Remaining top targets for Ohio State football in the 2024 recruiting class

Which top remaining targets would you like to see join the 2024 Buckeyes class? #GoBucks

As we all know, [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] scored a massive recruiting win on Tuesday evening when five-star defensive lineman [autotag]Eddrick Houston[/autotag] committed to the Buckeyes.

The huge addition brings the 2024 Ohio State recruiting class to 22: 13 on offense, 8 on defense and one specialist. As many as four more players could  join the class, but that doesn’t mean head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] is looking only at that number of remaining prospects.

Find out below which recruits that the Buckeyes are still actively going after and an update on their recruitment and when they might commit. (All recruiting rankings are via the 247Sports Composite Rankings.)

Ohio State makes final five for 2024 Florida defensive end

The Buckeyes could have another Pickett dominating their defensive line in the future #GoBucks

The last name of Pickett is familiar to [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] fans after Ryan dominated the middle of the Buckeye defensive line from 1998 to 2000.

His nephew, [autotag]Booker Pickett Jr.[/autotag], is a 6-foot, 3-inch and 205-pound edge rusher who is highly considering following in his uncles footsteps. The elder Booker played for Miami in the mid-90’s, is an intriguing option for the Florida native as well.

Both schools made Pickett Jr.’s final five along with South Carolina, Georgia and Florida State. The defender is ranked as No. 13 edge rusher and the 190th overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He made an unofficial visit to Columbus during the spring, but has yet to make any official visits.

Nephew of former Ohio State star says Buckeyes are still in the picture

The name Pickett would look great in Scarlet and Gray once again. #GoBucks

Ryan Pickett starred at Ohio State in the late 90s through 2000. He was a force to be reckoned with on the Buckeye defensive line and was a first-round NFL draft selection by the St. Louis Rams. He played 14 seasons in the league with the Rams, Packers and Texans, winning a Super Bowl with Green Bay in 2011.

The nephew of former Ohio State star Booker Pickett put the Buckeyes in his top nine schools this past February, but he has been somewhat quiet since. He took an official visit to OSU in June, but there was no real buzz one way or another after his visit to Columbus.

Some bait was recently put in the water when Pickett was tagged in a Twitter post to see if the Buckeyes were “still in the running” for his services. Pickett saw the tweet and responded positively with a #GoBuckeyes.

That’s certainly a positive response that will have Buckeye fans smiling.  Pickett is the No. 13 edge rusher in the 2024 class on the 247Sports composite.

Other schools being considered are Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Miami (Florida), Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee and USC.

Who is next at defensive end for Ohio State in the 2024 recruiting cycle?

Which top defensive end target do you think lands in Columbus? #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] missed on one of its main defensive end targets when Illinois prospect Marquise Lightfoot committed to Miami (Florida).

Many, including myself, thought the 6-foot, 5-inch, 220-pound edge rusher would end up in Columbus. It was a recruiting loss for sure, especially since the coaching staff really put significant resources into getting Lightfoot’s attention.

The good news is the spot he would have taken frees up for another high-level prospect. Find out who the Buckeyes are still actively recruiting at the position and my guess as to how likely each will end up in Columbus on a scale of 1 to 5. (All rankings are from the 247Sports composite.)

Penn State makes final nine of 4-star DE Booker Pickett

Penn State made the latest cut of top schools for this Class of 2024 four-star DE out of Florida

Penn State keeps trying to fortify their 2024 recruiting class. Four-star recruit, [autotag]Booker Pickett Jr.[/autotag] narrowed his list to nine schools with Penn State making the list.

The Tampa, Florida native plays for Wharton High School where he has racked up 60.0 sacks in three years according to Max Preps statistics.

The Under Armour All-American is a consensus top 100 prospect in the country. At 6’4″ and 200 lbs, Pickett fits the prototype of an edge rusher in today’s game.

His list of nine includes, Penn State, Miami, Ohio State, Georgia, USC, South Carolina, Florida State, Tennessee, and Louisville.

Speaking to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Pickett had this to say about Penn State, “They develop DE’s amazing. I know if I go there they will make me a great end, and the culture in the stadium is crazy. I love it.”

Right now, On3’s recruiting prediction machine gives Miami a 50.0% chance of landing Pickett and Ohio State a 29.6% chance. These numbers have not been updated since his list was cut down to nine programs.

Penn State is no stranger to Florida recruits. Five out of the last six recruiting classes have had at least one Florida native, including freshman standout Kaytron Allen in the 2022 class.

Offense is the primary target for [autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] when dipping into Florida. Out of the 11 Florida recruits from the past six years, only three have been on the defensive side of the ball.

Pickett would be a very important get for Penn State in the 2024 class. Right now, they are struggling with two commits putting them at 27th in the country according to 247Sports.

Here are some Penn State football recruits to keep on your radar

Who are some recruits to keep an eye on for Penn State football?

We head into another offseason of Penn State football, and James Franklin continues his work on the recruiting train.

The Nittany Lions are losing some depth at key positions, and they look to build on that before next fall.

They continue to build on the positive trajectory of linebackers, bringing in a 2024 four-star in Anthony Speca earlier this week. Linebacker [autotag]Abdul Carter[/autotag] had an impressive first year with Penn State. They also brought back Curtis Jacobs, adding more experience to their youthful linebacker room.

We have spent the past few weeks looking a little bit further ahead into the 2024 class of recruits. While there are many already committed to school and others heating up for other schools, there are still plenty of other recruits to take a look at, especially for Penn State football.

Now, who are some of these recruits for Penn State football? Let’s take a closer look.

Notre Dame offers big time 2024 athlete from Florida

The Irish are hitting the 2024 class hard

The Irish have gotten their first commitment this week in the 2024 class, Michigan defensive end Brandon Davis-Swain, shortly after the Blue vs. Gold game over the weekend. That is just the start and Marcus Freeman and his staff are hard at working looking for their next potential commitment.

Earlier today, Florida athlete Booker Pickett Jr. tweeted out that he has received an offer from Notre Dame. At six-foot-four-inches and 200-pounds, Pickett Jr. could grow into a defensive end or could play behind the end at outside linebacker or even a hybrid, think former Irish linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. The Irish are included in Pickett Jr.’s ever growing offer list that already includes Georgia, Auburn, Ohio State, Michigan, USC and others.

It looks like linebackers coach Al Washington is leading the charge for Pickett Jr.’s verbal, as he was tagged in the announcement of the offer. It still early in the Florida athlete’s recruitment, but getting on him early is a good start for the Irish.
