Buccaneers punter Jake Camarda swung his helmet at a Bills player and refs weirdly picked up the flag

How did the refs miss someone using their helmet as a weapon???

With world-class athletes hitting each other every play, pro football is already a game that is dangerous enough. The last thing any NFL player should do is start using their equipment as a weapon with the intent to hurt someone.

Evidently, someone did not pass along this memo to Tampa Bay Buccaneers punter Jake Camarda.

Around halfway through the second quarter of Tampa Bay’s matchup with the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night, Bills and Buccaneers players got into what seemed like a harmless scuffle that happens all the time. Except in the heat of the moment, Camarda had his helmet ripped off and then used it to swing at the Bills’ Gregory Rousseau. Uh, you’re not allowed to do that.

Rather than penalize Camarda, the officiating team actually picked up a flag they threw and just moved on. All I can ask is: Why?

If you want to risk the penalty, you can certainly defend yourself and do the standard huffing and puffing and pushing. No one’s saying you don’t have that right. But the moment you start doing things like swinging helmets is when we’re veering into way-too-harmful territory.

This was a huge miss by the referees, and the Buccaneers and Camarda got lucky.

Former Georgia punter earns NFC Player of the Month honors

Jake Camarda earns NFC Special Teams Player of the Month honors…

Former Georgia punter Jake Camarda was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month this week.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneer punted 14 times for 768 gross yards (54.9 average) and 629 net yards (44.9 average). Camarda is tied for the NFC lead with seven punts pinned inside the 20-yard line. His 54.9 gross yards per punt lead the NFL, while his 44.9 net yards per punt rank fifth in the league.

Camarda is the second-ever Buccaneer punter to win the award (Josh Bidwell, Nov. 2005).

The former Coaches All-SEC selection finished his career at Georgia as UGA’s career leader in punting average with a mark of 45.78 yards per punt.

Camarda was drafted in the fourth-round of the 2022 NFL draft and has surpassed expectations thus far.

Last season, Camarda used his athleticism to make an incredible play and helped Tampa Bay get a big win over the Carolina Panthers.

Jake Camarda earns NFC Special Teams Player of the Month award

The Georgia punter is currently averaging 54.9 yards per punt.

The Buccaneers had high expectations for punter Jake Camarda when they selected him in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Now, it looks like he’s certainly meeting them.

Camarda was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month Thursday afternoon for the first time in his career. He is the second Tampa Bay punter in franchise history to earn the award and the first Bucs player to earn the award since 2012.

Camarda was the second punter taken off the board on draft night and the first punter Tampa Bay selected since Brent Bowden in 2010. The only punter selected ahead of Camarda was Ravens punter Jordan Stout, who was selected three picks prior at pick No. 130.

The second-year punter was awarded NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after a dominant performance against the Chicago Bears in Week 2. Camarda booted a 72-yard punt early in the contest — which he one-upped Monday when he landed a 74-yard punt against the Eagles — and landed three punts inside the 20-yard line.

Camarda leads the league and averages 54.9 yards per punt. He has seven punts inside the 20-yard line, which is good enough for third in the NFL.

Through three games, Camarda is on track to finish the season with 79 punts for 4,352 yards. His projected season totals are almost identical to his rookie year stats. Camarda finished his first year with 79 punts for 3,859 yards.

Bucs P Jake Camarda wins NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 2

Camarda had three punts inside the 20 yard line on Sunday, the last of which helped set up Tampa Bay’s pick six to seal the game.

Special teams make special teams, as they say.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got to figure that out firsthand Sunday in their 27-17 win, as punter [autotag]Jake Camarda[/autotag] was a big reason why the team was able to secure the victory. In recognition for his efforts, he was awarded as the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday.

Camarda impressed all game, first delivering a 72-yard punt that went out for a touchback. He then put his remaining three punts inside the 20 yard line the last of which was crucial — that punt backed up the Bears to the edge of the end zone and allowed outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett to score a touchdown when he picked off quarterback Justin Fields.

On top of that, he was the one that recovered Tampa Bay’s first blocked kick in the first quarter, and offensive coordinator Dave Canales made sure to give him his props for that, too:

As good as Camarda is, the Bucs will look to make him sit on the bench as much as possible when they play the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. For the times the team does need to punt, however, it may be in good hands with the former Georgia Bulldog.

Former UGA star Jake Camarda makes NFL special teams play of the year

Tampa Bay Buccaneers punter Jake Camarda may have saved the Bucs’ season after punting the ball following a bad snap

Tampa Bay Buccaneers punter Jake Camarda may have saved the Bucs’ season on a play that was nullified by a penalty. Camarda, who stunned the NFL world with he 40-yard dash a the NFL combine, scrambled to get off a punt after he received an awful snap late in the fourth quarter against the Carolina Panthers.

Camarda, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft, showed off his speed as he eluded Panthers players to nail a punt inside Carolina’s five.

However, the punt was nullified with a penalty on the Bucs. If Camarda would’ve just fallen on the ball, then the Panthers would’ve been set up with excellent field position and a much better chance to defeat the Bucs.

We don’t think any other punter in the NFL would’ve been able to get off a kick in this tough situation. Here’s a look at Camarda’s heroics:

Rookie punter Jake Camarda saves Bucs’ season on a play that didn’t count

A heads-up play from rookie punter Jake Camarda that didn’t officially count helped send the Bucs to the playoffs

When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers spent a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft on a punter, there was a collective groan from many of their fans.

After what Jake Camarda did Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, it’s safe to say those fans don’t mind that pick at all right now.

Perhaps the most important play in Sunday’s 30-24 comeback win didn’t even count, it was Camarda’s athleticism and quick thinking that saved the Bucs from disaster with the game on the line.

As the Bucs prepared to pin the Panthers deep in their own territory in the final minute of the game, a low snap forced Camarda to improvise:

A penalty on the Bucs would force a re-kick, with Camarda forcing a fair catch around the Panthers’ own 10-yard line.

What could have been an absolute disaster for the Bucs turned into the best play that never counted, saving the season for Tampa Bay.

Punter Jake Camarda saved the Bucs’ season with an unbelievably athletic punt and fans were in awe

Best play from a punter … ever?

Despite spending much of the season below .500, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers locked up the NFC South title on Sunday. And they can absolutely thank punter Jake Camarda for that.

He pulled off one of the more athletic efforts you’ll ever see from a punter.

With the Bucs up six points against the Panthers and punting with 42 seconds to go, a low snap had Camarda in a desperate scramble towards the sideline. In what could have been a disaster for the Bucs, Camarda managed to get a punt off right by the sidelines and have the ball downed around the two-yard line.

It was ridiculous.

Now, the play would end up getting called back due to a penalty. But it did make a huge difference. By pulling off that heads-up effort, Camarda gave the Panthers no choice but to accept the penalty (giving Camarda a re-punt). The whole punt took 11 seconds off the clock too.

The play easily could have turned into a takeaway or put the Panthers in excellent field position. Instead, they had almost no shot of mounting a comeback drive.

No wonder everyone was impressed with Camarda there. It was a sensational play.

It won’t show up in the stats.

However, Tampa Bay Buccaneers punter Jake Camarda may have saved his team’s NFC South championship with a brilliant play.

The snap to the punter was bad and Camarda had to scramble. He ran left and somehow kicked the ball with his right foot — his punting leg — down to the 1-yard line.

The play was negated by a penalty for illegal man downfield but had Camarda either fallen on the ball or lost it, Carolina would have been in a position to pull off a miracle win.

Camarda got a better snap on the next play and drilled it to the Carolina 8.

A last-ditch drive by the Panthers came up short and Tom Brady was back in the playoffs.

Camarda’s performance in Week 9 was critical to the Bucs’ 16-13 win over the Los Angeles Rams, as he averaged 59.5 yards on each of his six punts, landing four of them inside the 20-yard line, and matching a franchise record with a 74-yarder.

A fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft out of Georgia, Camarda is already proving to be everything the Bucs hoped when they spent such an early pick on a specialist.
