Georgia Tech fires head coach Geoff Collins

Who should Georgia Tech hire to replace him?

Add another college football program to the list of those looking for a head coach as Georgia Tech fired Geoff Collins from the post on Monday.  The Yellow Jackets went just 10-28 overall and 7-19 during Collins’ tenure, never winning more than three games in a single season.

Georgia Tech was off to a truly woeful start this season as they were 1-3 following Saturday’s 27-10 loss at UCF.  In three games against FBS opponents this year they were outscored by a total of 110-20.

I get the expectations for Georgia Tech aren’t sky-high or to win ACC Championships on the regular, but this is a far cry from the program that earned a postseason bowl berth each year from 1997-2014.

Could Deion Sanders be the next head coach in Atlanta?  It would certainly be a move that would draw attention to the program, and likely improve the overall talent.

Baseball: Irish fall short in finale, still takes series over Georgia Tech

Just missed a home series sweep

The first two games of the home series against Georgia Tech saw the Irish do what they have done all year, which was win. Unfortunately, Sunday’s final game of the series the bats came up short and so did Notre Dame, falling 4-2 to the Yellow Jackets.

It was a game-long battle with GT, as Tech jumped out to an early 1-0 lead only to see the Irish battle back and get ahead 2-1 after six inning. The Yellow Jackets then scored three unanswered runs, to get to the final tally.

Star first-baseman Niko Kavadas had two hits while right fielder Ryan Cole and shortstop Zack Prajzner each drove in a run.

Even though Sunday wasn’t a completion of a sweep, it was still a series win over a ranked opponent, GT was No. 14 coming into the weekend. One of two conference teams to have single-digit losses, Link Jarrett’s turnaround of the program has been spectacular.

The Irish get back on the field this Tuesday as they host Central Michigan during a mid-week contest.

Watch: Williams TD gives Notre Dame lead back over Georgia Tech

Notre Dame running back Kyren Williams scores a short touchdown to give Notre Dame the lead back over Georgia Tech.

We’ve seen this before, Notre Dame running back Kyren Williams fumbles, gets mad at himself, shakes it off and finds the endzone to redeem himself. It happened against Florida State and it happened once again today vs. Georgia Tech.

Williams fumble was costly in this game, as Georgia Tech scooped and scored to even the game at 7. The sophomore made up for it on the ensuing drive to give Notre Dame the lead back, 14-7 early in the second quarter.

Gordon Hayward shares a photo of ‘Stache Gordon’ Jr. on Instagram

Boston Celtics veteran forward Gordon Hayward has jokes about his facial hair and his new baby.

You really can see the familial resemblance.

Sharing an obviously-photoshopped picture of his infant son Gordon “GT” Hayward V asleep on his chest, “Stache” Gordon — as Hayward has come to be called after sporting a throwback moustache throughout much of the Disney restart bubble — wrote “It’s hard to believe how much GT looks like me!” Monday evening in an Instagram post making light of his facial hair.

The youngest Hayward was born while the Celtics wing was in the Disney bubble doing his best to try and get Boston back to the NBA Finals for the first time in a decade.

And while that effort ultimately fell short of the team’s lofty postseason goals, it certainly wasn’t for a lack of effort on Hayward’s part.

Playing on an ankle that was in truth at least two weeks away from being fully healed after a severe sprain in the Celtics’ first-round series with the Philadelphia 76ers, Boston just didn’t have the experience and health to get past a determined Miami Heat squad in the Eastern Conference Finals.

And while it’s certainly possible that moustache may have used up all its luck getting Boston deep enough for the former Bulldog to return to the floor, it will have to wait until next season to test whether doubling up on Hayward ‘staches will be enough to get Boston to the Finals.

On Gordon Hayward, and making the most of things

Look: Former UGA HC Mark Richt poses in Georgia Tech gear

Former UGA football HC Mark Richt posed in a Georgia Tech sweatshirt while touring the campus with the ACC Network.

Mark Richt, 60, coached at Georgia for 15 seasons before finishing his career with three years at Miami.

Now a college football analyst with the ACC Network, Richt tweeted that he plans on visiting each campus in the conference in an attempt to “get to know each program better.”

Richt kicked things off with a visit to Clemson, and then traveled to Atlanta for an inside look at the Georgia Tech program, one of his biggest rivals during his long coaching career.

But what Richt was wearing caused Georgia fans to do a double take just to make sure that it’s the same man who coached between the hedges for 15 seasons.

Richt was donning a Georgia Tech quarter-zip and tweeted a photo of himself with the caption: “Don’t tell anyone!”

He also dined with Tech head coach Geoff Collins at the Waffle House.

While at Georgia, Richt compiled a 13-2 record vs Georgia Tech, with the two losses coming by a combined total of nine points.

Despite the fact that Richt is expected to drop any bias in order to do his job correctly, it’s likely that CMR still felt a hint of guilt while wearing those hideous colors.

Decade in review: How Georgia football performed against rivals

From the beginning of the 2010 to 2019, the Georgia Bulldogs posted over a .500 winning percentage against each of their rival programs.

We’ve reached the end of college football’s 2019 regular season. From the beginning of the 2010 regulation schedule to the culmination of the current year’s, the Georgia Bulldogs posted a .500 or better winning percentage against each of their rival programs.

The Dawgs won eight and lost two against in-state rival Georgia Tech, earning the past three Governor’s Cups in a row.

They went 8-3 vs. Auburn, including a victory in the 2017 SEC Championship Game, winning the past three meetings consecutively.

They posted a record of six wins and four losses vs. Florida, also winning three meetings in a row.

The Bulldogs went 8-2 in matchups against Tennessee, again with three successive wins.

Georgia’s worst rivalry record of the decade comes against South Carolina. The Bulldogs split 10 games against the Gamecocks, accumulating five wins and five losses.

Rivalry week: How UGA vs Georgia Tech ticket prices stack up to the rest of CFB

A look at UGA vs Georgia Tech ticket prices compared to the rest of college football this rivalry week. Plus looking the SEC Championship.

It’s the final weekend of the college football regular season. Wow…how sad is that?

Very sad is the answer to that question, but on the bright side we are in for a good day of college football.

Alabama vs Auburn and Ohio State vs Michigan headline what will be an exciting Saturday. Additionally, fans will also be able to enjoy a ranked matchup between Wisconsin and Minnesota plus Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

With the Dawgs playing LSU in the SEC Championship the following weekend, I’m looking forward to watching how the Tigers handle Texas A&M, which Georgia struggled against last weekend.

Speaking of the SEC Championship, currently, the get-in price for the conference title game is $341 and the average is now $995. The get-in price has only dropped just over 2% in the last week, but the average list price has gone down 23% over that same time frame. I’d be curious to see what would happen to those prices if LSU were to lose this weekend seeing as how it would then be a win-or-go-home battle for both teams.

As for this weekend, Georgia fans’ wallets will get a bit of a break if they want to see the Dawgs take on Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Currently, Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate is the weekend’s ninth most expensive game, with a get-in price of $98. For Georgia fans, that’s not too bad; for Tech fans, this is the Yellow Jackets’s most expensive game of the season.

Minnesota at Wisconsin claims the title of most expensive ticket this weekend with tickets starting $257, followed by the Iron Bowl at $165.

Georgia Tech QB in postgame interview: ‘THWG’

Georgia Tech QB James Graham kicked off the trash talk with UGA football.

Quarterback James Graham and Georgia Tech (3-8) took down NC State (4-7) Thursday night in Atlanta.

For the Yellow Jackets, you’d think they had just won the College Football Playoff after seeing the reactions from the players and fans on social media and in Bobby Dodd Stadium.

But in reality, the Jackets beat a Wolfpack team that came into the game with a 4-6 record.

Next week, Clean Old-Fashioned Hate is resumed for the 114th time when Georgia travels to Atlanta to play Tech.

Despite its 3-8 record, Tech is sounding awfully confident with the Bulldogs looming on the schedule.

Following a 28-26 win over NC State, Tech quarterback James Graham, who did in-fact have a nice game on Thursday, kicked off the trash talk between the Dawgs and Jackets in a postgame interview with FOX5’s Cody Chaffins.

“I’m ready for next week,” Graham said. “We’re going to show the world what’s up and hopefully we’ll get a win next week too.”

When asked what next week is going to mean to him, Graham said:

“THWG. To hell with Georgia.”
