Florida QB target planning visit after commitment timeline update

Florida is competing with several SEC programs for four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery, who plans to make a decision in February.

Findlay High (Ohio) quarterback [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag] wants to announce his college commitment in February and the Florida Gators might have a chance with the four-star class of 2025 recruit.

Montgomery clarified his commitment timeline on Friday in a conversation with Swamp247. He’s hoping to hit four different SEC schools over the next month, including the University of Florida.

“I am taking several visits in January with the hope to make my decision in February,” Montgomery said. “I’m set to visit South Carolina on (Jan. 20) and looking to book Georgia, Auburn and Florida stops, too.”

Florida offered Montgomery back in April, so he’s already pretty familiar with the staff. Tight ends coach Russ Callaway is the area coach who has stopped by his school, and quarterbacks coach Ryan O’Hara has also kept lines of communication open.

Montgomery sees himself fitting the Graham Mertz mold, which keeps the position room versatile with dual-threat DJ Lagway joining the program next month. He’s already been to the Swamp a few times, but these January visits should carry far more weight.

Montgomery is a four-star recruit everywhere but On3. He retains four-star status on the On3 industry ranking, which uses a weighted average of all four major services, though. He checks in at No. 241 overall and No. 18 among quarterbacks in the class of 2025.

Auburn is ‘100% in the mix’ for 2025 4-star quarterback

Auburn is making a move for 4-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery after his first visit to the Plains.

Auburn was not one of [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag]’s top five schools when he announced them earlier this year but they are making a push for the talented 2025 quarterback.

The Findlay, Ohio native visited Auburn for the first time this weekend to watch the Tigers take on Mississippi State and the trip has the Tigers in the mix he told Auburn Undercover’s Christian Clemente.

“Yeah for sure, they’re 100 percent in the mix,” Montgomery said. “I’m looking at possibly coming down maybe later this year and possibly for a Junior Day in January… Really going into this I didn’t know too much about Auburn, obviously this is my first time here and it definitely bumped them up on the list. Like I said, they’re 100 percent in the mix now and I’m just looking forward to keep establishing and growing this relationship.”

The Tigers have plenty of ground to make up on Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State, who all made his top five back in August.

Montgomery is the No. 221 overall player and No. 15 quarterback in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 8 player from Ohio.

The visit allowed Montgomery to meet with Auburn head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag], something that had an impact on him.

“Yeah that was awesome,” Montgomery said about the meeting. “He just reiterated that I’m one of their top guys and that they really need a quarterback and the 2025 class is crucial for quarterback and that I’m one of their top guys. That was pretty cool.”

Montgomery is having a dominant junior season for Findley High School, completing 68% of his passes for 3,018 yards and 35 passing touchdowns in 10 games.

One of Florida football’s priority 2025 QB targets sets fall visit date

This year’s Florida-Tennessee game will have a healthy helping of top prospects in attendance for the Gators.

Florida football will host four-star quarterback recruit [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag] in Week 3 for the team’s Southeastern Conference opener against the Tennessee Volunteers inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Swamp247’s Donovan Keiser reports.

The visit is one of just two planned for the blue-chip passer out of Findlay (Ohio) in the 2025 recruiting class, both of which currently sit among his preferred collegiate destinations.

The Gators were among the programs listed for the 6-foot-4-inch, 215-pound signal-caller — along with the Michigan Wolverines, Georgia Bulldogs, South Carolina Gamecocks and Penn State Nittany Lions — two weeks ago when he released his top-five preferred schools. The September visit represents the next step in solidifying the relationship between Billy Napier’s staff and the coveted recruit.

Quarterback analyst Ryan O’Hara has been keeping the lines of communication open with the blue-chip student-athlete in the interim, playing the role of communicator between the prized prospect and the program.

“The biggest thing to date is his, mine, and even our HC’s relationship with O’Hara,” Montgomery said. “One of the top recruiters of ours, no doubt. That said, we were very surprised with how cool everything was in our visit. Top-notch facilities, awesome campus, and seeing the Swamp. After that, it was a priority to get back for a game, hence the early-season visit.

“I am excited for us to get to know Nape more this fall, as I hear good things and he seems like a great guy from afar. I think the fit for Ry is there in scheme and school. I’m excited to see them take a step forward this fall.”

As for Napier, his role in coaching the quarterbacks corps is part of the allure the Orange and Blue offers.

“It’s pretty big for a head coach, who is the face of the program, to be heavily involved in your position. It’s really cool to see that and be a part of that I bet. That’s pretty important, just from the preparation that goes into it. From what I saw, he was heavily involved with the guys at quarterback.

“He is going to be right there by your side. He knows the game from a quarterback standpoint just as much as anybody. It’s a pretty good asset to have in the back of your mind.”

Montgomery is ranked No. 215 overall and No. 15 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at the Nos. 240 and 18, respectively.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine favors Ohio State (22.8%) with Michigan (20.0%), the Kentucky Wildcats (7.7%) and Penn State (6.4%) trailing in the race for his commitment.

Four-star QB includes Gators in top-5 schools announcement

The Florida Gators are among the five schools remaining in the recruitment of 2025 four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery.

Findlay High (Ohio) quarterback [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag] is one of the top quarterbacks in the recruiting class of 2025, and he’s already narrowed down his options to five colleges.

The Florida Gators made that cut on Tuesday, according to a social media post from Montgomery and On3’s Hayes Fawcett. While Montgomery says that his recruitment is now completely closed off to the top 5, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Penn State and South Carolina will receive most of his focus moving forward.

Steve Wiltfong, the Director of Recruiting for 247Sports, spoke with Montgomery about his announcement and what’s next for him. Game visits will come in the fall, which should help provide some clarity with a year to mull things over and take officials.

Wiltfong also spoke to Montgomery about why each program is standing out. For Florida, it’s the constant communication from the coaching staff.

“A big part of Florida was coach (Ryan) O’Hara, who is the quarterbacks coach and quarterback analyst there. He has done a phenomenal job,” Montgomery said. “I’m probably in most contact with him out of any recruiting coach. I’ve probably done the most Zooms with him.”

Montgomery also likes the trajectory he sees Florida heading under Billy Napier. That said, teams like Georgia and Michigan can provide an opportunity to compete for a national championship immediately. It will get a tough battle for Florida to win out over the next 16 months.

On3 is the only recruiting service that thinks Montgomery is a three-star recruit, but the site’s industry ranking (which uses a weighted composite) concedes that he is a four-star talent. He’s ranked No. 206 overall and No. 16 among quarterbacks in the class of 2025.

In-state 2025 quarterback leaves Ohio State off his top five

The Buckeyes will have to look elsewhere for a second QB in 2025 #GoBucks

When [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] picks his quarterback, it’s more often then not, the right one.

He’s taking his time for the 2023 starter, but has already found his 2024 recruit, Air Noland, and 2025 as well, Tavien St. Clair. The other option in St. Clair’s class was [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag], brother of current Buckeye offensive lineman Luke, who recently lost his black stripe.

The younger Montgomery had an Ohio State offer and was highly considering joining his brother at the next level, but that all changed when St. Clair made his choice.

Ryan dropped his top five list and to no one’s surprise, Ohio State was left out of the mix.

There was talk that Ohio State could potentially take two quarterbacks in the 2025 class, but it looks like for now at least, Montgomery wil not be the second.

Penn State in Top 5 of 2025 4-star quarterback

Penn State one of the top five schools for four-star QB in Class of 2025.

Penn State has had a good string of quarterback commitments in the past few years.

They landed the number one player at the position in 2022 when signing [autotag]Drew Allar[/autotag]. They followed that up with flipping three-star Elite 11 finalist [autotag]Jaxon Smolik[/autotag] from Tulane to commit to them in 2023. In the 2024 class, they have four-star [autotag]Ethan Grunkemeyer[/autotag] committed to the program as well.

Now, they have their sights set on another quarterback recruit in the class of 2025.

[autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag] is a four-star recruit from the state of Ohio. He is a 6’3″ 210 pound quarterback with a big arm constantly looking down the field to make explosive plays. He has good mobility in the pocket and shows speed when he runs on designed plays or is flushed outside.

The four-star prospect racked up just under 30 scholarship offers from schools across the country before cutting his list to five schools on Tuesday.

Penn State, Michigan, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina are the programs that made his list.

On3’s industry rankings have him as the 16th ranked quarterback in the class of 2025 and the 206th best player overall.

Prior to choosing his top five schools, Montgomery had visited Ohio State and Michigan the most with nine unofficial visits. He cut the Buckeyes as an option, but kept the Wolverines.

He’s visited Penn State four times with the last trip to Happy Valley coming in October 2022.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine had Ohio State as the favorites to land the instate quarterback with 22.8%, but didn’t make his top five. Michigan is currently second in the rankings with 20.0% and Penn State fourth with 6.4%.

The percentages should be updated soon to reflect the list that he’s put out as he starts planning out more visits during the fall.

Montgomery also told Chad Simmons of On3 that he would like to commit to a school before his senior year season. He’s not sure exactly when, but that’s the timeline he has at the moment.

Florida football makes top 5 for blue-chip 2025 quarterback recruit

The Gators are still on the outside looking in, but they still made the cut for this 4-star passer from Ohio.

Florida football made the cut for another blue-chip talent on Tuesday afternoon when four-star quarterback [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag] out of Findlay (Ohio) in the 2025 recruiting class announced his top five schools via On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

The Gators were among the five programs listed for the 6-foot-4-inch, 215-pound signal-caller, along with the Michigan Wolverines, Georgia Bulldogs, South Carolina Gamecocks and Penn State Nittany Lions.

“Playing under coach Napier and Coach O’Hara, I know I’d excel and compete for SEC championships there,” the high school junior told Fawcett.

The Buckeye State product will make his second stop in Gainesville this fall after an early April visit that resulted in a scholarship offer. Montgomery’s opinions have been high on the Orange and Blue since spring, and hopefully, he comes away even more impressed after watching the Tennessee Volunteers game in the Swamp.

In the interim, quarterback analyst Ryan O’Hara has been keeping the lines of communication open with the blue-chip student-athlete.

Montgomery is ranked No. 205 overall and No. 15 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 206 and 16, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine favors Ohio State (22.8%) with Michigan (20.0%), the Kentucky Wildcats (7.7%) and Penn State (6.4%) trailing in the race for his commitment.

Highly-coveted 2025 quarterback sets return visit with Florida

This blue-chip quarterback will be in the Swamp for the Tennessee game.

Florida football recruiting efforts have been on overdrive recently — not just in the month of June, but also stretching back into the spring months.

Among those wowed by what Billy Napier has cooking in the Swamp is four-star quarterback [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag] out of Findlay (Ohio) in the 2025 recruiting cycle, who came away from his early April visit with a scholarship offer and a high opinion on the Orange and Blue. Gators quarterback analyst Ryan O’Hara is also feeling very bullish on the rising high school junior.

“We are a go for Sept. 16 at the Swamp! Can’t wait!” Montgomery’s father Mike told Gators Online. This visit date coincides with Florida’s SEC opener against the Tennessee Volunteers.

While there is still plenty of time for the 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound passer to whittle down his options, the Gators appear to have an inside track on him early thanks to O’Hara’s efforts.

“The biggest thing to date is his, mine, and even our HC’s relationship with O’Hara,” according to Gators Online.

Montgomery is ranked No. 197 overall and No. 12 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 210 and 15, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Ohio State Buckeyes in the lead for his talents with a 24.1% chance of signing him, while the Michigan Wolverines (18.8%), Kentucky Wildcats (8.1%) and Penn State Nittany Lions (6.8%) trail behind.

2025 four-star QB showing ‘mutual interest’ with Florida

Florida is looking at quarterbacks from the class of 2025 once again and this Midwest signal caller is looking like a potential fit.

With Austin Simmons reclassified and flipped to Ole Miss, Florida is restarting the search for a quarterback in the class of 2025. Findlay (Ohio) quarterback Ryan Montgomery is one name emerging on Florida’s recruiting board, according to Blake Alderman of Swamp247.

Montgomery is ranked No. 197 overall and No. 12 among quarterbacks in the class of 2025 on the 247Sports composite. He’s been talking to Billy Napier’s recruiting staff for some time and has stayed in contact with coaches since picking up an offer during his first visit in April.

“I didn’t really know too much of what to expect going into the visit, but I came away pretty surprised,” Montgomery said to 247Sports. “I really loved my time there. I got to spend a bunch of time with Coach (Ryan) O’Hara. I got to talk to Coach (Billy) Napier a couple times throughout the day. I got to check out practice, hang out in the meeting rooms pre-practice. I got to watch the scrimmage in The Swamp, so that was cool. I really liked it there.”

Since then, it’s been offensive analyst Ryan O’Hara that’s kept in touch with Montgomery. Playing in the SEC is naturally enticing, but Florida has gone the extra mile to stand out. Although he hasn’t released a list of his top schools, Florida, Miami, Michigan and South Carolina are emerging as strong contenders.

“I get on the phone and call him (O’Hara) at least once a week right now,” he said. “Seeing the amount of time he’s put into me is pretty big for me, and it’s really cool and a blessing. There is a lot of mutual interest between us right now.”

The goal is to be committed before his senior year begins, which is still 13-14 months away. Still, quarterbacks tend to be the first players to commit in each class.

Montgomery is planning a visit to the Swamp during the regular season. He says that the Tennessee game should be the game he comes to see.
