Bulls Rumors: Chicago signs Justin Lewis to two-way contract

The Chicago Bulls have reportedly signed Justin Lewis to a two-way contract.

According to multiple Chicago Bulls sources, the team signed Justin Lewis to a two-way contract for the season. While no announcement has been made, multiple media members have reported the move, including Cody Westerlund of 670 The Score and Will Gottlieb of CHGO.

Lewis was supposed to be on a two-way deal with the Bulls last season, but he suffered a season-ending injury before the year began. He remained around the organization while rehabbing and returned to the floor during summer league this offseason. Unfortunately, he was injured once again, appearing in just two of the team’s summer league contests.

Now, Lewis will have the opportunity to earn reps in the G League with the Windy City Bulls this season.

In his two summer league games for the Bulls, Lewis averaged 4.5 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist per game while shooting 50% from the field.

Lewis spent two years at Marquette before making the jump to the NBA. In his sophomore season, Lewis averaged 16.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per contest while shooting 44% from the floor and 34.9% from behind the three-point arc.

As things stand, the Bulls have some solid depth at the forward position, including Patrick Williams, Torrey Craig, Dalen Terry and Julian Phillips. It would be difficult for Lewis to break into that rotation, but he’ll be able to develop in the G League.

With his decent collegiate 3-point percentage, above-average rebounding, and abilities on the defensive end, it made sense for Chicago to bring him back on a two-way.

All signs point toward ‘Justin Lewis bandwagon’ for Bulls fans

Should Chicago Bulls fans be getting excited to watch Justin Lewis in Summer League?

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

For the Chicago Bulls, the primary goal heading into this summer is to make the playoffs next season. After getting bounced in the play-in tournament, they set their sights on improvement rather than a teardown. However, they should still be keeping an eye on their youngsters in an attempt to develop up-and-coming talent.

The summer league will provide the perfect opportunity for that: Dalen Terry and rookie Julian Phillips are set to earn major opportunities. However, another guy to keep an eye on is Justin Lewis, who played well in summer league last summer but tore his ACL before getting a chance to play in the regular season.

Elias Schuster of Bleacher Nation expressed his excitement for Lewis in a recent article.

“In all seriousness, I’m not going to be shocked if I walk away from summer league sitting first class on the Justin Lewis bandwagon,” Schuster wrote. “I’ve already been riding in coach since his second season at Marquette, so it might not take much to push me up a handful of rows. He flashed some real positive signs before tearing his ACL during last year’s Summer League showcase, and the Chicago Bulls’ latest clip from Summer League practice might suggest he’s ready to do that again.”

The 21-year-old is 6-foot-7 and can play either forward position. With him, Terry, Phillips and Patrick Williams all on the roster, the Bulls are loaded with young talent at the forward position, and fans should keep an eye on the former three throughout summer league.

Rookie F Justin Lewis re-signs with the Bulls on a two-way deal

Rookie F Justin Lewis re-signs with the Bulls on a two-way deal.

The Chicago Bulls have brought back rookie Justin Lewis on a two-way deal for a second stint with the squad. The signing was made official on Monday following the team’s decision to promote two-way player Carlik Jones to a main roster rest of the season contract.

Lewis made waves during Las Vegas Summer League after going undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft. He initially earned the two-way contract before suffering an ACL injury in August and remained under contract until being waived after the preseason.

After seven months, Lewis returns to the franchise, but it is unclear whether he will see any playing time for the rest of the year. Chicago is possibly securing the Marquette Golden Eagle for the future with this decision, as the Bulls now have his rights and can determine their next move.

Lewis averaged 16.8 points and 7.9 rebounds during his sophomore season at Marquette, showing plenty of versatility as a forward. The 6’8″ forward will be worth watching if he’s fully recovered from his surgery.

Bulls bring Justin Lewis back on two-way contract after knee injury

Lewis was waived by the Bulls prior to the start of the season after suffering a torn ACL at a workout in August.

Justin Lewis on Tuesday signed a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls after spending the beginning of the season with the organization, the team announced.

Lewis originally signed a two-way contract with the Bulls in the offseason. He suffered a torn ACL away from the team at a workout and underwent surgery in August. They waived him prior to the start of the season, but he remained in Chicago to rehab at their facility.

The organization liked Lewis after signing him as an undrafted free agent last year and believed he could have made an impact this season. He will now return to the team in an official capacity.

He played with the Bulls during the Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 7.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and one assist in five appearances. He produced his best game in Las Vegas on July 16 with 11 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Bulls’ Dalen Terry, Justin Lewis pulled up to support the Chicago Sky

Terry and Lewis were among those on hand to watch the Sky host the Aces in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup championship.

Chicago Bulls rookies Dalen Terry and Justin Lewis on Tuesday were among those on hand to watch the Chicago Sky host the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup championship.

The Commissioner’s Cup is an in-season tournament in which each team plays 10 designated games toward the event. The Sky and Aces, as the two teams with the top cup records from each conference, advanced to face off in the second annual championship.

Unfortunately, Terry and Lewis weren’t treated to a Sky celebration.

Kelsey Plum scored a game-high 24 points and A’ja Wilson had 17 points, 17 rebounds and six blocked shots to lead the Aces to the 93-83 win. Candace Parker recorded 20 points and 14 rebounds while Kahleah Copper and Emma Meesseman each had 18 points for the Sky.

Each Aces player was rewarded with $30,000 for winning with the Sky receiving $10,000.

Terry and Lewis, who were also joined by Javonte Green, each took some time to support their hometown team on Tuesday. Terry also took in a Chicago White Sox game earlier this month and had the opportunity to throw out the first pitch.

Terry, the 18th pick last month, turned in a strong run with the Bulls in the Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 11.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists in five games. Lewis, who is signed to a two-way contract, posted 7.6 points and 4.4 rebounds in five games.

Marquette sophomore Justin Lewis on Wednesday announced that he will remain in the 2022 NBA draft and forgo his remaining collegiate eligibility after two years with the Golden Eagles.

The news was first reported by Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated.

Lewis, who was named the Big East Most Improved Player, averaged 16.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals in 32 games. His 18.2 points per game during conference play was third among all players while he was first in field goals (128).

Underclassmen have until 11:59 p.m. EDT on Wednesday to withdraw from the draft and return to school.
