Where’s Georgia football in Paul Finebaum’s new top-six?

Where did Paul Finebaum rank Georgia football after beating Auburn. What about Alabama?

Following Saturday’s action, the SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum revealed his top new top-six teams in college football.

Last week, Finebaum had Georgia at No. 5 after beating Missouri, while Alabama was sitting one spot ahead at No. 4.

On Sunday, however, taking into consideration Georgia’s road win over Auburn and the loss of Tua Tagovailoa at Alabama, Finebaum moved the Bulldogs to No. 4 and dropped Alabama to No. 6.

Minnesota also dropped out after losing to Iowa and was replaced by Oregon.

Florida 23, Missouri 6

It wasn’t anything pretty, and the Gators didn’t get the Georgia loss they needed to take the SEC East, but it was still a strong road win by double-digits. Kyle Trask threw for 282 yards and two scores, the offense was able to open it up a bit in the third quarter, and it was the win needed to keep hope alive for a New Year’s Six bowl game.

Missouri can’t score touchdowns. It managed two field goals, making it the second straight game without a touchdown and with just 27 points over the last four games. The passing game didn’t go anywhere, the running game finished with 52 yards, and the O wasted a strong effort from the D.

The Tigers aren’t going bowling no matter what – thanks to NCAA violations – but it would nice to come up with a winning season. They get Tennessee up next before closing out at Arkansas.

Florida gets a week off before facing Florida State. The Sugar Bowl might be out with LSU, Alabama and Georgia all in the mix for the CFP and the top SEC bowl spots, but Orange is a possibility with a convincing win against the Noles and a 10-2 record.

Alabama 38, Mississippi State 7

Of course the season-ending injury to Tua Tagovailoa overshadowed everything else – a whole lot more on that coming over the next few days – but Mac Jones stepped in and was fine. The Tide only scored three points in the second half, but Jones hit 7-of-11 passes for 94 yards, the defense was great, and the shell-shocked team got through the rest of the game and got out. It was still a 31-point win on the road, even after all of that.

Najee Harris has picked a fantastic time to become amazing. He ran for 88 yards and three scores – and caught 51 yards worth of passes with a. score –  the offensive line blasted away, and the receiving corps was its typical fantastic self. Everything was great except for that, and …

Tagovailoa’s injury also pushed out of the spotlight a leg injury to DT Raekwon Davis. The D was just fine against the Bulldogs, but Davis the guy the line couldn’t afford to lose.

Mississippi State was able to run for just enough big dashes to average over five yards per carry. After a good early scoring drive, though, that was it. Tommy Stevens threw for 82 yards and a score, and he tore off a 46-yard run, but the O didn’t do much of anything with its 270 yards.

Alabama got a week against Arkansas to get Mac Jones up to speed in case he was needed against LSU. Now he gets a practice week against Western Carolina to get ready for the trip to Auburn. All is hardly lost in the CFP race – blow out the Tigers, and everything will be still on the table.

At 4-6, Mississippi State has to beat Abilene Christian and Ole Miss to get to six wins and bowl eligibility.

Oklahoma seems to desperately need one of Oregon or Utah to lose before the Pac-12 Championship and then to win that conference title game if they’re going to have much of a chance at one of the four playoff spots.

No matter if your team won or lost on Saturday, it was another fall afternoon that further-proved why college football is undefeated as a whole.  It has flaws like anything else but the most exciting regular season in all of sports lived up to the hype yet again with crazy performances, incredible comebacks and all-time showings of sportsmanship alike.

Watch: Chase Claypool’s Huge Day in Numbers vs. Navy

The four touchdowns on the day brought Claypool’s career total at Notre Dame to 15, which means his four today accounted for 26.6% of his career scores.  His season total also jumped from five to nine (44.4% total).

 

Chase Claypool had a career afternoon at Notre Dame Stadium, going for 117 yards receiving on seven receptions, four of which resulted in touchdowns.

It capped off a big week for Claypool who on Thursday accepted an invitation to participate in January’s Senior Bowl in preparation for the NFL Draft.

He spent Saturday having his best game to date in a Notre Dame uniform.  A few notes about what No. 83 accomplished this afternoon:

Claypool’s four touchdown receptions tie Maurice Stovall for the most-ever in a single game by a Notre Dame receiver.  Stovall accomplished his feat in a 49-23 win over BYU on October 22, 2005.

The four touchdowns on the day brought Claypool’s career total at Notre Dame to 15, which means his four today accounted for 26.6% of his career scores.  His season total also jumped from five to nine (44.4% total).

Claypool’s 47 yard touchdown reception from Ian Book that made the game 14-0 in Notre Dame’s favor was the longest reception his career.

Claypool’s dominating performance also earned him the game-ball from his head coach.

Chase Claypool and the rest of the senior class will play their final game at Notre Dame Stadium next Saturday when they welcome Boston College to town.  The 8-2 Fighting Irish and 5-5 Boston College Eagles will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. ET next Saturday and like all home games, can be seen on NBC.

2020 NFL mock draft: How Tua Tagovailoa’s injury impacts 1st round

See how the season-ending injury to Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa could impact the first round of the 2020 NFL draft

Both college football and the NFL will feel the seismic impact of the season-ending injury suffered Saturday by Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

The Crimson Tide’s top prospect is out for the rest of the 2019 college football season, but it remains to be seen whether or not his injury will be career-threatening.

A candidate for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, Tagovailoa’s draft stock is now in flux, as his long-term durability could be in question. If he ends up leaving school after this injury-shortened season, medical checks at the NFL Scouting Combine will be key to determining his eventual draft slot.

Watch as Texas Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger gives his team their first lead over Iowa State with an incredible touchdown pass

As the announcer said, what a difference the legs of Ehlinger can make.

Trailing 20-14 on 4th & goal with less than six minutes to go against Iowa State, Texas QB Sam Ehlinger had to escape multiple Cyclone pass rushers and finally found receiver Malcolm Epps in the endzone for the touchdown.

Ehlinger made this play happen. He used his great scrambling abilities to keep the play alive and was finally able to find an open receiver for six. Kicker Cameron Dicker made the extra point to put the Longhorns on top for the first time all game, 21-20.

Ehlinger now has three touchdown passes on the day to go along with 273 passing yards and this incredible play:

Notre Dame 52, Navy 20 – Game Ball Awards

Khalid Kareem forced two fumbles early on and got Navy out of their game-plan offensively.

No. 16 Notre Dame’s 52-20 rout of No. 23 Navy was sight for sore eyes, as the Irish dominated Navy in every part of the game until calling off the dogs in the second half.

When you dominate a game like Notre Dame did Saturday, especially in the first half, there were plenty of performances that were praise-worthy and deserving of our game-ball award had it been pretty much any other week, but we limit them down to one on both offense and defense to present you our FIW game ball awards for the Navy game.

Wisconsin 37, Nebraska 21

Adrian Martinez was fantastic. He was fast, decisive, and he looked like the star for the Husker offense everyone is hoping he’ll be. He threw for 220 yards and a score, ran for 89 yards and a touchdown, Dedrick Mills ran for 188 yards and a score, and Nebraska gained almost 500 yards …

And Nebraska lost by 16. 

Wisconsin got shoved around too much, struggled against the Nebraska running game, and gave up too many big plays, but Jonathan Taylor ran for 204 yards and two scores, QB Jack Coan was fine, Aron Cruickshank retuned a kick for a score, and the D came through when absolutely needed.

The Badgers need to win out and get a loss from Minnesota before they play on November 30th. Nebraska has to beat both Maryland on the road and against Iowa to go bowling.

Northwestern 45, UMass 6

Leave it to Northwestern to be the only team that couldn’t hang a gajillion points on the worst defense in college football. One of the scores came on a blocked field goal.

This was the game to have a whole lot of fun with the passing game. Aidan Smith completed 7-of-13 passes for 76 yards with two interceptions. Wheeeeee!

Evan Hull?! The freshman had four carries all year for 15 yards, and he ripped through the Minutemen for 220 yards and four scores on 24 carries. The Wildcats ran for 335 yards and five scores.

It’s going to take something amazing for the Wildcats to win another game with Minnesota and at Illinois to close. 2-10 would be the worst season since going 2-9 in 1993.

Just ten seconds into the final quarter of play in the game between the Texas Longhorns and the Iowa State Cyclones, quarterback Sam Ehlinger found running back Keaontay Ingram for a 22-yard touchdown.

The score now sits at 20-14 in favor of Iowa State.

This touchdown pass marked the second of the night for Ehlinger. He has completed 15 out of his 28 passes and has 178 yards through the air. Ingram now has three catches for 32 yards and a touchdown as well.
