The former four-star safety recruit is a physical tackler, big-hitter, and is good in coverage. Cine has been a key piece of some of the best defenses in the nation throughout his career with the Bulldogs.

Cine thanked Georgia Bulldog fans, coaches, players, and more upon announcing his intentions to enter the NFL draft via Twitter:

Georgia safety Christopher Smith is returning, so that will give the Bulldogs some continuity at the safety position.

Lewis Cine’s presence will be missed. Cine helped UGA have the No. 13 pass defense in the country. Cine is projected to be a late second-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft. He’s got what it takes to play at the NFL level.

Georgia defensive players break down challenge Michigan’s offense poses

It’ll be a huge battle up front. #GoBlue

DANIA BEACH, Fla. — It’s a misconception that Michigan football’s offense is all ground and pound. Yes, the Wolverines want to run the ball, but U-M boasts the most explosive plays over 50 yards in all of college football. And it gets it done both on the ground and through the air.

Of course, Michigan will run if it knows it can win the game doing so. But as we’ve seen in other games — Wisconsin, Michigan State, Maryland — the Wolverines will throw if that’s something that the defense gives.

Now, Georgia’s defense gives very little. It’s statistically among the top defenses in the country and advanced analytics sites like PFF feature the Bulldogs as No. 1. However, UGA fell apart on that side of the ball against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. Naturally, the maize and blue are hoping to replicate that success while Georgia is looking for a return to dominance.

It’ll be easier said than done, of course. Michigan’s offensive elite won the Joe Moore Award, and the Wolverines will likely feature the most physical front that the Dawgs have seen all year.

Star defensive tackle Jordan Davis is leery of the Wolverine front, saying there’s really no other team that Georgia has faced that he can compare it to.

“They’re definitely a physical team, and it’s a tremendous challenge for our front seven,” Davis said. “In comparison, I can’t really compare them. Each team is different. But we’re excited to play them. We’re excited for the challenge. We’re just ready to get out there.”

The secondary could have its issues, as well. As mentioned, the Wolverines don’t pass much, but when they do, explosive plays are often the result.

Safety Lewis Cine is particularly familiar with one Michigan player, Mike Sainristil, as the two were high school teammates at Everett (Mass.) High School, and remain close friends to this day. When he looks at the maize and blue’s success, he doesn’t think it’s strictly due to Josh Gattis’ scheme or anything — it’s a result of elite players making elite plays.

“For one it’s definitely the players, the players they have,” Cine said. “A team wouldn’t be what they are without good players. They have some really good, explosive players from offense, running backs, slot receivers, tight ends, even their quarterbacks. The players make the majority of who they are, and then good coaching with their head coach, receiving coordinators coaching, a lot of those guys I’m familiar with. So it all comes to those two factors really.”

We’ll see which side wins the battle on Dec. 31 when the Wolverines and Bulldogs face off in the Capital One Orange Bowl in Miami Gardens.

Mock draft watch: Draft Wire’s 3 rounds of restocking the Lions

Breaking down the latest 3-round mock draft for the Detroit Lions from our friends at Draft Wire

The latest mock draft from our friends at Draft Wire and editor Luke Easterling touches on a lot of the primary needs for the Detroit Lions. In the three-round mock for 2022, Detroit gets potential impact talents on both sides of the ball.

The No. 1 overall pick stands pat with Oregon EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux. While many recent mock drafts have switched to Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson as the top selection, Easterling sticks with Thibodeaux,

There’s no quarterback worth taking here, so the Lions take the best overall prospect in this year’s class. Despite dealing with injuries this season, Thibodeaux has still been a dominant force.

The quarterback comes with the second first-round pick, the one acquired via trade from the Los Angeles Rams. In this projection, it’s North Carolina’s Sam Howell. The dual-threat passer has steadied his draft stock after a lousy first game. Howell gets the nod over some promising wide receivers, including Alabama’s Jameson Williams and USC’s Drake London.

It might be hard for the Lions to pass up any of the talented receivers still on the board here, but if there’s a quarterback they like, this is the pick to land him. Howell has bounced back impressively from a shaky season opener, and getting that extra fifth-year option on a quarterback is too valuable.

The receiver arrives in the form of Penn State standout Jahan Dotson with the first pick of the second round. With the first pick of the third round, No. 65 overall, Georgia safety Lewis Cine gets the nod.

5 Bulldogs to watch in the SEC Championship

5 Bulldogs to watch as Alabama and Georgia battle for the SEC Championship!

It’s that time of year again, the two best teams in the SEC head over to Atlanta to battle it out for the SEC Championship.

This year, like several years in the past, is a matchup between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs. It’s Nick Saban vs. Kirby Smart.

Smart will lead the top-ranked Bulldogs into the contest, securely in the playoffs. Smark will also look to knock off his former boss for the first time ever. Saban brings the Tide into the matchup most likely needing a win to ensure a spot in the playoff.

Either way a lot is on the line and coach Saban and coach Smart won’t take one single snap in the contest. They will prepare their teams and it will be up to the guys between the lines to make the plays.

Today we will look at five Georgia Bulldogs that you should be keeping your eye on.

Where do Georgia players rank in Mel Kiper’s position rankings for the NFL draft?

Georgia set a school record during the 2021 NFL draft when it had nine Bulldogs selected, breaking its previous record of eight players (2002, 2013).

This year, Georgia will look to break that record again and send double-digit players into the NFL.

ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper has ranked each position group’s top-ten players for next year’s draft, and included ten Georgia Bulldogs.

Here is where they all rank in Kiper’s position rankings:

Georgia DB Lewis Cine named a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist

Lewis Cine getting some love. About time.

I’ve said it many times — Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Lewis Cine might be the best open field tackler in college football.

The dude simply does not miss and has now racked up 28 total tackles this season, which is third on the team behind Channing Tindall and Nakobe Dean.

The Paycom Jim Thorpe Award, which is given annually to the nation’s best defensive back in college football, has taken notice as well.

Cine was named one of the 12 semifinalist for the award on Monday morning.

The former four-star out of Cedar Hill, Texas has been exceptional in his three years at Georgia. Last year, Cine tallied 52 total tackles and hardly missed an opportunity to stop an opposing player in his tracks.

Two Georgia Bulldogs among top-10 safeties for 2022 NFL draft

Two Georgia football safeties, Lewis Cine and Tykee Smith, are among the top 10 safeties for 2022 NFL draft.

Georgia is looking really solid at the safety position for the upcoming 2021 college football season.

Returning to Athens is Lewis Cine, a hard-hitting junior who recorded 38 tackles in 2020. Newcomer Tykee Smith, a transfer from West Virginia, joins Cine to form a deadly duo. Smith is considered a pre-season All-American by many outlets.

Pro Football Network, which recently released its rankings of the top safeties for the 2022 NFL draft, is also high on Smith, ranking him as the third-best safety in next year’s draft class.

As for Cine, Pro Football Network has him at No. 7.

From PFF:

After two seasons of dominating the Big 12 for West Virginia, Tykee Smith entered the transfer portal in late March. It’s safe to say he was the best defensive player in the portal during the spring. Having lost most of their secondary to this year’s draft, Georgia now has two of the top safeties in the 2022 NFL Draft with Smith and Lewis Cine.

As a Mountaineer last season, Smith (5 feet, 11 inches, 198 pounds) was a finalist for the 2020 Jim Thorpe Award, given to the nation’s top defensive back. He was the second highest graded defensive back in the country (85.3), according to PFF.

The junior racked up 61 tackles, 2 interceptions, and added 5 passes defended while helping West Virginia’s defense to the No. 1 passing defense in the country in 2020 (159.6 ypg), in a pass-heavy Big 12 conference nonetheless.

Former Georgia LB Monty Rice has funny moment during G-Day game

Former Georgia football LB Monty Rice has hilarious moment while commentating the 2021 G-Day game.

The 2021 G-Day had some very familiar faces in attendance this Saturday.  One of those faces was former Georgia linebacker Monty Rice, who recently declared for the 2021 NFL Draft following last season.

Rice hopped on the broadcast of the game by SEC Network with Cole Cubelic and happened to be on when defensive back Lewis Cine located an under-throw and caught an interception … and his reaction is priceless.

Georgia down two starting safeties after Lewis Cine ejected for targeting

UGA football is down two starting safeties for the Georgia-Florida game after Lewis Cine was ejected for targeting on Kyle Pitts.

Georgia safety Lewis Cine has been ejected for targeting.

That leaves UGA without its two starting safeties for the remainder of the game.

Cine’s hit camp with roughly 9 minutes remaining in the first half. He delivered a huge blow to Florida superstar tight end Kyle Pitts.

It was really just an unfortunate play. Cine was clearly not trying to do anything illegal, but more so just get lower than his opponent. Instead, he and Pitts got low at the same time and it resulted in an ugly play.
