WATCH: Jalen Hurts drops a wide open pass on ‘Philly Special’ during Pro Bowl Games

Twitter reacted to Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts dropping a wide open pass on a trick play, Philly Special attempt during the Pro Bowl games

In his defense, Hurts has a tape and a small brace on his injured middle finger, but he’s still going to hear the boos from this dropped pass during the Pro Bowl games.

Hurts got the start at quarterback during the Flag Football contest, and during the NFC team’s second possession, the Eagles All-Pro signal-caller dropped a ‘Philly Special’ attempt that ended badly.

Hurts nearly connected on the Philly Special 6 years ago to the day Nick Foles completed it to help the Eagles win their 1st Super Bowl over the Patriots.

Highlights from Day 1 of the Pro Bowl Games skills competitions

We’re looking at notes and highlights from Day 1 of the NFL’s Pro Bowl Skills competition

With the help of Peyton (Omaha Production) and Eli Manning, the Pro Bowl has been retooled and made kid friendly over the past two years.

Now called the Pro Bowl Games, the NFL’s all-star event has transitioned to a flag football format and also includes several skills competitions.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, cornerback Darius Slay, center Jason Kelce, running back D’Andre Swift and linebacker Haason Reddick participated in various events on night one.

The skills competitions kicked off on Thursday with five events, and more events will be held on Sunday leading into the flag football game (check out the full schedule of events for the Pro Bowl Games).

Here are all the highlights from the first round of skills competitions via the NFL.

Chargers EDGE Khalil Mack opts out of Pro Bowl games

Keenan Allen is still set to participate.

Khalil Mack was among the two Chargers players who were voted onto the 2024 Pro Bowl team to represent the AFC. However, Mack won’t be participating in the annual games this weekend.

Mack decided to opt out and was replaced by Jets edge defender Jermaine Johnson.

The reason why Mack won’t be participating remains to be seen. His fellow teammate Keenan Allen, the other Charger to make it, will participate in the festivities.

Mack had one of the best years of his career this past season. He set a career-high in sacks for a season with 17 and became the 43rd player in NFL history to hit the 100-sack mark.

The 2024 Pro Bowl Games will include several competitions, including a flag football game on Feb. 4.

The games will be held in Orlando, FL, at Camping World Stadium.

2024 Pro Bowl roster: Texans DE Will Anderson replaces injured Raiders DE Maxx Crosby

Texans DE Will Anderson replaces injured Maxx Crosby on Pro Bowl roster

Three weeks ago, Maxx Crosby was named to his third straight Pro Bowl. The first of those Pro Bowls was the last time the NFL actually held a contact football game. And Crosby won Defensive MVP. So, clearly Crosby knows just one speed, and doesn’t like to miss opportunities to suit up.

This time, however, the choice wasn’t really in his hands. Crosby dealt with a serious knee injury for last half of the season as well as a thumb injury. Those two injuries required immediate attention, so last week, he got the knee surgery done and the thumb surgery happened this week.

With Crosby laid up and preparing for next season, his part in the Pro Bowl games needed to be replaced.

The lucky recipient is Texans’ DE Will Anderson.

Anderson won the PFWA Rookie of the Year recently after a season in which he put up seven sacks, 22 QB hits, 10 tackles for loss, and 45 combined tackles.

Twitter reacts to Chargers’ 2024 Pro Bowl selections, snubs

Keenan Allen and Khalil Made made the 2024 Pro Bowl, but many felt that Cameron Dicker was snubbed.

Two members of the Chargers were rewarded for their hard work, as Khalil Mack and Keenan Allen were selected to the 2024 Pro Bowl.

However, many felt Cameron Dicker was snubbed.

Here is how the general population reacted after the rosters were unveiled:

2024 NFL Pro Bowl roster: Raiders DE Maxx Crosby, P AJ Cole named starters

Raiders DE Maxx Crosby, P AJ Cole named to 2024 Pro Bowl roster

The Raiders top two players and top vote-getters have taken their rightful place on this year’s Pro Bowl roster.

DE Maxx Crosby and P AJ Cole have both been named Pro Bowl starters.

Crosby makes his third straight trip to the Pro Bowl after leading the league in tackles for loss (21), leading all EDGE players in combined tackles (88) and tying for the second most pressures (86) in the AFC. He also put up 13.5 sacks and 27 QB hits — both top five in the AFC.

Myles Garrett (Browns) and Trey Hendrickson (Bengals) were the other DE’s to make it for the AFC.

TJ Watt (Steelers), Khalil Mack (Chargers), and Josh Allen (Jaguars) made the roster as outside linebackers.

Cole is also headed to his third straight Pro Bowl. On 71 punts this season, his 50 yards per punt and 44.8 net yards per punt are both NFL bests for players with at least 55 punts. And Cole leads the league in punts inside the 20 (33) among those with fewer than 80 punts.

Bryan Anger (Cowboys) made the roster for the NFC.

Both Crosby and Cole both finished second in AFC Pro Bowl voting.

3 Raiders finish in Top 10 at position as NFL Pro Bowl rosters announced tonight

3 Raiders finish in Top 10 at position as NFL Pro Bowl rosters announced tonight

At 5pm tonight (8pm ET) the NFL will announce the Pro Bowl rosters. Though, they don’t seem to put too much stock into fan voting, there were a few Raiders who finished among the top ten at their position.

Here they are in order of their landing spot in the voting both among the NFL and AFC:

Pos Player NFL AFC
DE Maxx Crosby 5 2
P AJ Cole 3 2
RB Josh Jacobs 10 6

The only AFC defensive end who got more votes than Maxx Crosby was Cleveland’s Myles Garrett.

Likewise, only one AFC punter got more votes than AJ Cole. That’s Jets’ punter Thomas Morstead.

The thing is, both Crosby and Cole have the player ahead of them in AFC voting beat in several statistical categories.

Garrett has only a half sack more (14) than Crosby (13.5) and three more QB hits (30). While Crosby leads the league in tackles for loss (21) and leads all edge rushers in combined tackles (88) — more than TWICE as many as Garrett (42). The two are tied for second in the AFC with 86 pressures. Only Jacksonville’s Josh Allen (88) has more.

Cole’s 50 yards per punt and 44.8 net yards per punt are both NFL bests for players with at least 55 punts and both better than Morstead’s numbers. And Cole leads the league in punts inside the 20 (33) among those with fewer than 80 punts. Morstead has the same number of punts inside the 20 despite getting 21 more opportunities than Cole (71).

Clearly, both Crosby and Cole deserve to start in the Pro Bowl at their respective positions.

Jacobs is having a down season and seems to be getting residual votes from having won the rushing title last season.

3 Chargers who deserve to make the 2024 NFL Pro Bowl

A few Chargers players are worthy of national recognition.

Pro Bowl voting season ends on December 26th, 2023, and while the Chargers have had an unfortunate season of difficult injuries and much-needed staffing changes, there have been several standout players who have shone through the adversity.

Here are three Chargers players who should go to the 2024 Pro Bowl.

Cameron Dicker

Dicker has been automatic since entering the league as an undrafted rookie in 2022. After kicking a game-winning field goal for the Eagles while filling in for injured kicker Jake Elliot, Dicker found himself on the Chargers and finished out his season on the active roster with 100% extra points made and a field goal percentage of 95%. In 2023, Dicker continues to impress, with 100% extra points made and a field goal percentage of 96% through Week 16. In an unfortunate – but albeit fun – loss to the Bills on Dec. 23rd, Dicker made 5 of 5 field goals with a long of 53 yards. It’s been a rough special teams history for the Chargers, and it’s been a great change of pace for the team to have such a solid corps and an automatic kicker.

Khalil Mack

Mack has had an unbelievable season for the Chargers. After the dreadful loss to the Jaguars in the wild-card round of last year’s playoffs, Mack considered retiring. But thank goodness he didn’t. He has been putting up sacks and pressures like he never has before, touting career-high numbers in almost every category and landing 4th in the league in sacks and 1st in forced fumbles. Mack’s elite season has allowed the Chargers to stay in many games that would have otherwise been lost. It goes to show that greatness is often born through adversity – something that many players on this team have experienced themselves, Mack among them. This off-season will be incredibly interesting for the Chargers front office, with the hiring of a new head coach and a new general manager. He is a player that fans will want to keep their eye on since his contract comes with a massive 2024 cap hit. Players will have to be cut, and before this season, he was on the list of potential losses, but after this All-Pro level season – Mack should not be one of them.

Keenan Allen

Allen is currently injured, this has no impact on whether or not he deserves a Pro Bowl vote this season – which he most definitely does. Up until his untimely injury (and quarterback Justin Herbert’s), Allen was on pace to have a career year at the age of 32. Even after missing the Bills game in Week 16, he is still sitting at 2nd in the league for receptions, 7th in yards, and 10th in touchdowns. He has been the make-or-break player in multiple games all year – and the Herbert-to-Allen connection is explosive. Since entering the league, Allen has been a top route runner and continues to make incredible plays and get separation where other wide receivers would normally struggle. This has been the key to an otherwise struggling Chargers offense all year and was sorely missed during the Bills game. Hopefully, Allen can get back on the field and pad those stats to still hit personal records – after all, he only needs another 150 yards and a touchdown to tie his 2013 career-best.

The 2024 Pro Bowl Games kick off on February 2nd.
