Former Alabama guard Keon Ellis signs three-year deal with Sacramento Kings

Former Alabama guard Keon Ellis and the Sacramento Kings have agreed on a three-year contract

Recently, the Alabama men’s basketball program has had success with sending guards to the NBA. That success has translated to the next level for one guard in particular.

On Friday morning, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Sacramento Kings and Keon Ellis have agreed to terms on a three-year contract. The terms of the deal have not been released at this time.

Previously, Ellis was on a two-way contract with the Kings. This means that Ellis was simultaneously rostered on both the NBA team and the G-League affiliate, the Stockton Kings.

Now, he will officially be a part of the Kings’ active roster. So far, Ellis has averaged 11.9 minutes per game and 3.8 points per game. The best game of his professional career came this season against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The former Alabama guard scored 17 points, reeled in six rebounds, and dished out three assists.

Currently, the Kings sit at No. 7 in the Western Conference. The addition of Ellis as a full-time member of the Kings bench should be a boost. His ability to knock down threes and play elite defense should see him contribute in a big way down the stretch.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding the Alabama men’s basketball program and its former players in the NBA.

Over the years, the Alabama men’s basketball program has placed players in the NBA. Despite Alabama being known predominantly for its football prowess, the Crimson Tide has stepped up in a big way in the last six years.

Since 2018, Alabama has had seven players drafted by NBA front offices. Not to mention, five of the seven that were chosen were first-round picks.

Basketball has become more meaningful in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It has turned into a hotbed for some of the top prospects in college basketball.

Former Alabama guard Keon Ellis re-signs with Sacramento Kings on two-way contract

Former Alabama guard Keon Ellis and the Sacramento Kings agreed to terms on a two-way contract on Sunday.

Former Alabama guard Keon Ellis and the Sacramento Kings agreed to a two-way contract on Sunday. Such a contract allows players to be rostered on the NBA and G-League teams.

In two seasons at Alabama, Ellis made 40 starts, averaging 8.8 points per game and shooting 45.8% from the floor. He was also named to the All-SEC Defensive Team as a senior. Following his senior season, Ellis went undrafted and was signed to a two-way contract by the Kings.

Last season, Ellis spent the majority of his rookie campaign with the Stockton Kings. Ellis started in each of the 23 games that he played in. He averaged 16.8 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game, and 3.4 assists per game. Ellis also shot an efficient 51.7% from the field and 44.4% from three.

In 16 games for Sacramento, Ellis averaged 4.4 minutes per game and averaged 1.5 points per game.

The Kings are one of the fastest-rising teams in the league and have a good core of young players. While Ellis is still working to earn a spot on the main roster, he is seemingly paving the way for success in the G-League. With that said Ellis will have the opportunity to impress the coaching staff and front office this summer as he will be participating in the Kings summer league.

Alabama in NBA: How former Alabama MBB players are performing this season

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at Bama hoops at the professional level. The Crimson Tide are well-represented across the league.

The Alabama men’s basketball program has had a history of sending players to the league. Several that come to mind are Robert Horry, Mo Williams, and Latrell Sprewell. Recently, others have followed suit and are trying to create careers for themselves as well.

The first thing that an average sports fan would label with the word “Alabama” is the football program. However, Alabama basketball head coach Nate Oats has helped elevate the basketball program to new heights in the past few years.

He has helped players like Herb Jones, JD Davison, and Kira Lewis Jr. all reach the NBA.

Kings give Keon Ellis the game ball after scoring his first NBA points

Ellis scored his first points in the NBA and was presented with the game ball after knocking off the Rockets.

Sacramento Kings rookie Keon Ellis on Wednesday scored his first points in the NBA and was presented with the game ball after knocking off the Houston Rockets.

Ellis, who is signed to a two-way contract, has primarily played with the Stockton Kings in the NBA G League this season. He had totaled only nine minutes of action across three prior appearances and finally had his first scoring opportunity on Wednesday.

With the game winding down and the Kings up by 17 points, the undrafted guard from Alabama pulled up from behind the arc and drained the 3-pointer to cap the 135-115 victory.

Ellis is averaging 14.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.7 steals on 36.9% shooting from 3-point range in 18 games with Stockton. He has scored in double figures 15 times, including a season-high 27 points, which he has hit twice.

He is 23rd in scoring among all players signed to two-way contracts.

Alabama Basketball: 2022-2023 SEC schedule rotation

Alabama MBB 2022-2023 schedule rotations announced

The Alabama Men’s Basketball team has received their schedule rotation for the 2022-23 SEC season. The rotation will include nine games at Coleman Colosseum and nine games on the road. Some of the marquee matchups on the schedule are home and away’s with both Arkansas and Auburn as well as at Tennessee, and hosting both Florida and Kentucky.

The Tide finished the 2021-22 campaign going 9-9 in the conference, which was good for a sixth-place finish. They were then knocked out of the SEC tournament by Vanderbilt in the first round and lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament to Notre Dame. A disappointing end to what was a very promising season at one point.

The Tide does look to bounce back this year with a much deeper tournament run and more consistent play. [autotag]JD Davison[/autotag], [autotag]Jaden Shackelford[/autotag], [autotag]Keon Ellis[/autotag], and a few others are gone so the team we see in 2022 will be all new faces with the exception of [autotag]Jahvon Quinerly[/autotag].

Nate Oats and his squad have been recruiting incredibly well and the boys are ready for a massive 2022-23 campaign.

Keon Ellis signs two-way contract with Sacramento Kings

Keon Ellis will get his shot at the NBA!

Keon Ellis was one of the few key contributors to Alabama men’s basketball in the 2021-2022 season. Though he was not selected in the 2022 NBA draft, Ellis will get his shot in the league.

Shortly after the draft concluded, Ellis reportedly signed a two-way contract with the Sacramento Kings, which does not guarantee him a spot, but will certainly lead to an opportunity for Ellis to prove himself.

The landing spot is ideal for undrafted Ellis, as the team contains a lot of young talent and is looking to develop players for the future.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Ellis and other former Alabama players now in the NBA.

Lakers draft prospect profile: Keon Ellis

Our look at University of Alabama wing Keon Ellis.

Just because the Los Angeles Lakers do not have a pick in the NBA draft doesn’t mean they’re not doing their due diligence on draft prospects.

The team is reportedly interested in acquiring a second-round pick, and many expect it to also try to sign at least one undrafted player as a free agent.

One player the Lakers recently brought in for a workout is Keon Ellis, a 6-foot-6, 175-pound wing from the University of Alabama.

Ellis played a full four seasons in college and is projected to either go in the second round or become an undrafted free agent.

Here is a look at Ellis.

Report: Malaki Branham, others worked out with Cavaliers on Wednesday

The Cavaliers hosted a couple of potential first-round targets for a workout on Wednesday.

Ohio State freshman Malaki Branham on Wednesday was reportedly among the prospects to participate in a pre-draft workout with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.

Branham, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, averaged 13.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and two assists in 32 games with the Buckeyes. He was one of five freshmen in the country to have multiple 30-point games, and one of two from a Power Five school.

The 6-foot-5 guard is regarded as one of the top shooters in the draft after converting 41.6% of his 3-point attempts last season. He tied a Buckeyes freshman record with six 3s on Jan. 2 en route to a career-high 35-point performance.

In addition to Branham, the Cavaliers also hosted Alabama guard Keon Ellis and NBA G League Ignite forward MarJon Beauchamp among others. Cleveland has also previously worked out prospects like Tari Eason, TyTy Washington and E.J. Liddell.

Cleveland enters the draft with the 14th pick in the first round and selections 39 and 58 in the second round, respectively. Of the group on Wednesday, Branham and Beauchamp could be possible targets at 14.

The NBA draft will take place on June 23.
