Georgia Bulldogs OL transfers to SMU

The Georgia Bulldogs lost some depth along the offensive line when Owen Condon announced his transfer to the SMU Mustangs football program.

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Owen Condon has transferred to the SMU Mustangs football program. Condon has played in 22 career games for Georgia across four seasons.

The 6-foot-7, 310-pound senior out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, should have more opportunities for playing time at SMU. Condon faced stout competition along the offensive line at Georgia.

He played in 14 out of 15 games for UGA in 2021, but primarily had a reserve role after starting the 2020 season opener against Arkansas. Condon will hope to start for SMU. Condon is a former three-star recruit from Bishop McGuinness High School.

The Bulldogs are losing a pair of offensive line starters in Jamaree Salyer and Justin Shaffer to the 2022 NFL draft. Georgia will reload with elite offensive line talent like Broderick Jones, Amarius Mims, and more.

Owen Condon announced his transfer to SMU via his Twitter account:

We wish Condon luck at SMU. He is transferring a little bit closer to home and should have a big role for the Mustangs in the American Athletic Conference.

Report: Georgia football OL enters NCAA transfer portal

Per a report from On3, reserve OL Owen Condon has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Per a report from Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports, Georgia backup offensive lineman Owen Condon has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Condon, a former three star recruit in the class of 2018 out of Oklahoma City, redshirted his freshman season in 2018. In 2019, Condon saw 15 snaps against Arkansas State. He saw action in four games in 2020, including one start in the season-opening win at Arkansas. This past season, Condon played in 14 of the 15 games as a reserve offensive lineman.

He was likely to be a third or fourth string right tackle this season for the Bulldogs, backing up Warren McClendon, Amarius Mims and/or Micah Morris, depending on what direction new offensive line coach Stacy Searels was planning on taking with the line.

The 6-foot-7, 310 pound lineman will be a redshirt senior this season.

Condon signed with the Dawgs back in 2017.

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Owen Condon came to the University of Georgia as a three-star recruit. Condon redshirted as a freshman in 2018. He played in only one game last season, against Arkansas State. He saw 15 snaps n that contest.

Condon will compete with Xavier Truss, Jamaree Salyer, Warren Ericson, Justin Shaffer, Warren McClendon, Broderick Jones, and more for playing time. Condon is projected to be a depth player next season, but don’t count him out. He’s got great size at six-foot-seven and Georgia lost several starters along the offensive front from last season.

Georgia Bulldogs offensive line coach Matt Luke isn’t short on talent despite losing three players to the 2020 NFL Draft. Condon did pick up some experience as a freshman, where he played in three games.

Georgia can dominate the offensive trenches in 2020

The University of Georgia football team lost an abundance of talent in the offensive trenches this off-season.

Kirby Smart and the University of Georgia lost an abundance of talent in the trenches this off-season. Georgia is losing four starting offensive linemen from the 2019 season. Kirby Smart recruits aggressively so the Dawgs can reload and not rebuild.

Center Trey Hill will be the only returning start from 2019’s line. That doesn’t mean UGA will lack talent in 2020. The Bulldogs return numerous offensive linemen  (in addition to Hill) with valuable experience including: Justin Shaffer (now healthy), Ben Cleveland, and Jamaree Salyer. Georgia will need each of their experience in the week three trip to Tuscaloosa to face Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

In fact, Georgia’s returning linemen are among the best in the SEC, per PFF’s Brent Rollins:

Georgia will have three of the top-graded returning nine offensive linemen in the SEC. The Dawgs additionally added five-star offensive tackle Broderick Jones, four-star Tate Ratledge, top-rated center Sedrick Van Pran, four-star offensive tackle Chad Lindberg, and a pair of three-star linemen in the class of 2020.

One of the talented newcomers will likely work their way into the line-up, possibly two. Georgia also returns Warren Ericson, who started at right guard in the Sugar Bowl against Baylor, 2019 five-star center Clay Webb, Warren McClendon, Xavier Truss, Owen Condon, and more.

The biggest question mark for UGA is who will replace stud left tackle Andrew Thomas? That may be too big of an adjustment for five-star freshman Broderick Jones, but he’s the best bet to take over that position. Aside from left tackle, quality depth is the second biggest concern along Georgia’s offensive line. Kirby Smart will rely on new offensive line coach Matt Luke to get the most of the talented group.

Georgia football injury report ahead of UGA vs Tech game

Take a look at Georgia footballs injury status prior to UGA’s final game of their regular season before LSU at Georgia Tech.

Georgia defeated the Texas A&M Aggies this Saturday in a cold and rainy matchup by a final score of 19-13.  A win is a win, but man wouldn’t it be nice to close some teams out strong?

The Dawgs didn’t look bad in the first half, nearly covering the 13-point spread they were given prior to the game. It was the 2nd half that made Bulldog fans scratch their heads.

The Aggies outscored Georgia 10-6 in the 2nd half.  That is a pretty bad look for a No. 4 team, but give credit to a hard-fought, Jimbo Fisher coached team.

Now the Dawgs have just one more opponent left before facing LSU in the SEC Championship game, and that is Georgia Tech.

With LSU looming, the Dawgs will look to be as healthy as possible for that game.

Probable: DB Eric Stokes

Stokes left the Texas A&M game just before halftime after he got a little dinged up on a hit.  Kirby Smart did not seem concerned about the matter.  Expect Stokes to be ready to go.

Probable: DB Tyson Campbell

Campbell has been playing through a toe injury for the past couple of weeks but is cleared to play against Tech.

Probable: OL Cade Mays

Mays has been nursing an ankle injury since the Missouri game.  He dressed against A&M but was very limited, as is expected next week in order to save him for LSU.

Questionable: WR Trey Blount

Blount is listed as questionable with an undisclosed injury.

Questionable: WR Lawrence Cager

Cager has been battling a left shoulder injury nearly the entire season.  Even missing a number of games, Cager is still the Dawgs leader in receptions and receiving yards.  Expect Cager to get minimal time if any to rest him up for the SEC Championship game vs LSU.

OUT: WR Tommy Bush

Bush has been recovering from a sports hernia and will likely be out for the year.

OUT: DT Tramel Walthour

Walthour is battling a lower-body injury and has no timetable for his return.

OUT: OL Owen Condon

Condon has been battling a lower-body injury all year and Saturday was seen in a sling.  Should likely be out for season.

OUT: OL Justin Shaffer

Shaffer was in a neck brace for the A&M game and has no timetable for his return.

OUT: QB D’Wan Mathis

Freshman quarterback D’wan Mathis is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to remove a cyst from his brain this offseason.  There is no current timetable for Mathis’ return.

Georgia football injury report for UGA vs Auburn game

UGA football is banged up heading into the Georgia vs Auburn football game.

The No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs are coming off of a 27-0 smackdown of Missouri, as well as a massive win over Florida the week prior.  The Dawgs have been rolling with a three game win streak since the hiccup of South Carolina.

Approaching week 12 comes Georgia’s biggest game thus far, a chance to secure its 3rd straight trip to the SEC Championship.

Auburn is currently ranked No. 12 with a record of 7-2, 4-2 in SEC. Its two loss season is not to be overlooked as the Tigers lost close games at No. 10 Florida and No. 1 LSU.

Last weekend vs Missouri, Georgia won, but it came at cost. The Dawgs lost a few players to injuries throughout the game, but for the most part nothing looks too serious.

Probable: WR Lawrence Cager

Cager aggravated his shoulder last game and did not return.  The Dawgs leading receiver has been practicing this week and is expected to play on Saturday.  Having Cager against Auburn will be crucial, as he has become Fromm’s favorite target this season.

Probable: WR Tyler Simmons

Simmons’ shoulder has been bothering for a majority of the season but he should be good to go.

Probable: OL Cade Mays

Mays left the Missouri game with a hurt ankle but has indicated that he is fine.

Probable: CB Tyson Campbell

Campbell missed a significant chunk of the season with turf toe but played vs Missouri and said he felt great out there.
