No. 5 – No. 1 LSU Rolls, Despite Insane Rushing Night by Ole Miss
In one of the stranger games of 2019, not best but simply strange, No. 1 LSU jumped out to an early 28-0 lead as this year’s Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow threw three touchdown passes in the games first 23 minutes.
The issue was never in-doubt but unlike most teams that fall behind by 28 points, Mississippi didn’t stop running the ball.
They instead went for a total of — on the ground while rushing for four scores Saturday night in an old Wild (SEC) West shootout that the Bayou Bengals won, 58-37. I can’t remember ever seeing a game where a team fell behind by 28 fairly early-on, didn’t get within more than 11 but still ran the ball for over 400 yards. At least not from a team that wasn’t named Army, Navy or Air Force.
A strange night and unique game but one where No. 1 LSU survives and advances to 10-0 with Arkansas on the schedule next week.
