Miami and Michigan among 6 schools to add 4-star recruits this week

Six other schools have added blue chip recruits since then, though.

Normally a quiet time of year, this week has seen a flurry of activity on the recruiting circuit. The biggest prize so far has gone to Ohio State, who got a commitment from Chicago five-star DL Justin Scott on Sunday night.

Six other schools have added blue chip recruits since then, though. That includes a couple of edge prospects for both Miami and Michigan. Here’s a quick review of who they are and where they are headed at the next level.

Michigan football loses out on Ohio 4-star CB to Kentucky

As expected, unfortunately.

Michigan football wanted at least some combination of Ohio-based cornerbacks to come in and don the winged helmet in the 2024 class. But the chances of such are dwindling significantly.

While Springfield (Ohio) four-star Aaron Scott has long been seen as the primary target, Bryce West was the 1B to his 1A. But West pledged to rival Ohio State during his official visit to Columbus, shortly after he was in Ann Arbor and declared to be 50-50 between the rival schools.

That left Terhyon Nichols from Cincinnati (Ohio) Withrow, who also reportedly had an exceptional official visit. While Michigan never fully trended for Nichols, it did appear as if the Wolverines would get him if they really wanted him. However, on Sunday, Nichols chose to cross the border in the other direction, committing to Kentucky.

With Nichols off the board, Scott is now the only remaining high-profile cornerback target on the radar. The Wolverines will have to expand the board if they want to get two corners in this class or consider hitting the transfer portal (again) to fill up the position.

Two Michigan football targets trending to Kentucky

Not great!

Michigan football’s torrid recruiting start has slowed a bit of late. While the Wolverines are still reeling in some commitments, it went from seeming like the maize and blue would get whoever they wanted to recruits who appeared to be trending to Ann Arbor now choosing to go elsewhere, with the occasional reprieve.

Take Brian Robinson, the longtime Michigan lean from Youngstown (Ohio) Fitch. The edge rusher has been a frequent visitor on campus and has had 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions indicating he’d be a Wolverine going back to September 2022. But now, it appears that Kentucky is making moves for the four-star. Josh Edwards from CatsPause put in a prediction that he’ll end up in Lexington.

Edwards put in another prediction for a player that Michigan football had coveted for Kentucky, but he was joined by a heavy hitter from 247Sports.

Four-star cornerback Terhyon Nichols visited Ann Arbor in the final official visit weekend and appeared that he could be Michigan’s for the taking. The Cincinnati (Ohio) Withrow defensive back has an Ohio State offer but like many in the 2024 class had a lot of momentum driving him up north. However, Edwards and 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong both put in predictions that Nichols will choose Kentucky when he decides on July 2.

While these aren’t major blows, per se, it certainly will feel like it if Michigan misses out on all three of the players set to decide on July 1 — DT Deyvid Palepale, S Jordon Johnson-Rubell, and CB Jameer Grimsley.

Unfortunately, all three are indeed trending elsewhere with the expectations that they’ll end up at USC, Texas, and Alabama, respectively.

Michigan 2024 4-star CB target sets commitment date, time

Let’s hope #Michigan can land him!

Michigan is sitting at 24 commitments in the 2024 class, and the Wolverines are filling the class out nicely. One big thing missing in the class is cornerbacks. It’s not without trying though. The Wolverines were right in it for Glenville (Ohio) corner Bryce West, but he ultimately decided to stay home and commit to Ohio State. The maize and blue are also trying to sway Springfield (Ohio) corner Aaron Scott to commit to the Wolverines over OSU.

Another corner Michigan is trying to get in the 2024 class is Cincinnati (Ohio) Withrow four-star cornerback, Terhyon Nichols.

Nichols announced on Twitter he will be announcing his commitment on Sunday, July 2. He will pick between Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Kentucky.

The 6-foot corner is ranked as a four-star recruit according to the Composite. He is the 284th-ranked recruit in the class, the No. 23 corner, and the ninth-best recruit in Ohio in the 2024 cycle.

Nichols is coming off of an official visit to Ann Arbor last weekend, and things went great by all accounts. However, there are no Crystal Ball predictions in from 247Sports on where Nichols may go.

Looking at On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Kentucky has a slight lead to get Nichols. The Wildcats have a 27.6% to land the coveted four-star. The Wolverines are second with a 19.4% chance.

Ohio State makes final six for in-state 2024 cornerback

The Buckeyes are making a late push for the in-state corner. #GoBucks

The focus for [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] football for much of the remainder of the 2024 recruiting cycle is going to be on defense.

Multiple prospects are strongly considering the Buckeyes, and some are local products. Cincinnati cornerback [autotag]Terhyon Nichols[/autotag] announced his final six schools, and Ohio State made the cut.

There is a Midwest feel to his six contenders, as Nichols seems to want to stay fairly close to home at his next stop.

The 6-foot, 180-pound defender is ranked as the No. 29 cornerback and No. 329 player overall on the 247Sports composite. That puts Nichols as a four-star prospect.

Nichols has not yet scheduled an official visit to Columbus. If one gets put on the calendar, the chances of a verbal will go up. The relationship between him and the Buckeye coaching staff has ramped up recently, especially considering his offer came just a few weeks ago.

2024 Ohio-based defensive back puts Michigan football in top group

More good news for #Michigan out of Ohio. #GoBlue

Michigan football is working diligently to steal players from the state of Ohio that the Buckeyes covet, thus reversing the narrative Jim Tressel set back in 2001.

The Wolverines already have four players committed from the Buckeye State and have been all-in working on cornerbacks Bryce West and Aaron Scott.

But there is another prospect who could end up wearing maize and blue who also plays cornerback and hails from the state of Ohio.

2024 Cincinnati (Ohio) Withrow four-star cornerback Terhyon Nichols is set to visit Ann Arbor near the end of June. He also has an Ohio State offer. Nichols released a top six on Wednesday, and Michigan football made the cut with OSU, Penn State, Kentucky, Cincinnati and Pitt.

Nichols is the No. 329 player in the country per the 247Sports composite, the 29th-best cornerback and ninth-rated player from the state of Ohio.

Certainly, Aaron Scott is likely the highest priority at the position for the Wolverines, but given Michigan stole Jordan Marshall away from the Buckeyes, taking any other Ohio-based player who has an offer to play in Columbus would be seen as a big coup.

Michigan football to get official visit from 4-Star CB from Ohio

It’s a Buckeye State invasion! #GoBlue

There are still several big names that Michigan football is targeting in the state of Ohio in 2024, especially at cornerback.

While all eyes are on cornerbacks Bryce West and Aaron Scott, two of the top players in the state, there is another who is getting some attention from the maize and blue.

2024 Cincinnati (Ohio) Withrow four-star CB Terhyon Nichols is rated the No. 321 player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite, the 29th-best corner, and the ninth-best player in the state of Ohio.

As he looks for his next school of choice, Nichols has arranged a series of official visits in the month of June. Thus far, he has set Pitt on June 9, Penn State on June 16, and Michigan on June 23.

Nichols also has offers from Kentucky and Notre Dame, but not Ohio State.
