down seven rebounds and has the Tide’s only three-point shot in the game.

After a relatively low-scoring first half, the Crimson Tide should come out with an answer to the Gaels defense after the half.
