Texas and TCU look to keep Gipson in his home state but the recent Clemson offer is catching his eye. He has no set timetable for a commitment date so far.

Top uncommitted prospects left in the 2023 recruiting class

Who are the top uncommitted players in the nation?

Recruiting is beginning to heat up as we approach the early signing period on Dec. 21. Programs across the country are doing everything in their power to close out the cycle on a good note.

Alabama sits on top of the team rankings at the moment, followed by the likes of Georgia, Notre Dame and Texas. The race for the No. 1 spot is going to come down to the final whistle.

While the majority of the top 300 prospects have already made up their mind on where they will play college football, multiple star players remain uncommitted.

Players are taking last-minute visits, meeting with coaches and monitoring the transfer portal to figure out where they want to go. Recruiting is the backbone of college football and the decisions of these prospects directly impact the future of the game.

Here is a look at the 10 highest-rated uncommitted recruits in the 2023 cycle according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Where the top 10 running back prospects in 2023 are headed

The 2023 running back class is stacked with talent from top to bottom.

The 2023 running back class is stacked with talent from top to bottom. The class features two five-star and 29 four-star rated players.

Texas made a big splash on the recruiting trail with the addition of four-star running back Cedric Baxter on Aug 10. Baxter ranks as the No. 4 running back in the nation and a top 50 overall prospect. The Florida product ran for nearly 1,800 total yards and 26 touchdowns in his junior season.

Baxter is in line to become the Longhorns’ highest-rated running back signee since Bijan Robinson in the class of 2020.

Alabama has nabbed two of the top three running backs in the rankings while Louisville made major headlines landing the No. 1 ranked back Rueben Owens out of the state of Texas.

Every running back inside 247Sports’ composite top 10 is already committed to their school of choice. Here is a look at where each of the best ball carriers in the 2023 cycle are set to play in college.

Texas receives a crystal ball prediction for four-star OL Jaydon Chatman

Texas’ offensive line recruiting momentum is carrying over to the 2023 cycle.

It appears the late recruiting momentum Texas used to build its excellent 2022 offensive line class is carrying over to the 2023 cycle.

247Sports’ Mike Roach put in a crystal ball projection for Texas to land talented four-star offensive guard Jaydon Chatmon. Chatman is rated inside the top 300 in the nation and the No. 42 overall player in the state of Texas in 247Sports’ composite rankings.

The Harker Heights product received all-district honors as a junior in 2021. Chatman is now picking up lots of attention from schools across the county, adding recent offers from the likes of Alabama, Tennessee, Baylor and LSU.

Texas is looking to put together back-to-back elite recruiting classes on the offensive line after signing seven big-time prospects in 2022. Kyle Flood is changing the outlook of Texas’ offensive line for years to come.

Where Texas targets, commits rank in the latest 247Sports composite

Here are where Texas’ commits and top targets rank in the updated 247Sports composite.

With Rivals redoing their top 200 prospects, the 247Sports composite has been updated as well, pulling from the three major recruiting websites. Players have fluctuated through the rankings over the years but will carry these going into their season year.

Of Texas’ 17 commits, none are ranked within the top 100. Four-star safety Bryan Allen Jr. is the highest rated at No. 104. Outside of the two special team commits, recent cornerback commit Ronald Lewis round outs the class.

Plenty of five-star targets are left on the board as well.

Wide receiver Evan Stewart jumped to the No. 3 prospect in the country. Cornerback Denver Harris and Devon Campbell stayed within the top 10, while other priority front seven guys retain five-star status.

Here are where Texas’ commits and top targets rank in the updated 247Sports composite.

Where Texas’ 2022 class ranks after Evan Stewart’s decommitment

With Stewart now reconsidering his options, Texas has taken a dive on the 247Sports composite team rankings.

Texas’ 2022 recruiting cycle was off to a hot start in Steve Sarkisian’s two months in charge. The discussions of how good the class was going to end up were reaching maximum hype levels, but it all came crashing back down to reality on Thursday afternoon.

Four-star wide receiver Evan Stewart announced his decommitment, citing his desire to take in-person visits as the main reason. The speedster was the biggest pledge Sarkisian had gotten. Stewart’s ability and quickness were projected to change Texas’ wide receiver room for the better. It’s a rather big loss for the Longhorns.

With Stewart now reconsidering his options, Texas has taken a dive on the 247Sports composite team rankings. Texas A&M rose above the Longhorns with a commitment from Isaiah Sategna and bumped them down to No. 5 in the country. Now without Stewart, Texas has dropped to No. 8, behind Oklahoma.

Texas’ average score is 95.03, only behind Ohio State and Georgia. Every other team ranked inside the top 10 has at least seven commitments, while Sarkisian has reeled in six so far.

Maalik Murphy remains the headliner of the 2022 class from a rating standpoint. Running back Jaydon Blue may be the best overall player, being a burner himself. The Longhorns have plenty of options at wide receiver, but Stewart projects as the top receiver of the cycle. It stings.

There will still be an opportunity for Sarkisian and Andre Coleman to get Stewart back in the class. Alabama and Oregon were seen as the biggest competitors before his original commitment in February. However, going against Nick Saban in a recruiting battle usually ends poorly for everyone not named Alabama.

Georgia, Florida target 5-star LB Xavian Sorey commits, signs with UGA

Five-star 2021 outside linebacker Xavian Sorey has committed to the University of Georgia over Florida and Alabama.

Outside linebacker Xavian Sorey has committed to the University of Georgia and will now sign with the Bulldogs. Sorey is a five-star recruit, who plays football and basketball for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Sorey previously played for Graceville High School in Graceville, Florida.

Georgia has already offered his younger brother, Daquayvious Sorey, a football scholarship. His brother, who plays for Graceville, plays wide receiver and is an elite 2023 recruit.

Sorey has good size for a linebacker at six-foot-three, and he weighs 214 pounds. He holds numerous scholarship offers, but picked Georgia over Florida and Alabama.

Sorey is rated as the No. 1 outside linebacker, the No. 6 prospect in Florida and the No. 20 prospect overall, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

This is Georgia’s biggest recruiting win so far on signing day. Sorey gives Georgia a great group of 2021 linebacker recruits. Sorey joins fellow five-star UGA commitment Smael Mondon in Athens.

Sorey Jr. officially signed with Georgia today according to the Georgia football Twitter account:
