Views for New Orleans and Seattle.

After announcing their signings of Isaiah Wynn and Cedric Ogbuehi on Monday, the Miami Dolphins waited until Tuesday to officially confirm safety Bryce Thompson’s signing.

Thompson has spent time in the NFL and XFL, and now, with the Dolphins, he’ll have an opportunity to earn a defensive depth and special teams role for a team that could be a contender in a strong AFC.

Before Thompson steps on the field for defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, let’s take a quick look back at some photos from his time with the New Orleans Saints and the Seattle Sea Dragons.

With the end of rookie minicamp coming on Monday, the Miami Dolphins are looking forward to their organized team activities which will begin on May 22.

Monday morning, the Dolphins signed XFL defensive back Bryce Thompson from the Seattle Sea Dragons, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Thomspon, 23, spent his collegiate career with Tennessee before going undrafted in 2021. He signed with the New Orleans Saints as a rookie, spending parts of both 2021 and 2022 with the team.

Following his release in November, he signed with the Sea Dragons. He appeared in 10 games, recording 34 tackles, two interceptions and a half-sack.

Miami is always looking to add more depth in the backend of their defense, especially after they watched so many players go down with injuries last season.

Sooners fall flat in Big 12 tournament loss to Oklahoma State 57-49

Oklahoma saw its season end Wednesday evening as in-state rivals Oklahoma State bounced them from the Big 12 tournament.

It’s truly fitting that Oklahoma’s season ended the way it did. Inspiring play for stretches of the game but not enough consistency was the Sooners demise in the opening round of the Big 12 tournament. It’s been the calling card for Oklahoma’s season from beginning to end. Their season ended the way it started: with a loss.

Oklahoma entered the Big 12 tournament knowing they had to win four games in four days to make it to the NCAA tournament. Despite holding multiple Quad 1 wins, the head-scratching losses put them in this do-or-die predicament.

Oklahoma’s matchup against their Bedlam rival went the same way it’s gone the other two times the teams have played. Oklahoma State won 57-49 and ended Oklahoma’s season.

The Sooners jumped out to an early 7-4 lead before the Cowboys settled in and went on an 18-1 run that stole the momentum Oklahoma built early in the game. Poor shot selection and a sturdy Oklahoma State defense made life rough for the Sooners as they tried to set up their half-court offense.

The Sooners mounted a spirited push to force themselves back into the game led by Bijan Cortes with two big threes. Oklahoma would whittle the lead down to just six points before halftime.

The Sooners received next to nothing from Grant Sherfield and Tanner Groves. They combined to shoot 6 of 28 from the floor for 21 points in the loss. The two shot 1 of 12 from three. While Groves contributed in the second half, Sherfield wasn’t able to find his shooting stroke,

Caleb Asberry paced the Cowboys with 15 points and junior guard Bryce Thompson dropped in 12.

For the Sooners, Tanner Groves led the way with 13 points and 12 boards. No other Oklahoma player landed in double digits while Sooners as a team shot an ugly 25% from the field. Ultimately, the Sooners’ inability to generate offense from their go-to guys was their downfall.

Oklahoma State kept the defensive intensity up in the second half and would salt away victory and punch their ticket to the next round to face No. 7 Texas.

Playing in the postseason seems like a pipe dream for Oklahoma. Porter Moser and his staff will likely begin evaluation mode, looking to retool for next season.

Alvin Kamara thinks Tyrann Mathieu wears Tennessee orange well after lost bet on LSU

Alvin Kamara thinks his New Orleans Saints teammate Tyrann Mathieu wears Tennessee Volunteers orange well after a lost bet on the LSU Tigers:

They’re all wearing black and gold now, but many New Orleans Saints players are still proud of their college colors. And Tyrann Mathieu is about as famous as former LSU Tigers can be, so it makes sense that he’d make a bet with his new teammates about swapping team gear going into a big game. Unfortunately for him, Alvin Kamara and the many other Tennessee Volunteers on the Saints’ roster were all too happy to oblige.

The Vols ran amok in Baton Rouge, winning an early-afternoon kickoff by a dominant margin of 40-13. Afterwards, Kamara shared a video on his official Twitter account from the Saints locker room of Mathieu wearing a bright orange Tennessee sweatshirt — with his fellow Vols Bryce Thompson and Alontae Taylor getting plenty of photos. Their college teammates Shy Tuttle and Marquez Callaway were presumably just offscreen, laughing.

“Yeah that boy look good. Who dat? What dat?” Kamara taunted before going in for a close-up, with Mathieu laughing and covering his face. “Yeah y’all know who that is. That’s that Badger man. That’s that Badger, that’s what happens.”

It’s all in good fun, and it goes to show the strong locker room culture the Saints have built over the years, as well as how easy a fit Mathieu has been there. He’s widely respected around the NFL, as are the Tigers, so Kamara and the Vols are getting their licks in when they can. Let’s hope the Saints keep winning games so this camaraderie can continue to flourish.

Report: Saints sign safety Jack Koerner with Bryce Thompson likely heading to injured reserve

With defensive back Bryce Thompson likely headed to injured reserve, the New Orleans Saints bring back Iowa safety Jack Koerner.

After an unfortunate injury befell New Orleans Saints defensive back Bryce Thompson earlier this week, it was clear the team would quickly be looking for help at the position. On Wednesday, Thompson was waived with an injury designation and will likely, after clearing waivers, revert to the Saints’ injured reserve list. As with many of the Saints training camp additions, they turned to a familiar face. This time former Iowa Hawkeye Jack Koerner.

Per Sean Fazende of FOX 8 News, the Saints are bringing Koener back after he spent offseason team activities and minicamps with them as an undrafted free agent. Following the trend of signings like quarterback KJ Costello, linebackers Chase Hansen and Alex Anzalone as well as earlier additions like running back Devine Ozigbo, the team leaned on familiarity. Koerner returns to New Orleans after a short time away.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Des Moines, Iowa native mostly focused at free safety during his time with the Hawkeyes. He totaled 88 tackles (3.5 for a loss), 2 interceptions and one pass defensed in his final year at Iowa. He was named permanent team captain his senior year and is a multi-sport athlete lettering in baseball, a quality New Orleans loves in its safeties.

While Koerner does his best to earn a spot with the team to jumpstart his NFL career, the Saints are already piling on a longer injured reserve list than they’d like. If Thompson does indeed end up there, he’ll join rookie linebacker and fifth-round selection D’Marco Jackson, defensive back Smoke Monday, cornerback Dylan Mabin, and offensive tackle Jerald Hawkins. New Orleans has already dealt with its fair share of injuries this training camp, mostly minor, but has done well filling in where needed.
