Reggie Perry may not have a future with the Nets

The Brooklyn Nets rescinded their qualifying offer for Reggie Perry.

Nets sophomore big man Reggie Perry may not have a spot on this Nets roster for long. Brooklyn revoked their qualifying offer to the 21-year-old and this shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. After drafting Day’Ron Sharpe with the 29th pick in this year’s draft, the organization made their sights clear. The center position is up for grabs.

Perry performed better than average in his rookie year, where he would also spend time with the G League affiliate for the Nets, the Long Island Nets. For Long Island, the 21-year-old averaged 18.1 PPG and 8.9 RPG on 52% shooting. In limited minutes for Brooklyn, Perry averaged 3 PPG and 2 RPG. It is this reason why the former Bulldog spent most of his offseason preparing for this campaign in hopes of more minutes.

DeAndre Jordan has already secured his spot on this Nets roster moving forward, considering his relationship with the big three according to Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News. It’s only a matter of time before the truth gets revealed for Perry’s future.

Nets Summer League: Cameron Thomas hits clutch three in win over Bucks

The Brooklyn Nets won their first Summer League game, and Cam Thomas hit a huge shot in the closing minutes.

After falling short of a rally on Monday, the Nets needed to bounce back against the Milwaukee Bucks. Another loss would mean that their chances of advancing to the Summer League championship game would be over.

Right out the gates, Brooklyn showed that much-needed desperation on the defensive end, holding the Bucks to 0-of-6 from three at the end of the first period. This marked the end of a 16-point quarter for Milwaukee. In the second quarter though, the Bucks’ Summer League squad found new life.

They scored 27 points in the period with Jordan Nwora (14 PTS, 3 REBS) leading the way. It wasn’t enough to secure the lead though, as they trailed the Nets 43-48. Reggie Perry (11 PTS, 5 REBS) was the story heading into the half for Brooklyn.

The second half came down to who wanted it more. Every time when it seemed like the Bucks would get the lead, the Nets would answer right back. When the closing minutes finally approached, it took a clutch Cameron Thomas three to create breathing room for Brooklyn to close out the game, 97-91.

Although Thomas (22 PTS, 6-14 FG) will be remembered in this game for his high scoring output, Day’Ron Sharpe (11 PTS, 8 REBS) and David Duke Jr. (10 PTS, 9 REBS) will be remembered for their contributions in other aspects of the game. Rebounding in particular for Sharpe and orchestrating the pick and roll effectively for Duke.

Nets injury update: Kevin Durant, Nicolas Claxton, Reggie Perry unavailable vs. Pelicans

Kevin Durant, Nicolas Claxton and Reggie Perry join the unavailable list for Brooklyn’s game on Tuesday.

Kevin Durant, Nicolas Claxton and Reggie Perry now join the Nets’ unavailable list according to the Nets’ most recent status report, which is really starting to pile up after Brooklyn’s duel with Miami on Sunday.

Durant will continue to recover from his left thigh contusion. Claxton and Perry are now entering the NBA’s health and safety protocols.

The Nets are still without the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for February and March in James Harden. Durant’s presence since returning from his hamstring injury was supposed to make up for it with the Nets still trying to stay in contention for the first seed in the East. Now with this recent status report, it is not looking good at all for the Brooklyn Nets in the race for the top seed.

Anthony Edwards, Onyeka Okongwu among rookies to sign with Adidas

The No. 1 overall pick headlines the group of rookies from the 2020 NBA draft class to sign endorsement deals with Adidas.

No. 1 overall pick Anthony Edwards headlines the group of rookies from the 2020 NBA draft class to sign endorsement contracts with Adidas, according to Nick DePaula of ESPN.

In addition to Edwards, Atlanta Hawks forward Onyeka Okongwu, Milwaukee Bucks forward Jordan Nwora, Chicago Bulls guard Devon Dotson and Brooklyn Nets forward Reggie Perry will also join Adidas this season.

Edwards was seen at one point during the preseason wearing Nike, but eventually made the switch over to Adidas while the rest of the rookies have each been seen wearing the three stripes throughout the season.

The group of rookies join a talented roster of players at Adidas, featuring the likes of James Harden, Damian Lillard, Derrick Rose and Donovan Mitchell among others.

The news of signings come amidst a slow period for endorsement deals this year, especially among the rookie class. Apparel companies are said to be scaling things back a bit this year due to a variety of factors, most notably because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Outside of Edwards and Okongwu signing with Adidas, LaMelo Ball is the only other top-five pick to have inked an endorsement deal. Ball signed with PUMA over the offseason, joining the likes of Deandre Ayton, Marvin Bagley III and Kyle Kuzma among others.

Nets transfer Reggie Perry to Long Island

Reggie Perry finally has a chance to get some consistent playing time as he heads down to the G League.

The G League season is set to start on Feb. 10, and the Brooklyn Nets’ G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, will be among the 18 teams participating the season — which will be hosted in the Disney bubble. Among the players joining Long Island ahead of the start of their season is Nets rookie two-way forward Reggie Perry after Brooklyn assigned him to their G League squad on Thursday.

Perry has appeared in 14 games for the Nets, receiving far more minutes after Jarrett Allen was sent to Cleveland as part of the James Harden trade. Tuesday’s win over the Los Angeles Clippers was the first one Perry has not played in since Allen joined the Cavaliers.

In 14 games this season, the 2020 second-round draft pick is averaging 3.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while logging 10.5 minutes a night. He has eclipsed the double-digit mark twice, scoring 11 against the New York Knicks on Jan. 13 and 10 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, en route to his first double double (10 rebounds) at the NBA level.

Here is the projected rotation for the Nets after trading for James Harden

The Brooklyn Nets made an earth-shattering move, adding James Harden to a roster that already had superstars Kevin Durant and James Harden.

The Brooklyn Nets made an earth-shattering move, adding James Harden to a roster that already had superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

Note that the Nets still have three roster spots available for additional moves, so they might not be done making acquisitions quite yet. ESPN’s Bobby Marks reported that Brooklyn can offer the taxpayer midlevel exception ($5.7M) and the minimum exception.

He also speculated that they could receive a disabled player exception ($5.7M) for the injury suffered by Spencer Dinwiddie, who is out for the remainder of the season with a partially torn ACL.

Here is how the roster looks, as it stands right now, to get a better idea of what holes must be filled.

Reggie Perry converted to two-way contract, Chris Chiozza waived

The Brooklyn Nets just signed Elie Okobo and Paul Eboua and they’re both already gone, having been waived Saturday.

For the second time this offseason, the Brooklyn Nets waived a played the day after he inked a deal with the team. Forward Paul Eboua was waived on Saturday, along with guard Elie Okobo. But, their departures came before Nets fans had a chance to get to know either player — unlike Chris Chiozza’s. The point guard was also waived Saturday after spending the majority of 2019-20 with the Nets, playing quite a bit for the team in the bubble and receiving a qualifying offer from Brooklyn before this season’s training camp.

As the Nets widdled their roster down to 17 players, Brooklyn elected to turn rookie Reggie Perry’s contract into a two-way deal. The 57th overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft has received praise from the like of DeAndre Jordan and Jeff Green, along with head coach Steve Nash after he appeared in the Nets’ preseason wins over the Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics.

Reggie Perry a steal for Nets’ at No. 57

The Brooklyn Nets now have a pair of young big men who can learn from their veteran bigs — as well as NBA legend Amar’e Stoudemire.

The two co-SEC 2019-20 Players of the Year were selected in this year’s NBA draft, and both will call New York their home to start their pro careers.

Although he was projected to go in the second round in most mock drafts, Kentucky guard Immanuel Quickley — who the Nets met with ahead of the draft — was taken No. 25 overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder. The guard was then traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves and again to the New York Knicks. (Clearly, the Brooklyn Nets weren’t the only ones that had a crazy draft night.)

Mississippi State’s Reggie Perry, however, didn’t trend in the same direction — which was totally fine with Sean Marks. The Nets were able to scoop him up in the three-way trade with the Clippers and Pistons after he slipped to Los Angeles at No. 57.

“He’s a big man out there with a forceful nature and step out on the floor, as well as play in the post,” Brooklyn’s general manager told reporters on a Zoom call, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post. “But we had him much higher on our board. I look forward to seeing him develop, I look forward to seeing him in camp and going from there.”

While the Nets seem set down low between Jarrett Allen and DeAndre Jordan, Brooklyn now has a pair of young bigs in Perry and Nic Claxton who could be part of the equation in time.

Doesn’t hurt the Nets to add a big at that stage in the draft. You’re likely not getting a player who’s going to make an impact this season. Plus, why not take advantage of having Amar’e Stoudemire on staff? Isn’t he in Brooklyn to help their bigs That’s why he’s in Brooklyn right? To He can help Perry and Claxton bring their game to another level.

Report: Nets receive Reggie Perry in exchange for No. 55 pick Jay Scrubb

Jay Scrubb’s Brooklyn Nets career did not last long. He’s on his way out westward.

Jay Scrubb is the newest member of the Nets after Brooklyn selected the 6-foot-6 guard out of John A. Logan College with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft.

But Scrubb’s Nets career ended almost as quickly as it started, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Scrubb is on his way to Los Angeles to join the Clippers franchise. Meanwhile, Reggie Perry, the No. 57 pick in the 2020 NBA draft, is now a member of the Nets organization.

A 2019-20 All-SEC selection as a sophomore after receiving SEC All-Freshman honors the year before, Perry is a 6-foot-10 forward out of Mississippi State.

Perry averaged eight points and eight rebounds per game throughout his college career, scoring primarily from inside the arc.

With the Nets moving the No. 19 pick in the 2020 NBA draft (Villanova forward Saddiq Bey) in order to acquire shooting guard Landry Shamet from the Los Angeles Clippers in a three-way deal with the Detroit Pistons, Perry is the only draftee Brooklyn selected this year.

2020 NBA Draft Big Board 5.0: Final update ranking Top 100 prospects

After numerous delays and postponements, front offices and draftniks have had more time to analyze the 2020 NBA draft than any previous year.

After numerous delays and postponements, front offices and draftniks have had more time to analyze the 2020 NBA draft than any previous year.

Originally scheduled for June, the ongoing pandemic pushed the big night back by five months. While this may cause some teams to overthink their decisions, it gave analysts plenty of time to study all of the top prospects eligible in this class.

This year, players had to participate in a mostly virtual pre-draft process. On the bright side, this meant that teams had the opportunity to interview more candidates than ever before.

However, the number of in-person visits were incredibly limited due to the restrictive parameters set by the league. Similarly, the NBA draft combine was conducted without the typical scrimmages where players can separate themselves from the others with impressive on-court performances.

Overall, the players that stood out in this pre-draft process had a different path to recognition than any other year. College basketball players did not have the opportunity to showcase themselves during March Madness. The nation’s top seniors did not get to participate in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.

As such, executives will rely mostly on the existing game footage as well as the intel they gathered during their conversations with the prospects. We also depended on similar strategies, getting access to one-on-one interviews with more than three dozen prospects and exchanging our thoughts with various scouts across the league.

This helped us put together our final big board, looking at the Top 100 players ranked on their potential to make a difference for teams in the NBA.

Relevant statistics were pulled from Synergy Sports Tech, Bart-Torvik, KenPom, Open Look Analytics and RealGM. Note that the age listed for each player references how old they will be on the night of the draft.
