Highly-coveted 2025 quarterback sets return visit with Florida

This blue-chip quarterback will be in the Swamp for the Tennessee game.

Florida football recruiting efforts have been on overdrive recently — not just in the month of June, but also stretching back into the spring months.

Among those wowed by what Billy Napier has cooking in the Swamp is four-star quarterback [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag] out of Findlay (Ohio) in the 2025 recruiting cycle, who came away from his early April visit with a scholarship offer and a high opinion on the Orange and Blue. Gators quarterback analyst Ryan O’Hara is also feeling very bullish on the rising high school junior.

“We are a go for Sept. 16 at the Swamp! Can’t wait!” Montgomery’s father Mike told Gators Online. This visit date coincides with Florida’s SEC opener against the Tennessee Volunteers.

While there is still plenty of time for the 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound passer to whittle down his options, the Gators appear to have an inside track on him early thanks to O’Hara’s efforts.

“The biggest thing to date is his, mine, and even our HC’s relationship with O’Hara,” according to Gators Online. “One of the top recruiters of ours, no doubt. That said, we were very surprised with how cool everything was in our visit. Top-notch facilities, awesome campus, and seeing the Swamp. After that, it was a priority to get back for a game, hence the early-season visit.

“I am excited for us to get to know Nape more this fall, as I hear good things and he seems like a great guy from afar. I think the fit for Ry is there in scheme and school. I’m excited to see them take a step forward this fall.”

Montgomery is ranked No. 197 overall and No. 12 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 210 and 15, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Ohio State Buckeyes in the lead for his talents with a 24.1% chance of signing him, while the Michigan Wolverines (18.8%), Kentucky Wildcats (8.1%) and Penn State Nittany Lions (6.8%) trail behind.

2025 four-star QB showing ‘mutual interest’ with Florida

Florida is looking at quarterbacks from the class of 2025 once again and this Midwest signal caller is looking like a potential fit.

With Austin Simmons reclassified and flipped to Ole Miss, Florida is restarting the search for a quarterback in the class of 2025. Findlay (Ohio) quarterback Ryan Montgomery is one name emerging on Florida’s recruiting board, according to Blake Alderman of Swamp247.

Montgomery is ranked No. 197 overall and No. 12 among quarterbacks in the class of 2025 on the 247Sports composite. He’s been talking to Billy Napier’s recruiting staff for some time and has stayed in contact with coaches since picking up an offer during his first visit in April.

“I didn’t really know too much of what to expect going into the visit, but I came away pretty surprised,” Montgomery said to 247Sports. “I really loved my time there. I got to spend a bunch of time with Coach (Ryan) O’Hara. I got to talk to Coach (Billy) Napier a couple times throughout the day. I got to check out practice, hang out in the meeting rooms pre-practice. I got to watch the scrimmage in The Swamp, so that was cool. I really liked it there.”

Since then, it’s been offensive analyst Ryan O’Hara that’s kept in touch with Montgomery. Playing in the SEC is naturally enticing, but Florida has gone the extra mile to stand out. Although he hasn’t released a list of his top schools, Florida, Miami, Michigan and South Carolina are emerging as strong contenders.

“I get on the phone and call him (O’Hara) at least once a week right now,” he said. “Seeing the amount of time he’s put into me is pretty big for me, and it’s really cool and a blessing. There is a lot of mutual interest between us right now.”

The goal is to be committed before his senior year begins, which is still 13-14 months away. Still, quarterbacks tend to be the first players to commit in each class.

Montgomery is planning a visit to the Swamp during the regular season. He says that the Tennessee game should be the game he comes to see.

In-state 2025 quarterback gets an Ohio State offer

The Buckeyes look just a bit Northwest with their latest offer #GoBucks

There is an influx of quarterback talent in the Buckeye State, and that means [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] does not need to go far in its search for a 2025 signal caller.

Findlay star [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag], brother of Buckeye offensive lineman Luke Montgomery, already held an offer from the in-state power. You can now make it two quarterbacks from inside the state with an offer. Reports indicate Bellefontaine’s [autotag]Tavien St. Clair[/autotag] has an OSU scholarship on the table.

St. Clair has great size at 6 feet, 4 inches and 210 pounds. He is viewed as the 26th-best quarterback and 332nd player overall on the 247Sports composite.

There is one other quarterback offer out in the 2025 class, to Michigan’s Bryce Underwood. It looks like these three have impressed the Ohio State coaching staff and most likely one of them will end up wearing the Scarlet and Gray.

Mike Yurcich makes grand entrance for recruiting trip

LOOK: Penn State offensive coordinator makes recruiting visit by helicopter

What is the best way to make an entrance when hitting the recruiting trail and scouting potential future Nittany Lions? By arriving in a helicopter near a football field, of course! A number of coaches have been using helicopters to make quick recruiting visits over the years, and Penn State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich joined in that fun this week to check out a quarterback recruit in Ohio.

Yurcich arrived by helicopter to check out four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery, a Class of 2025 target from Findlay, Ohio. And because a trip to Findlay isn’t that far from State College, there was no need to take a jet for the flight. So arriving by chopper seems practical. It also dazzles every time it happens.

Montgomery has long been on Penn State’s recruiting radar and he is clearly among the top priorities for the Class of 2025. Montgomery made an unofficial visit to Penn State in July 2021 and left his visit with a scholarship offer. Montgomery made a return trip to State College in September 2021 and again in April 2022. Since then, many more schools have jumped into the recruiting effort for Montgomery including Florida, Miami, Georgia, and more.

Penn State has three commitments in the Class of 2025 already with offensive tackle Jaelyne Matthews, running back Kiandrea Barker, and safety Omari Gaines. Penn State’s Class of 2025 currently ranks third in the nation according to the latest 247Sports composite ranking this far out.

Friday Night Notes: 13 recruiting stories from around the College Wires network

We will take a tour of the recruiting landscape through over a dozen links to stories from around the College Wires network.

USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes is a weekly high school recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the Class of 2023 to ’24 and beyond.

As an unpredictable 2023 NFL draft unfolds in Kansas City, the best high school football players around the country continue their climb to the next level. On this week’s edition of Friday Night Notes, we will be playing the proverbial point guard – or game manager quarterback – if you prefer.

Instead of going through a deeper dive on a few recruiting updates, we will take a scrolling tour of the landscape through over a dozen links to recruiting stories from around the College Wires network.

First, we will share a few quick notes on five college football programs that stood out this week in the 2024 recruiting race.

1. Michigan

There’s a new leader in this recruiting cycle. By picking up commitments from a pair of blue chip prospects earlier this week, the Wolverines knocked off arch-rival Ohio State from the No. 1 spot in the country.

2. Arkansas

While top billing went to Ann Arbor, no school made more overall progress this past week than Arkansas. Last weekend the Razorbacks picked up commitments from four new recruits for their class of 2024. Arkansas now ranks No. 14 in the nation.

3. Notre Dame

Just yesterday two more blue-chip recruits made commitments to Power 5 programs. The Fighting Irish got one in Warner Robins (Ga.) four-star wide receiver Isiah Canion. Going by the composite rankings, he’s No. 29 at his position, also No. 29 in the state and No. 194 nationally.

4. Oklahoma

The Sooners also got themselves a four-star wide receiver on Thursday in Zion Kearney from Hightower (Texas). Kearney had offers from 33 other schools, including Arkansas, Colorado, LSU, Oregon and Washington. His arrival pushes Oklahoma into the top 25 (more on that later).

5. LSU

Last but not least, LSU also picked up a pair of four-star recruits. Over the weekend, they got Denham Springs (La.) safety Dashawn McBryde to commit. On Wednesday they followed that up by recruiting East Feliciana (La.) four-star tight end Trey’Dez Green.

Florida football coach to visit blue-chip 2025 quarterback recruit

Russ Calloway will hit the road to check up on this 4-star QB recruit.

Billy Napier and Co. have been busy hosting top prep prospects from around the country over the past several weeks but the efforts of Florida football’s recruiting staff have not been limited to the Gainesville city limits.

Among the many young student-athletes the Gators have their eyes on is four-star quarterback [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag] out of Findlay (Ohio) in the 2025 cycle, who is expected to receive a visit from tight ends coach [autotag]Russ Callaway[/autotag], according to Swamp247. No specific date has been set yet, however.

This visit is intended to follow up on Montgomery’s campus visit on April 6 which concluded his spring itinerary, which also included the Clemson Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks and Georgia Bulldogs. The 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound passer came away quite impressed with how the program is coming together under Napier’s leadership with an assist to quarterbacks analyst [autotag]Ryan O’Hara[/autotag].

“It was great,” he told 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong. “Was my first time there and I really liked it. Pretty surprised how nice it was. First of all, Coach (Ryan) O’Hara who has been my main recruiter there who works with the quarterbacks has done a phenomenal job with me. I’ve done three Zoom calls with him already going over their offensive scheme and watching practice and game film of their game last year. They’re definitely people I will be comfortable with in terms of development. I think Coach Napier and Coach O’Hara are definitely two guys that can develop me and get me to the next level.”

All four schools he visited this spring have extended scholarship offers, as well as the Colorado Buffaloes, Kentucky Wildcats, Miami Hurricanes, Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans, North Carolina Tar Heels, South Carolina Gamecocks, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies and Ohio State Buckeyes.

Montgomery is ranked No. 187 overall and No. 13 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 162 and 11, respectively. Ohio State owns one crystal ball prediction from 247Sports and also holds the upper hand in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 26.1% chance of signing him. Michigan, Kentucky and Penn State follow behind at 17.8%, 8.8% and 7.4%, respectively.

Elite class of 2025 QB set to visit Georgia

Talented class of 2025 quarterback recruit Ryan Montgomery has planned out some visits for the spring.

Talented class of 2025 quarterback recruit Ryan Montgomery has planned some visits for the spring. Montgomery plays high school football for Findlay High School in Findlay, Ohio. Montgomery also plays basketball.

Montgomery, who visited Athens, Georgia, last summer, plans to visit the University of Georgia again this spring.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound quarterback plans to visit eight programs this spring. The Findlay star has recent scholarship offers from Texas A&M, Rutgers, UAB, and Kentucky. Overall, Montgomery has more than a dozen scholarship offers.

He is a talented sophomore prospect to keep an eye on. This spring, Montgomery plans to visit Ohio State, Clemson, Kentucky, Michigan, Georgia, Michigan State, South Carolina and Florida.

It is always hard to recruit top in-state talent away from Ohio State, so the Buckeyes may be the favorite here.

Kirby Smart and Georgia football have four commitments in the class of 2025. However, Georgia has no commitments from a quarterback in the sophomore class.

The class of 2025 quarterback announced his spring visits via Twitter:

Rutgers football recruiting: Ryan Montgomery, a four-star quarterback, gets a Scarlet Knights offer

Rutgers football offered Ryan Montgomery, a quarterback out of Ohio.

Ryan Montgomery was offered by Rutgers football this week as one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects continues to rack up Power Five offers.

A class of 2025 quarterback, Montgomery has a strong arm and throws well on the run. According to Rivals, he is a four-star recruit and ranked the No. 89 prospect in the class of 2025. He played for Findlay High School (Findlay, OH) last season.

He holds offers from Cincinnati, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Purdue and Tennessee among others.

A 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect, Montgomery has a prototypical skillset for what Rutgers wants from a quarterback in offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca’s system.

Montgomery tweeted about the offer from Rutgers following his call with the program:

The Rutgers quarterback room is shaping up nicely. Two years ago, the Scarlet Knights landed four-star Gavin Wimsatt out of Owensboro, KY who was ranked the No. 10 dual-threat quarterback in the country. Last year, Rutgers flipped Ajani Sheppard late in the recruiting cycle, securing the top quarterback in New York.

[lawrence-related id=24340]

In the 2024 recruiting class, Rutgers already has a commitment from A.J. Surace, a three-star and New Jersey’s top quarterback recruit. Surace, who’s father is the head coach at Princeton, is ranked the No. 8 player in New Jersey by 247Sports. He committed to Rutgers in early February and held offers from Boston College, Duke, Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Temple and Tennessee among others.

Ohio State Football: Quick recruiting recap from this past weekend

It looks like they had a great time

The Buckeyes weren’t just busy on the field this weekend, they are active on the recruiting trail as well. Even though The Game didn’t go Ohio State’s way, it didn’t mean that the weekend was a complete bust. Ryan Day and his staff were active with plenty of recruits who were in Columbus and some that weren’t. Check out some of the action from over the weekend below.
