Texans place OT Greg Little on injured reserve

The Houston Texans have placed tackle Greg Little on injured reserve.

The hits to the Houston Texans offensive line reserves keep on coming.

The Texans announced Monday they have placed fifth-year tackle Greg Little on injured reserve. According to Aaron Wilson from KPRC-TV, Little sustained a back injury and is undergoing more tests.

Houston added tackle George Fant to the roster as Charlie Heck remains out.

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters starting right tackle Tytus Howard will be out “for a while” with a hand injury.

“Tytus, he’s still dealing with that [hand injury] and will probably be out for a while,” Ryans said. “We’ll re-address that later.”

Houston faces the New England Patriots Aug. 10 for their first preseason game.

Former Panthers 2nd-round pick signs with Texans

Former Panthers second-round pick Greg Little is moving on to his third team in five seasons.

Doesn’t it seem like the Carolina Panthers drafted Greg Little way longer than four years ago?

Nonetheless, the former second-round selection is on to his third team in five seasons—having agreed to a deal with the Houston Texans. Little’s agent, David Canter of GSE Worldwide, broke the news on Twitter earlier this afternoon.

The Ole Miss offensive tackle was pursued by the Panthers at Pick No. 37 in 2019, a position they swapped up to thanks to the Seattle Seahawks. In return for the 10-spot jump, Carolina shipped off that year’s 47th selection—one used on Utah safety Marquise Blair—as well as the 77th, which was then flipped by Seattle to trade up for eventual Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf.

Little went on to appear in 14 games for the Panthers between 2019 and 2020. Then, prior to the 2021 campaign, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins for a 2022 seventh-round pick—one that eventually turned into Baylor cornerback Kalon Barnes.

After his 2021 was cut short due to injury, Little played in all 17 games for the Dolphins in 2022. He recorded seven starts and 528 offensive snaps, with 243 coming at left tackle and 285 coming from the right.

Former Dolphins OT Greg Little signs with Texans

He’s done in Miami after two seasons.

After the 2023 NFL draft concluded, teams have jumped back into the free agent market, as they look to address needs that they weren’t able to during the league’s annual selection meeting.

On Thursday, the Miami Dolphins lost another one of their own free agents, as the Houston Texans have signed offensive tackle Greg Little, according to his new agent, David Canter.

Little spent the last two seasons with the Dolphins after being traded to the team from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a seventh-round pick before the start of the 2021 season.

Last season, Little was given a larger role due to injuries to both Austin Jackson and Terron Armstead. However, the 25-year-old struggled, receiving the lowest Pro Football Focus grade of all NFL offensive tackles (35.1).

Miami may not have fully addressed their offensive tackle needs this offseason, but they can find better options than Little elsewhere.

Dolphins free agent OT Greg Little hires new representation

He now shares an agent with multiple Dolphins.

Nearly five years ago, offensive tackle Greg Little was a promising NFL prospect after being drafted in the second round by the Carolina Panthers after a collegiate career at Ole Miss.

However, two years later, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins for a seventh-round pick. He didn’t play a single snap in his first season, and in 2022, when he was asked to fill in due to injuries to Austin Jackson and Terron Armstead, his performance was poor.

Little went from being the swing tackle option to sitting behind Brandon Shell on the right side.

Now, as Little remains on the free agent market, he’s hired David Canter to represent him and help him earn a second contract.

Canter has been working with a couple of other Dolphins recently, as he also represents Xavien Howard and just recently brought Kader Kohou in as a client as well.

After a tough stretch, Little could use a good salesman to find him a deal before the 2023 season.

Dolphins free agent preview: What’s next for OT Greg Little

He’s been unimpressive in his two seasons with Miami.

In less than a week, NFL teams can begin negotiating with and signing upcoming free agents at the start of the league year.

For the Miami Dolphins, 31 players from their 2022 roster are set to hit the market in some form or another – restricted, unrestricted or exclusive rights free agents. That includes offensive tackle Greg Little.

Little, 25, has spent the last two years with the Dolphins since being traded to South Florida from the Carolina Panthers for a seventh-round pick prior to the start of the 2021 season.

With Austin Jackson and Terron Armstead dealing with injuries this past season, Little was thrust into more playing time than normal. Pro Football Focus graded him as the worst offensive tackle in all of football (35.1 overall – 29.9 in pass protection and 41.7 in run-blocking).

While Miami is in need of some help at the position, specifically on the right side of the line, Little hasn’t done anything to prove that he’s deserving of a second contract in aqua and orange. There are plenty of suitable options for starters or depth in free agency and the draft.

Grading the Miami Dolphins offensive linemen after their 2022 season

How much better was the group from last year?

While the Miami Dolphins’ 2022 campaign is in the rearview, it’s a good time to look back at the season that was and reflect on some of the best and worst performances of the year.

We’re going through different positions and reviewing how they played in their first season under head coach Mike McDaniel. And, after starting with the quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends, we’ll round out the offense with the big boys up front.

These are the grades for the Dolphins offensive linemen during the 2022 season.

4 free agents Dolphins shouldn’t re-sign this offseason

They can spend money wiser.

The Miami Dolphins were eliminated from the NFL’s postseason tournament after losing to the Buffalo Bills on wild-card weekend. Now, they’ll have an opportunity to get an early start on their offseason plans.

While there have already been changes made to their coaching staff, general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel also have some work to do with their roster.

31 players from their 2022 roster are set to hit the free-agent market at the start of the new league year, but Miami would probably be smart to avoid re-signing these four.

Dolphins RT Greg Little, RG Robert Hunt leave Week 3 battle with Bills

Larnel Coleman came in at RT, and Robert Jones is in at RG.

During the second quarter of the Miami Dolphins’ Week 3 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, the team suffered injuries on three straight plays.

First, right guard Robert Hunt was injured. Then, Tua Tagovailoa went down due to a roughing the passer penalty. On the third play, it was right tackle Greg Little who needed medical attention due to a hand injury.

To protect backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, Robert Jones came in for Hunt, and elevated practice squad tackle Larnel Coleman entered for Little.

Miami entered halftime tied 14-14 with Buffalo, but none of three returned to action before the break. It’s unclear whether any will play in the second half.

UPDATE: Hunt returned to action at right tackle.

2022 Dolphins positional preview: The offensive line is improved, but there are still questions

There are still two questionable spots.

The 2021 edition of the Miami Dolphins got one of the worst offensive line performances among all of the teams in the NFL.

Between inexperienced coaches and poor effort, the line wasn’t able to protect quarterback Tua Tagovailoa or get any push for the team’s running game. As a result, the offense struggled to string drives together, keeping them from a postseason birth for the fifth straight season.

With the Dolphins ready to hit the field for training camp near the end of the month, it’s as good of a time as any to assess the roster. We’ve touched on quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends, so, today, we’re focusing on the big men up front.
