In-state Ohio State football target commits to Georgia

It will be interesting how he does with the Bulldogs. #GoBucks

In the 2025 recruiting cycle, there were two elite quarterback prospects, Tavien St. Clair and [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag].

Ohio State football recruited both of them, and made it clear, whoever entered the fold first would be the only quarterback in the class. Well, St. Clair pulled the trigger in June of last year, leaving Montgomery, the brother of current Buckeye offensive lineman Luke, to find another home.

The younger Montgomery made his decision on Wednesday, committing to the Georgia Bulldogs. When looking at the 247Sports Composite Rankings for each of the players, it seems clear that Ohio State got the better of the two — though time will tell.

St. Clair is ranked as the No. 1 quarterback and 17th overall prospect, while Montgomery is the No. 14 at the position and 170th overall player.

As with many prospects who didn’t end up in Columbus, we will keep a watchful eye on how Montgomery does in his time in Athens.

4-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery announces commitment

Ryan Montgomery, a four-star quarterback out of Findlay, Ohio, has committed to the Georgia Bulldogs

Ryan Montgomery, a four-star quarterback out of Findlay, Ohio, made his official announcement on Wednesday afternoon. Montgomery committed to the Georgia Bulldogs over Florida, and South Carolina. Montgomery, who is ranked as the No. 14 quarterback in the country, gives Georgia a sought-after quarterback commit for the class of 2025. Montgomery’s commitment was not short of theatrics, as the quarterback brought a live bulldog with him to announce his decision.

South Carolina and Florida were seen as early favorites to land Montgomery, but Georgia surged into the lead along recent weeks. The Bulldogs had long been involved in Montgomery’s recruitment but zeroed in on him in the weeks following the commitment of fellow class of 2025 quarterback Matt Zollers to Missouri.

Montgomery is listed at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. He passed for 3,877 yards, 38 touchdowns, and five interceptions while also running for 257 yards and 10 touchdowns in his junior season. He led Findlay to an 8-3 record and an appearance in the playoffs.

Montgomery is slated to bring much needed depth to next season’s anticipated quarterback competition, where he would have the opportunity to compete with current backup Gunner Stockton as well as class of 2024 four-star Ryan Puglisi.

Coveted blue-chip 2025 QB announces decision date

This Ohio-based signal-caller has the Gators in his final three. Will he pick the Orange and Blue?

The big day is nearly here for one of the top quarterback recruits in the 2025 cycle. Four-star gunslinger [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag] out of Findlay (Ohio) set his official announcement date for Wednesday, April 17, which will be broadcast from his high school at 3 p.m. ET.

The announcement will be broadcast live on the 247Sports YouTube Channel on Wednesday afternoon.

The Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs and South Carolina Gamecocks represent the three finalists in the running for the blue-chip passer. The trio were the finalists in a field that included 27 total offers from many top programs around the nation.

Recruiting Summary

Montgomery is ranked No. 184 overall and No. 15 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite, while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 186 and 14, respectively.

Georgia is the current favorite to land a commitment from Montgomery, with 73.9% odds on the On3 recruiting prediction machine; Florida (9.8%) and South Carolina (4.7%) follow behind.

4-star Georgia quarterback target sets commitment date

Elite quarterback recruit Ryan Montgomery has locked in his commitment date and will choose among Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina.

Class of 2025 four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery has officially set his commitment date. Montgomery confirmed he will commit this Wednesday, April 17, at 3 p.m. ET at Findlay High School. He will choose among Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina.

Montgomery is from Findlay, Ohio, and is listed at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. He passed for 3,877 yards, 38 touchdowns, and five interceptions in his junior season while leading Findlay to an 8-3 record and the first round of the playoffs. He also ran for 257 yards and ten touchdowns. He broke Ben Roethlisberger’s school record for single-game touchdown passes with six this past season.

Though he was long seen as a South Carolina lean, Georgia has been trending heavily as of late for Montgomery according to numerous recruiting resources. The Bulldogs recently received a commitment from class of 2026 number one quarterback Jared Curtis, but also missed out on four-star signal caller Matt Zollers, who recently committed to Missouri. This leaves the Dawgs without a quarterback commitment at this time in the current recruiting cycle.

Montgomery would be a major addition to a quarterback room that could be down to two scholarship quarterbacks in Gunner Stockton and Ryan Puglisi to start next season.

Gators getting top QB target back for official visit over summer

The Gators will get quarterback Ryan Montgomery back on campus at least two more times, including an official visit over the summer.

Florida’s top quarterback target in the 2025 cycle, Findlay’s [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag], will return to Gainesville at least twice over the next few months, according to a Swamp247 report.

An April unofficial visit will keep the relationship fresh, but a June 14 official visit should carry more weight. Montgomery sees his recruitment carrying into the summer, and every official visit is going to change the rankings he keeps in his head.

South Carolina will get him for the spring game on April 19, and Georgia will get him a week after Florida. Those are also his top three teams right now.

Florida has stayed on Montgomery since attention shifted to the 2025 cycle. There are Graham Mertz comparisons, and Montgomery has praised Florida’s work with the Wisconsin transfer. It feels like a perfect match, but playing time behind DJ Lagway could be something that needs to be addressed on one of these visits.

Recruiting summary

Montgomery is a consensus four-star recruit, ranked the highest by ESPN at No. 116 overall and No. 6 among quarterbacks in the class of 2025. The 247Sports composite puts him at No. 188 nationally and No. 14 at his position, while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 196 and 14, respectively.

The South Carolina Gamecocks are the current favorites to land a commitment from Montgomery, with 57.8% odds on the On3 recruiting prediction machine. Florida (17.1%), Michigan (5.1%) and Georgia (3.3%) round out the list.

Florida has some serious competition for this blue-chip passer out of Ohio but continue ot push hard for his talents.

Florida football’s second junior day of the 2024 calendar year was a busy one last weekend as the program hosted a plethora of top prep prospects from around the nation to get a gander at what the Gators have to offer.

Among those making a stop in the Swamp was four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery out of Findlay (Ohio), who has been one of the Orange and Blue’s top targets at the position in the 2025 cycle. The 6-foot-3-inch, 215-pound passer spent two days in Gainesville getting a feel for Billy Napier’s team facilities and staff, once again coming away with a positive impression.

“The visit in Gainesville was awesome,” Montgomery told 247Sports. “I’m very impressed with the development overall and especially at the quarterback position under Coach Napier, Coach O’Hara and Coach Pruitt. They just continue to impress me in all phases.”

It is not just the personalities at UF that intrigues the young student-athlete, but also how he sees himself in the system Napier has set up.

“I really like the offensive system under Coach Napier and think I’d be a great fit,” Montgomery also added. “They continue to prioritize me as the guy and that doesn’t go unnoticed.”

As a high school junior, Montgomery passed for over 3,300 yards and 38 touchdowns, adding another 10 scores on the ground against Buckeye State competition.

Four-star quarterback [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag] out of Findlay (Ohio) in the 2025 recruiting cycle will be in Gainesville on Feb. 3, his father Mike Montgomery told Swamp247. The 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound passer had made previous stops in the Swamp, including the win over the Tennessee Volunteers back in mid-September.

“I feel like they are making me a priority for their 2025 class. They reiterated that again to me today,” he said after the game.

The coveted high school junior has already set OVs with the South Carolina Gamecocks (Jan. 20) and  Georgia Bulldogs (Jan. 22), while also pondering a stop with the Auburn Tigers. The Buckeye State product has a plethora of other offers from top schools as well.

Napier and Co. looking ahead to 2025 with blue-chip QB prospect

The Gators are keeping an eye on this blue-chip quarterback recruit in the 2025 cycle.

The latest news for Florida football has come from the transfer portal but that does not mean that the Gators are not also keeping an eye on the recruiting front. Granted, there is currently a no-contact period in effect but that expires this coming Friday.

Once the floodgates reopen, Billy Napier and Co. are set to follow up on four-star quarterback [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag] out of Findlay (Ohio) in the 2025 recruiting cycle. While the Gators have five-star passer DJ Lagway coming into the program in 2024 as the face of the program there is always a need for more talent in the quarterback room.

“I feel like they are making me a priority for their 2025 class. They reiterated that again to me today,” the 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound passer offered after his visit for the win over the Tennessee Volunteers in the Swamp back in mid-September.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound signal-caller has already set OVs with Georgia Bulldogs and South Carolina Gamecocks in January, while also pondering stops with the Auburn Tigers and Michigan State Spartans.

“Those four to five schools are the ones I’m prioritizing, but schools like Missouri and Louisville are starting to come on late here,” he told 247Sports’ Allen Trieu.

During his three-year prep career, Montgomery threw for 7,584 yards and 89 touchdowns while rushing for 740 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was also the Toledo Blade’s 2023 Player of the Year.

Montgomery is ranked No. 205 overall and No. 14 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 241 and 18, respectively.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Ohio State Buckeyes on top with a 21.7% chance of signing him, followed by the Michigan Wolverines (19.0%), Penn State Nittany Lions (9.1%) and Kentucky Wildcats (6.1%) — which deviates greatly from his recent announcement.

Florida among possible visit destinations for blue-chip 2025 quarterback

The Gators are among the roughly top five schools in the running for this four-star QB from Ohio.

The 2024 recruiting cycle is in its waning phase which means that the 2025 class is quickly rising on Billy Napier and Co.’s priority list.

One name that has been popping up over the last several months is four-star quarterback [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag] out of Findlay (Ohio), who recently divulged his official visit plans for next month as well as a general idea of when he plans on making his final decision.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound passer has already set OVs with Georgia Bulldogs and South Carolina Gamecocks in January, while also pondering stops with the Auburn Tigers, Michigan State Spartans and Florida Gators.

“Those four to five schools are the ones I’m prioritizing, but schools like Missouri and Louisville are starting to come on late here,” he told 247Sports’ Allen Trieu.

Over the course of his three-year prep career, Montgomery threw for 7,584 yards and 89 touchdowns while rushing for 740 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was also the Toledo Blade’s 2023 Player of the Year.

“I’m eager to see what schools come visit this January and then I’ll take January visits and just see how the college football world shakes out these next two months,” he said of his upcoming plans. “But I’m looking at a date in February to commit.”

Florida QB target planning visit after commitment timeline update

Florida is competing with several SEC programs for four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery, who plans to make a decision in February.

Findlay High (Ohio) quarterback [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag] wants to announce his college commitment in February and the Florida Gators might have a chance with the four-star class of 2025 recruit.

Montgomery clarified his commitment timeline on Friday in a conversation with Swamp247. He’s hoping to hit four different SEC schools over the next month, including the University of Florida.

“I am taking several visits in January with the hope to make my decision in February,” Montgomery said. “I’m set to visit South Carolina on (Jan. 20) and looking to book Georgia, Auburn and Florida stops, too.”

Florida offered Montgomery back in April, so he’s already pretty familiar with the staff. Tight ends coach Russ Callaway is the area coach who has stopped by his school, and quarterbacks coach Ryan O’Hara has also kept lines of communication open.

Montgomery sees himself fitting the Graham Mertz mold, which keeps the position room versatile with dual-threat DJ Lagway joining the program next month. He’s already been to the Swamp a few times, but these January visits should carry far more weight.

Montgomery is a four-star recruit everywhere but On3. He retains four-star status on the On3 industry ranking, which uses a weighted average of all four major services, though. He checks in at No. 241 overall and No. 18 among quarterbacks in the class of 2025.
