Bleacher Report suggests a trade that would send Kenrich Williams to the Bucks

Kenrich Williams only has one more year left on his current deal.

Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz released an article recently that suggested one trade idea for all 30 NBA teams. The Oklahoma City Thunder were involved in two such trade proposals. The first one included the Thunder trading Kenrich Williams to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Rayjon Tucker, 2022 second-round pick and a 2023 second-round pick.

“At 6’6” and 210 pounds, few players made a bigger defensive impact than Williams this past year, with the Thunder surrendering a whopping 13.5 fewer points per 100 possessions with him in the game. That figure ranked in the 98th percentile among all NBA players, per Cleaning the Glass.

Tucker is a 24-year-old shooting guard who has a better chance at minutes in OKC, with the Thunder ultimately making the trade to collect on the two second-round picks.”

Williams only has a year left on his current deal, but has stated his desire of retiring in Oklahoma City multiple times this season. The Thunder should ideally decide Williams’ future with team — whether with an extension or trade — instead of letting him enter a contract season.

Tucker, who went undrafted in 2019, hasn’t done much in his three seasons in the league. Being 24 years old already probably dampers any excitement of further development as well. The real prize of this trade scenario would be the two second-round picks.

Explaining the NBA’s hardship exception and the free agents who signed as replacement players

Explaining what hardship exceptions and replacement players mean as COVID-19 protocols hit the NBA.

As the omicron variant of COVID-19 continues to spread, the NBA has required a large share of “replacement players” to fill in for the players who are in health and safety protocols. And so far, more than 100 players have reportedly entered the league’s health and safety protocols so far this month, per ESPN’s Baxter Holmes.

But how exactly do the “replacement players” work?

Essentially, the NBA’s hardship exception allows teams to exceed the 15-man roster limit if more than three players on the roster are each going to miss extended time due to illness or injury. Typically, teams weren’t allowed to apply for the hardship exception before Jan. 5.

But starting last season, the league changed the policy to allow earlier exceptions. And as of earlier this week, effective Dec. 19 until Jan. 19, the NBA is allowing teams to sign one replacement player for each player on their roster who tests positive for COVID-19.

While there are some big names (e.g. Isaiah Thomas, Lance Stephenson, CJ Miles) who have signed as replacement players, there are lots of promising young NBA hopefuls who are hoping to use this opportunity as a chance to stick around the league.

Not all of the players below were signed through hardship exceptions and some transactions (e.g. DeMarcus Cousins and Wesley Matthews to the Milwaukee Bucks) may have happened anyway during a normal season.

But below, based on the NBA’s transaction log and reporting from the league’s top insiders, you can find a live tracker of all the players who have signed new deals with NBA teams over the course of the past month.

Sixers roster news: Team to waive third-year guard Rayjon Tucker

The Philadelphia 76ers will waive third-year guard Rayjon Tucker.

The Philadelphia 76ers just wrapped up the summer league and are headed back home after 14 days out in Las Vegas. The Sixers finished 3-2 and they got some good play out of their younger players such as Tyrese Maxey and Paul Reed, just as examples.

One player who had a solid summer league is third-year guard Rayjon Tucker. He showed off some strong play on the defensive end while also showing off some more on offense, although still raw on that end of the floor.

The team did sign Tucker to a two-way deal earlier in the offseason, but on Wednesday, the team announced that they will waive the athletic guard. He played in 14 games for Philadelphia in the 2020-21 season averaging 2.4 points and 0.8 rebounds in mostly garbage time.

This does not mean that Tucker will be done with the Sixers completely as he could spend time with the Delaware Blue Coats in the coming future, but for now, he will have to figure out his next move. What he does have is NBA-level athleticism that should help him down the line. He has the ability to play solid perimeter defense, and if he can consistently knock down triples, he can find a spot in the league.

Philadelphia 76ers 2020-21 season in review: Rayjon Tucker

We now review the season had by Philadelphia 76ers guard Rayjon Tucker in the 2020-21 season.

We continue our look at the 2020-21 season for the Philadelphia 76ers by looking at each player’s season. Having worked through the starting lineup, we turn our attention to the bench unit as we take a look at one of the younger players who provided some athletic plays off the bench.

The Sixers signed Rayjon Tucker to a two-way contract in January, and he only played in 14 games. He made most of his impact in the G League bubble in Orlando. When he did get some time with the Sixers, he threw down dunks to hype the crowd a bit, and he showed off some elite athleticism.

2020-21 season averages:

2.4 points

0.8 rebounds

0.4 assists

50% overall percentage

28.6% from deep

Tucker averaged 4.9 minutes in those 14 games for Philadelphia; most of it came in garbage time. While he is a very athletic player, he is still very raw, and he still has a lot of development to do as a player. In the G League, he averaged 19.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists with the Delaware Blue Coats.

Tucker’s best game with the Sixers came in the season finale when he scored 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting in a win over the Orlando Magic. That was a solid game for him to get some more time and get some live action.

Tucker played in one game in the playoffs, Game 5 against the Washington Wizards. He scored one point in 1:40 of action. He did not see the floor against the Atlanta Hawks.

For the offseason, Tucker has to continue to develop and round out the edges of his game. He has the potential to be a rotational player in the league, but he has to add to his game and he will have to work much more.

Stay or go: predicting what Sixers will do with their 6 free agents

We predict what the Philadelphia 76ers will do with their six free agents in the offseason.

As the Philadelphia 76ers head into the offseason, there are not a lot of avenues they can go down to improve their team.

The Sixers do not have a lot of money to play with in free agency. They have just minimum contracts and the $5.9 million taxpayer mid-level exception.

Therefore, president Daryl Morey and the rest of the front office will have to get creative to upgrade the roster. They will have to focus on the draft and through trades.

The Sixers have six free agents they will have to make decisions on, and we are going to predict whether they stay or go when free agency begins on Aug. 2:

Final Philadelphia 76ers individual player grades for 2020-21 season

Now is the time for the individual player grades for the 2020-21 regular season for the Philadelphia 76ers.

The 2020-21 regular season is in the books for the Philadelphia 76ers. They finished 49-23 and atop the Eastern Conference. It was a fun and entertaining season for the Sixers, who accomplished their goal of earning the No. 1 seed and having home-court advantage in the playoffs.

Led by their star duo, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, and the savvy additions of Danny Green and Seth Curry, they have made huge steps forward. Coach Doc Rivers has been huge in their development. He has gotten the most out of the star duo as well as Tobias Harris on the offensive end.

As the team gets ready for the playoffs, we take a final look at the regular season and give out the individual player grades:

Sixers president Daryl Morey likes what he sees out of team’s rookies

Philadelphia 76ers president Daryl Morey likes what he saw from the team’s younger players.

The Philadelphia 76ers are getting set to open up the second half of the season on Thursday as they take on the Chicago Bulls on the road, but their young players were playing some good basketball in the Orlando G League bubble.

The team’s rookies, Isaiah Joe and Paul Reed, had themselves a productive G League season for the Delaware Blue Coats as they led the team to the title game. Unfortunately, they fell to the Lakeland Magic, but the rookies, along with two-way player Rayon Tucker, look like they’re ready to join the Sixers after their run in the bubble.

Sixers team president Daryl Morey joined the ESPN2 broadcast during the game and he was happy with what he saw out of the team’s younger players.

“All three have something to contribute,” said Morey on the broadcast. “Obviously, we’re a very good team and a tough rotation to crack, but this season at the NBA level, there’s been a lot of players in and out for various reasons. The normal injuries and also health and safety and things like that.”

Morey then went into the three players specifically and what they can bring to the team in the future.

“Isaiah Joe’s giving us good (play) since he’s been out there,” Morey added. “Rayjon and hasn’t had a chance to be on the main roster yet. We signed him a little ways into the season and then Paul Reed is probably the MVP of the G League season so far. He’s shown that if Doc gives him a chance, if we have an opening of the rotation, could come in and contribute.”

The Sixers, meanwhile, will tipoff with the Bulls in Chicago at 8 p.m. EST.

Sixers roster news: Team will sign Rayjon Tucker to a two-way contract

The Philadelphia 76ers will sign Rayjon Tucker to a two-way deal.

The Philadelphia 76ers recently made an interesting roster move when they waived two-way player Dakota Mathias who played admirably when the team was shorthanded. The move was made for some roster flexibility and the team made a move on Friday afternoon to add another player.

The team will sign Rayjon Tucker to a two-way contract and he will join the team’s G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, in the G League bubble down in Orlando. Tucker played 20 games with the Utah Jazz in the 2019-20 season and he averaged 3.1 points and 1.0 rebound per game while playing in two games in the playoffs averaging 2.5 points while knocking down a shot from deep in three attempts.

The Blue Coats will participate in the league’s G League bubble at Disney World and it will be an opportunity for Tucker to earn his next chance at the NBA level. The Sixers will need more guard depth after waiving Mathias so Tucker can fill that role moving forward.

Jazz rookie Rayjon Tucker dropped a career-high in loss vs. Mavericks

Playing without Donovan Mitchell, Rayjon Tucker turned in a career performance on Monday as the Jazz were defeated by the Mavericks.

Playing without Donovan Mitchell, Rayjon Tucker turned in a career performance on Monday as the Utah Jazz were defeated by the Dallas Mavericks, 122-114.

Tucker helped lead the way off of the bench after scoring a career-high 17 points, his first double-digit scoring effort. He shot 4-of-7 from the field and was successful in getting to the free-throw, making 8-of-9 attempts from the charity stripe.

Tucker, who went undrafted out of Little Rock, emerged as perhaps the best player in the NBA G League this season, which prompted the Jazz to sign him in December. He established himself as a versatile offensive player and can score from virtually all over the court.

His skill set was certainly on display with the Jazz, despite dropping the contest after leading by as many as 22 points. Tucker may not get a big opportunity during the postseason but he has proven that he will be ready should his number be called.

Ranking the 30 best players of the 2019-20 NBA G League season

With the NBA G League season likely to be canceled soon, Rookie Wire took a look at the best players to suit up this year.

As the NBA braces for a lengthy hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, the growing belief around the league is that the G League season will soon be canceled.

The G League regular season was set to conclude on March 28 and the decision to end play is likely an easy one to make given the financial burden it places on organizations. While the season will soon be canceled, all G League players will be paid through the end of the year.

The NBA itself is preparing for the possibility of returning to play in mid-to-late June as the best-case scenario after the CDC recommended on Sunday that all events with 50 or more people be canceled for two months to help slow the spread of the virus.

With the G League likely set to be canceled, Rookie Wire decided to take a look at the best players to suit up this season as there have been some spectacular performances from around the league.

Players must have appeared in at least 20 games to be considered. Stats were used from the NBA G League, Basketball-Reference and RealGM.

30. Donta Hall, Grand Rapids Drive

Hall, who finished second in double-doubles among all players with 22, emerged as a strong post player with the Drive this season. He was named to the 2019-20 Midseason All-NBA G League Team and was solid all season long in his first year as a professional.

29. Christ Koumadje, Delaware Blue Coats

The 7-foot-4 center led the G League in blocks with four per game and was seventh in rebounding. He recorded two triple-doubles this season with points, rebounds and blocks and tied the mark for most rebounds in a game by an individual player at 24.

28. Kyle Alexander, Sioux Falls Skyforce

Alexander quickly became one of the best big men in the league this season and his play resulted in a two-way contract from the Miami Heat. He finished fifth in blocks and 14th in rebounding with the Skyforce to cap a productive first year.

27. Eric Mika, Stockton Kings

The former BYU product placed 29th in scoring among all players and second in rebounding. Mika recorded 16 double-doubles and tied the G League season-high of 24 rebounds by an individual player. He eventually earned a 10-day contract from the Kings in February but was not signed to a second one.

26. Paul Watson, Raptors 905

Watson was named to the 2019-20 Midseason All-NBA G League Team and continued his strong play for the rest of the season. Watson scored in double figures in each of his 30 games played in the G League and eventually earned a two-way contract from the Toronto Raptors.
