Where Georgia players rank on Mel Kiper’s draft position rankings

Where do Georgia players rank in Mel Kiper’s position rankings for the NFL draft?

Georgia set a school record during the 2021 NFL draft when it had nine Bulldogs selected, breaking its previous record of eight players (2002, 2013).

This year, Georgia will look to break that record again and send double-digit players into the NFL.

ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper has ranked each position group’s top-ten players for next year’s draft, and included ten Georgia Bulldogs.

Here is where they all rank in Kiper’s position rankings:

The three Georgia Bulldogs that made McShay’s top 32 include defensive lineman Jordan Davis, inside linebacker Nakobe Dean and outside linebacker Adam Anderson.

No. 13: DL Jordan Davis

Davis is a massive 3-4 nose tackle, but he has experience as a traditional defensive tackle in a 4-3, too. He has power and will bull-rush blockers back into their quarterback. But he is more of a disrupter than a finisher — he has just 1.5 sacks in seven games — and lacks first-step quickness and redirect ability. Against the run, Davis does a great job with gap control and is a true space eater. Good luck moving him off his spot. Watching his tape, the thing that jumps out is how often he requires double-team attention.

No. 14: ILB Nakobe Dean

Dean is an off-ball linebacker who has good speed, suddenness, range and instincts. He can match up with running backs in coverage, but he can also go sideline to sideline in run defense. Dean will make a lot of plays in pursuit, closing on ball carriers and wrapping up on tackles. His improvement as a blitzer this season has been impressive, too. He can locate gaps and close on the QB. Dean shows an excellent motor on every single down.

No. 29: OLB Adam Anderson

Anderson’s speed off the edge is exceptional; he plays with explosion. He has great first-step quickness and snap in his hands, getting in and out of blocks. In run defense, Anderson is at his best when turned loose in pursuit. Anderson will need to continue to get stronger, though. He gets engulfed too often; his speed-to-power moves stall out, and he doesn’t have the lower-body power to make a big impact against the run. He will likely start as a pass rush specialist in the NFL before developing into an every-down player with versatility.

Another fall weekend brings us several promising college football games to digest. Many promising young NFL draft prospects will take the fields around the nation, and the Detroit Lions scouting staff will fan out to catch these potential future Lions in action.

The focus this week is on defensive backs, though we did sprinkle in a couple of other positional prospects too.

Add these players to the lists from the last couple of college football weekends, too.

The 2021 Georgia Bulldogs features a defense that should see a lot of players making it to the NFL and playing on Sundays.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper released his updated rankings for the 2022 NFL draft and included two Georgia defenders on the list.

The initial rankings released in May had no Dawgs on it, but outside linebacker Adam Anderson found himself in the top-25 when Kiper released another round last month.

Now,  Anderson is joined by defensive lineman Jordan Davis.

Davis checked in at No. 13 while Anderson is listed as the No. 21 overall player in the 2022 NFL draft.

Being No. 13 is certainly a good spot to be, but let’s be real – Davis is a top-five talent. He’s 6-foot-6, 340 pounds and moves like a linebacker. You can’t teach that.

Kiper on Davis:

Of course Davis’ size sticks out, but he’s not just a space eater in the middle of the Bulldogs’ defense. He has the physical tools to beat interior offensive linemen with pass-rushing moves. That’s to go with his tremendous power off the snap. Davis has 1.5 sacks already this season, and he’s stellar against the run for one of the best defenses in the country. He’s not going to be a perfect fit for every NFL defense, but look at the damage that the 6-foot-4, 347-pound Vita Vea has done to offenses with the Bucs. Davis could be a game-changer.

Davis is so good that Georgia fans are calling for him to be in contention for the Heisman Trophy. Commentators praise the Charlotte native each week and he’s drawn national attention for his size and athleticism.

And then there’s Anderson, who ranks No. 21 on the list. Anderson has been consistently elite all season. He’s fast, a sound tackler and an exceptional pass rusher.

Kiper on Anderson:

Out of all the 2020 tape I studied over the summer, Anderson’s might have been the most surprising — in a good way. He flies off the edge to get to quarterbacks and never takes plays off. He had a great season as an edge rusher, racking up 6.5 sacks, 17 QB pressures and two forced fumbles. So far this season, Anderson has three more sacks and eight pressures. He is likely to stick as a 3-4 outside linebacker at the next level, and he has the potential to be a big-time sack artist.

NFL draft prospects for the Lions to watch in college football Week 4

8 college football players to watch in CFB Week 4 as potential future Detroit Lions

It’s Week 4 of the college football season, one week ahead of the NFL’s Week 3. And there are quite a few NFL draft prospects to watch across the big slate of college games on Saturday.

The prospect watch got off to a strong start on Friday night with an impressive but uneven performance by Liberty QB Malik Willis in the Flames’ last-second loss to Syracuse. Willis completed 14-of-19 passes for 206 yards and three TDs and also ran for 49 yards.

Who else should Lions fans pay attention to on Saturday with an eye for the 2022 NFL draft? Here are eight players to know for CFB Week 4.

Three Georgia Bulldogs – defensive linemen Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt and outside linebacker Adam Anderson – have been named the Reese’s Senior Bowl Defensive Players of the Week for their performance in a 10-3 win over Clemson.

The Dawgs had 7 sacks, held Clemson to 3 points, 180 total yards and just 2 yards rushing on the night. It was maybe the most dominant defensive performance I’ve ever seen from the Dawgs.

A huge part of that was because of the players listed below.

Obviously the whole defense deserves recognition and their were other players (Nakobe Dean and Lewis Cine) who absolutely balled out. But remember, this is an award for seniors only, which is why these were the three players selected.

The whole nation is talking about the 6-foot-6, 340 pound monster that is Jordan Davis. He was incredible on Saturday, recording 3 tackles, 1 sack and 2 tackles for a loss.

Adam Anderson showed off his athleticism and was all over the field on Saturday. Anderson had 5 tackles, a sack and a tackle for a loss.

And Devonte Wyatt was a disruptive force all night. He had 3 tackles and batted 2 balls down at the line of scrimmage.

Senior LB Adam Anderson wants 20 sacks this season

Adam Anderson wants 20 sacks this season

Senior linebacker Adam Anderson had a very solid 2020 season, recording 6.5 sacks in only 10 games.

He is expected to be one of college football’s elite pass rushers this season, along with his fellow outside linebacker Nolan Smith.

Anderson recently sat down with GeorgiaDogs.com’s John Frierson to discuss the upcoming season.

“I don’t know if my goal is unrealistic, but I’m going for 20,” Anderson said on Thursday regarding how many sacks he wants to reach this season.

As Frierson points out, through three years, Anderson is yet to actually start a game for the Bulldogs – but he still found his way onto the preseason Butkus Award watchlist.

We learned a lot about Anderson from this interview, with my favorite tidbit being that he is a big grapefruit fan.

“I’m more of a fruit guy. It’s rare that I go get a grapefruit or something, so when I do I know that I’m treating myself a little,” Anderson said when asked how he treats himself after a hot day of practice.

With Anderson receiving so much attention this offseason and being viewed as one of college football’s elites, he gave some detail into how he’s managing all that hype and attention.

It doesn’t change me, who I am. I only say that because I do this for a certain reason, and my certain reason would be for my sister. I never want to get over myself or feel like I’m doing it for some other reason. It’s just a love for the game, and I don’t care so much what comes with it, like what other people are saying. I just want to ball — that’s what I like and love.

Bulldog fans, players giving Pace ‘hell’

There has always been a lot of cross over between Clemson and Georgia in terms of recruiting which fuels the bitterness between the two schools on the gridiron.

Only 73 miles separate Clemson, S.C. and Athens, Ga. and both the Tigers and Bulldogs recruit the same areas.

Clemson running back Kobe Pace hails from one of those areas in Cedartown, Georgia north of Atlanta.

After the Tigers’ first day in full pads at Jervey Meadows on Thursday the sophomore pointed out that Bulldog fans and players blow up his phone on a daily basis in anticipation of the renewal of the Clemson-Georgia rivalry in Charlotte on Sept. 4.

“Actually yeah, I get a lot of texts everyday talking about the game,” Pace said. “But I just put my phone down and keep working because I know what’s going to happen on September 4.”

The sophomore is in the midst of a heated competition at running back with Lyn-J Dixon, Darien Rencher, Phil Mafah and Will Shipley.

Pace noted that a couple guys giving him the most grief play defense for the Bulldogs in junior defensive back Tykee Smith who transferred from West Virginia and senior linebacker Adam Anderson.

But he went on to joke that they didn’t say anything that would harm him they just tell him to ‘be ready.’

“I have a lot of guys on the other side at Georgia so they text me and give me hell,” Pace said.
