New England Patriots at Carolina Panthers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s New England Patriots at Carolina Panthers odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

Winners of two straight, the New England Patriots (4-4) are on the road against the Carolina Panthers (4-4). They face one another Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at Bank of America Stadium. Below, we look at the Patriots vs. Panthers odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The New England defense picked off QB Justin Herbert twice, with S Adrian Phillips returning one for a touchdown, while K Nick Folk make four field goals in a 27-24 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Rookie QB Mac Jones has not turned the ball over the last two games.

The Panthers snapped a four-game losing streak last week with a 19-13 win over the Atlanta Falcons. The defense held Atlanta to 213 yards of offense and picked off QB Matt Ryan twice in the win.

Patriots at Panthers odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Patriots 21, Panthers 17

Money line

The Patriots are 3-0 on the road this season. Jones is taking care of the football, while the Panthers have been in a tailspin.

QB Sam Darnold has not had a passing touchdown in his last two games. The Panthers are No. 2 in total defense and allow the fifth-fewest points in the league.

But Jones will continue to be effective and to protect the football.

Take the Patriots (-190).

Against the spread

Both teams are 4-4 ATS this season, but the Pats have covered the spread in their last two games, while the Panthers, before their win over the Falcons last week, had failed to cover the spread in four straight games.

The Pats are 2-3 ATS as a favorite.

I expect this to be close and come down to the wire.

Take the PATRIOTS -3.5 (-105).

Over/Under

The Patriots have had each of their last four games hit the Over.

Only two of the Panthers’ games this season have not gone Under the projected total.

This will be a defensive battle between two top-10 defensive teams.

Take UNDER 41.5 (-115).

New England Patriots at Los Angeles Chargers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s New England Patriots at Los Angeles Chargers odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

Mac Jones and the New England Patriots (3-4) will head across the country to take on Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers (4-2) Sunday afternoon. Kickoff from SoFi Stadium will be at 4:05 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Patriots vs. Chargers odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Patriots blew out the New York Jets in Week 7, winning 54-13 at home. Jones continues to play well and seems to improve by the week, while the defense has been stout all season. After Sunday’s scoring outburst, the Patriots are 11th in points and 16th in total yards.

The Chargers were off in Week 7, which was the perfect time for a bye week. In their last game, they were crushed by the Baltimore Ravens, 34-6, in by far their worst performance on either side of the ball. The defense has allowed 34 and 42 points in its last two games against the Ravens and Cleveland Browns, though the offense still ranks 13th in points despite their six-point performance against Baltimore.

Patriots at Chargers odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Chargers 27, Patriots 20

Money line

The Chargers are well-rested, playing at home and coming off a humbling loss to the Ravens. There’s no reason they shouldn’t be prepared for this game, with Herbert likely to get back on track after a shaky performance against Baltimore. One note of concern is RB Austin Ekeler (hip) didn’t practice all week and is questionable.

Bill Belichick has his defense playing well, but I like the CHARGERS (-210) to come away with a win at home against a Patriots team that doesn’t necessarily have an identity right now.

Against the spread

The Chargers are 4-2 against the spread this season, a few games better than the Patriots’ 3-4 ATS record. Sunday’s spread is surprisingly only 4.5 points, likely because of how impressive New England looked against a terrible Jets team.

Unless Belichick comes up with a game plan to completely throw off Herbert, I don’t see the CHARGERS -4.5 (-105) losing this game. They should win by at least a touchdown, being at home and coming off a bye week.

Over/Under

The Over record in Chargers games this season is just 1-5-0, the third-worst in the NFL. The Over is only 3-4 in Patriots games, too, so neither of these teams have played particularly high-scoring contests.

With Ekeler banged up, the Chargers may not be at full strength, either. Bet the UNDER 49.5 (-105) in this one.

New York Jets at New England Patriots odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s New York Jets at New England Patriots odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Jets (1-4) visit the New England Patriots (2-4) in Week 7 at Gillette Stadium for their second meeting of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Jets vs. Patriots odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Jets had a bye last week after losing to the Atlanta Falcons 27-20 as 3-point underdogs in the NFL’s second London game of the year. New York is just 1-4 against the spread (ATS) and 2-3 Over/Under (O/U) on the year with their lone victory and cover coming against the Tennessee Titans in Week 4.

New England lost a 34-28 overtime thriller in Week 6 to the Dallas Cowboys as a 3.5-point home underdog. The Patriots crushed the Jets 25-6 in Week 3 as 5.5-point road favorites. New York rookie QB Zach Wilson‘s four interceptions were a major reason for New England’s lopsided win.

Jets at Patriots odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Jets 21, Patriots 16

Money line

Slight “LEAN” to the JETS (+250) for a tiny wager if at all because I like New York plus the points in this spot and see a little value in the underdogs’ money line as mostly a bet against the overpriced favorite.

New England’s injury report is crazy. Who knows how much of that is based on head coach Bill Belichick’s gamesmanship or him giving veterans rest? However, most of New England’s defensive starters are dealing with an injury and New York is well-rested off its bye week.

Furthermore, the Jets have higher pressure rate, 3rd-down conversion rate and red-zone conversion rate differentials than the Patriots.

Finally, New York had more time of possession, total yards and 3rd-down conversions than New England in the Week 2 meeting. If New York can duplicate that performance and minimize mistakes, then the JETS (+250) could cash.

Against the spread

Definitely BET the JETS +6.5 (+100) heavier than or instead of their money line based on the analysis above and because there’s a smidge of “reverse line movement” heading in New York’s direction.

Roughly 90% of the money wagered is on New England, but the line has ticked down from the Patriots -7.5 on the opener to the current price (according to Pregame.com).

Also, doesn’t the Patriots laying less than a touchdown at home feel suspiciously cheap considering New England easily covered as a 5.5-point favorite in New York earlier this season?

On top of that, the Patriots are just 4-8 ATS as favorites since the beginning of last season. This isn’t your Tom Brady-led Patriots and there will be some growing pains with New England rookie QB Mac Jones.

TAKE the JETS +6.5 (+100).

Over/Under

Slight “LEAN” to the UNDER 42.5 (-105) for a small bet if at all because I prefer the New York side more than the total.

But New England is 4-8 O/U as a favorite since the beginning of 2020 and there’s been sharp line movement toward the Under. This total opened at 43.5 but has been bet down by both the “Pros” and “Joe’s.”

Dallas Cowboys at New England Patriots odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Dallas Cowboys at New England Patriots odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Dallas Cowboys (4-1) hope to continue with their winning ways, seeking their fifth consecutive victory. They take on the New England Patriots (2-3) on the road Sunday afternoon. The game kicks off at 4:25 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium. Below, we look at the Cowboys vs. Patriots odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Cowboys are coming off a blowout 44-20 win over the New York Giants. Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown while Dak Prescott added 302 passing yards and three touchdown passes. Prescott has 13 touchdown passes through five games and is the catalyst for the Cowboys’ No. 2-ranked offense in both yards and points.

The Patriots have lost all three games they have played this season at Gillette Stadium. They have the league’s No. 5-ranked defense in both yards and points allowed. New England has scored fewer than 20 points in three of their five games this season, led by rookie QB Mac Jones.

Cowboys at Patriots odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Cowboys 28, Patriots 19

Money line

Even with the Patriots’ vaunted defense, the Cowboys will still put up points. They have scored 36 or more in their last three games.

Without Harris at running back, the Patriots will struggle to keep up.

Take the COWBOYS (-180).

Against the spread

The Cowboys have covered the spread in all five of their games this season. The Pats are 2-3 ATS and 1-2 ATS at home. Dallas beats its opponents by more than 10 points a game.

Take the COWBOYS -3.5 (-108).

Over/Under

Four of the Cowboys’ five games this season have gone Over the projected total. However, the Patriots have only had one game hit the Over.

With how the Patriots play defense, I don’t see this game getting into the 50s.

Take UNDER 50.5 (-108).

New England Patriots at Houston Texans odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s New England Patriots at Houston Texans odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The New England Patriots (1-3) try to bounce back after a tough Week 4 loss when playing the struggling Houston Texans (1-3) on the road. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET at NRG Stadium. Below, we look at the Patriots vs. Texans odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Patriots were nearly able to spoil Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady‘s return to New England but a missed potential game-winning field goal from 56 yards gave the Bucs a 19-17 win. Rookie QB Mac Jones has passed for 1,012 yards, 4 touchdowns and 4 interceptions, while the defense is No. 5 in yards allowed and No. 6 in points allowed through four games.

The Texans have lost three straight games after a season-opening win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Rookie QB Davis Mills has been starting in place of Tyrod Taylor since he injured his hamstring. The Texans have scored only 9 total points in two games with Mills at the helm.

Patriots at Texans odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Patriots 20, Texans 10

Money line

The Patriots have not been particularly good on offense this season, scoring over 20 points just once through four games. However, the Texans have allowed an average of 29.0 points per game.

With the Texans offensive struggles with Mills at quarterback, even if the Patriots don’t score much, Houston will struggle against New England’s very good defense.

With the line what it is, PASS on the money line.

Against the spread

Houston scored 9 points in its last two games. New England held the Buccaneers, who had scored 103 points across their first three games, to only 19. Houston will be lucky to hit double digits.

Both the Texans and the Patriots are 2-2 ATS but in this game, expect the New England defense to continue to add to the Texans’ offensive struggles and the offense to be mildly productive.

Take the PATRIOTS -8.5 (-108).

Over/Under

All four of the Patriots’ games stayed Under the projected total.

Since Mills took over at quarterback, the Texans have not had a game hit the Over.

Keep with that trend.

Take UNDER 39.5 (-105).

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New England Patriots odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New England Patriots Sunday Night Football odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1) and New England Patriots (1-2) meet on Sunday Night Football at Gillette Stadium in Week 4. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Buccaneers vs. Patriots odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Buccaneers are looking to bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season on the road against the Los Angeles Rams. The Over connected in each of the three outings for Tampa Bay to date.

The Patriots will get a chance to face QB Tom Brady on their home field. You might have heard he used to play in New England. The new signal-caller, QB Mac Jones, has been a bit uneven so far, and the Patriots are 0-2 straight up and against the spread through two home games. The Under is 3-0 in three outings for New England.

Buccaneers at Patriots odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Buccaneers 34, Patriots 17

Money line

The homecoming for Brady is going to be a successful one, as the Buccaneers (-320) bounce back from a defeat in a marquee game last weekend in Los Angeles.

However, you can’t risk more than three times your potential return on a road team, even with a legend like Brady under center in his old stomping grounds with a chip on his shoulder. There is just no value here.

AVOID, and look to the spread.

Also see: Brady vs. Belichick SNF specials

Against the spread

The BUCCANEERS -7.5 (-102) are an amazing value. The Patriots defense has been stout, but the offense is just too error-prone, and that’s not going to cut the mustard against Brady. He’ll make Jones and the Patriots pay while magnifying every error.

The Bucs were 4-1 SU/5-0 ATS after a straight-up loss last season, so don’t expect a losing skid. Brady just doesn’t allow that to happen.

Over/Under

The OVER 49.5 (-108) is the lean but go lightly. The New England defense has been stout, but it has been all Over all the time in prime-time games so far this NFL season.

The Over is 8-2 in games under the lights following Week 4’s Thursday Night Football matchup. Expect another shootout with Brady and the defending champs showing out.

New Orleans Saints at New England Patriots odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing the New Orleans Saints at New England Patriots Week 3 odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Orleans Saints (1-1) are on the road in Week 3 to take on the New England Patriots (1-1). Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET Sunday at Gillette Stadium. Below, we look at the Saints at Patriots odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Saints started the season with a 38-3 shellacking of the Green Bay Packers but were unable to maintain that level of play as they lost in Week 2 to the Carolina Panthers 26-7. QB Jameis Winston threw 5 touchdown passes in the season opener but none in Week 2 and he was intercepted twice.

The Patriots lost 17-16 in Week 1 to the Miami Dolphins. New England dominated that game but lost because, in four trips to the red zone, they scored only one touchdown and turned the ball over once. They followed it up with a 25-6 win over the New York Jets but struggled offensively in that game.

Saints at Patriots odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Saints 20, Patriots 17

Money line

We’ve seen a completely dominant Saints and a completely dominated Saints team through the first two weeks. They should be able to give Patriots rookie QB Mac Jones some problems even though they struggled defensively in Week 2. However, if Lattimore can’t play, it does change things.

Both teams are strong defensively, so it comes down to quarterback play. Who do you trust more at this point? For me, it’s Winston, for now.

That’s why I lean SAINTS (+122).

Against the spread

Both teams are 1-1 ATS this season so far. The Patriots have the best ATS home record since 2015 at 34-19-3 ATS. However, most of that was with Tom Brady at quarterback.

Conversely, at 32-16-1 ATS, the Saints have fared the best against the spread on the road since 2015.

Expecting an outright Saints win, take the SAINTS +2.5 (+100).

Over/Under

This is where it seems like easy money.

Both teams are 0-2 O/U to the start the year. The Patriots have not allowed more than 17 points in a game, and the Saints have allowed only 29 points in their two games.

Both are in the top six in points allowed.

With two strong defenses, expect a low-scoring affair. Take UNDER 42.5 (-112).

Underdog corner: 3 best NFL ATS picks and predictions for Week 3

Assessing the NFL betting odds and lines for Week 3, with three predictions and picks for the best underdog bets to make.

It wasn’t quite the cacophony of the opening weekend, but NFL point-spread underdogs continued to bark in Week 2 with nine covers in 16 games, including five outright winners. We’ve been near the front of that pack here in Underdog Corner with a 6-0 against the spread record so far with five of our six NFL underdog picks winning straight up.

Now it’s time to see if we can stay on track in what very well could be a bounce-back week for the favorites. Eleven of 16 home teams are favored as of Wednesday’s NFL odds and lines. Five games had a mid-week spread of at least 7.5 points.

New Orleans Saints +2.5 (+105) at New England Patriots

The Saints are in a less-than-ideal spot playing a third straight road game after Hurricane Ida forced the relocation of the team’s season opener against the Green Bay Packers to a neutral site in Jacksonville, Fla.

However, the Saints figure to be healthier after their Week 2 bout with injuries and a mini COVID-19 outbreak which forced eight assistant coaches to miss the 26-7 drubbing against the Carolina Panthers. Speaking of coming off a loss, the Saints rank among the league’s best at bouncing back with a 16-7 straight up and 14-9 ATS records following a defeat since 2016.

So as long as QB Jameis Winston doesn’t channel New York Jets QB Zach Wilson of Wek 2 and throw the always-opportunistic Pats 4 interceptions, New Orleans should have just enough to get past rookie QB Mac Jones and the hosts, who have had trouble scoring touchdowns with just three through two games.

If the line remains under 3, go with the Saints (+122) on the money line.

Los Angeles Chargers +6.5 (-107) at Kansas City Chiefs

In one of the more remarkable current trends, QB Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have won 10 of their last 13 games, but they’ve notably managed to cover in only two of those contests. Similarly, K.C. is 4-2 SU against the Bolts over the last three seasons, but L.A. has won the ATS battle at 3-2-1 in that span.

Mahomes and Co. likely will find a way to win Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium, but if QB Justin Herbert and the Chargers can clean up some of the miscues they’ve had so far with killer penalties and dropped passes, they should keep things close against a K.C. defense which is off to a shaky start.

New York Jets +10.5 (-120) at Denver Broncos

The 0-2 Jets and 2-0 Broncos are obviously on opposite ends of the success spectrum so far, but this is mainly a situational play with the week’s lone double-digit spread.

Since the start of the 2018 season, teams favored by 10 or more points are 101-18 (.849) SU but are only 54-62-3 ATS (.466), per Pro Football Reference.

This is certainly unfamiliar territory for the Broncos who have been a double-digit favorite only twice (0-2 ATS) since 2015 so take the 10.5 points and hope Wilson has learned quickly from his aforementioned Week 2 struggles.

NFL Week 1 Can’t-Miss Parlay: 3 bets you can count on

Assessing the 3 best parlay bet options for Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season. Lock-in these wagers to maximize your payday.

The 2021 NFL season got off to a flying start Thursday night as Tom Brady and the defending-champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers outduel Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys.

Even if you missed on the Cowboys cover or the over, which flew past the total in the third quarter, there remain plenty of other prime Week 1 wagering opportunities with 15 games remaining. Here’s a three-leg, can’t-miss parlay to give your NFL bankroll an opening-week boost …

Leg 1: San Francisco 49ers -8.5 (-110) at Detroit Lions

At 6-10 in 2020, the Niners only won one more game than the Lions, but the franchises have been moving in opposite directions ever since. Head coach Kyle Shanahan’s crew in San Francisco has almost all of its primary players, including QB Jimmy Garoppolo, TE George Kittle and defensive standout Nick Bosa back and healthy after enduring the league’s worst injury situation in 2020.

They’ve also added some intriguing new pieces in rookie QB Trey Lance and RB Trey Sermon, making Shanahan’s daunting offensive schemes even more dangerous and unpredictable heading into Week 1’s clean slate.

The Lions, meanwhile, downgraded quarterbacks in trading longtime starter Matthew Stafford for Jared Goff, questionably handed over the squad to a quirky and unproven head coach in Dan Campbell and didn’t do nearly enough to shore up a defense that was scorched for the most average points (32.4) and total yards (419.8) per game in 2020.

Take the reinvigorated 49ERS and don’t fret over laying the 8.5 points on the road.

Leg 2: Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots UNDER 43.5 (-110)

Two young quarterbacks, including Pats rookie Mac Jones making his first start.

Two coaching staffs who know each other very well, including Patriots-defensive-coordinator-turned-Dolphins-head-coach Brian Flores.

Two above-average defenses, including the reinforced and revitalized Pats.

Two 2020 matchups that produced totals of 32 and 34 points.

We’re going with the UNDER 43.5 (-110).

Leg 3: Denver Broncos -3.5 (+105) at New York Giants

Both teams finished among the league’s bottom 12 a season ago, but the Broncos look to have made the most significant offseason strides.

The Giants’ injury-wracked offense, featuring turnover-prone QB Daniel Jones and one of the league’s worst offensive lines, looks to be overmatched against an improved Denver D returning Von Miller and featuring what looks to be one of the league’s elite secondaries.

So, if new QB Teddy Bridgewater can just bring a steady hand to the team’s talented young offense, the BRONCOS shouldn’t have too much trouble covering a road spread of 3.5 points (-135).

Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing the Week 1 Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Dolphins visit Gillette Stadium Sunday to tangle with the New England Patriots in their regular-season opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Dolphins vs. Patriots odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

Miami improved by five wins from 2019 to 2020 with a 10-6 record in head coach Brian Flores’ second season and tied the Buffalo Bills with the highest regular-season cover rate at 11-5 against the spread.

New England finished just 7-9  last season and wound up selecting QB Mac Jones with the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The 2020 season was the Patriots’ first sub-.500 campaign since head coach Bill Belichick’s first year on the job in 2000.

The reasons are obvious: It was the first season in the post-Tom Brady era and the Patriots had more than double the next-most adjusted games lost due to COVID-19 last year, according to Football Outsiders.

Dolphins at Patriots odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Dolphins 23, Patriots 20

Money line

Slight “LEAN” to the DOLPHINS (+160) for a quarter unit, if at all, because Miami plus the points is a wiser wager but there’s enough value with the underdog to sprinkle some change on the money line.

This game opened with New England laying just -125 on the money line before the Patriots were dropped 75 cents on the dollar.

Essentially, my idea is to fade that line movement because it’s due to New England making Jones the starting quarterback against one of the best defensive head coaches in the league.

New England’s price is increasing because the media is chirping about the more popular team. There’s no way the Patriots should be this heavy of a favorite starting a rookie in Week 1 with mediocre receivers.

Also see: Week 1 staff picks

Against the spread

Definitely BET the DOLPHINS +3.5 (-108) heavier than or instead of Miami’s money line as a fade against a lopsided betting market that has pushed this line past the key number of 3.

Furthermore, over the past five seasons, road underdogs are 14-7-1 ATS against divisional foes in Week 1. Miami is also tied for the second-best cover rate in division games (8-4 ATS) since hiring Flores.

Lastly, I’m higher than the market on Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa and Miami’s offense in his second season.

Tua came into his rookie season rehabbing a dislocated hip injury he suffered in college, didn’t get the benefit of a normal offseason due to the COVID pandemic and played in an offense built for former Miami QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Oh, and the Dolphins wide receiver room had the most adjusted games lost due to injury last season.

Over/Under

Dolphins-Patriots has all the makings of a low-scoring game with two young quarterbacks going against defensive wizards at head coach.

However, the market feels the same way and has hammered the Under so much so that sportsbooks have moved the total down from the 46.5-point opener to the listed number.

I hate following a crowd in sports betting and we are getting the worst of the number. PASS ON THE TOTAL.
