Dolphins OT Kendall Lamm says 2024 season will be his ‘last ride’

Kendall Lamm says he’s ready to “close this football chapter the right way” in his third season with the Dolphins.

The Miami Dolphins brought back veteran offensive tackle Kendall Lamm on a third consecutive one-year contract, but it doesn’t sound like the lineman envisions a fourth in his future.

When the Dolphins announced the new deal for Lamm, the offensive tackle said in a video posted by the team that 2024 will be his “last ride.”

“I can tell you I’m very, very appreciative of this,” Lamm says in the video. “This will be the last ride for me. So to play in Miami and play with good people, good organization, great fans, it’s amazing to me to close this football chapter the right way. So Miami Dolphins, thank you so much. I’m blessed and excited for year 10, let’s close this the right way.”

Lamm, who will turn 32 in June, began his NFL career in 2015 when he signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent. He made stops with the Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, and Detroit Lions before joining the Dolphins in 2022.

During the 2023 season, Miami was forced to turn to Lamm to handle left tackle duties early in the year while Terron Armstead was dealing with ankle and knee injuries. Lamm performed well in Armstead’s absence and was credited by PFF with allowing 20 pressures on 357 pass blocking snaps in 2023.

Dolphins reportedly bringing back OL Kendall Lamm on 1-year deal

The Dolphins added depth to their offensive line by bringing Kendall Lamm back for another year.

The Miami Dolphins are re-signing offensive lineman Kendall Lamm to a one-year deal, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN.

Lamm, 31, first joined the Dolphins as a member of the practice squad in 2022 and was promoted to the active roster about a month later. In 2023, Lamm was Miami’s Week 1 starter at left tackle with Terron Armstead recovering from injury. By the end of the year, Lamm appeared in all 17 games and started eight, including a Week 16 start at right tackle.

According to Pro Football Focus, Lamm allowed 20 total pressures (15 hurries, one hit, and four sacks) in 357 pass blocking snaps.

Prior to his tenure with the Dolphins, Lamm previously spent time with the Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, and Detroit Lions.

In March, the Dolphins signed former Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Jack Driscoll to provide additional depth behind Armstead and right tackle Austin Jackson.

Details of Lamm’s new contract with the Dolphins haven’t yet been revealed.

Ranking 2024’s top 12 free-agent offensive tackles

Are there any hog mollies worth keeping an eye on in free agency?

Will the Carolina Panthers be able to find the fabled offensive line depth this offseason?

Here are the top 12 free-agent offensive tackles of 2024:

Dolphins free agent profile: Miami should bring Kendall Lamm back

The Dolphins should try to re-sign Kendall Lamm.

The Miami Dolphins have 29 players set to hit free agency in March, including an offensive lineman who filled in well at multiple spots in 2023 – Kendall Lamm.

Lamm, 31, was originally signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Appalachian State in 2015. He spent four seasons with the Texans, two with the Cleveland Browns, one with the Tennessee Titans and offseason with the Detroit Lions before signing with the Dolphins practice squad in late 2022.

He was eventually called up to the active roster and asked to start in the team’s Week 17 battle with the New England Patriots, a game that Miami lost 23-21.

Lamm re-signed with the Dolphins last offseason on a one-year deal worth $1.32 million. Due to injuries to both Terron Armstead and Austin Jackson, Lamm ended up playing 55.8% of the team’s offensive snaps in 2023, his highest percentage since 2018, when he was starting at right tackle for the Texans.

According to Pro Football Focus, Lamm was a starting-caliber offensive tackle in 2023, posting a 64.3 overall grade. He was also the 41st-best tackle in pass protection (67.1) which was better than Austin Jackson, who was No. 53 (62.3).

It’s unlikely that Lamm will receive a massive payday when he hits the market in a few weeks, so Miami should strongly consider bringing him back as a depth option.

Jackson and Armstead haven’t exactly been the healthiest players during their tenure with the Dolphins, so there’s a high probability that Miami have to start a backup at some point. Having someone who knows the system and has done well in it would be a smart move, especially considering he’ll likely cost less than $5 million annually.

Grading the Dolphins offensive linemen after their 2023 season

A look at Miami’s offensive linemen, and the year they had in 2023.

The Miami Dolphins finished their 2023 campaign with an 11-6 record and made the postseason for the second time in as many years under head coach Mike McDaniel. Unfortunately, it came to an end with a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round.

While other teams are in the midst of their playoff run, it’s time to do some reflecting on the team in South Florida.

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be reviewing and evaluating different positions for the Dolphins in 2023. Today, we’ll look at the offensive linemen.

Ranking the 10 most important Dolphins free agents they should re-sign

10 pending free agents the Dolphins should consider bringing back.

The Miami Dolphins have 29 players on their current roster who are going to be free agents in 2024. Many of the pending free agents played major roles in the regular season and wild-card game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

With the season ending in major disappointment, general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel must look ahead to what the near future holds for the aqua and orange. The team has already been in the news with the departure of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

The new NFL calendar begins with free agency opening on March 13. This is a free agency that will contain massive decisions for the Dolphins on offense, defense and special teams.

Here are the top 10 most important pending free agents that the Dolphins should consider re-signing.

Dolphins LT Kendall Lamm suffers injury vs. Patriots

How many more injuries can they handle?

The Miami Dolphins are struggling to keep their players on the field.

They entered the game without left tackle Terron Armstead and left guard Isaiah Wynn, as they’re both on injured reserve. Starting center Connor Williams, while active, isn’t playing due to a groin injury of his own.

Then, after losing Robert Hunt to a hamstring injury early in the second quarter, left tackle Kendall Lamm suffered an abdominal injury later in that second quarter. His return to the game is questionable.

In Lamm’s place, the Dolphins have turned to Kion Smith.

UPDATE: Lamm returned in third quarter.

70 days until Browns season opener: 5 players to wear 70 for Cleveland

The have been a ton of players wear the number 70 in Cleveland.

The countdown is at 70 days remaining between now and the start of NFL football for the Cleveland Browns. 70 is one of the more often worn numbers in Browns’ history as a total of 32 different players have worn it for a regular season game for the franchise, most notably Kevin Zeitler.

One of the more memorable to wear it recently is Kendall Lamm who caught a touchdown pass from Baker Mayfield against the Titans in 2020. Another player to have worn it for the Browns is current Baltimore Ravens guard Kevin Zeitler who has also played for the Bengals. Let’s take a look at five players that have worn the number for the Browns over the years.

Breaking down Dolphins OT Kendall Lamm’s new contract

They can get out of the contract fairly easily.

The Miami Dolphins entered the offseason with some questions along the offensive line.

Who would be starting at right tackle and left guard? Who would be the swing tackle?

One of the moves that Chris Grier decided on in recent weeks was to re-sign offensive tackle Kendall Lamm.

According to Over the Cap, Lamm and the Dolphins agreed to a one-year deal that will pay him roughly $1.32 million in 2023. The tackle will make $1.17 million a base salary ($100,000 of which is guaranteed), $100,000 in a signing bonus and $52,500 in per-game roster bonuses. His cap number is set to be $1.05 million.

With uncertainty at the position, and the low guarantees in the contract, Lamm’s spot on the roster is far from a lock. If Miami were to release Lamm before the start of the season, they’d save $850,000 in cap space and be left with just $200,000 in dead cap.

At this point, looking at the depth chart, Lamm appears to be the frontrunner for the swing tackle spot, but it’s still early in the process.

Dolphins re-sign OT Kendall Lamm

Miami returns another pending free agent.

The 2023 league year is set to begin on Wedensday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. ET, but the Miami Dolphins have been active through the legal tampering window as well as with their own pending free agents.

On Wednesday, the team announced that they’ve re-signed offensive tackle Kendall Lamm. The terms of the deal are unknown, at this point.

Lamm, 30, was originally signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2015 out of Appalachian State. After three years with Houston, he joined the Cleveland Browns for two years and spent 2021 with the Tennessee Titans. He signed with the Detroit Lions last offseason but was cut before the start of the year.

Miami signed Lamm to their practice squad in November, and he was promoted to the active roster the following month, as the team dealt with injuries at their tackle spots.

Last year, Lamm started just one game for the Dolphins, lining up at left tackle for their matchup with the New England Patriots. Unfortunately, he suffered an ankle injury that got him carted to the locker room before halftime.

Heading into 2023, the right tackle spot is up for grabs, with Austin Jackson the frontrunner at the moment. There’s no reason why Lamm couldn’t grab that spot and run with it to start the year.
