PFF: Veteran DL earned Chiefs’ highest grade in Week 10 win over Broncos

According to Pro Football Focus, veteran DL Chris Jones was the #Chiefs’ highest graded player in Kansas City’s Week 10 win over the #Broncos.

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a thrilling win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday that saw the defending Super Bowl champions remain undefeated heading onto their Week 11 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

While the Chiefs’ offense struggled all game, gaining just over 300 yards and only one touchdown, Kansas City’s defense was absolutely dominant, as it has been all season, allowing only 260 yards and two touchdowns.

On Monday, the experts at Pro Football Focus released their player grades for the Chiefs’ latest win. In their estimation, veteran defensive lineman Chris Jones was Kansas City’s top performer, followed by safety Justin Reid and linebacker Drue Tranquill.

Though the Chiefs are riding high after their win over Denver, Kansas City won’t have any time to celebrate with their showdown against the Bills on the horizon.

Expect the Chiefs to continue leaning in the excellent performances of players like Jones, Reid, and Tranquill as they look to keep their perfect season alive for another week.

Final score: Chiefs sink Buccaneers 30-24 in overtime on ‘Monday Night Football’

The Kansas City #Chiefs defeated the Tampa Bay #Buccaneers 30-24 in overtime on “Monday Night Football.”

The Kansas City Chiefs advanced their record to 8-0 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Monday Night Football” in Week 9, winning the Super Bowl LV rematch 30-24 in overtime.

The Chiefs trailed Tampa Bay 10-17 heading into the fourth quarter but mounted a late-game comeback led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes to remain undefeated heading into Week 10.

Mahomes threw for 291 yards, tossed three touchdown passes, and completed 34 of his 44 attempts. Star tight end Travis Kelce led Kansas City in receiving yards, but it was newly-acquired wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins who stole the show with two touchdown catches.

For their part, Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers put up a great fight, but couldn’t quite break through to spoil the Chiefs’ perfect season.

Defensively, Kansas City was led by linebacker Drue Tranquill, who combined for seven tackles and was credited with half a sack.

The Chiefs are set to face the Denver Broncos in Week 10 with a chance to advance to 9-0.

PFF: Fan-favorite LB earned Chiefs’ highest grade in Week 8 win vs. Raiders

According to Pro Football Focus, veteran LB Drue Tranquill was the #Chiefs’ highest-graded player in Kansas City’s Week 8 win over the Las Vegas #Raiders.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ undefeated season remains intact after the defending Super Bowl champions defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 27-20 on Sunday.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense put together a convincing performance, totaling over 300 yards and dominating the time of possession, which kept Gardner Minshew and the Raiders’ offense off the field.

However, it was Kansas City’s defense that stole the show in the victory, and the performance of one Chiefs linebacker in particular caught the attention of the experts at Pro Football Focus.

On Monday, PFF released its list of the highest-graded players from the Chiefs’ win over Las Vegas, and veteran Drue Tranquill led Kansas City with a mark of 85.3, which barely beat out Mahomes.

The Chiefs’ addition of pass rusher Joshua Uche in a trade with the New England Patriots on Monday is sure to provide a shot in the arm for Tranquill and Kansas City’s already dominant defense.

Chiefs vs. Raiders: LB Drue Tranquill recovers fumble in fourth quarter

Check out this video of #Chiefs LB Drue Tranquill recovering a fumble against the #Raiders in Week 8.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a seven-point lead over the Las Vegas Raiders in the fourth quarter of an AFC West showdown in Week 8.

Though Kansas City is undefeated in the regular season, the Chiefs have had their hands full against Las Vegas, which has put up a good fight against the defending Super Bowl champions through three quarters and change.

The Raiders had a chance to tie the game with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter but were stymied by Kansas City’s outstanding defense when veteran lineman Mike Pennel forced a fumble that was recovered by star linebacker Drue Tranquill.

Check out this video of the crucial turnover, which was posted to Twitter by the Chiefs’ official account:

This game has been too close for comfort for fans in Kansas City, but the potentially game-saving turnover forced by Pennel and Tranquill may have saved the Chiefs’ perfect season.

Chiefs LB reacts to surprising results in ‘NFL 100’ top 5

#Chiefs LB Drue Tranquill wasn’t pleased that Patrick Mahomes fell to the No. 4 spot on the ‘NFL 100’ list ahead of the 2024 season.

The Kansas City Chiefs landed three players in the top ten of the ‘NFL 100’ list ahead of the 2024 season, but many fans who watched the show’s finale questioned if the league’s players made the right decision for the No. 1 spot.

Veteran linebacker Drue Tranquill was particularly bothered when he found out that Patrick Mahomes didn’t top the list, and made his voice heard when the results were released on Friday evening.

Tranquill, who joined the Chiefs as a free agent in 2023, has cemented himself as a key contributor in Steve Spagnuolo’s defense, and didn’t mince words when letting his fans know exactly what he thought about this year’s ‘NFL 100’ list:

Though a higher ranking on the ‘NFL 100′ list wouldn’t help Mahomes and Tranquill bring a third-consecutive championship to Kansas City this season, the perceived disrespect for the reigning Super Bowl MVP may be what the Chiefs’ players need to motivate them through the rest of training camp.

WATCH: Things get tense between Chiefs teammates at Friday practice

Two #Chiefs had a verbal exchange that seemed to get heated during training camp practice on Friday.

The Kansas City Chiefs are a passionate bunch, and with a Super Bowl three-peat on the line this season, the team’s players are pushing each other to be great heading into their 2024 campaign.

During Kansas City’s practice session on Friday, running back Isiah Pacheco and linebacker Drue Tranquill exchanged what appeared to be some heated words after a one-on-one matchup in blocking drills.

Pacheco seemed to believe that he won his rep against Tranquill, and chirped at the veteran linebacker after the whistle blew.

Check out this video of the incident, which was posted to Twitter by KC Sports Network:

Though there won’t be any bad blood between Pacheco and Tranquill at the end of practice, this display of passion by the pair demonstrates just how hard Chiefs players are working at training camp.

Expect to see more fireworks from members of Kansas City’s roster ahead of the Chiefs’ first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 10.

Two Notre Dame players named to award watch lists

Think either player can win?

With the 2024 college football season approaching, we’ll start to see more players being named to award watch lists. The players obviously have a long to way to go before they actually win those, but it’s nice for them to be honored like this anyway.

To that end, two Notre Dame players have been named to different award watch lists. That should be a good sign of things to come for the Irish in this regard.

[autotag]Jayden Harrison[/autotag], who’s both a receiver and return specialist for the Irish, is on the Paul Hornung Award Watch List. This award, named for the Notre Dame legend, is presented to the most versatile player in college football. Ironically, no Irish player has won this award since it first was given out in 2010.

Linebacker [autotag]Jack Kiser[/autotag] has made the watch list for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy, which recognizes the player who best combines athletic and academic excellence with community service. Former Irish linebacker [autotag]Drue Tranquill[/autotag] won this award in 2018.

Chiefs LB Drue Tranquill talks about competitive battles with Isiah Pacheco in practice

Kansas City #Chiefs LB Drue Tranquill reveals competitive battles with Isiah Pacheco in practice | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco is one of the hardest running backs in the NFL to bring down, and he brings that mindset to training camp, too.

Just ask Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill, who faces Pacheco daily during camp.

Tranquill spoke with reporters after practice on Sunday, discussing his practice battles with Pacheco.

“I think it does some chemicals in your body. It gives you a little more adrenaline and a little more dopamine whenever you’re chatting, and talking with somebody helps you forget how tired you are. … But man, is he a ball of energy for our team.” said Tranquill. “He does a lot for this team, and that goes on behind the scenes vocally. When you have a guy that runs as hard as he does and brings it week in and week out, it makes you puff your shoulders up a little bit and get ready for it on the defensive side. We’re thankful to have Pacheco for sure.”

Tranquill is expected to be a starter this season following the departure of linebacker Willie Gay Jr. during the offseason. He appreciates the competition from a running back of Pacheco’s caliber daily at practice.

“I’m just trying to bring him in,” said Tranquill. “I know he’s going to be low in the hole, and I gotta be able to meet him there and knock him back.”

Pacheco runs with a signature intensity, and it appears he’s providing the same positivity to the defense at training camp.

Chiefs DB Justin Reid earns crown as the NFL’s top chess player

Kansas City Chiefs safety Justin Reid became a chess champion this week after being crowned the winner of BlitzChamps III, defeating Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray 2-0 in the grand final of an eight-player double-elimination bracket.

The annual event ‘BlitzChamps’ is a chess tournament series in which NFL players compete against each other to see who is the best on the chessboard. Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill was the winner of BlitzChamps II.

Reid’s victory marked the second year in a row that a Chiefs player took home the top spot. The two-time Super Bowl Champion earned $30,000 for his charity, outlasting seven other players.

BlitzChamps III was broadcast live from the NFL studio, which was transformed to Chess.com green for the event.

“I’m a competitive guy, but it’s not always about winning,” said Reid, speaking to the broadcast commentary team following the win. “This is awesome, but I just love getting better, so I’ll continue to challenge myself.”

Reid took advantage of his chess opponents’ mistakes to win the title, similar to his strategy of patrolling the Chief’s secondary.

2024 NFL draft: Chargers awarded one compensatory pick

The Chargers will receive a seventh-round comp pick for their loss of Drue Tranquill.

The Chargers will have an extra pick in the NFL draft.

Los Angeles will receive a seventh-round comp pick for their loss of linebacker Drue Tranquill, who signed with the Chiefs last offseason.

Tranquill appeared in 16 games (eight starts), amassing 78 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass deflected.

For his efforts, Tranquill recently re-signed with Kansas City on a three-year, $19 million deal with $13 million guaranteed.

Compensatory picks are awarded to teams who lose out on significant players in free agency and are awarded to those teams the next year.

The pick given to teams is calculated using a formula that includes several qualifiers, including the average per year (APY) of a contract signed, the percentage of snaps a player plays, and their awards and accolades for their performance, such as the AP All-Pro list or PFWA’s list.

The Chargers currently have eight picks for April’s draft.
