Mock trade sees Bulls cash in on Pelicans-Blazers trade for third pick

In this mock trade, the Chicago Bulls would capitalize on the New Orleans Pelicans’ desire to trade up in the 2023 NBA Draft.

The Chicago Bulls are in desperate need of young talent. Their current core is not going to get them over the hump, and while Arturas Karnisovas is intent on running it back with the same guys, that will only lead to the same middling result. Adding youth to the roster is the best way to ensure a brighter future in Chicago.

Luckily for the Bulls, there should be a lot of trades going down this summer. A lot of teams are getting ready to either rebuild or push forward and compete for a playoff spot. Even if the Bulls don’t want to completely rebuild, getting in on some of the trades in order to add young talent could be worth consideration.

So, this one is for Bleacher Nation’s Elias Schuster. When the reporting came out that the New Orleans Pelicans are interested in trading up to land Scoot Henderson, he tweeted, begging for them to send Dyson Daniels to the Bulls. Let’s mock up a trade that would do just that.

Pelicans’ Dyson Daniels provides positive update on ankle injury

Daniels has missed the past 11 games due to a sprained right ankle suffered on Jan. 24.

New Orleans Pelicans rookie Dyson Daniels is nearing a return to the court after suffering a sprained right ankle on Jan. 24 in a loss to the Denver Nuggets.

Daniels has missed the past 11 games due to the injury. He appeared to step on the foot of a defender after a layup attempt and was eventually ruled out of returning.

He was seen after that game in a walking boot and on crutches.

The Pelicans initially listed Daniels as probable to play on Thursday against Toronto in their first game back after the All-Star break. However, he has been downgraded to questionable by the team.

Still, he appears to be close to playing again.

“It has been healing really well,” Daniels told Andrew Lopez of ESPN. “So after the All-Star break, I’m going to be back out there, hopefully, and playing again. All of the rehab and stuff has been going really well but, unfortunately, those things happen.”

Daniels has emerged as a key player this season with the Pelicans. He is averaging 4.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists on 44.5% shooting from the field in 39 games. He started six games prior to the injury and averaged 6.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.3 steals in that span.

Pelicans’ Willie Green provides injury update on Dyson Daniels

Daniels suffered the injury in the second quarter on Tuesday in a loss to the Nuggets.

New Orleans Pelicans rookie Dyson Daniels is expected to miss some time due to a sprained right ankle, head coach Willie Green said on Wednesday.

Daniels suffered the injury in the second quarter on Tuesday in a loss to the Denver Nuggets. He appeared to step on the foot of a defender after a layup attempt. He immediately hit the ground in pain and eventually needed assistance back to the locker room.

The eighth pick later left the arena in a walking boot and crutches. He was ruled out of playing on Wednesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves and will not be available in the immediate future, according to Andrew Lopez of ESPN.

Daniels has emerged as a key player this season with the Pelicans. He is averaging 4.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists on 44.5% shooting from the field in 39 games. He recently started six games and averaged 6.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.3 steals in that span.

Pelicans’ Willie Green explains what makes Dyson Daniels unique

Daniels was highly touted entering the NBA as a defender and it is that ability that has been on display so far this season.

Dyson Daniels was highly touted entering the NBA as a high-level defender who could affect games in a variety of ways. That ability has been on display so far this season.

Daniels was taken with the eighth pick by the New Orleans Pelicans. He played last season with the G League Ignite and was the highest-drafted prospect from that team, which also included draftees MarJon Beauchamp and Jaden Hardy.

He is averaging 4.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and one steal in 37 games this season with the Pelicans. With the Pelicans dealing with injuries, Dyson has started in each of the last five games and is posting 5.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists in that span.

Pelicans coach Willie Green explained what makes him unique.

Dyson has been doing great for us. A young guy — 19 years old — I’m kind of throwing him in the fire, especially with guys being out but he is handling it well. We know he is an excellent defender, a high-IQ basketball player on the floor. He’ll make some mistakes and those are things we can correct and continue to get better but he brings a ton of confidence into games. He has great size for a wing. He can play four positions and guard four positions so that makes him unique. We’ll continue to work together with our whole group. We’re excited about Dyson and what he brings to our team.

Daniels has produced when called upon this season. He brings immense energy and effort to every play and can affect games on both ends of the court. He is also counted on to guard the opposition’s best player and often finds success in that role.

He will continue to develop as the season progresses, but it is clear Daniels is emerging as a key player for New Orleans. It can be rare that a first-year player contributes nightly for a playoff contender, but Daniels has looked anything but a rookie at times.

The Pelicans were ecstatic to add Daniels through the draft and believe he can be a player that can contribute. He is taking advantage of his opportunity this season and will be a hard player to keep off the court based on his recent production.

Pelicans’ Dyson Daniels flirts with triple-double on career night

Daniels set career highs in points and assists and nearly recorded the first triple-double by a rookie this season.

Dyson Daniels has often been praised as a player who can fill the stat sheet in a variety of ways, and the eighth pick did just that in a major way on Wednesday with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Dyson produced 14 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and one steal in a 126-108 win at home over the Toronto Raptors. He finished by shooting 6-of-9 from the field and 1-of-2 from 3-point range in 31 minutes of work off of the bench.

The 19-year-old set career highs in points and assists with the performance and nearly recorded the first triple-double by a rookie this season. It was only his second time reaching double figures.

Pelicans coach Willie Green was impressed with the effort.

He was huge for us. It is funny watching him play. He is just getting better the more that he gets time. He is poised. He makes really good plays. Nine assists, eight rebounds and 14 points, close to a triple-double from a 19-year-old young man is impressive.

Said Trey Murphy III:

He was hoopin’. It felt like he was hoopin’ for sure, but he almost had a triple-double at 19 years old. Come on now. Who is really doing that? You haven’t heard of a lot of people doing that in recent years. He is a really special talent, and I’m very proud of Dyson and the progression he has had.

Daniels played sparingly to begin the season and was even a healthy scratch from the lineup as recently as the beginning of November. He eventually cracked the rotation and has seen a larger role over the last eight games off the bench.

He is averaging 6.6 points, five rebounds and three assists on 52.5% shooting from the field over that span. His numbers may not jump off the page, but Daniels has provided sound defense and has given the group a shot of energy in the second unit.

Daniels is getting increasingly more comfortable on the court.

I’m very confident and it is only building more and more with each game. The coaches are putting trust in me, as well. They are putting me out there, giving me the minutes and letting me run the team with the ball. I’m feeling comfortable and I want to keep building, making the right decision and playing hard. I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve been getting and I want to take it with both hands.

The Pelicans were ecstatic to add Daniels through the draft and believe he can be a player that can contribute. He is taking advantage of his newfound opportunity and will be a hard player to keep off the court based on his recent production.

Pelicans’ Dyson Daniels had a career night on the glass versus Memphis

Daniels only logged 17 minutes of work on Tuesday but made the most of his time to help the Pelicans defeat the Grizzlies.

Dyson Daniels logged only 17 minutes of work on Tuesday, but the eighth pick made the most of his time to help the New Orleans Pelicans defeat the Memphis Grizzlies.

Daniels recorded just three points but hauled in a career-high nine rebounds to go along with one assist, one steal and one block in the 113-102 win at home. He also contributed a great defensive effort and finished a season-high plus-13 on the court.

Pelicans coach Willie Green liked his effort off the bench.

He and Herb (Jones) just give you a comfort level when they’re on the floor. He is only 19, but he doesn’t play like it. He has been working. He stays in the gym working on his shot. He understands the game at a high level. We all feel comfortable putting him on the floor, and I’m super excited about what he did tonight and what he’ll continue to do in the future.

The stats by Daniels likely don’t jump off the page, but he seemingly made all of the right plays and gave the team a great boost of energy. Teams often look for players to do the little things on the court and chase the 50-50 balls, which Daniels did.

Daniels showed off his arm strength in the game, too.

His nine rebounds led the Pelicans, topping the eight by Naji Marshall and seven by Larry Nance Jr. Nance, known as a great rebounder, gave Daniels credit for outrebounding him.

Dyson was huge today. He outrebounded me in 13 less minutes — nine rebounds. Eight (were) defensive, where that is a spot we’re severely lacking. That’s how you find minutes in this league. When you get your chance, you gotta answer the call to whatever the team needs, and Dyson did that perfect today. He hit the offensive glass, defensive glass, guarded his man and got a block. He earned himself some minutes today.

C.J. McCollum took notice that Daniels outrebounded Nance, too.

He just plays hard. He does all of the little things. (He was) plus-13 and great for us down the stretch. He had more rebounds than Larry. Larry has gotta rebound the ball more. I hope he is watching this. He was aggressive, made some great passes and some great plays. Defensively, he was locked in and engaged and showing why he was drafted so high.

The effort by Daniels will likely go a long way in earning more playing time, as Nance alluded to. Daniels was known as a great defender entering the season. He vowed to bring that each time he stepped onto the court, along with whatever else the team needed.

He did just that on Tuesday versus Memphis.

Pelicans’ Dyson Daniels earns high praise after breakout game

Daniels had minimal playing time entering Tuesday but stepped up in a big way to help the short-handed Pelicans knock off the Mavericks.

Dyson Daniels had three total minutes of playing time entering play on Tuesday, but the eighth pick stepped up in a big way to help the short-handed New Orleans Pelicans knock off the Dallas Mavericks.

Down Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Herb Jones, the Pelicans leaned on their depth to pull out the 113-111 win to improve to 3-1. They had eight players score in double figures, led by Trey Murphy III (22 points), Naji Marshall (15 points) and C.J. McCollum (14 points).

Daniels produced 11 points, three rebounds, three steals, two assists and one blocked shot in 22 minutes off of the bench. He was matched up on Luka Doncic (37 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists) and held his own, while also forcing a couple of turnovers.

Pelicans head coach Willie Green liked Daniels’ performance.

It is a credit to who he is as a person, his family and how he has been brought up. He is 19, but he doesn’t act like it. He and Herb kind of have that same kind of demeanor: Very poised, sort of quiet but just tough. (He is) another young guy we’re grateful to have.

Daniels saw his playing time in mop-up duty in the Pelicans’ 22-point win against the Brooklyn Nets on opening night. He was a healthy scratch from the lineup in each of their last two games but seemingly stayed ready for his opportunity on Tuesday.

He impressed the coaching staff and his teammates during the offseason and again in training camp. The team is very high on his potential, and the 19-year-old showed off some of that ability when his number was called.

McCollum was happy to see Daniels perform well in his spot minutes.

He is a very hard worker. He is one of the guys that are in the gym early. I pull up, and I get there pretty early, and I see his car is there. I see him stretching, getting his shots in. He is doing what he is supposed to do to stay ready for these types of moments.

The Pelicans were ecstatic to add Daniels through the draft and believe he can be a player that can contribute in the future. He may see sporadic playing time in the early going, but his effort on Tuesday offered a glimpse of what he can bring on a nightly basis.

New Orleans returns to action on Friday in Phoenix.
