Remaining top targets for Ohio State football in the 2024 recruiting class

Which top remaining targets would you like to see join the 2024 Buckeyes class? #GoBucks

As we all know, [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] scored a massive recruiting win on Tuesday evening when five-star defensive lineman [autotag]Eddrick Houston[/autotag] committed to the Buckeyes.

The huge addition brings the 2024 Ohio State recruiting class to 22: 13 on offense, 8 on defense and one specialist. As many as four more players could  join the class, but that doesn’t mean head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] is looking only at that number of remaining prospects.

Find out below which recruits that the Buckeyes are still actively going after and an update on their recruitment and when they might commit. (All recruiting rankings are via the 247Sports Composite Rankings.)

Report: Ohio State is trying to flip two 2024 defensive targets

The Buckeyes are still going after these two committed prospects #GoBucks

With recruiting, any prospect committed is just a tentative agreement with the school until they officially sign. That means [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag], like others, continues to recruit players who have made their verbals.

The Buckeyes situation is unique. They have assembled one of the top offensive groups of commits in the country, so their recently focus has been on the defensive side of the ball.

They have hit on a few of their main targets, defensive tackle Justin Scott and cornerback Miles Lockhart.

There were a few they missed out on. According to two Rivals recruiting experts, however, the Buckeyes aren’t done trying to flip some prospects. Find out below which two players Ohio State is still heavily recruiting.

Miami and Michigan among 6 schools to add 4-star recruits this week

Six other schools have added blue chip recruits since then, though.

Normally a quiet time of year, this week has seen a flurry of activity on the recruiting circuit. The biggest prize so far has gone to Ohio State, who got a commitment from Chicago five-star DL Justin Scott on Sunday night.

Six other schools have added blue chip recruits since then, though. That includes a couple of edge prospects for both Miami and Michigan. Here’s a quick review of who they are and where they are headed at the next level.

Ohio State misses on top-rated defensive lineman

You win some — you lose some. #GoBucks

All signs seemed to point to Ohio State landing another one of the country’s top-ranked defensive linemen on Monday, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Thought to be a heavy OSU lean, Marquise Lightfoot, out of Chicago, committed to the Miami Hurricanes instead. At 6 feet, 5 inches and 220 pounds, Lightfoot is the No. 6 edge rusher and No. 67 prospect overall in the 2024 class on the 247Sports composite.

It’s a bit of a hit to a class that is shaping up to potentially be one of the best in the history of the Ohio State program, but that disappointment was lessened by the somewhat unexpected news of the commitment of defensive linemen Justin Scott on Sunday.

The Buckeyes have 17 commitments for 2024, and rumblings continue that more high-profile targets could enter the fold in the upcoming weeks.

We’ll keep you posted on any further developing news in the unpredictable and somewhat variable nature of big-time college football recruiting.

Ohio State 2024 Illinois defensive end target to announce commitment on Monday

Is a BOOM coming Monday?!? #GoBucks

The dominoes of the official visit season are starting to fall and [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] is looking to capitalize on its efforts during that time.

One of the priority prospects is Illinois 2024 defensive end [autotag]Marquise Lightfoot[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 5-inch, 225 pound edge rusher officially visited Columbus in early July and then he trimmed his list down with Ohio State making the cut.

Nothing has changed in that regard, as all of them are still favoring the Buckeyes and Lightfoot now has decided when he will make his verbal commitment this coming Monday and choose from six different schools.

The No. 68 overall player and 6th ranked edge defender told me earlier this year that the draw to Ohio State had a lot to do with defensive line coach [autotag]Larry Johnson[/autotag].

If Lightfoot commits to the Buckeyes, they will add an extremely high-level pass rusher and keep the Illinois to Columbus pipeline open. He’ll be choosing between OSU, Alabama, Illinois, Georgia, Miami (FL), and USC.

Ohio State 2024 defensive line target has Buckeyes in top six

Fresh off a visit to Columbus, the Buckeyes are firmly in the mix #GoBucks

Fresh off his official visit to Columbus, Illinois based 2024 defensive end [autotag]Marquise Lightfoot[/autotag] has trimmed his list down to just six schools with [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] making the cut.

Lightfoot was one of the many prospects who received crystal ball selections to eventually join the Buckeye 2024 recruiting class. The 6-foot, 5-inch, and 220-pound edge rusher is among the top players in the country, as Lightfoot is ranked as the 6th best at his position and 67th overall national prospect according to the 247Sports composite.

Although Lightfoot still has more than a few official visits left on his current schedule, the Buckeyes put themselves in a very good position in his recruitment after this visit.

Although Lightfoot does not currently have a decision date, the Buckeyes seem like the team to beat at the moment.

Alabama offers 2024 edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot

2024 EDGE Marquise Lightfoot landed an offer from Alabama on Saturday. Lightfoot holds offers from eight other SEC programs as well.

Alabama extended an offer to 2024 edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot on Saturday. Lightfoot currently holds 35 offers from programs all across the country.

Lightfoot plays for Kenwood Academy in Chicago, Illinois. During his junior season, Lightfoot tallied 122 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and nine sacks. He helped lead the Broncos to the state semifinals in Class 6A.

Lightfoot has taken unofficial visits to Notre Dame, Tennessee, Nebraska, and Michigan. He took his most recent trip to Tuscaloosa over the weekend for Alabama’s Junior Day.

The Fighting Irish currently hold the lead to land Lightfoot’s commitment at 30.6% likelihood, according to On3’s RPM.

Roll Tide Wire breaks down Marquise Lightfoot’s recruiting profile.

Report: Notre Dame may have ground to make up with 5-star defensive lineman

Not the best news here

Even though I am no longer a high school football scout in Illinois, I still have some good connections, and something I heard over the weekend regarding [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] needed to be shared.

My source spoke about two recruits to me, Kenwood defensive end [autotag]Marquise Lightfoot[/autotag] and St. Ignatius defensive tackle [autotag]Justin Scott[/autotag]. I was told Scott was definitely leaning toward committing to the Irish had he kept his original commitment date in January, but as we all know, Scott pushed back his commitment.

Another tidbit my source told me was there is potential for Scott to be a package deal with Lightfoot. If you look at who the Kenwood star is highly considering, it is Ohio State, Georgia and USC with Alabama also in consideration.

That doesn’t mean that Scott has ruled out the Irish but it is making the job that much more difficult. It looks like the defensive tackle will also visit Georgia in April, and he retweeted this report today.

Head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] must now juggle multiple open positions on his coaching staff while trying to secure another top class in the 2024 cycle.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound edge rusher also plays some tight end for Kenwood Academy. The four-star edge rusher has recently visited Wisconsin and Michigan.

Lightfoot has received recent scholarship offers from Louisville, Miami, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. The junior made the 6A All-State team in Illinois. Lightfoot recorded nine sacks and 122 total tackles during the 2022 high school football season.

Source: Ohio State has the potential to land a pair of top Illinois defensive lineman

A 5-star and an elite prospect could end up in Columbus

As a former scout in the state of Illinois, I have kept in contact with a few coaches and this weekend I ran into one with big time connections to a pair of [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] targets.

What he told me was very interesting and could very well mean that both could ultimately land in Columbus. Although our conversation was brief, there was plenty to takeaway from what he told me.

Find out below some of the latest information on two Illinois 2024 defensive lineman’s recruitment and where each of them could be leaning to play at the next level.
