Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Los Angeles Chargers (2-3) face the Kansas City Chiefs (5-1) in Week 7 on Sunday at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Chargers vs. Chiefs odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Chargers failed to cover as 1.5-point home underdogs and the Under (49.5) hit in their 20-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6. Los Angeles was on a 2-game winning streak before losing to Dallas.

The Chiefs secured a 19-8 victory over the Denver Broncos in Week 6, covering as 10.5-point home favorites. The Under (47) also cleared, and Kansas City has won 5 straight games since losing in Week 1 to the Detroit Lions.

Chargers at Chiefs picks and predictions

Prediction

Chiefs 27, Chargers 20

Moneyline

While the Chiefs should defeat the Chargers, I’ll PASS on their moneyline at the current odds (-250).

Against the spread

CHIEFS -5.5 (-110) is an intriguing bet with QB Justin Herbert seemingly limited with his finger injury and without C Corey Linsley. We also get QB Patrick Mahomes taking on a Chargers defense that is ranked 24th in defensive DVOA.

The Chargers are 1-3-1 ATS compared to the Chiefs being 4-2 ATS this season. Kansas City is also 2-1 ATS in its 3 home games thus far.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 48 (-110).

Even though Mahomes is taking the field, this Chiefs defense isn’t getting enough credit for how it’s performed in the first 6 weeks. Kansas City’s defense is allowing only 14.7 points per game (2nd-fewest in the NFL).

The Chiefs are still figuring things out at the wide receiver position, and these teams are a combined 4-7 to the Over this season.

Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Kansas City Chiefs (1-0) kick off their 2022 home schedule against the Los Angeles Chargers (1-0) Thursday at Arrowhead Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET (Prime Video). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Chargers vs. Chiefs odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Chiefs got off to a hot start in Week 1 by defeating the Arizona Cardinals 44-21. QB Patrick Mahomes won AFC Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 360 yards and 5 TDs.

The Chargers already have a win over an AFC West rival under their belt, beating the visiting Las Vegas Raiders 24-19 in Week 1. Chargers QB Justin Herbert threw for 279 yards and 3 TDs.

Since 1960, the Chiefs lead the all-time series over the Chargers 65-58-1. The Chargers are 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last 4 games against the Chiefs. The two squads split their series straight up and against the spread 1-1 in 2021. The Chargers won 30-24 as road underdogs in their 1st matchup last season, while the Chiefs needed overtime for a 34-28 victory and cover in the 2nd matchup on a Thursday night in L.A.

Chargers at Chiefs picks and predictions

Prediction

Chiefs 38, Chargers 31

Money line

The Chiefs offense appears to be just fine without WR Tyreek Hill, who went to the Miami Dolphins during the offseason. The Bolts will be missing a key cog with WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) out. With that in mind, it’s tough to consider the Chargers with the money line here, and the Chiefs’ money line doesn’t provide a good enough payout to make it worth consideration. Go ahead and PASS on the money line unless you’re including it in a parlay.

Against the spread

I would lightly play CHIEFS -4.5 (-108) based on their Week 1 domination over the Arizona Cardinals. The Chiefs and Chargers usually play each other close, but keep in mind both of their matchups in 2021 were decided by 6 points.

Over/Under

The OVER 54.5 (-108) seems like the safest bet. These teams scored 54 and 62 total points in their 2 matchups last season and put up a combined 68 points last week. This game is poised to be another thriller like last season’s Thursday night matchup.

Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing the Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs Week 3 odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

In Week 3, we get our first AFC West divisional showdown as the Los Angeles Chargers (1-1) are on the road to face the Kansas City Chiefs (1-1). Kickoff is Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at Arrowhead Stadium. Below, we look at the Chargers at Chiefs odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Chargers started the season with a hard-fought 20-16 win over the Washington Football Team on the road. QB Justin Herbert passed for 337 yards and the Chargers gained 424 total yards and their defense held Washington to only 259.

However, they turned the ball over twice so it was harder than it should have been. They followed that up with a 20-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, who kicked a 56-yard field goal as time expired for the win. L.A. had over 400 yards of offense again but Herbert threw two interceptions.

The Chiefs have been in two shootouts, outlasting the Cleveland Browns 33-29 in Week 1 and then losing 36-35 to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has six touchdown passes in two games but the defense has allowed over 450 yards in both their games this season.

Chargers at Chiefs odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Chiefs 38, Chargers 35

Money line

PASS on the money line. The Chiefs have not lost consecutive games since October 2019 and have the second-best home record in the league at 16-5 since 2019.

The Chargers are 7-10 on the road in that same time frame, although they have won two of the last three matchups in Kansas City.

Believing the Chiefs will win the game, betting the money line at -300 just doesn’t bring the value.

That said, if you think the Chargers have a chance, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to lay down some change on the Chargers here gives you the best value of any wager here.

Against the spread

The Chargers are 1-1 ATS this season while the Chiefs have failed to cover the spread in either game this season and that follows last year’s 8-11 ATS season (including the postseason).

The Kansas City defense is going to keep the Chiefs from running away from teams, and this week they face an incredibly potent Chargers offense.

This will come down to the wire.

Take the CHARGERS +6.5 (-105).

Over/Under

The Chargers have piled up the yards this season but only have 37 points to show for it. The Chiefs have given up 65 points in two games.

Both of the Chiefs’ games have had totals in the 60s.

This is the week yards turn into points for the Chargers.

Take OVER 54.5 (-108).

Underdog corner: 3 best NFL ATS picks and predictions for Week 3

Assessing the NFL betting odds and lines for Week 3, with three predictions and picks for the best underdog bets to make.

It wasn’t quite the cacophony of the opening weekend, but NFL point-spread underdogs continued to bark in Week 2 with nine covers in 16 games, including five outright winners. We’ve been near the front of that pack here in Underdog Corner with a 6-0 against the spread record so far with five of our six NFL underdog picks winning straight up.

Now it’s time to see if we can stay on track in what very well could be a bounce-back week for the favorites. Eleven of 16 home teams are favored as of Wednesday’s NFL odds and lines. Five games had a mid-week spread of at least 7.5 points.

New Orleans Saints +2.5 (+105) at New England Patriots

The Saints are in a less-than-ideal spot playing a third straight road game after Hurricane Ida forced the relocation of the team’s season opener against the Green Bay Packers to a neutral site in Jacksonville, Fla.

However, the Saints figure to be healthier after their Week 2 bout with injuries and a mini COVID-19 outbreak which forced eight assistant coaches to miss the 26-7 drubbing against the Carolina Panthers. Speaking of coming off a loss, the Saints rank among the league’s best at bouncing back with a 16-7 straight up and 14-9 ATS records following a defeat since 2016.

So as long as QB Jameis Winston doesn’t channel New York Jets QB Zach Wilson of Wek 2 and throw the always-opportunistic Pats 4 interceptions, New Orleans should have just enough to get past rookie QB Mac Jones and the hosts, who have had trouble scoring touchdowns with just three through two games.

If the line remains under 3, go with the Saints (+122) on the money line.

Los Angeles Chargers +6.5 (-107) at Kansas City Chiefs

In one of the more remarkable current trends, QB Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have won 10 of their last 13 games, but they’ve notably managed to cover in only two of those contests. Similarly, K.C. is 4-2 SU against the Bolts over the last three seasons, but L.A. has won the ATS battle at 3-2-1 in that span.

Mahomes and Co. likely will find a way to win Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium, but if QB Justin Herbert and the Chargers can clean up some of the miscues they’ve had so far with killer penalties and dropped passes, they should keep things close against a K.C. defense which is off to a shaky start.

New York Jets +10.5 (-120) at Denver Broncos

The 0-2 Jets and 2-0 Broncos are obviously on opposite ends of the success spectrum so far, but this is mainly a situational play with the week’s lone double-digit spread.

Since the start of the 2018 season, teams favored by 10 or more points are 101-18 (.849) SU but are only 54-62-3 ATS (.466), per Pro Football Reference.

This is certainly unfamiliar territory for the Broncos who have been a double-digit favorite only twice (0-2 ATS) since 2015 so take the 10.5 points and hope Wilson has learned quickly from his aforementioned Week 2 struggles.

Chargers at Chiefs: Game notes

  • Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is among the star players sitting out the regular-season finale. He’ll be replaced by backup Chad Henne, who has completed 5 of 6 pass attempts for 30 yards in two brief appearances this year.
  • The Chiefs snuck away with a 23-20 overtime win in their Week 2 game against the Chargers. The game marked the debut of Los Angeles rookie QB Justin Herbert, as Week 1 starter Tyrod Taylor was ruled out moments before the game due to a mishap with a pregame injection.
  • Herbert is a landslide betting favorite by BetMGM‘s odds to be the Offensive Rookie of the Year at -2000. The No. 6 pick out of Oregon has 4,034 yards and 28 touchdown passes against 10 interceptions. He has another 4 scores on the ground.
  • Mahomes is No. 2 by the odds for the AP MVP at +350 (behind Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers’ -400), and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is sixth by the odds for Coach of the Year at +1800.
  • Herbert threw for 311 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT in his Week 2 debut against the Chiefs. Mahomes threw for 302 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win and PK Harrison Butker kicked game-tying and game-winning field goals.
  • The Chargers have rung up three straight wins over the Atlanta Falcons (20-17), Las Vegas Raiders (30-27, OT) and Denver Broncos (19-16).
  • The Chiefs have won three straight and 12 of their last 13 games against the Chargers.
  • Kansas City has just one loss since Week 10 of last season.

Chargers at Chiefs: Key injuries

Chargers

  • Jahleel Addae (calf) questionable
  • WR Keenan Allen (COVID-19 list) out
  • DE Joey Bosa (shin, concussion) questionable
  • OT Bryan Bulaga (foot) questionable
  • CB Casey Hayward (hamstring) questionable

Chiefs

  • RB Le’Veon Bell (knee) questionable
  • WR Tyreek Hill (hamstring) questionable
  • RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle) doubtful
  • WR Sammy Watkins (calf) questionable

Chargers at Chiefs: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Chargers 23, Chiefs 16

Money line (?)

The CHARGERS’ (-185) late-season winning streak will likely prove to be too little too late to save the job of head coach Anthony Lynn, but expect Herbert to end his impressive rookie campaign with a statement win over the Chiefs’ second team.

Against the spread (?)

Better value lies in backing the CHARGERS -3.5 (-105) to win by at least 4 points. They led after the first, second and third quarters in their narrow Week 2 loss against the reigning Super Bowl champs.

Reid will be hiding his best plays in preparation for the playoffs so even the injury-ravaged Chargers defense should have little trouble against a dull attack led by Henne.

Over/Under (?)

A Week 17 slate flush with mostly meaningless games features plenty of low totals, and this is no exception. Stick with the UNDER 43.5 (-115) as the Chiefs will just be trying to drain the clock and get to the AFC Divisional Round at full health.
