Eagles’ biggest winners from NFL raising the 2024 salary cap to $255.4M

Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher is the biggest winner from the NFL setting the 2024 salary cap at $255 million.

The NFL announced a massive $30.6 million salary increase from 2023, proving how quickly the league has risen. It’s a little under the original salary cap set in 1994 of $34.6 million.

The 2024 cap is officially $255 million, and where things currently stand, Philadelphia is expected to have roughly $32,163,513 available, according to Over The Cap.

The Birds are set to have 20 pending free agents, and with another likely retool schedule on defense, the organization could conjure up a scheme for more flexibility.

The Eagles can easily create $35.4 million in cap space by making these five moves.

The cap increase could allow Howie Roseman to make several moves, and we’re looking at five Eagles who’ll benefit the most from the rise.

Eagles salary cap: Positional breakdowns and financial outlook ahead of NFL free agency

Here’s an early look at the Philadelphia Eagles’ salary cap, positional breakdowns, and financial outlook ahead of 2024 NFL free agency

The Eagles are set for an interesting retool on defense that’ll include a new defensive coordinator and potentially seven new starters in critical positions.

Philadelphia will enter the offseason with a disgruntled Haason Reddick, followed by decisions on 20 pending free agents, including D’Andre Swift, Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, Braden Mann, Quez Watkins, and others.

The Eagles currently have about $19 million in salary cap space and the No. 22 overall pick in April’s NFL draft.

Ranking 2024’s top 12 free-agent running backs

Top 12 running backs of the 2024 offseason

Given what they gave Miles Sanders last year, the Carolina Panthers probably won’t be sifting through the open market for a big-name running back this spring.

10 Eagles who exceeded expectations during 2023 NFL season

We’re looking at ten Philadelphia Eagles who exceeded expectations during the 2023 NFL season

The Eagles are set for wholesale changes after finishing the season 1-6 after a 10-1 start.

The first domino to fall is All-Pro center Jason Kelce, 36, who reportedly told his teammates he is retiring after 13 seasons with the Eagles but may now be having a change of heart.

Brandon Graham, who turns 36 in April, says he wants to return to the Eagles for one more final season, his 15th, and he’s one of the few guys on the roster deserving of writing his final script.

According to Over The Cap, Philadelphia has 20+ free agents, and we’re looking at the ten players who exceeded expectations this season.

Giants named a potential landing spot for RB D’Andre Swift

If the New York Giants are unable to retain RB Saquon Barkley, Pro Football Focus lists them as a potential destination for RB D’Andre Swift.

After a season full of disappointments, the New York Giants’ offseason has already seen a flurry of activity. That activity is not likely to slow down until the draft is over at the end of April.

From coaching staff to player personnel, the Giants have some big decisions to make. One of the biggest decisions surrounds the running back position.

Saquon Barkley played last season on a modified version of the franchise tag. It was clear he wanted to stay in New York and the Giants wanted to keep him, but the entire situation was odd.

Still, Barkley suited up in blue this past season and played well considering what he had to work with. Now the season is over, though, and Barkley is set to become a free agent.

If the two sides can’t reach an agreement and Barkley tests the free agency waters, the Giants will have a gaping hole to fill. Pro Football Focus suggests Philadelphia Eagles running back D’Andre Swift as a potential replacement, and it’s not a bad plan.

If the Giants elect to move on from Saquon Barkley, they could pivot to another former top draft pick who played in their division the past year. Swift showed growth in 2023, hitting the designed hole and not trying to bounce outside too often — an area Barkley has similarly improved in over the years — and offers pass-catching ability, as well.

Swift was fifth in rushing yards in the NFL in 2023. Drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2020 and traded to the Eagles in 2023, Swift is a similar back to Barkley in many ways, as PFF notes.

Should Barkley depart New York, Swift is certainly a solid option to replace him. The two sides have less than 30 days to decide which direction they will go.
