With no Alabama or Auburn, SEC Championship ticket prices at 3-year low

SEC Championship tickets for Georgia football vs LSU are at a three-year low.

This Saturday will mark the first time since 2011 that neither Alabama or Auburn has represented the SEC West in the conference championship.

That 2011 season featured LSU and Georgia meeting in Atlanta, same as this Saturday, with the Tigers beating the Bulldogs 42-10 (hopefully not same as this Saturday).

For this weekend, prices have been trending downward over the last two weeks, though it will still cost you a pretty penny to see your team play for the SEC title.

The current average price for Saturday’s game is $822 (down 36% over the last two weeks) and the get-in price is at $257 (down 27% over that same time frame).

Compared to the last eight SEC Championships, LSU vs Georgia is on the more expensive end when talking get-in prices. Georgia’s 2017 matchup with Auburn was by far the most expensive SEC Championship Game we have seen.

Look at the Georgia vs LSU get-in price for 2019 compared to the last time the two teams met in Atlanta in 2011. The price has more than doubled. Then again, in 2011, Georgia already had two losses on its record and did not have a shot at playing for a national title.

While SEC championship prices are at their lowest point since the opening of the new Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the cheapest national championship ticket is currently above $1,000, making it the 4th most expensive championship that ticket vendor TicketIQ has tracked.

If LSU is able to reach the national title game, prices could continue to move up, as TicketIQ detailed in this blog post.

Kirby Smart on SECCG: LSU will be the ‘ultimate test’

Nobody is giving Georgia much of a chance this weekend in the SEC Championship Game vs LSU.

But then again, nobody was giving Georgia much of a chance to even be in this situation after losing to South Carolina in October.

Hey, here we are. For the third year in a row, mind you.

The Dawgs have faced some awfully tough challenges over the last three seasons. Remember, this is the same quarterback, same running back, much of the same offensive line and defensive players that came one play away from winning the national championship two years ago. These Dawgs know what it takes to win. They know what the big stage feels like. To them, this is just another big game.

Kirby Smart finds himself making another trip back to Atlanta for the third time in four years as head coach of the Bulldogs. He’s gone up against some explosive offenses during his tenure at Georgia, too, but none better than this LSU group.

“It’s as explosive of a team as I’ve ever seen on tape,” Smart said. “This will be as great a challenge as we’ve had since I’ve been here, as far as playing an opponent.

They have an outstanding all-around team. It’s a tremendous opportunity to measure where you are when you get an opportunity to play a team like this that’s firing on all cylinders.”

For LSU, the Tigers’ offense ranks No. 1 or No. 2 in just about every category. So when Smart says this as explosive of a team as he’s ever seen, that’s not just him hyping up his opponent as he tends to do. He’s being real with us.

But luckily for Georgia, the Dawgs possess the nation’s top defense. And just like LSU, Georgia is No. 1 or No. 2 in just about every defensive category.

And they did not get to that point off of star power. They got there by playing as a whole and everybody doing their jobs.

“We don’t have the natural star power on our defense,” Smart said. “A lot of the defenses I’ve coached had three or four first-rounders.

“This group plays hard and plays together.”

Smart’s teams have gone up against some of the best in the last decade of college football. That will be more of the same on Saturday, but if Georgia can control the clock and force Joe Burrow to stay off the field, I like our chances.

“This obviously will be the ultimate test,” Smart said. “(LSU has) the best offensive unit we’ve played, all the way around, and it’s really not even close.”

The two teams play completely different styles of football. For Georgia to win this game, it will need to control the clock, run the ball on LSU and force Joe Burrow and the Tigers’ offense to watch from the sideline. If that happens, I like Georgia’s chances. If Georgia’s offense sputters and proves incapable of converting on third down, then the Dawgs will be in trouble.

We can count on our defense to give us as good of a shot as possible, but if the offense does not help them out then things could get ugly.

George Pickens to miss first half of SEC Championship Game

Georgia freshman WR George Pickens will be suspended for the first half of next week’s SEC Championship Game against LSU in Atlanta.

Following a less-than-civil confrontation in today’s beating of the Bees, Georgia freshman wide receiver George Pickens will be suspended for the first half of next week’s SEC Championship Game against Louisiana State in Atlanta.

Kirby Smart confirmed the suspension in his post-game press conference following a 45-point win at Georgia Tech.

Jim Coley’s offense will already be without the injured Lawrence Cager, who leads the team with 476 receiving yards in 2019.

Pickens is only 19 yards behind with one fewer reception (32) and one more touchdown (5) than Cager.

The freshman out of Hoover, Alabama was previously suspended for the first half of today’s game against Georgia Tech for a “team matter” upon which Kirby Smart would not elaborate.

Missing two of the biggest deep threats on the roster, the Bulldogs offense will need to get creative in the first half of the looming conference championship.

It’s the final weekend of the college football regular season. Wow…how sad is that?

Very sad is the answer to that question, but on the bright side we are in for a good day of college football.

Alabama vs Auburn and Ohio State vs Michigan headline what will be an exciting Saturday. Additionally, fans will also be able to enjoy a ranked matchup between Wisconsin and Minnesota plus Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

With the Dawgs playing LSU in the SEC Championship the following weekend, I’m looking forward to watching how the Tigers handle Texas A&M, which Georgia struggled against last weekend.

Speaking of the SEC Championship, currently, the get-in price for the conference title game is $341 and the average is now $995. The get-in price has only dropped just over 2% in the last week, but the average list price has gone down 23% over that same time frame. I’d be curious to see what would happen to those prices if LSU were to lose this weekend seeing as how it would then be a win-or-go-home battle for both teams.

As for this weekend, Georgia fans’ wallets will get a bit of a break if they want to see the Dawgs take on Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Currently, Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate is the weekend’s ninth most expensive game, with a get-in price of $98. For Georgia fans, that’s not too bad; for Tech fans, this is the Yellow Jackets’s most expensive game of the season.

Minnesota at Wisconsin claims the title of most expensive ticket this weekend with tickets starting $257, followed by the Iron Bowl at $165.

Georgia football injury report ahead of UGA vs Tech game

Take a look at Georgia footballs injury status prior to UGA’s final game of their regular season before LSU at Georgia Tech.

Georgia defeated the Texas A&M Aggies this Saturday in a cold and rainy matchup by a final score of 19-13. A win is a win, but man wouldn’t it be nice to close some teams out strong?

The Dawgs didn’t look bad in the first half, nearly covering the 13-point spread they were given prior to the game. It was the 2nd half that made Bulldog fans scratch their heads.

The Aggies outscored Georgia 10-6 in the 2nd half. That is a pretty bad look for a No. 4 team, but give credit to a hard-fought, Jimbo Fisher coached team.

Now the Dawgs have just one more opponent left before facing LSU in the SEC Championship game, and that is Georgia Tech.

With LSU looming, the Dawgs will look to be as healthy as possible for that game.

Stokes left the Texas A&M game just before halftime after he got a little dinged up on a hit. Kirby Smart did not seem concerned about the matter. Expect Stokes to be ready to go.

Campbell has been playing through a toe injury for the past couple of weeks but is cleared to play against Tech.

Probable: OL Cade Mays

Mays has been nursing an ankle injury since the Missouri game. He dressed against A&M but was very limited, as is expected next week in order to save him for LSU.

Questionable: WR Trey Blount

Blount is listed as questionable with an undisclosed injury.

Questionable: WR Lawrence Cager

Cager has been battling a left shoulder injury nearly the entire season. Even missing a number of games, Cager is still the Dawgs leader in receptions and receiving yards. Expect Cager to get minimal time if any to rest him up for the SEC Championship game vs LSU.

OUT: WR Tommy Bush

Bush has been recovering from a sports hernia and will likely be out for the year.

OUT: DT Tramel Walthour

Walthour is battling a lower-body injury and has no timetable for his return.

OUT: OL Owen Condon

Condon has been battling a lower-body injury all year and Saturday was seen in a sling. Should likely be out for season.

OUT: OL Justin Shaffer

Shaffer was in a neck brace for the A&M game and has no timetable for his return.

OUT: QB D’Wan Mathis

Freshman quarterback D’wan Mathis is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to remove a cyst from his brain this offseason. There is no current timetable for Mathis’ return.

We have a great SEC matchup on Saturday when the Texas A&M Aggies come to Sanford Stadium to take on the number four Georgia Bulldogs. With rain expected in the forecast, we should see a lot of Zamir White on the ground for Georgia so the Aggies will have to have their battle-tested defensive line ready.

The Aggies will look to knock off a top-25 team for the first time this season, they had trouble with Alabama, Auburn, and Clemson but they have this game circled as their chance to knock Georgia out of the SEC Championship. Nothing is guaranteed at Sanford Stadium as we’ve already seen South Carolina come in there as underdogs and beat Georgia on their home field this year.

The Bulldogs will need to shut down Texas A&M’s run game and make them a one-dimensional team by flushing the pocket and making Kellen Mond throw the ball. Georgia will count on their defense once again this year to continue to hold teams to an average of 10.5 points a game. With rain in the forecast today, I don’t see them throwing the ball much which may benefit both teams as they have high powered running backs that can really kick it into high gear when needed.

Prediction: Georgia’s offense hasn’t been hot as of late and with some injuries on that side of the ball they may struggle today against a strong Aggies defense. There will be rain in the forecast so expect a lot of ground and pound running from both sides. Thirteen points is a lot of points to give Texas A&M at this point in the year. Take the under (43.5) and the points as the Aggies (+13) give the Bulldogs some tough sledding.

After a 21-14 win against Auburn on the road, Georgia (9-1) qualified for the SEC Championship game. Who the Bulldogs will play is still undecided. Georgia’s plan for the season has been to control the clock and the tempo of the game. That’s not going to be easy against an Aggie’s bunch that relies heavily on their running backs. Against Auburn, Bulldogs quarterback Jake Fromm went 13-for-28 with 110 yards and three touchdowns, while running back D’Andre Swift ran for 106 yards on 17 carries. Fromm is efficient, yet hasn’t thrown for more than 175 yards in three of his last four games. Against a run-heavy Aggies team, Georgia’s No. 3 ranked defense has the chance to shine. Only three teams have run for 100 yards or more against the Bulldogs.

While many think Georgia will coast into the SEC Championship game, don’t sleep on Texas A&M. The Aggies (7-3) got their fourth win in a row after a 30-6 victory vs. South Carolina last weekend, outscoring the Gamecocks 17-3 in the second half. That performance moved them to No. 24 in the country. It was an important win for A&M considering South Carolina is the only team Georgia has lost to this season. Quarterback Kellen Mond threw for 221 yards and one touchdown while running back Cordarrian Richardson tallied 130 yards on just six carries and running back Isaiah Spiller rushed for 129 yards. Over the last four games, the Aggies haven’t allowed a team to complete more than 46 percent of its passes, haven’t given up a touchdown throw in three of those four and are allowing fewer than six yards per pass.

USA TODAY has releases their weekly SEC power rankings ahead of week 13. See where Georgia football ranks among the rest of the SEC.

The buzz around college football has been that after the South Carolina loss, Georgia controls its own destiny… and control it they have.

The Dawgs remain at No. 4 in the rankings following a 21-14 win over Auburn, and secured a ticket to the SEC Championship game.

USA TODAY’s SEC power rankings have Georgia at the No. 2 spot, dropping Alabama to No. 3 and LSU taking the No. 1 spot.

On Georgia, Horka said:

“It surely wasn’t an offensive exhibition from the Bulldogs in their big win over Auburn, but a win is a win regardless. It’s looks likely that Georgia will meet LSU in the SEC Championship game, but it doesn’t look like the Dawgs will be able to go blow for blow with Burrow and company.”

How to buy parking for the 2019 SEC Championship Game before it’s too late.

With Georgia clinching its third-straight SEC East title on Saturday, it’s time to start thinking about Atlanta.

Sure, there’s the annual clash with the North Avenue Trade School the weekend after Thanksgiving, but we’re talking about the real contest in Atlanta.

The SEC Championship Game, of course.

An essential part of any tailgate is “where to park?” Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta has a variety of tailgating options. These include the infamous “Gulch” next to the stadium, to the upscale The Home Depot Backyard, to an immersive RV experience at The Marshalling Yard.

In past years, parking for the SEC Championship has sold out quickly, and prices for parking passes are often listed for 4x – 10x face value on the secondary market.

By going to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium website, Georgia fans may purchase parking for their tailgate at face value now before spots are sold out.

The rules for tailgating at Mercedes-Benz Stadium are as follows:

• Tailgating before events is allowed in all flat parking lots, and is specifically prohibited in the campus multi-level garages. When purchasing lots from parking.mercedesbenzstadium.com, look for the tailgating icon.

• Vehicles may take up only one parking space, and tailgating equipment may not extend beyond the parking space, or impede vehicles driving through the lot.

• Grills, chairs, coolers and other equipment may not take up a parking space. Tailgating is confined to the area directly behind the vehicle.

• Adjacent landscaped areas are common areas and may not be claimed exclusively.

• Dispose of trash in appropriate receptacles. Dispose of coals in coal containers provided in the lots.

We hope to see a sea of red in Atlanta both on 11/30 and 12/7 for what could be two extra special days for Dawg Nation.
