Report: Browns to sign QB Jake Dolegala

Report: Browns to sign QB Jake Dolegala to help the depleted roster for Week 15

Faced with COVID-19 attrition at the NFL’s most important position, the Cleveland Browns are desperate for depth at quarterback for Saturday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Desperation, thy name is Jake Dolegala.

Per Zac Jackson of The Athletic, the Browns are signing free agent QB Jake Dolegala. The former undrafted free agent from Central Connecticut State is in his third NFL season, though he’s never been on an active roster for a regular season game. He’s had practice squad and preseason stints with the Bengals, Patriots, Packers and Dolphins.

Dolegala helps fill the chasm on the depth chart created when starter Baker Mayfield and backup Case Keenum each tested positive for COVID-19 this week. Nick Mullens is the current starter, with FB Johnny Stanton, a QB in college, in pencil as the emergency option prior to signing Dolegala.

Dolphins cut Jake Dolegala from practice squad, sign Sheldrick Redwine

The Dolphins added a quarterback Wednesday and moved on from one Thursday.

The Dolphins made two moves Thursday morning, both involving the practice squad, as Miami released quarterback Jake Dolegala and signed safety Sheldrick Redwine.

Dolegala signed with the practice squad at the end of October after the Dolphins lost third-string quarterback Reid Sinnett to Philadelphia on waivers. During his three weeks with the team, Dolegala was never elevated to the active roster despite Tua Tagovailoa dealing with a finger injury that kept him from starting. Miami signed Jake Luton Wednesday to the practice squad, so the team will still carry three quarterbacks.

Redwine was waived Tuesday to make room for Jamal Perry, who the Dolphins signed from their own practice squad. In the safety’s three weeks with the active roster, he never saw the field and was actually forced to miss a game due to disciplinary reasons.

Dolphins to sign QB Jake Dolegala to their practice squad

There’s a new QB in Miami.

After third-string quarterback Reid Sinnett was waived on Saturday to make room for wide receiver Isaiah Ford from the practice squad, the Dolphins were hoping that Sinnett would clear waivers and end up back on the practice squad himself.

However, the Eagles claimed Sinnett on Monday, leaving Miami with just two quarterbacks.

On Wednesday, during his media availability, head coach Brian Flores announced that the team would be signing quarterback Jake Dolegala to their practice squad.

Dolegala went undrafted in 2019 out of Central Connecticut and has jumped around between the Cincinnati Bengals, Green Bay Packers, and New England Patriots since then.

According to NFL.com, Dolegala’s only game action has come in three preseason games where he completed 37 of his 54 pass attempts for 347 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

The move seems to be pretty inconsequential for now, but, in today’s game, your quarterback room could be ruled out any time due to COVID protocols.

Packers waive QB Jake Dolegala, sign CB Rojesterman Farris

The Packers waived QB Jake Dolegala, which strongly suggests Jordan Love will play against the Bills in the preseason finale on Saturday.

Expect Jordan Love to play on Saturday against the Buffalo Bills.

The Green Bay Packers released backup quarterback Jake Dolegala on Friday, which strongly suggests Love will be healthy enough to play in the preseason finale in Buffalo.

Aaron Rodgers won’t play, but releasing Dolegala leaves the Packers with only Love and third-stringer quarterback Kurt Benkert behind him. Coach Matt LaFleur said Love, if he played Saturday, would see action into the second half, with Benkert playing after.

Dolegala played one series last Saturday against the New York Jets, throwing an interception on one pass attempt.

The Packers also signed cornerback Rojesterman Farris (5-11, 179), an undrafted free agent out of Hawaii in 2020 who has spent time with the Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears.

General manager Brian Gutekunst added two cornerbacks this week, signing Farris and Stephen Denmark.

With Jordan Love injured, Packers to re-sign QB Jake Dolegala

The Packers are bringing back QB Jake Dolegala as insurance with Jordan Love still nursing a shoulder injury.

The Green Bay Packers reduced their roster to 85 players on Tuesday, but general manager Brian Gutekunst will have to clear at least one more spot this week.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers will sign quarterback Jake Dolegala as a backup option with Jordan Love still nursing a shoulder injury.

This will be Dolegala’s second stint in Green Bay.

Dolegala, an undrafted free agent from Central Connecticut State, was originally signed by the Packers on June 10 following a tryout during the offseason workout program. The team released him at the start of training camp, a result of Aaron Rodgers returning to Green Bay after a summer of uncertainty.

The Packers need depth at quarterback again.

Love injured his shoulder during the preseason opener and may not be able to play against the New York Jets on Saturday. Rodgers won’t play in the preseason, necessitating an addition at quarterback. It’s possible Dolegala and Kurt Benkert will take all the reps against the Jets.

Coach Matt LaFleur said Love was feeling “significantly better” but the Packers couldn’t risk only having Rodgers and Benkert available at quarterback. In Dolegala, the team returns a passer who has experience in the offense.

Dolegala spent a few weeks with the New England Patriots after departing Green Bay. He will need to pass a physical before signing. The move could become official on Wednesday.

Patriots claim QB Jake Dolegala off waivers from Green Bay

New England has added another quarterback to their roster.

The New England Patriots showed they are constantly looking to upgrade their roster, as they made a move on the first day of training camp sessions.

New England has claimed quarterback Jake Dolegala off waivers from the Green Bay Packers, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Dolegala is no stranger to the Patriots’ locker room, however, as he spent 2020 with the team. Following the season finale against the Jets, Dolegala signed a futures contract with New England, but he was waived after Bill Belichick drafted Mac Jones in the first round.

The 24-year-old has been with three teams in his short career since going undrafted out of Central Connecticut in 2019 and has yet to see the field for game action.

The Patriots appear to have an open competition for their quarterback spot this season with Jones being the first-round pick and Cam Newton as the returning veteran.

Beyond those two, New England also has Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer in camp. However, the former is currently on the PUP list and is not participating in practices at this time. He is likely to miss extended time, per The Athletic’s Jeff Howe.

This move gives the team another camp arm who knows the system, and it doesn’t seem to be much more than that.

Packers releasing QB Jake Dolegala

The Packers are releasing another quarterback after the return of Aaron Rodgers.

Another quarterback is gone from Green Bay after the return of Aaron Rodgers.

According to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic, the Packers are releasing Jake Dolegala, who signed in Green Bay in June.

Rob Demovsky of ESPN reported earlier Tuesday that the Packers are releasing Blake Bortles.

Dolegala, an undrafted free agent who spent much of the 2020 season with the New England Patriots, gave the Packers extra depth at quarterback when Rodgers’ future with the team was uncertain. Rodgers reported to the start of training camp on Tuesday and will play the 2021 season in Green Bay.

With both Dolegala and Bortles gone, the Packers have three quarterbacks left on the roster: Rodgers, Jordan Love and Kurt Benkert.

One thing to note: Dolegala was in possession of the No. 18, the same number worn by Randall Cobb, who is expected to be back in Green Bay via trade.

Packers signing tryout QB Jake Dolegala to roster

The Packers are signing a fifth quarterback to the 90-man offseason roster.

Quarterback Jake Dolegala impressed enough during his three-day tryout with the Green Bay Packers to earn a spot on the team’s roster.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers are signing Dolegala, who was on the field with the team as a tryout player over the last three days of minicamp.

Dolegala, who spent much of last year in New England, is now the fifth quarterback on the Packers roster.

Dolegala, Jordan Love, Blake Bortles and Kurt Benkert handled all the quarterback snaps during minicamp between Tuesday and Thursday.

Aaron Rodgers, the 2020 MVP, skipped the offseason workout program and minicamp amidst an ongoing conflict with the organization. It is unclear at this point if Rodgers will be reporting to training camp in late July. Having four other quarterbacks on the roster will protect against Rodgers not showing up to camp.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, the Packers will be releasing defensive lineman Anthony Rush to make room for Dolegala on the 90-man offseason roster.

Dolegala, a record-holding passer from Central Connecticut State, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2019.

Falcons invite QB Jake Dolegala, LB Curtis Bolton to rookie minicamp

Five NFL hopefuls, including 6-foot-7 former Central Connecticut quarterback Jake Dolegala and Oklahoma linebacker Curtis Bolton, have been invited to the Atlanta Falcons’ 2021 rookie minicamp.

Five NFL hopefuls, including 6-foot-7 quarterback Jake Dolegala and former Oklahoma linebacker Curtis Bolton, have been invited to the Atlanta Falcons’ 2021 rookie minicamp.

The team’s three-day tryout — which runs from May 14-16 — will also feature UCLA defensive lineman Eli Ankou, Wisconsin defensive lineman Olive Sagapolu and Ohio State wide receiver C.J. Saunders, Atlanta announced on Friday.

The Falcons have previously added 20 undrafted free agents and nine draft picks, including first-round pick Kyle Pitts out of Florida. These players will look to make an impression on first-year head coach Arthur Smith’s staff over the weekend as the team is in desperate need for depth.

Patriots sign 10 players to futures contracts for 2021

New England retains a quarterback, two kickers and three receivers.

The New England Patriots have signed ten players to futures contracts for 2021, with one quarterback, three receivers, one guard, two kickers, two defensive tackles and one cornerback.

All ten of the players came off New England’s practice squad from 2020. Teams can extend futures contracts to anyone who wasn’t on a roster at the end of Week 17.

These contracts don’t take effect until the 2021 NFL season begins in March when the players will be added to the 90-man roster. The futures contracts are generally minimum-salary deals, with little or no signing bonus. The Patriots did not announce the terms to any of these deals.
