Jets elevate Nick Bawden, Bruce Hector; Greg Zuerlein good to go

The Jets elevated Nick Bawden and Bruce Hector from the practice squad for Week 17 and kicker Greg Zuerlein is good to go.

The Jets announced they elevated fullback Nick Bawden and defensive lineman Bruce Hector from the practice squad for Thursday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

One player the Jets did not elevate was kicker Austin Seibert. That would indicate Greg Zuerlein, who was questionable with a quad injury, should be good to go.

Bawden is being elevated for the second straight week following his roster gymnastics thanks to the Jets’ decision to activate quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Hector is being elevated for the first time this season. After spending Week 9 on the practice squad, Hector rejoined the practice squad for Week 14. Hector has bounced around the league during his first six seasons. He has played in 14 games with one start during stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions.

Jets Week 16 inactives: Nick Bawden out after elevation

Jets Week 16 inactives: Nick Bawden out after elevation

The Jets have announced their Week 16 inactives against the Washington Commanders. As expected, two of them are quarterbacks Zach Wilson and Aaron Rodgers.

However, in a bit of a surprise, fullback Nick Bawden is inactive. Bawden was waived to make room for Rodgers, re-signed to the practice squad and elevated Saturday. The numbers game may have played a part but still interesting to see his name on the list.

The full list of Jets inactives are as follows:

WR Randall Cobb
OT Duane Brown
QB Aaron Rodgers
QB Zach Wilson
OT Austin Deculus
FB Nick Bawden
CB Bryce Hall

Jets adding Nick Bawden to practice squad

The Jets are bringing back fullback Nick Bawden on the practice squad after he was waived to make room for Aaron Rodgers.

The Jets are adding fullback Nick Bawden to the practice squad after he was waived Wednesday to make room for quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the 53-man roster.

This was the likely move after Bawden was waived. He is also dealing with a knee injury, so it was unlikely Bawden would be claimed on waivers. Plus, Bawden is not losing any money by being waived. As a vested veteran, being on the roster Week 1 guaranteed his salary for the season, so he will still make the same amount while on the practice squad. It’s also extremely likely Bawden will be elevated from the practice squad for the season’s three games.

A player can be elevated from the practice squad three times. Bawden has not been elevated yet as he spent the entire season on the active roster. With three games left, Bawden can be elevated for each of the remaining games.

So in the end, the Jets did have the roster flexibility head coach Robert Saleh referenced.

Jets officially activate Aaron Rodgers, waive Nick Bawden

The Jets have officially added Aaron Rodgers back to the active roster. Nick Bawden was waived to make room.

The Jets officially activated quarterback Aaron Rodgers from injured reserve Wednesday, bringing him back to the 53-man roster just 14 weeks after undergoing surgery on his torn Achilles September 13. Rodgers will not play this season but this allows him to continue rehabbing and practicing with the team through the rest of the season.

In a corresponding move, the Jets waived fullback Nick Bawden. Bawden played in all 14 games for the Jets, logging two rushes for four yards with a touchdown and two catches for two yards. He’s been a key part in blocking for Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook.

Bawden is also among the top ten fullbacks in Pro Bowl, ranking No. 8 as of Wednesday. Bawden will go through the waiver system and can come back on the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Jets Week 15 injury report: Jason Brownlee out, Carter Warren doubtful

WR Jason Brownlee is out and offensive tackle Carter Warren is doubtful for Week 15 against the Dolphins.

The Jets released their injury report and game statuses Friday for their Week 15 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Two players — QB Aaron Rodgers and WR Jason Brownlee — are listed as out. With Rodgers practicing, he has been listed on the injury report but has yet to be activated from injured reserve. The Jets have until Wednesday to do so.

Rodgers was listed as a limited participant Thursday and Friday and was even starting to push his practice habits a little. Brownlee did not practice all week with an ankle injury.

Offensive tackle Carter Warren is doubtful for Sunday with a hip injury. After missing Week 14 against the Houston Texans, Warren did not practice all week, likely causing him to miss another game. Max Mitchell would get another start at right tackle if Warren cannot go…if Mitchell plays himself. Mitchell is questionable with a neck injury. He was limited all week.

Also listed as questionable for the Jets: DE John Franklin-Myers (ankle), FB Nick Bawden (knee), C Joe Tippmann (shoulder) and DE Will McDonald (knee). Franklin-Myers, Bawden and Tippmann all practiced in full Friday while McDonald was a late add Friday with a knee injury and did not practice.

Quarterback Zach Wilson was on the report with a knee injury but practiced in full all week. He is good to go for Sunday.

For the Dolphins, safety DeShon Elliott (concussion) and guard Robert Hunt (hamstring) are both out. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill highlights the questionable Dolphins as he did not practice all week with an ankle injury.

Also listed as questionable for the Dolphins: RB De’Von Achane (toe), OT Terron Armstead (knee/ankle), OL Liam Eichenberg (calf), FS Jevon Holland (knees), CB Xavien Howard (hip), OT Austin Jackson (oblique) and OLB Andrew Van Ginkel (oblique). All were listed as limited participants Friday.

Jets quickly bring back Thomas Morstead and Nick Bawden

The Jets have a punter and a fullback again. Morstead and Bawden are back.

The Jets announced the re-signing of punter Thomas Morstead and fullback Nick Bawden Wednesday. Just like Morstead told Jets fans to do, they can relax now.

Both Morstead and Bawden were left off the initial 53-man roster Tuesday but there were clearly handshake deals with both to come back once other moves were made as the Jets did roster gymnastics. Those moves came Wednesday as the Jets placed offensive tackle Carter Warren and tight end Kenny Yeboah on injured reserve. Both are now out for at least four games. They can both return during the season because they were a part of the initial 53.

There was never any doubt about Morstead returning and pretty much the same for Bawden. The Jets pretty much let it be known that Morstead was going to be the man at punter this season and Bawden was getting more involved in the offense. He now can act as the 4th tight end with Yeboah on injured reserve.

So all is well on special teams again for the Jets. They have a punter on the roster. As Morstead said, “We’re gonna be ok.” He even took to X to share his excitement about sticking around with the Jets.

Jets re-sign FB Nick Bawden to 1-year deal

The Jets kept FB Nick Bawden following a solid nine-week stint for New York in 2021.

The Jets might have their starting fullback.

New York re-signed Nick Bawden to a one-year deal Sunday night, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. It’s unclear how much Bawden’s new deal is worth, though.

Bawden originally joined the Jets as a practice squad player on Sept. 23, 2021, but he didn’t play in a regular-season game until Week 10 after FB/TE Trevon Wesco landed on injured reserve. Bawden played nine games total for the Jets, including one start in Week 17. He finished with one reception for 20 yards on a fantastic play design by offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur.

While the move certainly doesn’t lock up the fullback job for Bawden, it means he’ll be in contention for it in 2022. It also could signal the end of the Wesco experiment after the Jets moved him from tight end to fullback.

Bawden was a seventh-round pick by the Lions in 2018. He missed the whole season after tearing his ACL that summer. He played in 10 games for the Lions in 2019 but suffered another knee injury before the 2020 season, when the Lions ultimately waived him.

Now Bawden has a chance to secure a starting role on the Jets in 2022.

4 things to know about new Jets FB Nick Bawden

Get to know new Jets fullback Nick Bawden.

The fullback position was rarely utilized under Adam Gase and Dowell Loggains, but that can change with Mike LaFleur now running New York’s offense.

The Jets added depth at the position on Tuesday, signing Nick Bawden to their practice squad. Trevon Wesco spent the summer converting from tight end to fullback, but he’s barely played in New York’s first two games. Bawden is a natural fullback who could take on the role if needed.

Here are four things to know about Gang Green’s newest fullback.

Jets’ addition of a fullback among 3 practice squad moves

The Jets made three practice squad moves on Thursday, including the addition of an experienced fullback.

The Jets made three practice squad moves on Thursday, including the addition of an experienced fullback.

Former Lion Nick Bawden signed to Gang Green’s squad following a workout on Wednesday. The addition of the fullback could spell trouble for Trevon Wesco.

The Jets placed DE Ronald Blair on practice squad injured reserve to make room for Bawden. The team also signed S Sheldrick Redwine to the squad after waiving him on Wednesday.

Jets’ recent fullback tryouts could spell trouble for Trevon Wesco

Fullbacks Sutton Smith and Nick Bawden recently worked out for the Jets. Does that mean Gang Green could move on from Trevon Wesco?

Two fullbacks, Sutton Smith and Nick Bawden, worked out for the Jets on Wednesday, according to the NFL’s transaction wire.

Smith entered the league as a linebacker after being drafted by the Steelers. He has never played in a regular season game, but he did spend the preseason with the Saints after being signed as a fullback.

Bawden, meanwhile, has 10 games on his resume after being drafted by the Lions in the seventh round of the 2018 draft. All of those games came in 2019. Bawden caught four passes for 17 yards.

Neither player is flashy or experienced, but their tryouts with New York indicate that the team may not be satisfied with its current option at the position. That would be converted tight end Trevon Wesco.

The 2019 fourth-round pick spent the summer making the transition, as Mike LaFleur’s offense could use a fullback and Wesco had little chance of making the roster as a tight end. All indications were that the switch was going well, but Wesco played just 20 offensive snaps in Week 1 and saw that number cut to two this past week against New England. He has also played just 10 special teams snaps.

Now the 26-year-old’s roster spot is something to keep an eye on after a pair of workouts.
