Charlie Brown Jr. scored 21 points on 10 field goal attempts and 7 free throws. He also registered 4 assists and 3 rebounds.

Here are some observations form the Sixers’ loss.

Observations from Trevelin Queen, Sixers beating up Nuggets in Vegas

Here are some observations from Trevelin Queen and the Philadelphia 76ers beating up on the Denver Nuggets in the Vegas summer league.

The Philadelphia 76ers took on the Denver Nuggets on Friday night in Las Vegas and the team got off to a fast start. Philadelphia got Isaiah Joe back in the lineup and they were able to use their hot start in order to knock off the summer Nuggets 97-71.

The Sixers got a spark from Joe who knocked down a couple of triples, but they were led in scoring by Grant Riller who scored 13 of his 18 in the first half. The Sixers led 22-9 after one quarter and then 48-27 at the half.

On top of Riller’s nice night, Philadelphia got an overall good night out of Trevelin Queen who stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Joe had 14 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists, Michael Foster Jr. had nine and eight boards, Justin Smith had 10 and eight rebounds, and Charlie Brown Jr. had eight and six rebounds. Aminu Mohammed also added 10 and six boards as well.

Here are the observations following the summer league win from Vegas:

Observations from Paul Reed, summer Sixers in SLC loss to Grizzlies

Here are observations from Paul Reed and the summer version of the Philadelphia 76ers in a Salt Lake City loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Philadelphia 76ers opened up the 2022 summer session in Salt Lake City on Tuesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies just looking to grow their youngsters. It’s the summer so now is the time to ensure that everybody is able to grow and continue to develop as young players.

The Sixers were able to get some good play from their summer league veterans in Paul Reed and Isaiah Joe, but the Sixers could not stop the Grizzlies from deep in a tough 103-99 loss to open up the summer. Memphis was 15-for-30 from deep. Philadelphia will have two more games in Utah before they head to Las Vegas.

Reed had 20 points, 15 rebounds, and four steals to lead Philadelphia, Joe had 19 points, Charles Bassey had seven points and six rebounds, and Jaden Springer had 15 points. Charlie Brown Jr. hopped off the bench and had 15 points and seven rebounds while Grant Riller added 12 points.

Here are some observations from the summer league opener:

Report: Sixers to waive Grant Riller, sign Myles Powell to two-way deal

The Philadelphia 76ers will waive Grant Riller and bring in Myles Powell on a two-way deal.

As the Philadelphia 76ers plan to move on with their season with a matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, the team did make a roster move on Saturday.

No, not that move. A minor move that gives the team some depth for the future.

The Sixers are planning to waive guard Grant Riller and sign former Seton Hall standout Myles Powell to a two-way deal. Riller was on a two-way, but he suffered a torn meniscus in the preseason and he never got a fair chance so the Sixers will move on from him.

Enter Powell who played all four years at Seton Hall averaging 21.0 points and 4.3 rebounds in his senior season with the Pirates. He spent the 2020-21 season and the beginning of the 2021-22 season with the Westchester Knicks of the G League. He averaged 17.8 points and shot 44.6% from deep on 6.4 attempts in the 2020-21 season with Westchester.

The Sixers will probably have Powell play with their G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, but having him on a two-way deal means the Sixers can have him up around the team and help continue to develop him for his future.

Doc Rivers gives injury update on Tobias Harris, other injured Sixers

Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers gives injury updates on Tobias Harris and the others.

The Philadelphia 76ers got back at it on Thursday as they continue to prepare for the 2021-22 season. They practiced at home before Friday’s preseason finale with the Detroit Pistons on the road, but they are still missing a few pieces to their team.

Tobias Harris continues to be held out of practice as he is still dealing with right knee soreness. He has only played in one of the three preseason games and he will miss Friday’s game as well, per coach Doc Rivers.

“He did everything today before practice, all the running and stuff, but nothing team-wise,” Rivers stated. “He won’t go to Detroit, I know that for sure.”

Rivers did add that Harris would absolutely go if this was a playoff game, but considering that it is just a meaningless preseason game, it makes sense to hold him out.

“It’s part of the plan,” Rivers stated. “If this was the playoffs, Tobias would be playing, let’s put it that way. We just felt like let’s get ahead of it. Make sure there’s no lingering problems.”

The Sixers open the season on Oct. 20 so Rivers just wants to be sure that everybody is good to go by that game against the New Orleans Pelicans on the road and getting everybody on the same page, especially Harris.

“Sitting with people who are smarter than me, we felt like building him up, we play Friday, we’ll have Saturday off, we’ll have three good days of practice, we’re hoping every single guy is on the practice floor by Sunday,” the coach added. “That’s what we’re looking for.”

Other than Harris, the Sixers will also be missing Shake Milton, Matisse Thybulle, and Grant Riller as well. Milton is dealing with a right ankle sprain, Thybulle has right shoulder soreness, and Riller is out with a torn meniscus in his left knee. Those guys will miss the game against the Pistons as well as they will not travel to the Motor City.

“Neither will Matisse, I think, or Shake or Grant,” Rivers said when asked about those three.

As for Tyrese Maxey, he missed Monday’s game due to left adductor tightness. He did practice on Thursday and is good to go for Friday.

“Tyrese is good to go,” beamed the coach. “He had a great practice today.”

Philadelphia will finish the preseason at Little Caesars Arena on Friday at 7 p.m. EDT.

Sixers coach Doc Rivers reacts to Grant Riller having to undergo surgery

Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers reacts to Grant Riller having to undergo surgery on his left knee.

The Philadelphia 76ers received some tough news on Wednesday as they found out that they would be down another point guard for a time. The Sixers found out that they will be missing Grant Riller for a couple of weeks.

Riller, who is on a two-way contract with the team, scored seven points on 3-for-5 shooting in Monday’s preseason loss to the Toronto Raptors. In the process, Riller suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee and he will undergo surgery. Per a team official, he will be re-evaluated in approximately two weeks.

“It’s just part of life and basketball,” coach Doc Rivers told reporters at practice. “He’s upbeat about it, but still he’s a young guy trying to make the team. He played well yesterday, or whenever we played and now he’s out so it’s just one of the tough blows you have, but we like him a lot I could tell you that.”

Riller is a second-year player out of the College of Charleston after spending the 2020-21 season with the Charlotte Hornets. He is another player who can put the ball on the floor a bit and be a guy who can initiate the offense so this is a bit of a blow for them in the early going.

Sixers 3 goals: Grant Riller needs to add consistent jumper, defense

New Philadelphia 76ers two-way guard Grant Riller should focus on adding a jumper as well as being a solid defender.

In this new series, Sixers Wire looks at the 17 players that comprise the Philadelphia 76ers roster — 15 under contract and the two players on two-way deals — and gives each three goals for the 2021-22 season.

The new season begins on Oct. 20, and training camp begins on Sept. 28. Now is the time to begin previewing the season and get everybody set for a new adventure of Sixers basketball.

This edition will focus on the team’s other two-way player, Grant Riller. After one season with the Charlotte Hornets following a productive college career at Charleston, the Sixers brought in Riller on their second two-way deal to add more depth at guard.

Here are Riller’s three goals for the 2021-22 season:

Sixers roster news: Team will sign guard Grant Riller to two-way deal

The Philadelphia 76ers will sign Grant Riller to a two-way contract.

The Philadelphia 76ers are still looking to fill out their roster before training camp begins in late September and they opened up a spot for a two-way deal on Wednesday when they waived third-year guard Rayjon Tucker.

They moved quickly to fill that spot by bringing in another point guard in the form of Grant Riller. Philadelphia will sign him to a two-way deal after he spent a season with the Charlotte Hornets in the 2020-21 season. He played in seven games for the franchise averaging 2.6 points and 0.4 assists in those games.

Riller is a guy who can shoot the ball a bit, he shot 35.6% from deep in college, and he showed off an ability to shoot a bit with the Hornets. He is a guy who will probably spend time in the G League, but the Sixers could use another ball-handler.

Riller is a guy the Sixers could develop and bring him along to help the team in the future. Philadelphia could always use another ball-handler next to Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid for the future.

2020 NBA Draft Big Board 5.0: Final update ranking Top 100 prospects

After numerous delays and postponements, front offices and draftniks have had more time to analyze the 2020 NBA draft than any previous year.

After numerous delays and postponements, front offices and draftniks have had more time to analyze the 2020 NBA draft than any previous year.

Originally scheduled for June, the ongoing pandemic pushed the big night back by five months. While this may cause some teams to overthink their decisions, it gave analysts plenty of time to study all of the top prospects eligible in this class.

This year, players had to participate in a mostly virtual pre-draft process. On the bright side, this meant that teams had the opportunity to interview more candidates than ever before.

However, the number of in-person visits were incredibly limited due to the restrictive parameters set by the league. Similarly, the NBA draft combine was conducted without the typical scrimmages where players can separate themselves from the others with impressive on-court performances.

Overall, the players that stood out in this pre-draft process had a different path to recognition than any other year. College basketball players did not have the opportunity to showcase themselves during March Madness. The nation’s top seniors did not get to participate in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.

As such, executives will rely mostly on the existing game footage as well as the intel they gathered during their conversations with the prospects. We also depended on similar strategies, getting access to one-on-one interviews with more than three dozen prospects and exchanging our thoughts with various scouts across the league.

This helped us put together our final big board, looking at the Top 100 players ranked on their potential to make a difference for teams in the NBA.

Relevant statistics were pulled from Synergy Sports Tech, Bart-Torvik, KenPom, Open Look Analytics and RealGM. Note that the age listed for each player references how old they will be on the night of the draft.
