Dolphins make three roster moves ahead of Week 12 matchup with Carolina Panthers

Elijah Campbell will miss at least three games.

Before the Miami Dolphins take on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium, they made three moves that will affect their roster.

The team announced Saturday that they would be placing defensive back Elijah Campbell on injured reserve. Campbell was out of practice all week due to toe and knee injuries and will now be forced to miss at least three games.

In the same announcement, the team also elevated cornerback Javaris Davis and safety Sheldrick Redwine from the practice squad. Davis, a second-year player, seems to be a potential replacement for Campbell on special teams. He has yet to play a snap in the NFL, so this may be an opportunity for him to show he can contribute in that role.

Redwine can also appear on special teams, as he played a decent amount during his time with the Browns and Jets. His elevation may also be related to safety Brandon Jones’ injury status, as he was listed as questionable on Friday.

Hopefully, this is more of a precaution than an indicator of Jones’ health.

Dolphins cut Jake Dolegala from practice squad, sign Sheldrick Redwine

The Dolphins added a quarterback Wednesday and moved on from one Thursday.

The Dolphins made two moves Thursday morning, both involving the practice squad, as Miami released quarterback Jake Dolegala and signed safety Sheldrick Redwine.

Dolegala signed with the practice squad at the end of October after the Dolphins lost third-string quarterback Reid Sinnett to Philadelphia on waivers. During his three weeks with the team, Dolegala was never elevated to the active roster despite Tua Tagovailoa dealing with a finger injury that kept him from starting. Miami signed Jake Luton Wednesday to the practice squad, so the team will still carry three quarterbacks.

Redwine was waived Tuesday to make room for Jamal Perry, who the Dolphins signed from their own practice squad. In the safety’s three weeks with the active roster, he never saw the field and was actually forced to miss a game due to disciplinary reasons.

Dolphins place OT Greg Little on IR and waive S Sheldrick Redwine

Doesn’t sound like offensive line changes are coming now.

After Brian Flores acknowledged the team’s issues on the offensive line, it doesn’t appear that there will be any changes to the group going forward.

That’s because the team announced Tuesday that offensive tackle Greg Little would be placed on injured reserve. In the same announcement, the team waived safety Sheldrick Redwine.

Little, who the Dolphins traded a draft pick for back in August, has yet to be active all season despite obvious issues at the tackle positions. Flores confirmed this week that rookie Liam Eichenberg would be staying in, so this all but eliminates a change to either tackle spot.

Redwine signed with Dolphins late in October of the Panthers’ practice squad, but he hasn’t played a snap for Miami either. He actually missed a game due to disciplinary reasons during his short stay.

It appears that one of these spots will be taken by newly signed defensive tackle Andrew Billings who signed to the practice squad Monday.

WR Preston Williams and S Sheldrick Redwine not traveling with Dolphins

Williams and Redwine are out Sunday.

The Miami Dolphins will be without two players on Sunday for their Week 8 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported that both wide receiver Preston William and safety Sheldrick Redwine did not travel with the team.

Redwine was just signed this week with the news that defensive back Jason McCourty was going on injured reserve. It wasn’t likely that he would have much of a role if any at all if he had played this week.

Williams’ situation is interesting. This may mean that DeVante Parker, who has been battling a hamstring injury for the last three weeks, is ready to make his return. However, you’d think that Williams would still have a spot on the depth chart over guys like Albert Wilson and Isaiah Ford.

Neither player was on the injury report this week, so unless this is something that popped up afterwards, they seem to both be healthy scratches.

Report: Dolphins sign safety Sheldrick Redwine from Panthers practice squad

The Dolphins make an addition to their secondary.

The Miami Dolphins are attempting to improve their roster after their sixth-straight defeat, this time at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons.

According to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, the Dolphins are signing safety Sheldrick Redwine from the Carolina Panthers practice squad.

Miami has struggled to cover tight ends and running backs this season, so this move could be made to improve that aspect of their defense. It also could be because Jerome Baker may miss some time with a knee injury that he suffered Sunday despite the fact it’s not expected to be serious.

Redwine was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns out of Miami. He played two seasons with the Browns, appearing in 27 of 32 possible games and recording 69 total tackles.

The 24-year-old was released by the Browns during roster cuts heading into this season and signed with the Jets where he bounced between the active roster and the practice squad. He was signed to the Panthers practice squad just two weeks ago.

Redwine’s versatility could make him a solid depth piece at multiple positions.

Panthers sign S Sheldrick Redwine to practice squad

The Panthers signed S Sheldrick Redwine on Thursday, adding another DB and one of the fanciest names in the league to their practice squad.

The Carolina Panthers apparently prefer red to white. (Wait, are there even any players with the surname “Whitewine” for us to make that assumption?)

Anyway, Darin Gantt of Panthers.com reported on early Thursday evening that the team signed safety Sheldrick Redwine to their practice squad. This comes just hours after Carolina elevated fellow safety Kenny Robinson up to the active roster amidst their punter shuffle.

Redwine cracked into the NFL as a fourth-round selection of the Cleveland Browns back in 2019. The University of Miami (Fla.) product spent a pair of seasons there, totaling eight starts over 27 games. He recorded 75 tackles, an interception and three pass deflections.

Cleveland waived Redwine on Aug. 31, giving way to a path for a new home with the New York Jets just a week later. He had played in a pair of New York’s outings in 2021, including the season opener in Carolina.

In the corresponding move to accommodate Redwine, the team released safety Doug Middleton, who was brought in on Wednesday.

Jets’ addition of a fullback among 3 practice squad moves

The Jets made three practice squad moves on Thursday, including the addition of an experienced fullback.

The Jets made three practice squad moves on Thursday, including the addition of an experienced fullback.

Former Lion Nick Bawden signed to Gang Green’s squad following a workout on Wednesday. The addition of the fullback could spell trouble for Trevon Wesco.

The Jets placed DE Ronald Blair on practice squad injured reserve to make room for Bawden. The team also signed S Sheldrick Redwine to the squad after waiving him on Wednesday.

Jets waiving S Sheldrick Redwine

The Jets are waiving safety Sheldrick Redwine, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Sheldrick Redwine signing did not age well in New York.

The Jets are waiving the safety, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The decision comes a day after New York signed fellow safety Adrian Colbert off their practice squad and onto the active roster.

The Jets signed Redwine shortly after the Browns made him one of their final cuts at the end of August. Redwine had an opportunity to earn playing time after starting safety Lamarcus Joyner was lost for the season in New York’s opener against the Panthers, but he struggled in coverage and was involved in Robby Anderson’s 57-yard touchdown.

Redwine was limited to special teams this past Sunday against the Patriots. Colbert started.

A fourth-round pick in 2019, Redwine played in 27 games for Cleveland before becoming a Jet. He tallied 69 tackles, one interception, a half-sack and three defended passes with the Browns.

Where did they go? Keeping up with ex-Browns around the league

Keeping track of what happened with some former Cleveland Browns players this offseason as they moved around the NFL

Now that the 53-man rosters are set around the league, it’s time to keep up with where some former Browns players from the 2020 season or the 2021 preseason wound up.

Colby Gossett: Another player claimed off waivers after the Browns cut the offensive lineman earlier this week, Gossett is now in Atlanta. There are some projections where Gossett could get immediate playing time for the Falcons, who have some injury issues on the OL.

KhaDarel Hodge: The popular wideout and special teams star was claimed off waivers by the Detroit Lions. Former Browns GM John Dorsey, who brought Hodge to Cleveland, is part of the Lions front office now too.

Karl Joseph: A starting safety in Cleveland last year, Joseph was cut by the Las Vegas Raiders. He is now on the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad, and there is ample speculation he will be elevated quickly to the Steelers’ active roster once he clears COVID-19 protocols.

Terrance Mitchell: “Money” Mitchell is one of the starting cornerbacks for the Houston Texans. Mitchell signed in Houston as a free agent after three seasons in Cleveland.

Larry Ogunjobi: Ogunjobi defected from the Browns to the rival Bengals. The defensive tackle signed a one-year early in free agency. Ogunjobi is one of the Bengals top defensive starters.

Sheldrick Redwine: The young safety signed with the New York Jets right after being waived by the Browns. The Jets seem pretty excited to have Redwine in their secondary, too.

Sheldon Richardson: The versatile defensive lineman returns to Minnesota, where he played before coming to Cleveland in 2019. Richardson will start for the revamped Vikings defense.

Kyle Lauletta: Cleveland’s No. 3 QB dating back to last season was among the final cuts. He quickly signed in Jacksonville on the Jaguars’ practice squad.

Kendall Lamm: Lamm is playing the same role for the Tennessee Titans that he did in two years in Cleveland. He’s the top reserve offensive tackle. The Titans currently have COVID-19 issues that would have Lamm starting if the season began today.

Tavierre Thomas: The CB is in Houston, doing what he does best – making things happen on special teams. He is also Mitchell’s backup at outside CB on the Texans depth chart.

B.J. Goodson: Cleveland’s leading tackler in 2020, Goodson is still a free agent. The veteran linebacker remains unsigned.

Tae Davis: The LB and special teams fixture from 2019-2020 landed on injured reserve with the Houston Texans. He just recently had foot surgery.

Andrew Sendejo: Sendejo started 14 games for Cleveland in 2020 at safety. The veteran, who turns 34 this week, remains unsigned.

Olivier Vernon: Another veteran starter from last season, Vernon is also still unsigned.

Robert Jackson: Jackson was one of the earlier cuts for the Browns this summer. The cornerback, who primarily played special teams in Cleveland, is now on the Raiders’ practice squad.

Vincent Taylor: Taylor is climbing up the NFL ladder. A reserve defensive tackle in Cleveland, he’s now the starting “rush” tackle for the Texans.

Dontrell Hilliard: Yet another former Browns player who wound up in Houston, Hilliard was waived by the Texans and took an injury settlement. The running back is now a free agent.

Jets sign former Browns S Sheldrick Redwine

The Jets brought in Sheldrick Redwine to backup Marcus Maye and Lamarcus Joyner at safety.

The Jets added a new young defensive back to the roster after signing former Browns safety Sheldrick Redwine, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Redwine cleared waivers Wednesday after being cut by the Browns on Aug. 31. He played in 17 games for the Browns after being taken in the fourth round of the 2019 draft. He tallied 69 total tackles, one interception, a half-sack and three defended passes during his time in Cleveland. Redwine’s top play was an interpretation off Ben Roethlisberger in the Browns’ 2020 Wild Card win last season.

Redwine will likely be the backup to Marcus Maye and Lamarcus Joyner while Ashtyn Davis recovers from injury. He also tallied 329 snaps on special teams over the past two seasons.
