Brown will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing a successful surgical procedure to address a right tibia stress fracture.

Indiana Pacers rookie Kendall Brown will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing a successful surgical procedure to address a right tibia stress fracture, the team announced.

Brown, who is signed to a two-way contract, initially suffered a stress reaction in his right tibia in December and was ruled out indefinitely. He missed six weeks of action and returned to play with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the G League.

The 48th pick continued to try to play through the pain and made 10 appearances with the Mad Ants after returning on Jan. 22. The original stress reaction was eventually upgraded to a fracture and the decision to have surgery was made at that point.

He is expected to make a full and complete recovery.

The Pacers loved the addition of Brown in the second round this year and believe he can develop into a rotation player. He is still a bit raw in terms of his offensive ability, but the early showing by the 19-year-old is certainly an encouraging sign.

Bennedict Mathurin, Kendall Brown throw out first pitch for Indy Indians

Pacers rookies Bennedict Mathurin and Kendall Brown were each on hand on Friday to watch the Indianapolis Indians.

Indiana Pacers rookies Bennedict Mathurin and Kendall Brown on Friday each threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Indianapolis Indians, the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Mathurin and Brown were among those on hand to take in the festivities at Victory Field as the Indians hosted the Louisville Bats, the Cincinnati Reds’ Triple-A team. The event marked one of the first for the two players in their new city.

Each took the mound to some applause from the fans in the stadium. After their introductions, they took a few seconds and delivered a couple of strikes to kick off the game, which the Indians took, 6-1.

The Pacers selected Mathurin sixth out of Arizona in the NBA draft. He had a strong run with the team in Las Vegas, earning second-team all-summer league honors after averaging 19.3 points, four rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals on 38.5% shooting from 3-point range.

Brown, the 48th pick, averaged 9.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, two steals and 1.8 assists on 50% shooting from the field in five games in summer league. He posted his best game on July 15 with 14 points, two rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Pritchard conceded, that the rebuild is …

Pritchard conceded, that the rebuild is going to take some time, and he’s right. There are no shortcuts, especially for a small-market franchise that isn’t a destination for big-time free agents. The Pacers aren’t asking anybody to be patient through some kind of midwestern version of The Process, but last year’s trade for Tyrese Haliburton and this week’s draft of Mathurin, Nembhard and Brown, are a hopeful beginning. “One of the things I’m absolutely convinced of, these three young men will be a part of this organization for a long time,” Pritchard said. “We wanted to get more athletic, more dynamic and bring some intelligence. All three demonstrated that athleticism and drive to win. The one common denominator is, they all love to play.”

Kendall Brown mistakenly included on early entry withdrawal list by NBA

Brown, who is projected to be a first-round pick, believes it is a mistake that he was included on the list.

When the NBA released the list of 112 early entry prospects that opted to withdraw from the draft on Thursday, Kendall Brown was among those named in the announcement.

But, the Baylor standout should not have been included on the list.

Brown, who is projected to be a first-round pick, declared for the draft in March and was expected to hire an agent and forgo his remaining collegiate eligibility. He did not announce prior to Wednesday’s deadline that he’d return to school, making his inclusion on the list released by the NBA rather surprising.

According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN, Brown did not withdraw from the draft and believes it is a mistake that he was included on the list. He still intends on being draft-eligible this year as the situation will likely be straightened out in the coming days.

Brown, who was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team, averaged 9.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and one steal in 34 games. He finished with three double-doubles and nearly registered a triple-double on Nov. 15 with 13 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.

He has shown that he can affect games on the defensive end and can guard nearly every position on the court, save for the 5. Brown projects to check a lot of boxes for teams at the next level and should hear his name called in the first round, as a result.

The NBA draft will take place on June 23.
